Which reminds me of a joke... that I just made up.

(I figure "that's what she said" has already been taken.)

solar was off on his usual relaxing day in retirement, fishing, when he gets a big one. He reels it in, fighting every step of the way, but once it is on shore, he turns and bolts to the house, and drags his wife into the bedroom.

It seems he heard women like a guy that runs after the catch!

Happy Anniversary a day late.

Behind the Facemask: Thomas Finnie

"If I wasn't playing football, I would still be in college trying to get a degree. I'm studying business. After football, I want to own my own properties or business.

The best advice I ever received is whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. My father always told me that. That keeps me motivated.

If I could wake up anywhere in the world tomorrow, it would probably be Hawai`i. I've never been there.

I secretly wish I could wake up 20 years from now and be retired, in a big mansion.

The U is gonna have its swag back this year.

Coach Williams is a funny guy. We're gonna have a fun season. From the teaching, to the classroom, to the field, I try to stay serious but in my head, I can't help but laugh sometimes. He's funny. I've learned so much from him.

College football is more serious, there are people's jobs on the line. Basically whatever they tell you is the exact way they want you do it. They expect you to do it their way.

It was hard to transition into college football. But it doesn't matter if I like it or not, I have to do it regardless. I'm second on the depth chart now, right under a fifth-year senior, so that's not bad. I'm still working though, it's not too late to be back on first team.

Something I've never understood has to be calculus and math.

I'm in the real world now, and there's no running back to mommy and daddy anymore. I loved that I stay close to home though, because I still have my parents when I need them.

My mom's food just keeps calling me back, it makes me want to come home every weekend. Her ham, fried rice, rib tips and string beans are my favorite.

Nobody knows that I can play tennis. I played in middle school.

I really want to be the one to bring my family up to par; I want to be the one who makes it out. I want to make my mother so proud, and that's what I really want to do. I never quit, I never want to give up, because I really want to try to get there."

I agree they were a small group of thugs from the suburbs most of them not real fans but some people with bad intentions no matter what was the outcome of game 7th. It's hard to believe that the police forces were not better prepared. As for the Bruins i wanted them to win over Vancouver simply because i like players like Bergeron, Tim Thomas, Brad Marchand and Mark Recchi. As for Vancouver it's funny how some European players do not show up in crucial games. As for Lebrongo he has always had ups and downs since he joined the NHL. IT's fun to see that you know much about different sports. Have a great WE.

More trouble for UNC football - http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Documents-peg-Tar-Heels-for-13K-in-traffic-fine;_ylt=ApatqD9wLtaSVKcZbLOojyscvrYF?urn=ncaaf-wp2697

"Last year, two numbers loomed large in the NCAA's ongoing, multipronged investigation of improper benefits, academic fraud and agent connections at North Carolina: 14, the number of Carolina players who missed at least one game under scrutiny for possible violations, and 7, the number of Tar Heels who missed the entire season — three of whom went on to become first or second-round picks in April's NFL Draft.

Today, there are two more numbers in connection to the probe: 395, the number of parking citations racked up by a group of up to eleven UNC players from March 2007 to August 2010, and $13,185, the amount those players owed — or possibly still owe — as a result:

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—North Carolina has released documents showing a group of Tar Heel football players accumulated more than $13,000 in parking citations over a 3 1/2-year period.

The school released the documents Thursday, a day after the state Court of Appeals denied the school's request to delay the release of those records pending an appeal. A Wake County Superior Court judge had ruled in April that the school withheld documents it should have provided to requesting media outlets covering the NCAA investigation into the football program.

The university said in a statement that not all of the 11 players requested by the media had received tickets. The university says student-athletes "do not receive special treatment" and "are expected" to pay parking fines like any student, though it didn't say whether fines were paid.

