In addition to winning five national championships over a thirty year span between 1983 and 2003, the University of Miami has had its share of national college football award winners over the past three decades.
In fact, the Hurricanes have had a total of 20 national award winners, with all of those awards coming in a 16 year period between 1986 and 2002.
Here is a list of those national awards and the UM player and year they were honored:
Heisman Trophy: The most prestigious award in college football, the Heisman Trophy is presented annually to the nation's top player. Over the years Hurricane players have made a habit of being invited to the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City as finalists. A Miami player has finished among the top 10 thirteen times, including two winners.
UM Heisman Trophy winners: Vinny Testaverde 1986 and Gino Torretta 1992
Lombardi Award: The Rotary Lombardi Award goes annually to the college football lineman -- offense or defense -- who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi. Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen and those defenders who line up within five yards of the football.
UM Lombardi Award winners: Warren Sapp 1995
Outland Trophy: First presented in 1946 and named for John Outland, an All-American tackle at the University of Pennsylvania in 1897, the Outland Trophy is presented by the Football Writers' Association of America to the nation's outstanding collegiate interior lineman.
UM Outland Trophy winners: Russell Maryland 1990 and Bryant McKinnie 2001
Rimington Trophy: The Dave Rimington Trophy is one of college football's newest annual awards, given each year since 1999 to college football's outstanding center. The trophy is named for former Nebraska center Dave Rimington, who was a first-team All-America center in 1981 and 1982 and was the only player to win the Outland Trophy in both seasons as college football's outstanding interior lineman. The winner of the Rimington Trophy is determined by voting for the Associated Press All-America Team.
UM Rimington Trophy Winners: Brett Romberg 2002
Butkus Award: Named after the Chicago Bears Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus, the Butkus Award is the most prestigious award a linebacker in collegiate football can receive. The award was established in 1985 by the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando.
UM Butkus Award winners: Dan Morgan 2000
Jim Thorpe Award: The Jim Thorpe Award for the best defensive back in college football was created in 1986. The award was immediately accepted as one of the nation's top collegiate sports honors. Winners are judged on their performance on the field, athletic ability and character.
UM Thorpe Award winners: Bennie Blades 1987
Davey O'Brien Award: Founded in 1977 by members of the Fort Worth Club, the Davey O'Brien Memorial Award honored annually the outstanding college football player in the five Southwest states of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and New Mexico. In 1981, the area was expanded from the five Southwestern states to the entire nation. The Trustees further agreed to restrict the selection to a quarterback, the primary position of the award's namesake.
UM O'Brien Award winners: Vinny Testaverde 1986 and Gino Toretta 1992
Johnny Unitas Award: Established in 1987, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation presents the award to the best senior college quarterback in the country. An 18-year veteran of the NFL, Unitas played his collegiate career at the University of Louisville (1951-54), passing for 3,007 yards and 27 touchdowns.
UM Unitas Award winners: Craig Erickson 1990 and Gino Toretta 1992
Maxwell Award: Each year the Maxwell Football Club presents the Maxwell Award for the College Player of the Year. This award is presented in honor of Robert W. (Tiny) Maxwell, legendary college player, official and sports columnist.
UM Maxwell Award winners: Vinny Testaverde 1986, Gino Toretta 1992 and Ken Dorsey 2001
Bronko Nagurski Award: The Bronko Nagurski trophy is awarded to the best defensive player in college football and is presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The award was established to compliment the Heisman Trophy Award which is rarely presented to a defensive player. Created in 1993 by the Football Writers Association of America, the award honors the memory of former University of Minnesota All-American Bronko Nagurski.
UM Nagurski Award winners: Warren Sapp 1994 and Dan Morgan 2000
Bednarik Award: The College Defensive Player of the Year Award is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, College and Pro Football Hall of Famer.
UM Bednarik Award winners: Dan Morgan 2000
Walter Camp Award: The Walter Camp Award goes to the nation's most outstanding college football player. While no single person can claim credit for the innovation of football, no one contributed more to the game's development than Walter Camp. Through Camp's many innovations, football changed from a rugby-like game into a unique sport. Camp was one of the first football coaches and was considered the game's authority.
