1. Vernon looks twice as big each year in the spring as the previous one. He still needs a hair style that doesn't make him look like a bozo though. Great DE though and a real talent.

2. If Jacory does pick up the Dorsey work ethic by close contact osmosis in the preparation department this summer the difference will be immediate and the results palpable automatically unlike the lag it took for him to fill out the upper body strength deficiencies which were going to hinder his on field performance in the corse of his development as a QB.

3. If we aren't going to make a field goal or extra point all year I'd rather watch the depth chart in picture #2 fail to do so than Wieclaw and Co. I'll still be annoyed by the points left on the field but at least I won't be pissed PLUS annoyed, which I'll count as a net positive.

800th win for Jim Morris with the Canes i hope he gets a call from Eichorst and Donna.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Brad Fieger’s two-run homer in the seventh inning pushed the 19th-ranked University of Miami past homestanding University of Maryland in the second game of Sunday’s Atlantic Coast Conference baseball doubleheader, 5-2, at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. The win allowed UMiami to collect the series win – their fifth of the season in league play.

With the win, University of Miami head coach Jim Morris – now enjoying his18th year at the helm in Coral Gables – picked up his 800th win as the skipper of the Miami Hurricanes.

With Harold Martinez on second base in the seventh inning and the game tied at two, freshman third baseman Brad Fieger picked up his first home run of the year with a deep shot to left centerfield to bolt Miami (24-12, 13-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) out to a 4-2 advantage.

The Canes added an insurance run in the ninth off Maryland (17-20, 4-14 ACC) reliever Korey Wacker, with Fieger picking up his third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to left that crossed Rony Rodriguez from third. Rodriguez kicked off the inning with a leadoff double for the Hurricanes.

After collecting the opening game of Sunday’s doubleheader, 10-2, the Terrapins had a 2-1 lead after three innings of action.

Catcher Aaron Etchison scored the first of two Terrapins runs in the frame on a sacrifice bunt by Korey Wacker – but the throw from UMiami third baseman Brad Fieger was high, allowing Etchison to score. Wacker was called out on the same play at third trying to advance.

The second run came in with Alfredo Rodriguez stealing home plate after Ryan Holland was caught between first and second for the third out of the inning – but he stalled long enough for Rodriguez to score before the tag, giving Maryland a 2-1 lead.

Miami tied the game in the fourth inning when sophomore shortstop Stephen Perez and freshman catcher Shane Rowland completed a double-steal, but Rowland was seemingly caught in a pickle between first and second. Rowland avoided the tag, and then went to second while Perez came around for the score – knotting the contest at 2-all.

Miami scored first in the second inning after Zeke DeVoss laced a single to right field, and then an error on right fielder Charlie White allowed UMiami freshman right fielder Dale Carey to cross from second.

Miami starter E.J. Encinosa collected the win to up his record at 3-2 on the campaign, tossing seven complete innings, allowing two runs – both unearned- on six hits with five strikeouts. The loss went to Maryland reliever Eric Potter, dropping his record at 3-5 for the year.

Junior hurler Daniel Miranda collected his 10th save of the year with an inning tossed in the ninth, allowing a single and striking out one.

Without factoring into the decision, Maryland starter Chuck Ghysels tossed 5 1/3 innings with two earned runs on five hits scattered and striking out five Canes and walking eight. Korey Wacker finished the game on the mound for the Terrapins.

Miami was led offensively in the game by Fieger’s three-RBI performance on his only hit – that being the round-tripper in the seventh. Zeke DeVoss had a two-hit performance in three trips, adding a RBI of his own, and walking twice.

The Maryland Terrapins used the bat of Austin Kilbourne and Tim Kiene to lead the way, each posting 2-for-3 performances at the dish.

Miami returns to the diamond Wednesday, April 20, against non-conference opponent Bethune-Cookman at Alex Rodriguez Park beginning at 6 p.m.