One of the papers that went after the records, the News & Observer, said it requested information last year on Tar Heels Charles Brown, Kendric Burney, Bruce Carter, Ryan Houston, Dwight Jones, Donte Paige-Moss, Robert Quinn, Kevin Reddick, Greg Little, Johnny White and Deunta Williams. Even discounting that not everyone in that group was fined, $13,185 among eleven players amounts to just shy of $1,200 per player, or a little less than $400 per player over the three-and-a-half-year period in question. Cliff Harris probably thinks that's chump change (and I'm certainly not daring anyone to go snooping around my old college parking records, either), but that is a large sum in fines, especially for allegedly broke college kids. Hey, maybe that's why Burney, Little, Quinn and Williams — all cited by the NCAA for accepting well over $1,000 apiece in improper benefits from an agent — needed the money in the first place.

As deep as the parking-related scandal could conceivably take us down the wormhole, the real damage from today's document dump where Carolina's ongoing dance with the NCAA is concerned is from the other half, which includes hundreds of pages of phone records from head coach Butch Davis, athletic Dick Baddour and (most importantly) ex-defensive line coach John Blake. Before he was forced out last September, Blake was reportedly at the center of the NCAA's investigation for his longstanding relationship with NFL agent Gary Wichard, who himself was stripped of his license by the NFL Players Association last December before succumbing to cancer earlier this year. Star defensive tackle Marvin Austin's suspension stemmed at least in part from (among many other things) a trip he took to California to work out in Wichard's gym in August 2009, a trip allegedly paid for by one of Austin's old UNC teammates, fellow defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer, a Wichard client. Blake may have also been ratted out to the NCAA by defensive end Marcell Dareus, a friend of Austin's who allegedly got a pending four-game suspension to start last season knocked down to two games by telling investigators Blake had tried to steer him to Wichard in a phone call.

It's no wonder that Butch Davis admitted last October that he regretted ever hiring Blake, a longtime colleague who once played for Davis at Sand Springs High in Oklahoma and later won a Super Bowl with Davis when both were assistants with the Dallas Cowboys in the early nineties. And he may soon regret it more, if anything in the stacks of papers currently being rifled through by reporters turns up a stronger connection between Blake and Wichard and/or implicates that other Carolina coaches knew (or should have known) about players' relationship with agents. If UNC is eventually charged with employing an assistant coach who effectively acted as a runner for an NFL agent, a bunch of traffic tickets will look like, well, a bunch of traffic tickets."

J12 looks taller and almost as cut as OchoEgo in that twit pic. Add in the fact he's already had a two new playbook instillation adoptions in his career prior to this third one under Fisch and he might actually be put in a position to maximize his strengths and minimize his exposure in the play calling of his weaknesses. I'm still leaning more toward Truth Miller for O-LOF though right now.

Plantation Hampton Inn gets the OGV seal of approval, even when your freshman backup QB throws three straight INT's in enemy territory in a row after you've held up four fingers on both hands for the entire quarter transition between 3rd and 4th.

We used to have tournaments all day and all night long, would skip class, it would get nuts

I didn't know what the hell a blue line was, a red line, icing, offsides, line changes, any of that crap until I played that video game, haha

It was awesome and addicting. '94 was even better

You used to be able to fight .. you used to be able to hit someone and make blood come out of their head onto the ice .. I forgot which one it was, maybe '94, but one-timers were the easiest goals to score with b/c it seemed like the goalies would move in slooww motionn

I went onto EBay and bought a Sega Genesis and found some of those old EA Sports Hockey games at a pawn shop near me

.........................................

Thanks Solar i just feel the same! You are just a class act. Let's go Canes!!!

WindyCane-Forcast1

Good to see so many Canes (6) getting recognized as all-ACC in the preseason. Just a couple of years ago, we only had a punter recognized in the preseason.

From watching the Spring, I would agree. Brandon Washington is a beast - he is big, athletic and mean. Ray Ray looked like the best safety I have seen in a uniform since Kenny Phillips. Fortson was very impressive before he got injured.

I have never really liked Storm and I am glad he left. Storm was good, but it would be an absolute injustice to play Storm more than Mike James or Lamar. It is not even close.

With the most massive and athletic offensive line that I have seen the Canes field, I wouldn't be surprised to see a two-back-rotation offense with a heavy dose of running the ball 60%+ and some play action mixed in - similar to Alabama or Wisconsin. A strong defense, solid special teams, big plays, cutting down mistakes, good conditioning and superior athletes will impress a lot of people this year.

