Your University of Miami baseball team earned the No. 1 seed in the Coral Gables Regional, one of 16 Regional tournaments that are part of the 2010 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
The Hurricanes will host the following teams at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field June 4-7: Texas A&M, Dartmouth and crosstown rival Florida International.
Miami (40-17) will face Dartmouth (26-17) in the regional's second game at 4 p.m. on Friday following the 12 p.m. match-up between Texas A&M (40-19-1) and FIU (36-23).
The best part for Hurricane fans across the Country is that the entire Coral Gables Regional will be shown live on ESPNU, with games at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Hurricanes earned an at-large bid from the NCAA while Dartmouth is in the field as the automatic qualifier out of the Ivy League. Texas A&M is the automatic qualifier as the champion of the Big XII tournament and FIU earned a bid as the champion of the Sun Belt Tournament.
The ACC tied the Pac-10 and SEC for most teams selected for the tournament with eight teams chosen from each conference as part of the 64 team field.
Ticket packages for the entire Coral Gables Regional are $90 for field box, $60 for chairback, $45 for adult general admission and $30 for youth, seniors and students. Those packages will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Single day passes go on sale later this week.
Tickets can be purchased beginning on Tuesday, June 1. To order tickets visit www,hurricanesports.com or call 305-284-CANE or 1-800-GO-CANES. The UM ticket office will be open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
UM has advanced to the College World Series 18 of the 22 times it has hosted a regional. Miami holds an all-time record of 76-11 (.874) in NCAA Regional play at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. This marks the 12th time in head coach Jim Morris' 17 years at Miami that the Hurricanes have played host to a regional.
Now if only Miami can get starting pitcher Eric Erickson back from injury and the UM bullpen can hold up, maybe we can have some fun in Coral Gables?
GO CANES!
Andre Johnson and Storm Johnson come to mind as guys that can run pretty swiftly while looking like football players.
Aldarius Johnson not so much.

Let's play coach!
What would be your pitching rotation for the regional...
Tournament Schedule My choices...
Friday, June 4
Game 1 - Dartmouth vs. Miami, 4 p.m. Jason Santana
Saturday, June 5
Game 2 - Assuming it will be Texas A&M vs. Miami 4 p.m. Chris Hernandez
Sunday, June 6
David Gutierrez
Monday, June 7
If necessary, 7 p.m
Eric Whaley
If ever we have to play the ultimate game i prefer to have Whaley as the starter than Santana....Erickson is not coming back this year.

From tomahawk nation.....
The 2010 Heisman Trophy Odds are out and the boys in Vegas have pegged Christian Ponder with the 11th-best odds (tied with 4 other players).
Mark Ingram 350
Terrelle Pryor 500
Ryan Mallett 1000
Case Keenum 1200
Dion Lewis 1200
Jacory Harris 1200
John Clay 1200
Noel Devine 1200
Jake Locker 1200
Evan Royster 1200
Christian Ponder 1500
Andrew Luck 1500
DeMarco Murray 1500
Kellen Moore 1500
Ingram (defending champion), Pryor (Nat'l Champ contender), Mallett (ridiculous numbers and draft stock), Keenum (video game numbers), Lewis (potentially on a 10-win team), Clay (five thousand rushing attempts), and Devine (highlight tape) all make sense.
Harris led the country in interceptions last season (17). That would be quite the jump for the disappointing Junior from Miami. Locker won't get an invite because he plays for a Washington Huskies team that'll lose a minimum of 4 games and because his numbers and supporting cast are not very good. Royster won't get an invite because he isn't a special back, doesn't put up great numbers, and plays on a Penn State team that is projected to finish 5th in the Big 10. And it's difficult for a running back to win.
Ponder sound probably be in the group of seven tied for 4th. I don't understand how Kellen Moore is tied for 11th. He'll put up video-game numbers once again against a tissue paper schedule and the Broncos will once again be in the BCS by virtue of playing that schedule. I'd expect Moore's odds to quickly change as bettors quickly correct that error.