I was very impressed with the run; miller is going to be a huge plus...if he stays healthy. Looks bigger to me. Line can be very good this year, there are some big boys up front.

Need Forston to come back strong and tough; we are weak up the gut, still small compared to the big time teams. Corners should be ok.

QB is a major concern regarding picks. J12 is who he is as a senior, its is going to happen. Morris has got to mature now; you have to think and be aware. In fairness to both it sounded like each had a pick that the WR did not go all out; that is not new either. Streeter was invisible, no TEs showed up. Pretty much where we were last year. Kicking game is kind of shaky without Bosher.

This is the year to grow; for the players and staff to figure it out and start the move toward being relevant. They can win 8 or 9 games, recruit even better and bein the ascent to the elite level. JMO

Manny- Spring Game Observations

After getting to spend a few wonderful weeks at home with my wife and our first child, I got the chance to escape the house -- and diaper duty -- for a few hours Saturday to catch the Canes Spring Game at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

Here are a few thoughts and observations (FYI, Saturday's game will be broadcast on CSS at 5 p.m. Sunday in case you weren't there):

> No Canes assistant has a tougher job ahead of them this summer than offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. I hate to start with the stinky stuff, but it was painfully obvious Saturday that Jacory Harris and Stephen Morris still have a long way to go. Now it's true that the Canes were short on receivers (LaRon Byrd, Aldarius Johnson, Asante Cleveland, Travis Benjamin weren't out there). But with a vanilla offense (Al Golden said there were just seven pass plays used) and an inexperienced secondary, Harris and Morris shouldn't have looked that bad. Both threw two interceptions each (Morris' pick to Sean Spence, which was returned for a TD, was horrendous). But I was more troubled by the poor choices they made with the football, holding onto it for too long at times and just not finding open receivers. Fisch not only has to find a way to get Morris and Harris to protect the football better, but also see the entire field and check down to their running backs and tight ends more often (he kept screaming for that throughout the game). Unless Harris and Morris get it right, 2011 could still end up looking and feeling a lot like last year -- regardless of how much UM improves in other spots.

> Lamar Miller appears ready to hit another gear. Remember when the Canes had Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee and Frank Gore? Lamar Miller, Mike James and Storm Johnson could end up being just as potent a trifecta. All three continued to impress Saturday even though it was Miller who was Saturday's star with three touchdowns and 166 yards on just 10 carries. The question moving forward becomes how Fisch utilizes all three and splits carries and touches. Last season, Miller carried the ball more than 11 times only twice (he had 22 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown versus Maryland and 15 carries for 163 yards and one touchdown versus Virginia Tech). James hit double digits in carries three times (no more than 11). And Storm carried it only nine times all season (for 119 yards, most on a 71-yard TD run versus USF). Personally, I'd make Storm and Miller the primary ball carriers (both are more explosive than James) and use James (13 catches in '10) as the primary pass catcher out of the backfield and the specialist in short yardage situations. And, I would make sure to get the ball into the trios hands one way or the other 75 to 80 percent of the time on offense.

> Moving JoJo Nicolas to cornerback was smart. At first I kind of balked at the idea of seeing Nicolas, a rather average safety, move to cornerback. But Al Golden and his staff obviously saw something most of us hadn't yet in the 6-1, 200-pound senior from Homestead. Nicolas made a couple nice plays in coverage Saturday including batting away a perfectly thrown pass by Harris to Tommy Streeter. Now, I'm not saying Nicolas is going to be able to come in and provide what Brandon Harris did last season. But he could prove to be just as effective as say Ryan Hill was. And that's something this young, inexperienced secondary could use. Brandon McGee, Thomas Finnie and walk-on Andrew Swasey (who appears headed for big things with this team one way or the other) all had picks Saturday. The talent is there, but it feels like the secondary still has a long way to go in terms of development.

