Flush off their success in the ACC tourney your Miami Hurricanes will unforunately be sitting at home (or wherever they are on Spring Break) to watch both the NIT and NCAA tournaments on TV.
Since hoops mania and bracketology are sweeping the Country we thought we would help some Hurricane fans return to some of the glory they enjoyed as UM knocked off Wake Forest and Virginia Tech in consecutive games before giving eventual ACC Champ Duke all they could handle in the semi-final game.
Here is the Wake Forest article I posted at Raycom Sports:
And here are some video highlights of Miami's 21 point first round thrashing of the Demon Deacons courtesy of our friends at Raycom Sports:
Here is the Virginia Tech article I posted at Raycom:
And here are some www.raycomsports.com highlights of the Hurricanes' 70-65 quarterfinal "Revenge Tour" victory over the Choking Hokies (NOTE: It was not raining or cold during the game):
Here are some more Raycom video highlights of Miami's 77-74 semi-final loss to the Blue Devils:
We also thought we would give the fans a chance to evaluate Head Coach Frank Haith and the Hurricane team returning for next season. Miami loses three seniors from this year's team: Forwards Dwayne Collins and Cyrus McGowan and Guard James Dews. Losses indeed, but not so serious or devastating.
Looking ahead Miami returns several high flyers for the 2010-2011 season. Next year looks very positive with the main stars coming back: Guards Durand "Durand" Scott, Malcome "President" Grant, forward DeQuan "Not Mrs." Jones and center Reggie "Big Daddy" Johnson.
So Hurricane fans do you project for the next season?
Here is our poll for U to vote on Head Coach Frank Haith:
Nice article! I'm actually looking forward to next year now.

Meph - I think Canes getting drafted since '99 is a showing of how they're still being able to get some nice players
I dunno how good Erickson could've been without the Tommy John, Hernandez looked good his Frosh year but pressed too much last year ...
I don't know exactly what I think of Arteaga as the pitching coach
They still went 53-11 a couple of years ago and went to Omaha
They have an influx of youth on the squad this year. I think if they stay around, they'll do some damage

Posted by: 404Canes404 | March 18, 2010 at 09:42 AM
So, it looks like there is more Faith in Shannon than Faith in Haith based on the poll results.
I feel that if they had scheduled a tougher early schedule, not grueling, but no 300-level teams either, they would have made it into the NIT. That phantom 15-1 start made folks shy away from bringing them in, IMO.
I am not sure if that is Haith's fault, but I recall him defending that easy Gator-like non-conference schedule. I would rather make these guys work to get better than to get glorified practices that end as 20 point "wins".
Let's see if next year's schedule gets tougher....

Estimated that 500,000 homes will be foreclosed on in Florida and of thoses, Miami is highest with 80,000 homes. Which is clogging the courts and delaying recovery.... recovery? That's laughable!

Faith in Haith... not so much, but the kids... Yeah, we might have something going here!
Looking forward to next year!
Posted by: Cat 5 Cane | March 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM
Cat5, recovery or not the foreclosures are still going to happen because people still have their rates adjusting giving them mortgages that job or no job they would have a hard time paying. just would be a smaller number of people foreclosing if they all still had work...but might not be a much smaller number of a number. there are high foreclosure numbers in areas where a ton of jobs weren't lost.
Posted by: Esteban | March 18, 2010 at 10:51 AM
Haith needs a little more depth of talent to compete with the upper crusters in the ACC and more than one consistant scorer. Miami not being a basketball school, doesn't help either.

Croc Pro Day yesterday up at The Puddle
All the players were out there at 10am, as scheduled
Except one
He didn't come out until 5 'til noon
I'll let you guess who made everyone wait for 2 hours
The sports guy we sent up there to cover it wasn't exactly happy yesterday - being at the station until 1:20am the night before, having to get up at 5:30am the morning of to go pick up the one of the other sports anchors at 6:20 ... then driving up to Gainesville to get there by 9am to see the guys warming up ... then shooting/interviewing players from 10am until 5 'til noon, having to wait for this certain player ... then filming him go through his workouts, then going to his press conference afterward
Ahh, such professionalism on that certain player's behalf, just one of the regular guys that comes out at 10am like they're supposed to .. right?
Funny, how many of the regular guys who came out on time to work out for the scouts and coaches and GMs - are going to be 1st or 2nd rounders. This guy who makes everyone wait until 2 hours later, maybe will sniff the 5th round if he's lucky and some team decides to put their money where their mouth is
Of course you always certain hear GMs or coaches say the right thing on camera "Someone is going to get a winner" ... "The kid just wins" ... "He's a hard worker, whoever gets him will be lucky" ... "I don't think there's anything wrong with him"
Oh yea? Alright. Talk is cheap jabronis. Go ahead and pick him in the first 4 rounds then if you really do believe the garbage that is falling out of your mouth in front of cameras
Mike Holmgren was there yesterday, he was nothing but a soundbite lovefest machine for this guy who came out 2 hours late. Well Mikey, you go ahead and make him the QB of the Browns then
Holmgren took Seneca Wallace in the 4th round back in 2003 with the Seahawks and just got Seneca to come to the Browns. Seneca was an athletic QB at Iowa State, could run/scramble and throw. You go ahead Mikey and take the guy yesterday who you were fawning over and make him your QB of the Browns
Posted by: Six | March 18, 2010 at 12:41 PM
Ya, because Seneca Wallace turned out to be outstanding as a QB and/or WR for the Seahawks ... great pickup Holmgren, singing the praises of him being a winner as well at Iowa State and an athletic QB
- Started a total of 12 games in 5 years
- 76 yards receiving in 5 years
- 214 yards rushing in 5 years
And I don't ever want to hear ANY kind of comparison between Steve Young and this former Croc QB ... ya, they're both white QBs and that's about it ... if Holmgren does take him, simply b/c Holmgren worked with Young