Hurridave
It all depends on what the Big 12 and then The Big 10 do.
If The big 12 goes to 16 teams like they are planning to The SEC says they will go to 16 right away with FSU, Miami being two of teams being first invited.
By the time the Big 12 gets done;
Remember there is a lot involved with hijacking schools out of conferences,
and the SEC old timers try and boycott change It will be close a decade before any of this is happening as far as Miami in my opinion.
They are already saying the penalties imposed to leave conferences to join a super conference are going to be severe.

Posted by: autumn | June 01, 2010 at 07:48 AM
If the big ten had a competive conference They would have never talked about having to expand and started all this.
Then The Big 12 which is a young conference already, is wanting to be a super conference
Then you have the SEC that wants to own college football's every dollar jumping in.
Posted by: solarcane | June 01, 2010 at 07:55 AM
off to work
Man if Miami GT and FSU do bolt to the SEC,
The ACC might as well retire the Football trophy in VT's trophy case for the next 20 years.
Posted by: solarcane | June 01, 2010 at 07:57 AM
The question is: Does the SEC REALLY want Miami?
Or do they want:
GT (to match with GA),
Clemson (to match with SC)
And the pairing of UNC and NCST?
Those are all more natural fits into the SEC than Miami or possibly FSU.
If The SEC goes to 16 teams and steals those four from the ACC then does the ACC and Big East join to make their own Super Conference?

Old news for Dolphins fans...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dolphins Legend Zach Thomas Retires
May 27th, 2010
Dolphins great " Zach Thomas" retired today at a 4 o’clock press conference.
Thomas signed a one day contract worth $1 so he could retire as a Fin.
“To have him retire as a Miami Dolphin, that’s special. Zach will always be viewed as an iconic figure for the Miami Dolphins,” said General Manager Jeff Ireland, who quickly accepted Thomas’ request on Wednesday to sign a ceremonial deal. “What Zach has been able to accomplish, who he is, is a great example to every player on this team.”
Thomas was one of a kind as an NFL linebacker
Zach was a fan favorite among pretty much all Dolphins fans, and will be missed greatly. He had everything that fans want in a player, and he showed it on the field.
He was simply one of those blue collar guys that gives his all, and throughout his 12 year tenure in Miami, there was not one single down that Zach did not give his absolute all.
Zach finished his career with 1,720 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 17 interceptions (four for touchdowns), 15 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries. The team’s 1996 fifth-round pick led the team in tackles in 10 of his 12 seasons in Miami and reached the 100-tackle plateau in all but one season.
Thomas amassed all of these great stats as the aforementioned 5th round pick, as a guy that was “too short, and too slow” to do anything great like he accomplished in his career. He was the classic underdog, and like most underdogs, he came away victorious with the feats that he accomplished throughout his career. You should be proud of yourself, you deserve it after all of the hard work you have done for not only yourself, but for the Miami Dolphins organization as well.
Thomas will be missed in the NFL, and will go down in history as one of the Dolphins all-time greats.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Which brings me to my posting of ZZZZZ.
The little guy with heart, that was just too small to play at MLB... drafted 5th tier, that became one of the most ferocious football players to have played the game for 12 years as a Dolphin....
Was garage hopping yesterday, looking for fishing gear and ran into a "Zack Thomas" Football Jersey (New, I say, New Condition), for a fiver. Got me smiling as I talked to the owner and he asks the question... He's no longer on the team, is he?... as I said yeah, he's been gone, as I shook my head in disbelief !!!
It goes without saying... It made my day, like a trophy fish, after fishing all day on the deep blue!!!!

Just your average holiday in the Keys...
Having fun, but Ya-gotta know your limits.
Miami man dies while spearfishing in the Keys.
By CAMMY CLARK
cclark@MiamiHerald.com
A 24-year-old Miami man died Monday afternoon while free diving and spearfishing about five miles off shore of Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.
The man was on a private vessel with two friends, a man and a woman, also from Miami. The two men shot a grouper and were trying to get it into the boat.
The male friend told deputies they repeatedly dove to the sea bottom, about 35 feet deep and without the aid of scuba gear, to try to get the injured fish out of some rocks.
The male friend said he saw the victim surface, and that he appeared to be fine. But when the male friend surfaced again, he couldn't find his friend. He dove again and found him not breathing at the bottom.
The two friends pulled the victim into the boat, called 911 and began CPR...

Can you imagine what they would say if we really did join the SEC?? Personally, I wouldn't mind. I get tired about hearing how the SEC is the best league...so it would be nice to be part of that group.