> It's time for Tommy Streeter and Kendal Thompkins to really contribute. We heard all about the talents of the former Miami Northwestern receivers before they got to UM. Then, we heard about how great they looked in practice. We've seen glimpses here and there in a handful of games. But after three years, isn't time we stopped hearing and started seeing real results from these guys? Despite reportedly making strides all spring, Streeter had a rough afternoon Saturday. He didn't show enough of a fight for the football on a couple balls he could have had including one in the end zone Swasey (who is seven inches shorter than him) took away from him. Thompkins had a team-high seven catches for 81 yards and made a nice grab near the sideline on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Morris. But we've seen Thompkins do this before in games that don't count. It's time he does it when it matters, especially in the slot where the Canes need help.

> Clive Walford looks like he will be able to help out at tight end. UM's best tight end, Asante Cleveland, missed this spring due to injury. But that gave others a chance to shine. Sounds and feels like Walford was the only one who really took advantage. He had four catches for 48 yards Saturday and looked comfortable blocking. USC transfer Blake Ayles and senior Chase Ford were invisible. Walford said afterward he's got about 90 percent of the playbook down and definitely feels like he will contribute this coming season because "I feel comfortable with blocking." That's great news for the Canes who could use two solid options at tight end.

A FEW MORE QUICK HITS...

> Loved the big hits delivered by safety Ray Ray Armstrong Saturday including one in which he knocked the helmet clean off running back Darion Hall. Armstrong appears as though he's ready to turn the corner.

> I'm not as worried about the middle linebacker spot as I thought I was going to be with Colin McCarthy moving on. Kelvin Cain, Jordan Futch and Jimmy Gaines all appear as though they are headed in the right direction. My guess is Futch will probably earn the starting job in the fall with Cain pushing him hard for playing time.

> Just wanted to give some kudos to Susan Miller Degnan for doing a great job with the blog while I was out. SMD is old school, but she's coming around to enjoying this blogging deal. I think we make a great team. By the way, she needs more Twitter followers. Jump on board @smillerdegnan

PBP

Al Golden's always talking about "X" plays, as in explosive, game-changing efforts, and there truly were a few X men in Saturday's Miami Hurricanes spring game at Lockhart Stadium.

Lamar Miller ripped off touchdown runs of 68 and 64 yards, for instance, and defensive back Andrew Swasey went high in the end zone to intercept what should have been a touchdown catch for Tommy Streeter, who wasted a 7-inch height advantage in letting it happen.

Funny thing about a Miami crowd, though. Show them a little swagger, a little taste of look-at-me performance art, and that's when the grandstands really start shaking. It's X as in excess, and on Saturday, in front of 11,000 Hurricanes partisans, it didn't really matter if the rent-a-referees weren't completely on board.

Sean Spence got everybody warmed up by returning an interception for a touchdown and hurling his body at the padded goal post in spontaneous celebration. The senior linebacker hung there for a few seconds, arms and legs wrapped around the post like Jeff Van Gundy stuck to Alonzo Mourning's leg. Out came the yellow penalty flag, as if anybody cared.

Next on stage was Ray-Ray Armstrong, who knocked the helmet off a freshman running back with a solid hit. Straight out to the 50-yard line Armstrong hustled, and there he stopped to strike a bodybuilding pose, flexing both biceps and generally making everybody glad they came.

Good times. Old times, really, and on a day when members of Miami's 2001 national championship team received the halftime honor of a rousing ovation, why not?

Problem is, and Golden knows it, April's shot and September is coming fast.

Considering he can't choose one shaky quarterback over another, or decide where Miami will go to remedy some pretty severe depth and experience problems on defense, or guess how many players it will take to approximate the output of graduated kicker/punter/MVP Matt Bosher, September is coming way, way too fast.

It would be so much easier all around if quarterback Jacory Harris were playing like a senior, rather than simply having senior moments. His two interceptions Saturday, including one real drive-killer at the goal line, gave sophomore Stephen Morris permission to throw two picks of his own without giving ground in their high-profile, low-output competition.

"Too close to call right now," said Golden, still waiting for a bolt of clarity from above.