You get em SIX!
Posted by: canechic | March 18, 2010 at 01:02 PM
canechic - I was watching all the raw video my guy shot yesterday up at work, with all the interviews ... he was still pissed about waiting for 2 hours and then later afterward, having to wait for the press conference
Mike Tomlin and Raheem Morris were hanging out together all day. They looked like they were just having fun ... then getting back to work ... then having fun ... then getting back to work
It probably wouldn't have been good if I was there, b/c I wouldn't have been too happy either, having to wait 2 hours later than scheduled .... I also probably would've said some things to Riley Cooper about the Canes/Crocs baseball game from last year with his dirty slide. I still can't let that go
I do like Joe Haden though. He's the only Croc I can stand. I'd love to have him on the Bucs. If the Bucs can't get Suh or McCoy - I'd rather have Suh - then in my fantasy football world, I'd hope they could trade down for a 2nd or 3rd round pick and get Joe Haden
Ya, I wouldn't mind having Eric Berry either, but, the Bucs have a need more at CB than Safety, to replace Ronde Barber and Haden fits the type of CB the Bucs need in their Tampa 2
Posted by: Six | March 18, 2010 at 01:17 PM
six- Cowherd described Tebow as a "Poor man's Vince Young" today. Young can be effective so the comparison may not be fair for Young, but I agree with his (and Henne's) sentiment.

Six, just thanking you for yesterdays point that the Canes hadn't come back from behind in the last six innings all this year. You reverse jinxed it, and the Canes won last night in the bottom of the ninth.
Should have been a passed ball instead of a wild pitch though, catcher's fault instead of pitcher's fault, IMO.

I'm not in the car to hear Cowherd at the time he is on .. and I think he's actually not on in the Tampa area anymore b/c they moved The Fabulous Sports Blob into his time slot on the ESPN station b/c she (and I use "she" loosely) is on from 12-3pm

j.w. - ya, well, consider yourself lucky
I filled in for her this past Memorial Day here, that's when she was 9am-Noon. I just remember thinking, why does she have so many commercial breaks? I'd start to get talking and get on a roll, then the producer would motion me to go to break .... she has like 8 minute segments, then 3 minutes of commercials.
She's now been moved from Noon-3pm
I'd never seen her in person, until last year on a remote show that I co-hosted. Wow. I feel kinda bad for saying this, considering what she's been through - but man, she is anti-skinny ... I'm talking, big and waddley (if that's even a word)
She kinda reminded me of this guy:
http://www.dreamagic.com/vivianrose/spawn.gif
But with sunglasses and not the Braveheart blue face paint

ASK THE BOY SCOUTS TO DE-MERIT FISHING
PETA is calling on the Boy Scouts of America to retire its "Fishing" and "Fish and Wildlife Management" merit badges. Fishing is no longer considered a benign activity. It is hunting in the water, and the idea of a scout armed with a gun or rod, setting out to actively attack animals who were minding their own business, is not in keeping with the image of scouting.
http://www.peta.org/feat/merit/index.html
Hopefully, there'll be a nude protest ... maybe Bar Rafaeli in a squid bikini.

Aqua,
i hope you still know that we're going undefeated in college basketball next year.
that wasn't a "real UM team" out there this past season, and plus we had a ton of injuries.
when these kids grow up they'll be unbeatable and teams will be afraid to put us on their schedule again.
just check out all the quotes from Haith in the paper. you can tell he has a plan and wants to win more than anybody. he's doing everything right.
i thought you would enjoy that.

Six I don't know why I read your posts. They often send me down tangents I'd rather not go.
Your latest got me thinking about new applications for the scout sign (three fingers together usually pointed straight up)
Posted by: Old Skool | March 18, 2010 at 02:31 PM
Old Skool - that's funny what you said about not reading my posts b/c they'll take you places you'd rather not go
I used to get that a lot from chicks, from when I was in 4th grade up until just a few years ago (Miss Six just needs me to look at her and it's over). For some reason, I could talk them into doing pretty much anything
Ya man, the Scouts should adapt the shocker
