Repost from last blog:

Ne one see the Muck Bowl documentary on NFL Network?? Awesome. Micanor Regis, the Blur, Jenaoris Jenkins (I know, but he shut down TB in the first half), and other studs.. very fun to watch

solarcane

It would have to be Warren Sapp
I don't think they had the award when Hendricks was playing

SOUP

Sapp is correct. What year?

SOUP

Philly...didn't see it. Lots of talent on that field out there in da muck!

chalupe71

Orlando Pace won it twice

SOUP

Soup - Thanks for the golf link. I actually got to meet G-reg (3rd Leg) last year. I am a high school teacher and he lives next door to one of my students. He came and spoke to my marketing class about sports marketing and agents.

ChicagoCane

BG - I like your early recruitment predictions with one exception....no Wayne Lyons? I thought he and Cash (now an OSU commit) were our two main safety targets. Any insight?

SJMPARMAN

The bucs have drafted the most lombardi award winners.

DrewZ2

lol PhillyCane I was watching it not really knowing what it was and i was thinking to myself, man that one kid looks alot like TB... now to find out that it is him lol

SOUP

PARMAN...U are correct! Do U have Canespace gear? If not email me at:

JCane

Nice list, BG, with a paste of your choices from the last blog below (if it comes through):

My WAY early class prediction for 2011.

Teddy Bridgewater
Sammy Watkins
Phillip Dorsett
Kelvin Benjamin/Andre Davis/Ja’juan Story (only 1)
Eli Rogers
Marcus Jackson
Nick O’Leary/Bradon Fulse (only 1)
Anthony Chikillo
Elkino Watson
Denzell Perryman
Rob Hankins
Jabari Gorman
Dallas Crawford
Albert Louis-Jean

Wildcard – Maybe another DT or perhaps another safety
--------------------

I think the odds went up some with O'Leary with OSU getting the TE verbal a few w/a. I see Georgia and FU going after him hard, with UGa being his pull from his parents and OSU from his grandpa Jack (Nicklaus).

A few of the folks you mentioned are already likely from the 305. If the U can pull either Benjamin or Davis at wideout, you call it a day quite happily. I like Story, also, and I agree that there's little chance of more than one coming or fitting in with the schollies at @15. Should be interesting to see what happens with Frazier, but I'd be shocked to see him come in (and don't see this happening along with Bridgewater, so one out of two).

One thing is for sure. There will be less drama than usual with signing day next year, imo.

ZarOkon

I want T.Bridgewater and D.Perryman...Chickilio also!

orange 'n green in the vein

Sapp was '94's winner.

Aqua

AQUA, Ward is OUT lol!

Yess, lol just like his pro football career, he made himself inelegible.

Thanks... DZ

Just my opinions...

The list above looks great but it all hinges on Miami kick'n azz in 2010. If we do what we gotta do, then the recruiting game is over and just line them up on LOI day... but if not, look for runners.

QB... I think it's going to be tough pulling one in... Who ever comes in as a QB, will know he's redshirting on the bench for 2011 and competing maybe in 2012... but no guaranties with AJ and Morris ahead of him.

roachcane77

Cat5,

I agree, if we aren't winning in 2010, we're NOT pulling in the big names.

I'm not feeling Bridgewater either, based on his past interviews... doesn't sound like a solid UMiami commit... would LOVE to have him though.

Go Bailey! Do the work required to run away with the Lombardi!

Cat 5 Cane

Hey Roach... Glad to see you coming back, again.

I'm not preaching to you, as we're on the same choir, but for some others...

Don't worry... If not Bridgewater, another quality QB and others will follow... if we win the ACC and then play in the Orange...