More likely this guesswork will continue all summer, as it did for most of Randy Shannon's final season as Miami coach, like a blind taste test between dusty cans of Coke and Pepsi that have lost their fizz.

In the quarterbacks' defense, these spring games are nothing like the real thing. There are no shifts or men in motion to throw the defense off the scent. What's more, there were no more than six or seven passing plays in Saturday's playbook. With so small a palette, it's pretty tough to produce a masterpiece.

New offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch can't count, though, on his running backs to provide all the spark, as Miller and Storm Johnson did in this dress rehearsal. Can't have his all his wide receivers taking a number in the training room, either.

Could be worse. Five of Ohio State's star players will be in the midst of a five-game suspension when the Buckeyes come to Miami Sept. 17, and head coach Jim Tressel, too. That's not just a drop-off in talent. It's a trapdoor.

So we'll give Golden all the time he's got coming to make X men out of Shannon's old F Troop. He won't have to go far to improve on 7-6, but he'll have to go some.

Asked following Saturday's game if he got to savor the fresh and bracing experience of being Miami's head coach in a simulated game setting, Golden said: "It's been so busy that I haven't had a chance to enjoy any of it.

"For about 3.5 seconds out there, I enjoyed it."

Good times on Saturday, but here's a Hurricane warning that Golden's arrival can't instantly erase. The best possible estimate remains that the great times are still a couple or three seasons away.

Wait for it. Watch for it. If everything works out, there should soon be 3.5 hours, not seconds, to enjoy on Saturday afternoons.

Old Skool

If Fisch can't improve the QB's decision making, we could see a new type of play this year: the play action run.

Hurricanes’ Buchanan enters pre-trial diversion program
by Jorge Milian

UM linebacker Ramon Buchanan has agreed to a pre-trial diversion program that will clear him of felony charges resulting from an incident in a Coconut Grove club last month.

Buchanan must complete 100 hours of community service, write letters of apology to two police officers involved in the incident and donate $300 to community programs under an agreement reach by the state attorney’s office and Joseph Rosenbaum, Buchanan’s attorney.

Ramon Buchanan

Once Buchanan completes the pre-trial program, his record will be cleared.

”He apologized to the police officers and they had no objection,” Rosenbaum said. “No one got hurt. It was one of those things. It’s just something that spun out of control. He’s not that type of kid. From everyone I’ve talked to, he’s a real good kid, a quiet kid. Just something that could happen to anybody.”

Buchanan did not appear in court on Monday. He was suspended indefinitely by coach Al Golden following his arrest but was reinstated two weeks later.

Buchanan was facing felony counts of resisting arrest and battery after allegedly spitting on and attempting to head butt a police officer, as well as three misdemeanor charges.

Miami-Dade circuit court judge Jorge Rodriguez Chomat warned Buchanan through his attorney that “he could blow away his future with conduct like this.”

Rosenbaum said Buchanan has already apologized to the police officers in person and has sent a letter of apology to university president Donna Shalala.

Montreal-Cane

by CaneSport.com Staff

All charges against Ramon Buchanan will be dropped as it was announced in court today that the Hurricane linebacker will enter into a pre-trial intervention program. Assuming he meets the tasks in that program his record expunged.

Who Let The Dogs In?

Prospect charged in locker room theftEmail Print Comments9 ESPN.com news services

Three suspects, including a highly touted Georgia prep football prospect, have been arrested for thefts from Georgia's locker room, according to state media reports.

Deion Bonner, Marquis Hawkins and a third suspect, a juvenile who was not identified due to his age, were arrested and charged with theft by taking, a misdemeanor, University of Georgia police said. All three are from Carver (Columbus) High School.

SEC blog
ESPN.com's Chris Low writes about all things SEC in his conference blog.

College Football Nation

Bonner, an 18-year-old defensive back whom the Atlanta Journal-Constitution named one of the state's top 10 prospects for 2012, was charged with one count of theft by taking. Hawkins, 17, was charged with two counts and the juvenile was charged with three counts. The juvenile is 16 years old, the Augusta Chronicle reported.