I love football teams that execute a few plays very well, then mix in a surpise wrinkle every now and then to keep the defense off balance. I think that will be our Canes, and they will surprise some people this year and win their first ACC title under Golden's first season

Montreal-Cane

Rays keep Marlins floundering Final Rays win 5-1.

We are here for fun, to get good informations on the Canes, to share points of views and respect people with different opinions unless they are not on our team.

Hasta la vista...

solarcane

monte,
Soup knows, I know he knows, I know,, neither of us take offense when we unload on each other if we think it's for the good of the Space.
And you should know after all these years how much I appreciate the time you spend here and the stuff you bring.
We are all Canes Family

orange 'n green in the vein

SOUP, I don't care what the haters say about #12, if he puts on a solid 25 lbs of muscle in one off-season he's going to have enough mass to finally drive the ball deep the way he needed to under the Whipple scheme every third throw or so, no more of that floater garbage, he'll have a ton of experience to draw on and great pieces to do damage with surrounding him, he might, just might, make a run at Dorsey's career numbers after all.

Now Fisch had a decent, not great, QB at Minny a few years ago in Weber that has nice things to say about him now but watching them play at the time left me wondering WTF he was thinking in the booth mostly. He's come out and said he tried to install too much too soon after the fact, hopefully he puts the baby bear serving of the playbook in place (not too hot, not too cold, just right) and keeps the check downs simple because we know Jacory isn't afraid to throw it deep even against his best judgement so having something he can easily grasp and trust to get himself out of trouble against competent secondary coverage is the key to maximizing what he does well this year.

solarcane

hopefully he puts the baby bear serving of the playbook in place (not too hot, not too cold, just right)

I wish J12 would get his ass in front of the film projector more; believe that's an opportunity for both him and SM. Both these guys can wing it, I just think they both need to be smarter upstairs. Make good decisions - ALL the time, not most of the time.

Remember thinking the same about Fisch - hope the guy doesn't go "gruden" on the QBs too much (XJ wide jet slant red post dog flash - on two!)

What If Jacory just wore one of those Electric shock dog collars and every time he looks way down field on a slant pass
Fisch toggles a remote hidden in his pocket?

Monte - I'm with you; I was rooting for the Canucks to beat Boston, although I thought in the end the Bruins had more energy and seemed to want it more over the length of the series.

You need to dig up the Sporting News from a few months ago - they did the all-time best teams in each sport, pretty good stuff on the 'Habs.

I wanted Vancouver to win because it would've meant so much more to Canada than the U.S. (outside of Beantown that is).

Same reason I was thrilled when Canada won the gold in the Olympics - I mean the whole damn country was beside itself. Pretty cool to see.

BTW, shame on those Vancouver hooligans, and just as bad, all those losers who stood with their frikin' cell phones and captured the moment. BS all the way around.

Jacory with his shock collar and Oakland Raiders coulotte / overall / bib outfit.

I can see it now.

Storm Johnson is in UCF as of today

solarcane

The 6-foot-1, 217-pound running back chose UCF Friday after visiting the Orlando campus. He had also visited USF prior to his Orlando trip.

"Yes sir, Storm committed today and he will start classes on the 22nd," Wesley Johnson, Storm's father, confirmed via cell phone Friday night. "It actually feels quite good just to get the pressure off and be able to resume his college career. He starts off with a clean slate. Coach [George] O'Leary met with us today and coach felt good about [Storm] and Storm felt good about being there."

Alph now is a dead period for us sports fans...No college ball, no NFL, no NHL, no NBA...Just MLB and watching the Fish sinking...Time to watch ESPN classics.

BFeldmanESPN Bruce Feldman
Ex-Miami RB Storm Johnson is transferring to UCF, his dad confirmed to ESPN. The 216-pound RB has to sit out the 2011 season.

So just so I understand, the guy who compared Golden to a slave owner now has his son playing for a guy who once ran a football player until he fell over dead at practice and he's saying he FEELS QUITE GOOD about the whole thing now?