Everyone wants to play on a winning team and Miami will come to the top of the list, if we are contenders in 2010 (Within Top 5 or even top 10... Now the cupboards are starting to fill up and PT is a strong issue for many, but winning is the neutralizer to PT. As for the others... they'll seek another school anyway, for immediate PT and exposure.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Randy
Hell, look what Randy has done over the past 3 recruiting years, starting from scratch and staying within the top 10 or 20 out of 120, is nothing short of amazing, when you're 5/7,7/5,9/3...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I think Lyons ends up at UF. Jabari Gorman (Pace) is probably the #1 target at S.

yea I actually have Rowdy Gaines ranked a little higher than Six you will see his bio in an upcoming article.

There are some REALLY intersting athletes in the next few groups.

Dillard's Montimere (now 22) enrolls at a Texas high school and becomes a basketball star again.

A West Texas student who led his high school basketball team to the state playoffs last season was actually a 22-year-old man, police said Tuesday.

Police say the basketball star was really Guerdwich Montimere, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Haiti who school officials say was recognized last month by Florida coaches as having been a star high school player in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a few years ago.

Ector County school district officials said the man posed as 16-year-old Jerry Joseph and enrolled at Permian High School in Odessa for the 2009-2010 academic year. He also presented himself as homeless to the school's basketball coach, Danny Wright, who took the boy in last summer, the coach said.

Montimere was arrested at Permian High on Tuesday and booked into Ector County jail on a charge of presenting false identification to a peace officer.

Officials said Jerry Joseph originally enrolled at the local junior high as a 15-year-old in February 2009, then moved on to high school.

Yeah. Frazier is a LONG shot. Bridgewater I think we get, just a matter of time. Also as far as O'Leary I'd think UGA and Ohio State (family ties) were pretty high, BUT UGA is in a weird situation with Richt on the HOT SEAT. IF he has another sub-par season I think he's out and all bets are off on O'Leary. I think he LEGITIMATELY likes us and I'd go as far as to say we are near the top. We use the TE and with Gordon leaving there will be an opportunity especially if he graduates early and is there in January.

Voters' Anti-Establishment Mood Bites Both Parties

Associated Press
WASHINGTON

Perhaps the clearest example of veteran lawmakers' woes is the tough challenge being thrown at Sen. John McCain of Arizona -- the GOP's presidential nominee two years ago.

The anti-establishment political tide that ousted a three-term GOP senator in Utah has spread well beyond the tea party.

It toppled a longtime Democratic congressman from West Virginia on Tuesday, and several White House-favored lawmakers elsewhere are confronting liberal voters who don't want party elites telling them what to do.

In Pennsylvania, many Democratic voters seem unmoved by President Barack Obama's pleas to embrace former Republican Arlen Specter in next Tuesday's Senate primary.

Specter's nomination seemed virtually assured last year when the entire Democratic establishment, including Gov. Ed Rendell, backed him in exchange for his switch from the GOP. But Rep. Joe Sestak, who bills himself as the contest's true Democrat, has erased Specter's big lead in the polls.

The May 18 vote is expected to be close, and Obama has cut a last-minute TV ad for Specter in hopes of avoiding an embarrassing upset.

Should Specter lose, he would be the third prominent politician in a month to fall in intraparty contests dominated by restless voters who show little respect for well-established figures and party leaders.

In Florida, Republican Gov. Charlie Crist was expected to cruise into the Senate, with barely a thought to his party's primary. But conservative Marco Rubio and tea party activists drove Crist out of the GOP, and he is running as an independent.

In Utah, 17-year Senate veteran Bob Bennett fell victim Saturday to the once-unthinkable claim that he's not conservative enough for the Republican Party. His sins, according to tea party activists who taunted him at a GOP convention, include voting for the 2008 bank bailout pushed by Republican President George W. Bush.

In Democratic races, Sens. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Michael Bennet of Colorado are battling viable primary opponents attacking them from the left. Obama supports both incumbents, but their challengers portray themselves as more faithful to Democratic priorities.

In West Virginia, 14-term Rep. Alan Mollohan lost the Democratic nomination for his seat to state Sen. Mike Oliverio on Tuesday. Oliverio attacked Mollohan from the right, rather than the left, and focused on the lawmaker's history of ethics probes.