Bonner and Hawkins were booked at Athens-Clarke County Jail on Monday morning.

The suspects are alleged to have taken iPods and iPhones from the lockers of seven Georgia players during an open house on April 7.

Marquise Hawkins -- who, according to the AJC, is not a college football prospect -- is the twin brother of Carver quarterback Marqui Hawkins, who is a prospect for the Class of 2013, Carver coach Dell McGee said, according to the report. McGee said he was unable to comment on the charges.

Carver High School has been a fertile recruiting ground for Georgia, as 2011 signee Isaiah Crowell, ranked by ESPN as the No. 1 running back in the country and No. 4 in the ESPN 150, and sophomore linebacker Jarvis Jones both hail from the school.

University police chief Jimmy Williamson said search warrants were obtained last week and arrest warrants were issued Friday. Asked how the probe resulted in arrests, Williamson said "Good investigation, people's involvement and Facebook is always a big help," according to the AJC.

The UGA Athletic Association did not return phone calls seeking comment, according to the AJC.

Not a fan or happy with pre trial diversion. The man committed felonies. Liberal thought may be everybody deserves a chance; you never teach lessons when there are no consequences. So he is sorry for being drunk, smelly, unshaven, broken toothed, and stupid!!! He said it right: I am a football player I will get off...and he did. The judge, police, Donna and Golden Boy dropped the ball, pulled strings and he got off. He got away with several crimes, he is an idiot with an attitude, learned nothing.....and has done nothing on the field. If it was you or me, there would be no pre trial diversion; we would pull time. Some people think that he got a break; its called elitism and entitlement. I am pissed about it; sent DS a nasty e mail and told her what I thought of the situation. They dropped the ball and let a jerk slide. Punch a first timer in the mouth, he won't come back for more; teach him a lesson, not reward him with a cakewalk. This incident is pure bull hockey!! JMO

Ohio - I hope you are right. Martin doesn't concern me as much as Niskanen or whatever his name is. I will be blogging here for the Pens game: Pensburgh.com

CGNC

VA Cane - I am not the biggest fan of DS but one thing seems to me she is pretty strict when it comes to getting into trouble it seems. If she can investigate what happened and be ok with it, so can I. It is probably literally a first offense for him too.

fmcane

va cane, just so you know pre-trial diversion is something that is available to all u.s. citizens. if it is the first offense for some one felony or not they can opt for the pre-trial diversion and they must still complete court ordered restitution and programs. When that is completed the charges are expunged from the record. I am not a fan of or defending what he did, just saying that pre-trial diversion aint just for the elite. it is for everyone

canechic

Va cane I am pretty liberal but I really agree with you on this one. I am cool with second chances and in the grand scheme of life what he did was probably minor for the criminal system but I really think he should be off the team. I really hope golden knows what he is doing because to the outside world it does not look good and does not set much of an example to the other players on the team. I think it is the pure disrespect that gets my ire up. I am not a big defender of Miami-Dade police officers but...

If this was a Gator player we would all be up in arms....sigh!

canechic

And by disrespect I don't mean just for the officers but also for the team, the school, his Mom, and for himself.

Like I tell my kids you behave like this and it tells me you do not have much respect for yourself.

AlpharettaCane

I'm with VaCane on this one. Big believer in zero tolerance, and you have to know that Golden and Co. must've laid out the program to these guys.

Stupid mistake? Yeah.
Have I been there? Yeah.

These guys know better.

I'll root for him, and be glad to hear that he (perhaps) will make the most of his 2nd chance, but I would've preferred Golden tow the line and use this as an example of what can happen when a player lets himself, his teammates, his coaches and his university down.

Man I thought exactly the same thing canechic.
If a gator spit on a cop and tried to head butt him, we would be calling for castration at the least and maybe a good stoning too.

I'm with the strict crowd on this one, The U sold out this particular time.

