I'm not sure which athlete is dumber, NuKeese from TENN, or this kid from the Citadel!

Nothing surprises me anymore!

Thank God UM has Shannon!!

NuKeese is dumber cause he could only get into TENN and not the Citadel.

Solar, if you're out there,

I saw your list of whitest/blackest names, and started bagging up!!

I also think it's dope how a Jewish white guy can have Jerome as a first name. (Curly from the Three Stooges name was Jerome)

Sarasota 'cane

Manny likes to "stir the pot" sometimes, and Shandell is a downight disgrace to his profession as well as our team.

Would all of us agree that injuries were the single greatest reason why UM faded down the stretch? Neither Manny or Shandell reported it like that! It was "sexier" to bash Shannon and question his ability to lead the team. It sells more papers and it generates more "hits" on their blogs.

Go 'canes!

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

Ibis...I protected Manny just like I protected Jason Fox on the blog.

See if you can follow this:

You don't invite a guest to your house and then insult him and crap all over him. You don't ask Manny or Fox to take time out of their busy schedules to chat with the fans only to have those same fans turn on them. It's just bad form and poor manners.

Not every thought that comes to your mind has to be spit out onto a blog on the Internet for all to see. Haven't we all learned that lesson?

Posted by: 86Cane | March 04, 2010 at 02:24 PM

>>>>

I guess I missed the live interview with Fox.

To me, when someone like Manny or any player, past or present, comes to the blob to chat, you treat them like a guest and someone who's more or less on the same page with you...all about the U.

But if you're talking about an interview where they say something crazy and we're not supposed to call that shyt crazy, that's another matter.

I'll always call it as I see it. Like I said before, that Fox situation wasn't the first time we said those things about Fox and it doesn't mean we don't love him as a Cane but real is real and bullhsyt is bullshyt.

For example, if Pipho came on a live chat I wouldn't browbeat the kid. He gave his all but he just didn't have that much to give. I'd thank him for his effort and slap him on the back.

But if I see him whiffin assignment after assignment during a game or watching the highlights of a game, I'm going to call it out.

That's just the reality of public sports at any level, esp. D-1 CFB.

shwarma

I wrote a long winded blog that was eaten by typepad, but essentially all I wanted to say was this:

You can't have your cake and eat it too! It's not for the fans by the fans, if you tell us to stop talking about something that is a relevant and objective discussion. It's not fair to address a situation but then tell another blogger to move on when he suggests you invite all parties to talk about it (which I thought was a fair idea from bg).

I come here for insider information, educated opinion and spirited banter. Without this (and certain specific bloggers), despite the commraderie, I think the blog is worse off.

pb and bg are offering valuable insight on this situation. I think you should realize despite the reality of the situation this is just as much about perception and for that reason you should value all opinions.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

And as PB said, there's a difference between being courteous and swallowing a bunch of bullshyt from some fool who has NO credibility anywhere other than his for pay site.

Soup, U did him the favor, not the other way around. And if he had understood that he would've tried to take advantage of the situation and show people that it's actually WORTH spending money to read what he says.

His fat-azz did just the OPPOSITE.

And while I like Manny, if I see him running down that tabloid road I'll call him on it just like I'd call one of my friends on some bullshyt coming out of there mouth and they'd call me out just the same.

And everything I've said over here about Manny of late, I've written on his blob.

And definitely everything I've said about Shandel and Omar over here I've written on their blobs, probably worse.

It's called BEING A PUBLIC FIGURE.

And when you have the authority to say things you better be ready to be checked and scrutinized.

If people don't like it they should stay inside and shut their cheese-pipes.

shwarma

And your article was great, my above post was in response to your comments afterwards. It just reads that the comments and not the article, are how you really feel sometimes.

Captain Optimist aka Cavaleer

And I put players, even the worst, in a different category than so-called "journalists" because the hacks don't really know a dam thing and definitely haven't done jack.

Players always get the glass in half-full treatment, except maybe KW. lol Nah, I'd still give him respect for taking such a beating.

Also, players actually have some REAL INFORMATION. That's why I'd love to get Pipho on here so we could really see the changes on the team, from Coker to Shannon.

