Random dumb luck is a great thing

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.)

A very big win for the B-Ball team

Now lets see if we can put back to back solid games together

SOUP

UMIKE - I lost 23 pounds a few years back by simply switching from Captn-n-Cokes to Crown on the rocks for about 60 days.

THAT'S MY KIND OF DIET!

Finally.....something good about the basketball team. But for how long?

Skool...I don't know about random, or luck, but U got DUMB down to a science. LOL

SOUP

Skool...do U own some Canespace gear?

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.)

There is no lock in any game in the ACC tournament this year

This is the weakest this conference has been in a very long time, so anything can happen

You never know, we might be able to make a nice run

Six

Este & moneycane - Vince Carter is from Daytona Beach Mainland High School, we used to play them every year .... the basketball team he was on was sick, straight up sick

Tracy McGrady is from Bartow, about half an hour outside of Tampa, and played ball at Auburndale before going up to North Cackalacka to play at one of the academies

Six

I hit on both Miami and Marquette today

KA-CHING $$

Old Skool

Nope. I'll get some from you in the future. Right now, I'm trying to get rid of stuff I've got and organize what remains.

DeLand, Seabreeze, Spruce Creek?

Vince owned the area when he was there. It was like a grown man playing against little kids.

Him and his brother Chris used to come up to the Ormond Rec and play ball with us during his Jr. and Sr. years. You just had to sit back and laugh at the things he could do on the court. Just unreal talent and a very humble kid to go along with it

SOUP

Nope. I'll get some from you in the future. Right now, I'm trying to get rid of stuff I've got and organize what remains.

Just say the word and U shall be healed.

Daytoncane

Devan Downey should be the POY. dude is unstoppable.

if he didn't play for a craptastic South Carolina team everbody would know his name. he can shoot from anywhere and is too quick for anybody to guard.

UK has got all those great players and they didn't come close to stopping him.

Evan Turner has been hella good, but Downey has more responsibility night in and night out. Downey doesn't have a Jon Diebler or a David Lighty to bail him out.

Dominique Jones also should get some love too.

UMike

My son was the ONLY kid in his whole school to score 100 on both his math and reading pre-tcap test. The tcap is to tenn what the fcat is to florida. So proud! Maybe he can get a academic sholly to UM

raizecane

UMIKE - Congrats. My daughter had to do the science portion if the F***Cat today.

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.)

Dominique Jones I agree on but Downey not so much. He forces alot of his shots and plays a little out of control at times. I know his teammates are weaker then Turners but when it comes down to all around play POY is going to Evan. He dominates in every phase of the game

CaneRock

Other NBA players from Florida:Artis Gilmore, David Robinson, Otis Birdsong, Truck Robinson, Eddie Johnson Mitch Ritchmond, Amare Stoudemire

SOUP

UMike...U are a good father. It's the reason U have good kids. Never stop!

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.)

And of course the most famous, most colorful of the all

The man from Planet Lovetron

Darryl Dawkins

DZ8

Good, no GREAT JOB UMike... breaking the circle with this bunch of kids. Good thing.

solarcane

just came in,
canerock did you have
Tracy McGrady from Bartow on your list?
I only know him because his name is like the Shaqtus

Daytoncane

Sebas the reason he has to force those shots is because his team sucks.

the only reason they beat UK is because they hit shots. if they're not knocking down shots there's no way they can win, which can be said for any basketball team (duh).

i just wish i could see him play for a contender.

Daytoncane

you guys think football players live good?

a lot of times the basketball players have a house built for them all to stay in. Louisville has a huge house and im pretty sure UK does too.

oh how great it is to be a Division 1 athlete.

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.)

It has to be frustrating for players like him as well as the coaches when you cant get the other players to play up to his level.

Ive watched more then a few of his games and ive been disappointed in the lack of effort his teammates show during times of the game.

DrewZ2

any word on the scrimmage happening tonight?

solarcane

watchin Jeff Beck kill it

zowiiiee!

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.) - grew up in DeLand going to Stetson basketball/baseball games and DeLand High School football games ... moved to DeLeon Springs and used to go to Spring Garden Ranch to watch the horses train and eat breakfast ... went to Deltona High

Grew up with Chipper Jones, Tra Thomas and Terrence Trent Darby's little bro haha

I remember playing Mainland, Spruce Creek, Father Lopez, Seabreeze, Pierson-Taylor, DeLand, Dr. Phillips, University, Lake Brantley, West Orange, Oviedo, Sanford Seminole, Lyman, Apopka, Bishop Moore, Boone, Colonial, Evans, Trinity Christian

Has anyone ever seen Midnight Madness at Kentucky?