VaCane, glad to see you posting i know you have had a tough year.

fm,
good info on that, thanks

RCCF

If God is the only person who can honestly judge wht makes U liberals believe tht kid didnt deserve a 2nd chance...He has never been in trouble but U wanna stone the guy for goin hard on an officer...PahLease...I bet U guys were tht mad whn Marve got off and startd the next season...smh...U guys should be happy the Kid got a 2nd chance bcuz he is jus tht....a Kid....tht is all

canechic

RCCF like I said I am all about 2nd chances but remember he is 21 not 18, I tend to cut an 18 year old a little more slack that a 21 year old. As a senior he must be leader and set an example to the younger kids on the team, he should be held to a higher standard. The biggest problem with this team is lack of leadership and how does this help? He broke a rule, he was arrested,if the rule is zero tolerance....he made a choice broke the rule and choices be they good or bad come with consequences. This how everyone learns kids and adults alike.

I hope he has learned and will turn it around...I believe in the little I know about Golden. I hope he did the right thing but most of all I hope cookie gets his head on straight and starts respecting himself.

solarcane

RCCF
If he deserved it or not he got another chance.
It's what he does now that is important.

When I was in 6th grade I got mad at my teacher and broke two windows out of her room at Croissant Park Elementary after school.
Plenty of witnesses.

When I went to juvenile court, the judge released me to my mom, she immediately tossed me back and let me spend Thursday through Sunday in Junior Haven.
( she even had to pay for my meals)
Believe it or not sometime parents are whole lot smarter about what is good for their kid than college presidents, fans and football coaches dying to win games.

Thinking about Jacory I'm going to use TJ Yates from UNC as an example of what getting your head together can do.

Yates as a junior was almost booed off the field several times.
jr year 2,136 yds 15 tds and 19 ints 60%

He spent the off season catching hell for his on field suckery. He didn't give up on himself.

Senior year he showed the most leadership of any player in the ACC, maybe all of college football.
He kept his team is games where they were starting a lot of 3ed and 4th string at UNC at a lot of positions.
Yates passed for 3,418 yds 19 tds and only 9 ints ( 2 by Miami)66%

I'm not saying Jacory is going to catch fire, but he could.
If J12 looks the same in game one I think you go with S17 the rest of the season.
If they are really dead even, what is the upside of Morris watching Jacory play, if Morris is gonna be here next year?

Golden Bear thinks Tressel took one for the upper crust.

In the month or so since it was announced that Jim Tressel would hold himself to the “same standard” as his players and imposed a five-game suspension on himself, there’s been no real hard news regarding “the episode“. And, to be perfectly blunt, there’s still no real news.

However, when (Warning! Personal opinion ahead!) the greatest golfer of all-time who also happens to be a graduate of Ohio State chimes in on the situation, we’ll go ahead and make note of it. Although we get the feeling the school’s president and athletic director would prefer the Golden Bear’s voice box went into hibernation for a while.

Speaking at a fundraising luncheon for his Memorial Tournament, Jack Nicklaus was questioned by the assembled media on what has transpired with Tressel over the past couple of months. While admitting he doesn’t “know what really happened”, Nicklaus still advanced his theory that there’s no way others within the university didn’t know about the information the coach had, that at least two of his players had likely received impermissible benefits, and sat on for months.

“I’ll promise you that Tressel wasn’t the only one who knew what happened,” Nicklaus was quoted as saying by the Columbus Dispatch. “I’m going to bet you the university, I’m going to bet you (president E. Gordon) Gee and I’m going to bet you (athletics director) Gene (Smith) and everybody else knew, and Tressel probably took the hit for it. Whether I’m right or whether I’m wrong, I don’t know. …

“I can’t imagine the rest of the university didn’t know what was going on. Jim, who is a terrific guy, maybe he decided to take it on his own shoulders. I don’t know. That could well be. I’m not privy to that. I just like him a lot.”