Just another example of impeccable Georgia logic at its finest!

welcome to my world

I am staying in Ft. Myers for two weeks starting next week and I was wondering if anyone on here knows of some good places to see alligators or crocodiles in the wild. I am looking to see them in a "safe" environment like a wildlife tour or something similar. Looking for a family friendly place as well. GO CANES....

OGV I said the same thing O' leary is an old school "slave" driver (of course no pun intended). Que Alanis Morissete!

I am with you both J12 and Morriss are way too loose to by great QB's.

Soup has heard my description of J12 and he is not a bad kid at all, just not very serious.

Sadly I do think he is the better of th two. Maybe they can rotate....oh Hell didn't we already try that?

Up north cane I watch the Casey Anthony trial as much as I can for trial aspects not so much the content. The girl is guilty and the only reason she even has a trial is because she is a white girl. She has slept with just about everyone, her attorney, cops during the investigation she is crazy! If she was a black or Hispanic girl she would have already had reached a deal through plea bargain and be in prison for at least 20 years by now. Those girls would never have been able to get proper defense because their case was not high profile and nothing to gain by the defense. Baez is a sleaze. I am normally a defense minded gal but this girl is guilty but sadly she may get off.

I agree that the QB play could decide the season. I am somewhat concerned. I watched the spring games and did not see any of the QBs distinguish himself. Fortunately, the Canes start with a schedule that should allow them to start 4-0.

The key will be whether Fisch and Golden are willing to tolerate mistakes from their starting QB in the first four games when they are favored, even when they win or win convincingly. Again, I believe the Canes will (and should be) a dominant run-first offense, win the turnover battle, make 5-6 big plays, execute and play great defense. With that game plan, the Canes QBs should not have more than 2 Ints in those first 4 games, or there might be a concern going on the road games in the coastal division.

After the first 4 games, the Canes have back-to-back road games at Va Tech and UNC. Although the Canes are more talented at most positions, these two consecutive road games could be won or lost based on turnovers and mistakes (or the lack thereof) at their QB position. Two years ago, Jacory threw 4 ints at UNC and lost that game. At Va Tech, Jacory failed to see the blitzers and was confused by Bud Foster's defense, and the Canes lost in Blacksburg. This all happened in route to his 17 Int season, which Jacory labeled a success. Then, Jacory returned the following season more interested in emulating a comedian than an elite college QB.

I am not concerned about the Canes at the other positions (RB, OL, even TE), because they are much stronger at each position than they were two years ago. I believe the other positions are more than capable of performing at a much higher level in tough road games.

The QB situation, however, is not better at this point. That is the weak link that could break the chain and it must be worked out before those two consecutive road games, or the season will go from being a dominant season to a struggle to win the Coastal and make the ACC Championship game.

Elliott, im not sure what part of Ft. Myers you are staying youre best bet could be to stop by a hotel, unless youre already going to be in one of course and pick up a copy of Southwest Florida guide map, its a free booklet. It has quite a few of thosd type places you are looking for. The booklet also has coupons in it for all those places.

Papa Cane - Just read an email Coach Golden sent to his players. Shows how UM had more players drafted than all other BCS Bowl team yet disappointed.

He wants his players to focus on what they can control. Penalties, decision making, discipline. UM could win big next year. We all know it.

Coach Golden is incredibly dedicated to players and wants them to see the light. We have the best OL in the State and enough D to win

Solar...I appreciate the good advice from a wise man. Thanks for keeping me grounded.

My comment was not an attack on Monty, it was a repsonse to his comment. I didn't mean it to come across that way if it did.

No harm was intended, no foul was committed.

CANE FAMILY!

That might just work! Have you forwarded that idea to Golden yet? LOL

Elliot...if you go over the bridge ($5 TOLL) to Sanibel Island there is a wildlife refuge called (I'm NOT making this up):

J. N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. I've been a few times and seen alligators there every time.

In case U missed Al Golden's interview on Irvin's show... GREAT QUOTE...

Snippet - "I'm most excited that as we go to lunch at about 11:30 at our camp last Saturday, then we come back 2 hours later, and as we started that walk back, there's 85 Miami Hurricanes on a Saturday, lined up and waiting for us to get the heck off the field."

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT!!