Insane. It looks like New Years Eve at Times Square

They had players being lowered down from the roof on these stages with fireworks, techno music, glitter, confetti ... crazy

Daytoncane

what else does Kentucky have?

same thing with Alabama and Nebraska in football.

Ibisfan33

Six/Sebastian,
Good to see Volusia people on here. I went to Creek and I remember Vince when he was tearing it up and winning a state championship with Mainland. Truly something to see (even though they were sort of our rivals). His stepdad was actually a substitute teacher in Volusia and would wear the state championship ring and show it off when he was teaching haha...

Where did you go to school Sebastian?

Six

HERE IT IS - KENTUCKY MIDNIGHT MADNESS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoHB7ioWoYE&feature=related

Freakin insane. This is just for Midnight Madness.

It looks like New Years Eve, intros at WWF Wrestlemania, a rock concert, etc.

Just plain sick. This shows right here how much basketball means to that school.

SOUP

Six...that is some CRAZY stuff.

solarcane

what else does Kentucky have?

I heard they have a horse race that draws over a million people to the state to party.

CGNC

solarcane

CGNC,
yea 1/2 of a game of good offense a season makes me wanna watch for sure. lol

Daytoncane

lol i know that solar. i went to college in Kentucky.

i meant they have no pro teams or mentionable attractions other than stuff in Lexington and Louisville.

From Shandel..
GREENSBORO, N.C., _ Obviously, I’m still here with the basketball team, but Sun Sentinel correspondent Chris Perkins did attend Thursday’s football scrimmage at Lockhart Stadium.
Here are some notes and observations from Perkins, a former UM beat writer:
–Running back Lamar Miller scored on a 44-yard touchdown, showing his breakaway speed. He finished with 63 yards in seven carries and two TDs.
–Junior defensive end Andrew Smith recorded three sacks.
–Sophomore safety Vaughn Telemaque had two interceptions.
–The defensive highlight may have been when Storm Johnson broke off a 52-yard run only to be caught by DeMarcus Van Dyke, preventing the touchdown. Johnson led all rushers with 104 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.
–Once again, the WRs dropped a lot of passes. Senior Leonard Hankerson had the most disappointing night, according to coach Randy Shannon. Aldarius Johnson also had a drop.
–Sophomore kicker Jack Wieclaw hit field goals of 33 and 27 yards. He missed an extra point because of a bad hold.
–Walk-on Nathan Gholston had an interception on a pass tipped by linebacker Sean Spence.
–Running back Mike James had just 18 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown.
–Quarterback A.J. Highsmith led two scoring drives. He capped one with a 13-yard run and the other with an 8-yard pass to Travis Benjamin. Highsmith was 7 of 11 for 94 yards but threw three interceptions. Spencer Whipple completed 7 of 9 passes for 75 yards. Freshman Stephen Morris went 0 for 3 in limited action.
–Here’s a list of those didn’t participate because of injury: running back Damien Berry (hamstring), guard Brandon Washington (knee), tackle Orlando Franklin (back), Brandon Harris (hamstring) and Joel Figueroa (shoulder).
–First string offense: LT Cory White, LG Jared Wheeler, C Tyler Horn, RG Harland Gunn, RT Jermaine Johnson, TE Richard Gordon, WR LaRon Byrd, WR Leonard Hankerson, FB Pat Hill, RB Mike James, QB A.J. Highsmith.
–First string defense: LE Andrew Smith, LT Allen Bailey, RT Curtis Porter, RE Micanor Regis, LB Colin McCarthy, MLB Kylan Robinson (Shayon Green had limited time) and LB Sean Spence. CB DeMarcus Van Dyke and CB Brandon McGee and FS Jamal Reid and SS Vaughan Telemaque. DE Adewale Ojomo played with the first team.

SOUP

CSM...there is nothing YET on Manny, Shandel, ITU or Canesport.

I was NOT able to attend. I do not know if anyone else went or not?

Sebastian(2001U G.O.A.T.)

Keep that coin safe in your pocket SOUP

CaneSawMassacre

SOUP there is somethin on Canesport...

I was just looking for ur guys perspective..

Let me give u guys the basics.

CaneSawMassacre

* A play after Telemaque's first interception Lamar Miller ran around the left end showing his speed on a 15-yard gain. He later ran in a 44-yard touchdown run right up the middle, breaking free and outrunning the defense.

* Storm Johnson had a huge run up the left sideline for a gain of 52 yards to the 10-yard line, with Demarcus Van Dyke chasing him down from a step behind. On another carry Johnson made a great shake-and-bake move, getting CJ Holton going in the wrong direction as `oohs' rained down from the stands, but Holton recovered to make the tackle. He later had a 29-yard run up the left sideline before getting run down.