That sound you may have just heard was Gee and/or Smith cringing mightily.

Of course, Nicklaus’ theory flies in the face of what we think we “know” to be the truth behind the case. Tressel received information via email on April 1 last year that quarterback Terrelle Pryor and wide receiver DeVier Posey had sold/bartered merchandise to the owner of a Columbus tattoo parlor. According to the school, he kept the information to himself — with the inexplicable exception of sharing the 411 with Pryor’s long-time handler — until an OSU official stumbled upon the emails this past January during an unrelated search.

At least, Gee, Smith and the entire athletic program had better hope that Nicklaus’ theory is nothing more than the result of black helicopters hovering over his head. If Nicklaus’ theory were proven correct and Smith or Gee or anyone else knew of potential violations before January and did not forward that information on to the NCAA, the fallout for the football program would be devastating. As would sanctions handed down by the NCAA on the football program.

That said, we find it very hard to believe that Gee or Smith or anyone in a position of authority knew what Tressel knew and did what The Vest did by sitting on the information.

Hopefully I will be sometime after midnight....another late night!

Solar,

You aren't the only person I've seen use a Yates-Harris comparative. (And its a good one, mind you)

But Yates appeared to have mentally matured from one year to the next. I ain't so sure about Jacory. Yates appeared to finally have learned to play within himself. I still think that Slim thinks that he's some kind of QB that he's not. What say you, on that aspect of it?

Canestruck

Why sadly? Kid was a 1st time offender. Non violent crime. What is the problem with a 2nd chance. There is punishment guidelines he has to follow. I do not see where he was let "off the hook". Lighten up on good kids.

canechic

Canestruck I am fine with the way he was handled by the justice system, my problem is that as a player and a student of the University of Miami, you are held to a higher standard. No way as a Senior he should be reinstated with no suspensions or even some form of punishment from the school. Sets a very, very bad example to the other players and students.

I am very happy with their effort following a blowout at home and the win.

However, I'm angry Kunitz threw that elbow and he deserves a suspension. Downie deserves one as well for leaving his feet on Lovejoy.

Hope they both miss at least a game. There's no place for that, imo.

LOL DOwnie did not even get a penalty because Mad Max scored a goal and Lovejoy is a tough kid

Posted by: canechic | April 19, 2011 at 09:37 AM

I do recall that there were additional punishments placed on him, but that Golden keeps the punishments private.

I bet the other players are aware of what the punishment was, and I hope it wasn't just "running steps" like some schools do.

The cops were fine with it, then I am fine with it. If either cop felt he deserved to sweat it out more, they could have spoken up and gotten it to trial.

If a Nole or Gator had done this, it would have been one of many, so we wouldn't have been up in arms. Three Gators just got caught breaking into cars this week, and barely a peep here.

VA Cane, I remember the lesson you taught your son. It helped him in his future. This taught Buchanan a lesson, too. And just like with your son getting a second chance, he is getting his second chance.

solar, castration? I don't even wish that on Noles and Gators.

Something has to be reserved for Notre Dame players!

solarcane

hurri,
To begin I must say I like Jacory. I think he is a class guy.

I think early on he believed everyone's prediction that he was going to be the next great U qb, and didn't didn't need two years behind someone to learn to play well.

By not sitting on the bench for two seasons and learning, he was short changed on his apprenticeship. He makes the same mistakes in the same situations continually.

When he gets to the opponents 20 yard line I think he gets buck fever and starts forcing, even when there is no pressure.

I also believe Nix wasn't a competent quarterback coach, and I think Whipple was too busy concentrating on his agenda with Shannon to bother mentoring Jacory. So Jacory had three seasons of basically do it yourself on the job training.

My bottom line on Jacory is he will play well from his goal line to the opponents 20 and then tighten up and short arm the ball, or never see the pass defender.

Morris has the luxury of dumping the ball off to great backs and good tight ends, until he can truly lead, just like Kenny did until Dorsey gained enough confidence to step on opponents necks in big games.