UM Camp Award winners: Vinny Testaverde 1986 and Gino Toretta 1992
John Mackey Award:The John Mackey Award, established in 2001, is awarded annually to the most outstanding tight end in FBS college football. In addition to demonstrating outstanding athletic prowess on the field, the award also stands for positive sportsmanship-like behavior, good academic standing and exceptional leadership abilities.
UM Mackey Award winners: Kellen Winslow 2003
Surprisingly, a University of Miami player has never won the Ted Hendricks Award (defensive ends) named after the great former UM player and All-American.
In addition, no Miami Hurricane has won the Fred Biletnikoff Award (wide receivers), the Lou Groza Award (kickers) or the Ray Guy Award (punters).
Yeah!

Behind the Facemask: Jermaine Barton
"My favorite thing about being part of the U Family is just being part of the team. We are all friends. Getting to work out together, everything about it.
At the U, I’ve learned so much from Coach Stoutland and Coach Golden. Coach Stoutland taught me you have to be hungry if you want to be successful. He used to say, “hungry dogs run faster,” so that’s what I try to do. Coach Golden has taught me you have to be dedicated. You can’t be half in, half out. If you do, you’ll get half results.
My favorite midnight snack is pizza. Usually double cheese.
I’m a Hurricane because I want to be the best.
One thing that everyone should know about Miami football is it’s more of a family than anything.
Other than football, I’m talented at basketball. I usually play power forward or small forward, but I can kind of play all five positions. I like to think I can handle the ball. I got offers for basketball, but got bigger offers for football. I’ve been playing basketball since I was in eighth grade. I started playing football in 10th grade. I’ve always played offensive line.
The song no one would believe I have on my iPod is “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. Another one is “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.
No one can believe I like to play chess. I’ve been playing since I was eight or nine years old. My cousin got me started. I still play now when I can, but no one ever really wants to play. I taught Darion Hall how to play.
People might be surprised to know that I still play basketball. I play every weekend whenever I can at the Wellness Center. I really like it, I sort of wish I still played.
If I could spend a day with anyone, it would be my mother. I spend days with her all the time, but would still say her. She was never really into sports, but my older brother was. She just let him and I do what we wanted. Once we started getting recruited, she got into it. She likes the Heat and I like the Lakers, so we talk smack all the time. She watches SportsCenter all the time now.
I'm the youngest of eight kids. I have one older brother and I have six sisters too.
The most influential person in my life, other than my mom, is George Smith, my head football coach in high school. I was a really bad kid coming into high school, and he kept giving me chances and always tried to get me right. He got me involved in football. I went to St. Thomas Aquinas for football, but I didn’t ever want to play, I just wanted to play basketball. He signed me up for football but I never went to practice, I would only go to the games and sit on the sidelines. Sophomore year, he got me to play. I played JV that year, and he took me under his wing from there.
When I was six years old, my sister and I used to watch the “The Land Before Time”, the dinosaur movies. I remember we watched one where they’re trying to find the last leaf to eat, so I went outside and I ate a leaf. I thought it tasted horrible. I realized you can’t believe everything you see on television (laughs).
Football has given me standards to live by and values in life. Being on time, dressing appropriately, and being properly prepared.
Coach Kehoe is a character. Period. That’s all I’m saying (laughs).
I never thought I’d be at the University of Miami playing football. I thought I’d be playing basketball somewhere. Growing up, I always wanted to be a Gator. But I took a visit there and really didn’t like it. My brother went to Florida State, and I lived with him when he was in college for about a year or so. I didn’t really like it either.
I was raised in Coral Springs, 30 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale. I was raised by my mom to be respectful to adults, to be nice to girls, and to respect other people, and to always give my best work. I was also raised on Jamaican food.
My favorite song right now is “I Cook” by Lil B. I don’t think he’s a good rapper at all. I just really like the beat. This guy might be the worst rapper I’ve ever heard (laughs).
If I was a superhero, my power would definitely be to transport or teleport places.
Protecting the quarterback is the most important thing in the game of football. Offensive line is the most important position. You could have the best quarterback, the best running backs, but if you have the defense in your face the whole game, it really doesn’t make a difference."