THAT would be a scoop and that's what the Space is really about at the end of the day.

INFORMATION. That's what all these guys who don't post but read have been saying.

Esteban

my thing on Calvin and Jason Fox was that he added a "don't get me wrong I'm glad we had him these past 4 years" type message. Wasn't all negative. I would agree on the hardline with negative comments toward guest is always going to create problems. The Rudy example being the best. How does everyone feel about Rudy these days? About insidetheu? The knocking him was warranted. Manny when miami mike criticized him was coming off some really negative blogs - criticism (i'd like to think of it more as taking him to task for what he wrote) was warranted even if i went about it in a different way than Mike. Still it seemed like Manny didn't really like how i went about it either. Jason Fox said something that was extreme. Was automatic that someone would read it and think and say "he's nuts" or something similar. And there was the overwhelming majority who argued its okay cause he was great for us so he can get a pass on that comment. Basically the community policed itself - as it does on regular occasion. Part of the history behind "the legion" was it was known as being a fair but honest group of fans. add to that a pretty knowledgeable group especially when compared to other sites.

Six- I have debated a many a people about the Halfletes playing a game called Baseball. Yes 'Halfletes'; cause they are not athletes and they do not play a sport the play a skill game.

I'm not gonna get to into it cause i am not gonna change your opinion and you are not gonna change mine.

CaneRock

16grams, say what you want, but hitting a baseball is no joke. Matter of fact, it's probably the hardest thing to do in sports. I mean think about it, what other sport can you think of, probably besides golf, that you can fail 65-70% of the time, and still be considered good to great...

16 grams

Thats part my point, doing something well 30% of the time and considering that good is a joke. Yes its a skill like darts or pool but not a sport.

I would have to argue blocking a 270 pound DL that runs a 4.6 40 is a tad harder than hitting a ball with a stick.

Daytoncane

is this a sports blog?

LooL- Don't fool yourself this is a Cane Football Blog that happens to cover other activities when football is not in season.

baseball is specialized like football. you got guys who are super athletic mixed in with guys who are fat a$$es but can do something very well. some incredibly skilled while others not so much but have a certain physical ability that makes up for it. people will bring up hitting the ball, but what about throwing a ball 90 mph and it dropping at the last minute and it being thrown to an exact location that is just where the batter will almost never be able to hit it? its a skill. turning a double play while jumping over someone who is sliding at you full speed with his metal spikes trying to take out your ankles/shins? professionals make it look a lot easier than it is.

UMike

Sarasota....im with you my man..I feel injuries, especially to J12 kept us from being 11-1...VT kicked out AZZ...but the other loses shouldnt have been and wouldnt have been had we been healthy...mainly the d-line and j12....but I agree with you also about how it was reported..it was.. "another year when they faded down the stretch" etc etc....I wish someone (maybe I will) would go back to each game and look who was out, I bet it would be an eye opener. I mean just look at the names Ojomo, Forston, Spence, Futch, it was the "who's who" of the defense it seems..ray ray went down etc.

Thank you for this reminder

mr troutman

I must say being around the Space for years now i've seen it grow from a peon to a known site. I remember 86 telling us to come on here when SUNSENTINEL( Omar's BLOG ) was leaving well at least he was. This was over 4 years ago. I also remember when we used to get all the FREE cut and paste info from other sites too. Man i miss those days. Now look where we are now. It wasn't long ago before we were hungry for a Miami site because 5 years ago it wasn't one. Yeah we are an opioniated bunch... This is by far the realest BLOG out there if U come on here talking out the side of your mouth you will get CHECKED RIGHT AT THE DOOR...not just by its' host but by its' fans. U SEE SOME OF US LOVE THIS SCHOOL LIKE FAMILY and if you come here eitheir being a jerk , a races pig or a looser U will get it from us period...

In essense though i just want all the old legion guys back mixed in with all the NEWBIES. The blog is still good way to get info from all sorts of oulets. This is a football blog but over the years it has been a All around blog that many have reached out towards one another rather postive or negative. But all in all Thanks 86 for setting things up here when others have failed while keeping up with Um sports.