I don't understand the title:
"Regional Renews Rivalry", we had a rivalry with Dartmouth? TAMU? FIU?
Just saying.
As for Miami joining the SEC, I am all for it after the ACC ignored their rules by letting FSU bypass us for the Gator Bowl even though we were ranked higher, had the better record, and had beaten them head to head.
The ACC has not fulfilled their side of the bargain, so I will feel no guilt in leaving them behind.
However, I would only do it if we are in the same division as the Gators. Forcing them to play us on our good years too instead of cherry-picking our rebuilding years would be a good thing.
And we ARE the REAL southeast, these northwestern people like Alabama and Tennessee are the wannabe southeasterners. 8-)

I was watching some HBO sports show last night, Greg Bryant is a douchebag, and they had this story of this kid who was born without arms past the elbows or legs past the knees.
Didn't stop him though as he was a wrestler and even played some youth football, was a d linemen. Amazing story and the kid has the best attitude in the world, wants to climb mt everest some day.
His name is Kyle Manard and he owns a gym in northern georgia, might be in your neck of the woods. He named the gym, No Excuses, very good story.
Posted by: DZ8 | June 01, 2010 at 01:55 PM
TAMU is a tough #2 team to have in our bracket.
I noticed that UF was given a free ride with no ranked teams in their bracket.
But since they lost to two unranked teams in their regional, maybe that is a good thing.
And FSU, despite being ranked 10th and winning the ACC Tournament, doesn't get a regional, and could have been sent down the street to UF, but instead goes to Connecticut against three freebie teams.
So, UM will have the toughest of the three brackets, but all three should make it to the superregionals.

Seriously though, like the Big Apple, the metro SoFla area is way too " cosmopolitan " for all those backwater towns in the S.E.C to tolerate.

I THINK, that if we can get Teddy Bridgewater to commit it would help our recruiting in many ways. We are going after a couple of WR's. GT left the SEC in 1964 because even rocket scientists can be some dum sumbiches
Posted by: solarcane | June 01, 2010 at 03:20 PM
Sorry, solar, I think you are cool and all that, but GT left with good reason.
http://oversigning.com/testing/index.php/2010/02/14/why-did-georgia-tech-leave-the-sec/
"The presidents were split six for Dodd’s position and six against. Bear had promised Dodd he would get his president to vote for Dodd’s position, which would have changed the rule.
When the meeting was held, Bryant did not show up and the Alabama president voted against Dodd’s position and the 140 Rule was upheld. Tech’s president immediately walked to the podium and announced Tech was withdrawing from the SEC. Bryant never told Dodd why he reneged on his promise."
"I just could not compete with those damn state universities. And Auburn is just as easily a state university. They could take these same boys we couldn't take, who wanted to come and play for me. And it just broke me down. I couldn't beat'em. You can just outcoach'em some of the time, brother. Better football players will beat you."
So, GT had a good reason, they had ethical and academic standards, unlike most of the SEC teams in the 1960s. Funny how they are still oversigning and dumping players today.
Posted by: Ungar | June 01, 2010 at 03:32 PM
macjones is right, unfortunately.
There are three conference champions in our bracket, and we are not one of them. Yes, their conferences are not as tough as the ACC, but they know how to win tournament games. We got the toughest bracket, again.

I don't want to hear about the "passion" that soccer fans have either
Raiders and Eagles fans are the most passionate in the world about their team - to the point of scariness - but the MALE FANS are not running onto the field, wanting to play tonsil hockey with DeSean Jackson or Nnamdi Asomugha and caress their faces

Six,
I remember being at a Phillies game hosting the Astros, (who when I do manage to watch baseball are my squad), and some Hurculean-sized guy took off my Stros' and threw it.
Me and my boy stood up, then he sat up, THEN stood up, and told me I must be crazy wearing that sh!t today. Then he dropped an N-Bomb on both of us.(Which was inaccurate because my boy J was Anglo) Then his girl made him sit down, and while he was busy swashbuckling it up with his posse went and got my hat for me, and even offered to pay for it of o thought it was messed up.
I love Philly.........