No wonder........I'm sure there is no bias againt Andre Johnson or Reggie Wayne by the TQC
The Fred Biletnikoff Award has been presented since 1994 to America's top college football receiver by the TQC Foundation, Inc. (The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc.), an independent not-for-profit organization which created the award in 1994 and has sponsored it since. It is named in honor of Fred Biletnikoff, who starred at Tech Memorial High School in Erie, Pennsylvania, then Florida State University before going on to a Hall of Fame career with the Oakland Raiders.

> ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. recently tabbed UM safety Ray Ray Armstrong as the nation’s top junior safety. Other Canes Kiper listed as potential high draft picks in 2012: Sean Spence is the fifth-best senior outside linebacker; Marcus Forston is the second-best junior defensive tackle; Brandon Washington is the third-best junior offensive guard; Vaughn Telemaque is the fifth-best junior safety."

Mel speaks truth to power concerning Ray Ray. Matter of fact, Melvin has A-L-W-A-Y-S given beacoup respect to the Miami football program ( Get the fUc! outta' here, U's limp-wristed wanna' be Hurricane fan. ). Perhaps too mUch respect lately.
Heck, that surburban good ol' boy bubba out in Tampa/St. Pete's can't touch The Kyper when it comes to major college football punditry.
I gUess Melvin understands how to keep a tight rein on the NEGATIVITY thing. aU contraire to that " I played the game " minion. Eh.
Maybe that's why The Kyper is such an expert on college football matters. He don't have to do the ' on the warpath dance and what not. ' LOL Like the U-know-who out in the Gulf coast bay.
Yeah, yeah Mr. Kyper can be critical and is critical of college football issues, from time to time. However, he has a CIVIL PANACHE of going about it. Something that " I played the game " character sorely lacks.
Who knows. It's probably a RIGHT-WING DOMINEERING qUasi-FACSIST mentality thang. U-all know. The PRIMITIVE need to go negative on both Miami football and hardball.

Miami Hurricanes coach Al Golden praised for aggressive recruiting .BY BARRY JACKSON
bjackson@MiamiHerald.com
All recruiting today:
UM football coach Al Golden said the approach this year “is like Noah’s ark. We would like to take a pair or more at each position other than the kicking game.” He’s more than two-thirds of the way there, with 22 oral commitments and is ranked ninth by ESPN.
Though Randy Shannon signed good local prospects, several area coaches say Golden is more aggressive. “You want to talk about a night-and-day difference,” said Miami Columbus coach Chris Merritt, whose highly regarded safety Deon Bush is considering UM. “There’s a lot more communication and texts now. Miami didn’t recruit any of our kids under Shannon.”
Miami Belen coach Richard Stuart said he had more contact with Golden in four months than in four years with Shannon.
“We see them more. This staff shows [its] face at your school even if you don’t have a great prospect,” said Hialeah coach Marc Berman, intending no criticism of Shannon. Central coach Telly Lockett, who said Shannon ignored his program, noted this UM staff “is taking care of their backyard more. I talk to coach Golden a lot.”
Norland coach Daryle Heidelberg — who had two class of 2012 players orally commit to UM before Shannon’s firing and one more since — said one difference “is more UM coaches are involved in recruiting now. Different coaches call the players. That keeps it fresh.”
The former staff “had four coaches doing South Florida,” Golden said. “We have nine.” Of UM’s 22 oral commitments, 18 are from Florida and 12 from South Florida. “We want to be 80 percent Florida,” he said.
Several players committed after attending Golden’s camps, which have been more frequent and less expensive than Shannon’s. A quick look at UM’s oral commitments, by position:
• Quarterbacks (3 oral commitments): Texas-based Preston Dewey, rated ninth at his position and 148th overall by ESPN, “is a precision passer, has a real good arm and is more advanced than many others because he’s being coached by Ty Detmer,” recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. … Clearwater’s Gray Crow “isn’t very consistent,” recruiting analyst Larry Blustein said. Crow received no other Football Bowl Subdivision offers, but UM people love his moxie and work ethic. … Lemming said Miami Westminster Christian’s David Thompson, who many expect will opt for pro baseball instead, has the most upside of the three “and has an All-American career ahead if he sticks with football.” He was invited to the U.S. Marines All-American Game Jan. 3 in Phoenix.