Just got back from the Greensboro Coliseum after watching the Miami women's basketball losing a nail bitter. I rocked my canespace tee shirt with a Miami hoodie and tried my best to conjure up a win but...Anyway we would have won the game had #1 Williams "who by the way is a very good basketball player" been more involved at the start of the second half. Also she missed three wide open layups, so....66-65 was the final but had she made the layups we would of won...

SOUP, in an ideal world...yeah. But think about it, outside of the CWS (Baseball), the Tourney (B-Ball), BCS (Football) this place is a social networking site, there's certainly nothing wrong with that. And Fighting Ibis makes some pretty valid points. I've never known you for talking down to anyone, but notice that a lot of the guys who are no longer posting can be guilty of that to a certain point, which can lead to some pretty heated arguments (Case in point: Fighting Ibis vs The Truth). It's alright to be thick skinned and all, but there's just going to be somebody that's gonna peel the layers of that thick skin. I mean, at the end of the day, were some grown ass Canesters and Canettes, ya' dig...

Solar regarding white names: to make a name blindingly white you need two first names and a last: Jim Bob Smith, Melissa Lou Jenkins, Sadie Mae Allen, Jessica Ann Grayson

I don't think Roscoe Lee Browne counts 'cause no one called him Roscoe Lee

Then to make the male names even whiter add Jr or III at the end. When you hear Jim Bob Smith III. There ain't no doubt

Clarence Williams III doesn't count. He doesn't have the two first names.

Lance Armstrong sounds just like a 1950 white America, All American boys name.

If you asked a hundred people they wouldn't think Lance was Louie Armstrong's brother no matter how black you think the name is.

If I meant it to be what you interpreted it to mean I would of said
The Armstrong-est names of all time lol!

skool you and Six are killin me, you got that post for just what it was, a poke at ourselves.

Sometimes white guys don't pull off the name thing as well as a blacks dudes I agree.

Meatloaf as opposed to Prince comes to mind.

Esteban

I think the name "Lance" is what makes it "white" sounding. Armstrong would have the opposite affect like Cav pointed out.

I don't get it Tom. First you asked us to comment about this blog and when we do, it becomes one sided or just sweep it under the rug, or just ignore it and think that whatever it is that you had to do you did. I believe in honesty and frankness, but this just appears to be one-sided.

The only problem I see with the blog is that if we talk strictly about Canes sport, then it'll just feel like a dry blog and folks will probably stop commenting. It's nice to have some topics that are off-sports related, but still in the realm of civility, but as they say, sometimes good things do come to an end...

Nonetheless, I do want to thank you for all you have done with this blog in the past 4 years and I concur with Mr. Troutman's statement.

16,
I think you mean blocking the guy takes more strength or balls, not more skill.

Hitting a 90mph moving object that's the size of an aspirin in perspective to the background behind it takes mad skillz.

I'm a college football fan, watch very little baseball but I'm amazed at the hand eye coordination good baseball players have.

Solar,

There is so much skill that goes into blocking. Footwork, technique, blocking schemes, strength, and yes balls. The statement that Canerock said was what would be harder?
ex) 2
catching a pass from marino's gun is harder than catching a pop up once maybee twice a game.

It's a totally different skill. Hitting a 80mph curveball with a 4'' stick is very, very difficult, not even considering count, score, etc..

solarcane

16 agree, but also
hitting a 98 mph ball the size of orange, with a stick is amazing
try it sometime

solarcane

There isn't an offensive lineman in America that could hit a 98 mph fastball consistently, but there are some baseball players that could play wide receiver with ease.

Esteban

16 grams, catching a pass from marino is easier than playing 3rd base when a player fakes like he's going to bunt and you rush in then he pulls back and rockets the ball your way. even catching a pop up can be difficult if its far from you and its windy and it is slicing cause how it came off the bat.

i love football, but played baseball enough to know its not as easy as the pros make it look.

solarcane

" love football, but played baseball enough to know its not as easy as the pros make it look."

then again you make almost everything look dificult.

Esteban

catching a pass over the middle gunned by Favre while deion is covering you and ronnie lott is waiting to hit you...takes skill and just as important a lack of fear.

I feel that the truth about some things needs to be revealed about some situations that occurred on this blog concerning MM01 and Soup. I was going to keep things to myself but since Soup wants to reveal things so will I.