Maybe he was working in the sewers, and wanted to fit in with the other belly-crawling gators down there?
You didn't let him in the house, did you?
Posted by: Ungar | June 01, 2010 at 02:17 PM
I did.....he had a box of Cubans and Petron. I had a weak moment :-)
Posted by: raizecane | June 01, 2010 at 04:36 PM
And for what its worth,
Philly was my favorite team, until Wild Thing gave up that blast to Joe Carter.
After that, I was so heartbroken that I could never fully latch back on to them, or really baseball, again.
I guess I kinda root for all Philly teams to a least be successful, on the low.

and while he was busy swashbuckling it up
LMAO! what a line!!

ungar
I was speaking for the billion dollars or more GT decided they didn't need.
So now the SEC would be held in high esteem as far as ethics go because Miami and GT would jump at the chance to make a few million more every season by back stabbing the Always Coasting Conference?
Posted by: solarcane | June 01, 2010 at 03:41 PM
The ACC backstabbed us first. They STILL haven't explained how 6-6 FSU could be picked before 9-3 Miami for the Gator Bowl. We would have trounced West Virginia, and had a much better field to play on. They worked on that field after Cooper's injury to make sure that FSU and WVU had the kind of field we should have had. And 52 degrees in daylight is much better to play in than 40s and windy in the dark.
So, if the SEC makes a good offer, I am willing to listen. Had the ACC treated us better, I would hold off. But they seem to feel they have us and can ignore the rules when it comes to Miami.
The biggest negative I see to this? SEC refs are NOTORIOUS, as we have seen. I know the ACC refs have a chip on their shoulder, but the SEC refs have "a boulder on their shoulder, feeling kinda older, they trip the merry go round".
So yeah, if the ACC wants to ignore their own rules, we can ignore their rules, too.
Look at it this way, they courted us, and stole us from another conference with unfulfilled promises without feeling any guilt, so they had better not whine when someone else does it to them.

Hurriphin - I remember watching that game in college, a lot of the guys I hung out with were from Wilmington and Philly .. a lot of stuff was broken in that room within 5 minutes after that pitch
That Phillies squad looked like a beer league softball team ... Dykstra, Kruk, Dutch Daulton, Mitch Williams, Incaviglia ... or exactly how Danny McBride looks in the show "Eastbound and Down"
http://www.lintcoat.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/picture-3.png
If you want to watch something funny as hell, you gotta NetFlix "Eastbound and Down" Season 1
http://s5.tinypic.com/293a6aq.jpg
After Mitch Williams pitched in that World Series, the best quote I saw from him was when he said he was going back to Philly to have his wedding ....
"I'll be wearing a flak jacket," he said, "and we're going to borrow the Pope's bulletproof limousine."

Q: I don't understand the title: "Regional Renews Rivalry", we had a rivalry with Dartmouth? TAMU? FIU?
A: They are the only three words I know that started with the letter R so I threw them all together.
I meant UM and FIU who used to play every year but haven't lately because of, well, U know why.
Posted by: SOUP | June 01, 2010 at 05:31 PM
Curt Shilling, Kevin Stocker, Micky Morandini, ect.
I loved that team..........They were the initial reason I ever watched baseball. They were a bunch of swashbucklers.

Hurriphin - U of Tampa (home of Lou Piniella, Tino Martinez, John Matuszak, Freddie Solomon, Paul "Mr. Wonderful" Orndorff, and that big chick "Chyna" from WWF)
We had more peeps from the northeast in that school than I've ever been around, while I was there
Cleveland, Rochester, Wilmington, Philly, Buffalo, Hempstead, Binghamton, Boston, Cambridge, Worcester, Stamford, Brockton, Annapolis
So I was constantly around Yankee/Rangers fans, Eagles/Phillies/Flyers fans, Jets/Devils fans and Indians fans .... I was in enemy territory, being a Bucs/Devil Rays/Lightning fan - and we're in TAMPA

CSM, Six...Sunday June 13, Marlins vs Rays at 1 PM. I'm still trying to get free tix but if not, who's in?

Posted by: bg1906 | June 01, 2010 at 05:17 PM
Agreed. If any RB is going to come out as the #1 and only, it would have to be Berry. Although I do like Mike James. I just hope Berry is practicing his pass blocking skills by trying to keep Bailey from the refrigerator.