* Facing a third-and-20 on the scrimmage's third series Highsmith rolled right and found Leonard Hankerson for a gain of 24 on the right side. Highsmith ended that series completing five straight passes, including a pass to an open Travis Benjamin on the right side for an eight-yard touchdown in front of walkon Nate Gholston.

* Whipple's first pass was completed on the left side to Billy Sanders for a gain of 17 yards.

* A Highsmith pass was broken up by Spence and intercepted off the ricochet by walkon Nate Gholston.

* Gholston was beaten by Aldarius Johnson on a 26-yard pass - Johnson went up over him on an underthrown ball from Highsmith.

* Kicker Jake Wieclaw converted two of three extra point tries (he missed one on a bad hold). He made field goals from 33 and 27 yards.

* There was a dropped pass by Hankerson early on, and he later dropped a pass on the right sideline on a trick play pass from Johnson. Richard Gordon also dropped a pass with Sean Spence in tight coverage. Tommy Streeter also had a drop.

"They dropped some passes, but I thought Aldarius showed up tonight," Shannon said. "Hankerson dropped too many passes, but Aldarius really made some plays."

CaneSawMassacre

Six -

Latwan Anderson is now confirmed.

Track papers signed.

Daytoncane

UK basketball is a pretty big deal.

half of the state is for UK, the other half is for the 'Ville.

solarcane

Johnson led all rushers with 104 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.
Mike James had just 18 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown.

and the hand writing is on the wall

10.4 yds per carry, im jus saying

CaneSawMassacre

Solar Mike James started - D.Berry was held out..

So I don't know who Storm was running against ala 1's 2's or 3's with that said..

From reports of people there, he seems like the best pure runner we have had in awhile.

Miller blew up the middle for a TD run, just leaving VT and Ray Ray eating dust particles.

Not a bad problem to have...!

raizecane

Six - my oldest is going to Deltona. I went to Lake Brantley (Go Patriots).

CGNC

Solar, this is where you get out your harmonica and cue up "my old Kentucky home" LMAO!!

just kicking the sandpile,

I told my man Soup to snag Storm's jock for LOF while he had the chance.

Lucky for soup he won't have to alter his I LOVE JOHNSON tat from last year.

solarcane

cgnc,
the best thing about Kentucky to me is I don't live there.

CGNC

Yea Solar I hear that! Never been, supposed to have great horse farms but way too cold for me.

raizecane

Ocala has some real nice horse farms as well....and not too cold

Daytoncane

you think Kentucky is bad?

what if you lived in one of the Dakotas?

or in Mississippi?

SOUP

CaneSawMassacre

LOL - now that guy is a genius at callings plays but U wanted THAT GUY AS THE HEAD OF OUR PROGRAM????

Well to that I say, F**K no, To h8ll F8ckkkk no.. We thought we were too f*cking good for Shannon, and look at waht the f8dge we could of fudgin' had meandering on and rambling like an old loose terd.

Not gonna happen. He's all yours.

I got James and Miller WAY before that.

CaneSawMassacre

Solar ur like a twelve year old boy who found out his toy johnson shoots real bullets...

Glad to see it LOL.

TonyCane

Leach would have been a long-term disaster for UM. I'm not sure if he could have brought in the level of talent that Shannon has, and his reputation would have only perpetuated the negative image that Miami had reacquired in 2006.

solarcane

dayton
I always wondered about the Dakotas
Don't they play like 6 or 8 man football at the big high schools there?

And what's it like to be crowned Miss North Dakota? who do compete against your mom and younger sister?

novaCANEPHINatic

half of the state is for UK, the other half is for the 'Ville.

Posted by: Daytoncane | March 11, 2010 at 10:20 PM

You are correct...had a co-worker that was from the 'ville and without a major professional sport in the state(AFL2 doesn't count) those 2 schools are top flight

SOUP

Offense: James, Miller, AJ

Defense: Forston, DVD, McCarthy

Special Teams: Canechic or CSM

SOUP

Tornado Watch is over for Central FL.

See U on the flip side...

Daytoncane

Leach is old school.

he tells it like it is, just like Parcells and Bobby Knight.

he couldn't have been lying about his team's attitude, that's the way a lot of players are these days.

he is a hothead though. but he wins too.

Daytoncane

You are correct...had a co-worker that was from the 'ville and without a major professional sport in the state(AFL2 doesn't count) those 2 schools are top flight

and what's stupid is they sometimes call it the "border war".

there's Kentucky education for you.

CaneSawMassacre

LMAO dayton - did u just compare Leach to two of the upper echelon coaches for their respective sports????????????