I speak entirely for myself.

When MM01 was banned it was because soup felt that Manny was being trashed on this site undeservedly.

That is not the problem. The problem with the relationship began with disparaging e-mails Tom sent to MM01 and Myself.

As many of you know I lost my job in October and MM01 and I both lost jobs due to lay-offs in Salt Lake City where we were working for some friends.

As a result of being under employed and unemployed we decided to combine our incomes
in order to survive. One way was to live together. Fortunately as father and son we get along.

Soup took it upon himself to ridicule and disparage the fact that Michael wasn't working and that he was living with me.

Soup has no idea about how hard MM01 was looking for work and to improve both of our situations. Tom took it upon himself to criticize him for things he had no business doing so and for a situation he knew nothing about.

He also criticized me for allowing Michael to live with me and was critical of us for other things, Telling Michael, get a job, implying he was lazy, calling Michael an ASS and involving himself in our lives in a way that was far out of bounds. If you want word for word I will give it to you.

I also know for a fact that others on this blog have had worse things said to to them by Soup.

Soup bears the responsibility for his actions and I'm afraid that although he has said disrepectful things, To MM01 , myself and others that he comes off looking like a prince when he has engaged in things not many would not approve of.

You want copies of the e-mails he sent my e-mail is hankrbradley@yahoo.com

This situation with MM01 and others who have been attacked personally is not about being banned from the blog or about the rules of the blog. It is about the treatment of others by someone pretentending to be something he is not.

Ok....I wasn't going to bring it up but since 86 wrote this blog, I might as well put my input in. Let me start off by saying......"for the love of god people". It's not like we lost a loved one. We simply had a few people decide not to blog anymore so lets not act like the world is coming to an end. The sun did rise and we moved on, right???.

Now I have to say that i did enjoy most of the comments that those who are no longer with us had written and I even had the pleasure of meeting JSQ on several occasions. They did bring great info to the table but the one thing I have noticed since they stopped blogging is all of the new names that have popped up and left comments. Am I the only one that noticed this?? I am not sure why that is but I have a theory. It seems that if Truth or Mary made a simple comment like "It's nice outside", there would be 50 responses to that comment. But if you had someone who doesn't post often bring something informative to the blog, they would hardly (if at all) get someone to respond thus feeling left out. So if you feel left out, why bother? Now granted I know the folks who are now missing were popular and well deserved but it's nice to see new names contribute to the blog. Especially those who always read what we say but never felt compelled to leave a comment until now.

This blog will continue to move forward, we will continue to read it and as long as Soup's head doesn't get in the way, you shall see the sun rise.

Peace and Go Canes......

What you can do and can't is a matter of skills and body type, genes, training and desire.

I refer to this quote all the time. Joe Frazier was once asked who something to the effect of who was the bravest man he knew.

His answer: Mark Spitz.

A guy who goes toe to toe with Ali, thinks Mark Spitz is brave. Why? Frazier couldn't swim.

When he tried it one time for superstars competition, he quit halfway through and said. "It was like I was throwin' punches at the water and the water kept hitting back."

FightingIbis

Pretty shallow to blame injuries on the 09 woes. EVERY TEAM deals with injuries. It's not like UM has to deal with it and nobody else does. The top teams have guys that can step in and get the job done when it's required. Dah U doesn't or hasn't lately. That falls on the coaches shoulders. Saying that 11-1 was realistic with the injuries is big time short sighted. IMO

Posted by: This U | March 04, 2010 at 04:43 PM

There's a big difference between other programs having injuries that have a balanced roster of upper classmen. Randy cleaned house when he stepped in. We were well below the 85 scholly limit. We had 53 true sophomores and freshmen on this roster last year. When a sophomore goes down and you have to put in a true freshman in is harder than having a Senior injured who's being replaced by Junior or Sophmore.

You can say injuries didn't hurt us all you want to but they did. If our LB's don't stay healthy this year we're hurtin because of depth.

Having a true 2 deep roster will help us this year. That's why Randy will play 145 downs this year aat the spring game. He couldn't do that before because we didn't have a 2 deep.