Don't worry about Teddy and what he says in interviews

bg exactly,

Wasn't Jacory teasing everybody about Oregon for a whole season just to keep things interesting?

Teddy understands it's his job now to drive the recruiting media in South Florida, he is up to the task. lol!

DZ8

It wasn't a whole season it was one comment when he came back from his official visit to Oregon. Some of us tore him apart for about a week afterwards.

Good morning solar.

Ungar

I just wanted to say again that I have enjoyed the 50 Fabulous Floridians thread.

So much better than the other options that got rejected:

50 Fabulous Teds:
Six - "Solar, we can't use Ted Bundy, he might be famous, he might have accomplished alot, but he doesn't make me proud."
Solar - "Fine, but then you gotta remove Theodore the chipmunk. He was third behind AWlvin and Simon, and never wen't by Ted, and he isn't even REAL."

50 Fabulous Waterside Hairdos:
Solar - "The B-52's were nothing without the beehive, you gotta have that one in there."
Six - "The Beatles mop tops are ranked higher, sorry. There were four of them, they were more famous, and Yellow Submarine is a better water song than Rock Lobster."

50 Fabulous Foods:
Six - "Pizza is number one. We are writing for a college team, and it is the top college food."
Solar - "I disagree. Hot Dogs are the All-American food, and an All-American is better than a regular college kid."

50 Fabulous Tshirts:
Solar - "I'm With Stupid with the arrow on it has gotta be number one. Classic, international, and funny."
86 (bursting into the room Kool-Aide style) - "WHAT! The Canespace shirt is number one, and if not, I will EDIT IT to number one."
Six - "Sorry solar, he out-ranks me by 80 points, I gotta go with the Canespace shirt."

My spellchecker is busted, as in I didn't proofread:

"Alvin and Simon, and never went"

Ungar

If he signs are a Cane, Bridgewater moves to the top for the 50 Fabulous Teds, right in front of Hendricks.

Here is a question I am having trouble answering:

The strength of the Miami Hurricane defense in 2009 was:
Defensive Tackles
Defensive Ends
Linebackers
Safeties
Cornerbacks

I don't think any of them played consistent or good enough to be considered a strength.

Anybody agree or disagree?

Fighting Ibis

INJURIES!

Posted by: bg1906 | May 12, 2010 at 01:41 PM

Ding! Ding! Ding!

At one point last season we had 19 players on the injury list. Not only were we young but we couldn't get any consistency because we were always juggling players around.

Not only will all those injured players be healthy this year but all the players who got PT who normally wouldn't have will add depth.

Expect our defense to be very good this year.

Aqua

The defense was exceptional on 3rd down.

Aqua

Honestly, they were good on 1st and 2nd down. Just didn't get off the field when we needed it.

j.w.

When they were healthy, I would go with the Safetys. Not saying they were lights out all the time, but they were generally good until we lost our depth back there.

bg1906

Honestly, they were good on 1st and 2nd down. Just didn't get off the field when we needed it.

Reminds me of high school. Good at first and second base, but couldn't get off when I needed it!

DZ8

So I got one/sort of vote for the safeties so far.

Injuries isn't an answer. It might be an excuse or reason or however you want to call it.

Can anybody say that we had one position on defense last year that was a strength?

If forced I'd say defensive tackle. I guess.

DZ8

100% right about 3rd down futility. That overtime Clemson TD was on third and sixteen I believe. There are other examples out there.

Aqua

Lol, Ungar.

LeBron has a whole hell of a lot of growing up to do

It's going to either be the following from Cavs bandwagoneers

If they lose:
"He couldn't play like usual b/c of his elbow"

-or-

If they win:
"He's the greatest to ever play, he played with that elbow and still won"

All the hype. All the "Witness" stuff. "King James" this and that. All the obscenely ovderdone manlove from Jay-Z. All the talk of people saying he's the best to play

Nope

He's a crybaby when he loses - remember the bullcrap he pulled after the Magic beat them, he didn't shake anyone's hand, he headed directly to the lockerroom and said "I'm a winner" afterward?