SERIOUSLY

I would agree with U for one if that was true, but did U listen to his speech? Cussing' does not make a great motivator (yes a hothead) but Parcells and for the most part Knight did it a manner that got the BEST out of their players.

He rambles and barely remembers the d*mn schedule and added f**k all over the place to try and compete a sentence.

I like his play calling for college football but goodness, I'm glad he didn't come here.

CaneSawMassacre

Leach seems like the first fully functional autistic D-1 head college football coach.

Playing with pirates
Slurring
Cussing
Rambling
Screaming
Did I mention he plays with pirates
Limps around

BUT = CALLS PLAYS LIKE A GENIUS

Daytoncane

i didn't say anything about him being a motivator.

i said he tells it like it is. his team obviously had some issues with immaturity and selfishness and he addressed it.

he went about it the wrong way, but at least he had the gonads to call them out.

calm down.

CaneSawMassacre

LOL I dunno I see it differently..

No need to calm down. I was just trying to be funny about him.

raizecane - nice about your oldest & Deltona. Doesn't Fran live near Deltona, in Debary?

It was a brand new school basically when I went there. Odd situation for me b/c I grew up in DeLand, played ball with all the kids in DeLand - always played against the kids from Deltona - but, when it came time to head into the 9th grade, I went to Deltona .... where I lived was zoned for Pierson-Taylor (where Chipper Jones went before Bolles), but b/c of family I also had a choice to go to Deltona, so I went

I didn't know anyone, except the kids that I had been playing against for all those years from Little League to Babe Ruth to American Legion - and we didn't exactly get along. So, I was kind of an outcast. I didn't mind. I had a lot of people that wanted to be friends with me, but I didn't want to be friends with them. I just did my own thing, played ball, graduated, got the hell up out of there. I honestly can't even remember probably more than 2 people's full names that I went to high school with now. Everyone knew me, b/c I was the kid on television every morning, sitting behind the desk, doing the announcements from our television production class and the host of the student show every Friday that was shown all day long.

I remember playing Lake Brantley in baseball, the year after USA Today Newspaper crowned them the national champs in high school - Jason Varitek was on that team.

It was American Legion ball during the summer, so it was basically just all the high school teams playing each other during the summer while school was out. We were playing Lake Brantley, tie game in the 8th, we had a runner on 3rd and I was up to bat. Coach called for me to sacrifice squeeze ... I said, screw that and I swung away and drove a ball deep opposite field to the warning track ... our runner tagged up and scored the go ahead run

Dude, I could feel the Coach shooting freakin laser beams of "pissed off", right through my back as I was rounding 1st base, haha

When I jogged back to the dugout, everyone came out to hi five me, and also to tell me that I missed the sign given ... I just said ya, I know

We shut them down the next inning to seal the win, we won by 1 run

After the game, in the team meeting out in the outfield, at the end, Coach asked me what the hell happened and why I missed the sign. I just said I didn't miss the sign, it was just the longest sacrifice squeeze I'd ever seen in my life, he'd probably ever seen in his life and that the bat must be corked b/c that was a warning track bunt

Practice the following day, I had to run hills forward and backward and had to run triangles to start off the practice. Good times

Am I the only one who had never heard about Nate Gholston before today? Apparently he's a walkon via the track team who transferred from UMich last year.

He doesn't have ANY recruiting services pages, but from what he shares about himself on MySpace, Twitter, etc., he seems like a good kid.

In other news, our RBs GOT ME HYPED!!! Storm and Lamar are definitely making this an interesting spring and I hope both of them somehow get involved next season along with Berry. A 3-RB tandem is becoming more and more common in the NFL and it would only be proper for NFLU to follow the same path.

ALL WE DO IS WIN BABY!!!!

GO CANES!!!

RBLCane

Shannon interview as per Rivals:

http://miami.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1061605

Looks like Shannon is making an effort to make amends with the media, probably as a means of coercing Hocutt into giving him his much-deserved raise and contract extension.

As per this article, Shannon makes $900,000 per season and is supposedly THE LOWEST paid coach in the ACC. Texas' DC Will Muschamp makes that much and Tennessee's former DC Monte Kiffin got $1.2 mil last season. These guys aren't even head coaches!

I personally don't think any coach at The U should get paid that little, but I understand the school's budget is tight. Nevertheless, Hocutt should throw Shannon a bone and reward him somehow for the consistent improvement in the wins column, the steady recruiting, and for making the U relevant again.

GO CANES!!!

UMike

DAT....I couldnt read past the third paragraph in that bleacherreport....they got A. Brown as a DB and "Shawn Spence"...and that the defence lead the way? WHoever wrote that never watched a game last year lol