The Cavs went and got him some help. Antwan Jamison and Shaq to eat up minutes, draw fouls, be a big body underneath

Then he comes out with this statement, after the Celtics obliterated them AT CLEVELAND 120-88 ... "I spoil a lot of people with my play. When you have three bad games in seven years, it’s easy to point them out."

How about this LeBron .. how about going and buying some Dwayne Wade or Kobe Bryant, or hell -even Rajon Rondo- pajamas to wear at night to bed, so you can sleep and dream to be them one day

Ya, Rajon Rondo. The 6 foot, 180 lb. soaking wet point guard that is killing it right now for the Celtics

But then he goes to the free throw line up 3 against the Bulls, and hit the first free throw to ice it, then all of a sudden cant lift the elbow?? AJH will be a safety before it's all said and done. He's the right sized, fast enough, and has the smarts, especially quarterback smarts. I'm putting it out there right now. Check this blog out a couple of years from now. I beleive that was the plan all along, but with the two defections last summer at QB those plans were delayed.

I didn't say injuries didn't happen I said they weren't the answer!

After injuries, and cold weather and inexperience and rain and whatever else you want to throw on there! What was the strength of our defense last year, what position? In your opinion.

If you don't want to answer 'cause you'd rather look to the future then fine. Just skip over my post like many other people do and EVERYONE does to solar. But don't sit there and say I didn't say injuries didn't happen. They did. I said that. If you want to say thats why our year didn't go perfectly last year then go ahead and suck on your injury pacifier.

CanesCanesCanes

Posted by: DZ8 | May 12, 2010 at 04:34 PM

My guess is next year, barring Whipple and Morris just not getting it, or injuries.

Think about it. If it were you or me, and we were looking long term and had his size, speed, smarts, and overall ability, the you know he's going to be better as a DB. Unless I'm not seeing something, he doesn't look like he'd be much more that average as a QB. I generally have a bias against short QB's and I think that's partially where I'm coming from, but seriously, he's not even 6ft.

I would love if he could move there next year and take a redshirt. Let RayRay and VT play another year. Jamal Reid and AJ Highsmith, starting safeties, 2012?

The issue will be at QB. What year is Whipple? If he is a junior this year it could work out. Morris redshirts this year and then next year we have:
J12 Sr
Whipple Sr?
Morris R-Fr
New recruit(s)

CanesCanesCanes

Don't hold me to this, but I think Whipple's a junior

Hurricane Football Earns NCAA APR Recognition

UM football program one of only two ACC teams recognized

Miami has been recognized as having posted a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent

May 12, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami football program was among those honored today by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for its latest Academic Progress Report score (APR).

The football program was recognized as having posted a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent. Miami was the only Bowl Championship Subdivision (BCS) team among the 26 schools recognized that finished ranked in the final USA Today Coaches Poll and Associated Press poll after the 2009 season. UM and Duke were the only two Atlantic Coast Conference football programs recognized.

"We are very proud of our football program for earning this tremendous recognition by the NCAA," UM Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "Our athletics department mission is focused on developing and supporting our student-athletes in their efforts to achieve personal, academic and athletic excellence. I extend my sincere appreciation to our student-athletes for their continued hard work and focus on academic success."

The APR is designed to provide a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking academic progress for each student-athlete. Each year a student-athlete may earn one point for being eligible and one point for retention per semester for a total of four points per academic year. The total points are then divided by the number of potential points each team could have earned. That percentage is then multiplied by 1000 to provide each team with its APR. The NCAA has established 925 as the cut-off mark for an acceptable score. Any team below that standard may be subject to penalties.

Results for every team by sport will be released in the coming days. Those scores will be based on the 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years.

Do you know if that means he'll be a senior when the 2010 school year begins? Thats where it gets tricky sometimes. How is Allen Bailey/DVD/Damien Berry listed. One of the guys we know will be a senior next year, not all of them haha.

If you don't want to post it, email me at nvalenziano@lycos.com.