• Running backs (1): Miami Norland’s Duke Johnson — rated 50th among all prospects by ESPN and 145th by Rivals — “is the best running back in the state, a Lamar Miller-type talent,” Blustein said. … Georgia’s Wes Brown (Rivals’ No. 21 back) told canesport.com that UM is his front-runner.
• Receivers (4): UM loves the speed of Palm Beach Central’s Angelo Jean-Louis (who is rated by ESPN as Miami’s best prospect, 48th overall) and Homestead’s Herb Waters, who committed Sunday and was compared to a young Andre Johnson by his high school coach. “Jean-Louis is a difference maker; Waters will be a go-to receiver,” Blustein said. … Georgia-based Jontavious Carter has played only one season but caught seven touchdowns and “the big thing is his run-after-the-catch ability,” Lemming said. ... Leesburg’s D’Mauri Jones has size (6-4) and sure hands. Twelve of his 40 catches in 2010 were touchdowns.

• Tight ends (1): Tallahassee’s 6-6 Brandon Holifield, who finished third in the state in the high jump, had not played football since middle school before the spring. “He looks like a potential Jimmy Graham type,” Blustein said. FAU, Gardner-Webb and Samford were his only other offers, and Holifield is among a few players Miami might have been able to get with later offers. But Golden “is a gifted evaluator,” Lemming said, adding UM’s sleepers “are all superior athletes.”
• Offensive linemen (1): Blustein called Norland’s Ereck Flowers “a big-time tackle,” but the key here will be UM’s ability to lure one or more from among Weston Cypress Bay guard Daniel Isadora and tackles Patrick Miller (Palm Beach Dwyer) and Avery Young (Palm Beach Gardens).
• Linebackers (5): “This is an exceptional group,” Blustein said. Norland’s Keith Brown, UM’s first oral commitment, “is one of the country’s fastest linebackers,” Lemming said. Georgia-based Raphael Kirby (the highest-rated of the five — No. 126 overall by Rivals) had 121 tackles, and Lemming said his stock has skyrocketed….
Jacksonville’s Reggie Northrup is a skilled run-stopper who has been compared with ex-Cane Darryl Sharpton; Lemming predicts he will be a prep All-American. Blustein considers Homestead’s James Burgess Jr. (who committed Sunday) and Cypress Bay’s Josh Witt to be every-down linebackers.
• Defensive ends (4): Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas’ Jelani Hamilton (rated by Rivals as UM’s best prospect, 79th overall), “is one of the best defensive ends in the country,” Lemming said. “[Former coach] George Smith told me he’s one of the best he ever had. Explosive first step, but he has to put on more weight.” As Blustein said, “every big game St. Thomas had, he came up big. With Jelani and [incoming end] Anthony Chickillo, that could be an awesome combination.”…. Lakeland’s Trent Taylor had 15 sacks in 2010 and is one of eight UM oral commits who had an offer from the Gators. …
Vero Beach’s Dwayne Hoilett (64th) received 20 offers the past three months, many from BCS schools. “He can be dominating, but when matched up against good size, he struggles,” Blustein said. … Pennsylvania’s 6-5 Jake O’Donnell (83rd) “needs to do better creating separation and press blockers off him,” ESPNU said. … UM also is a prime contender for St. Thomas Aquinas end Bryan Cox Jr. and is battling FSU for Tampa tackle Earl Moore.
• Cornerbacks (3): South Miami’s A.J. Leggett, ranked 104th by Rivals, is “a ballhawk,” Blustein said. “But he’s been at five schools, including South Miami twice, and you wonder how that can happen.”… Miami Coral Reef’s Vernon Davis “is as quick reacting to the ball as I’ve ever seen,” Blustein said. Davis and fellow commit Larry Hope (Hialeah American) didn’t generate great interest last season, but impressed UM and others during offseason camps and combines. Miami is in the mix for Bush (“he likes UM quite a bit,” Merritt said) and elite Miramar cornerback Tracy Howard.
• Among elite players, nobody has outdone Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, who has four of the top 53 and the top two who have orally committed on Rivals’ list: defensive ends Mario Edwards (No. 2) and Dante Fowler (11).
• UF coach Will Muschamp has excelled, with nine oral commitments among Rivals’ top 250 — led by Boynton Beach offensive tackle. … UM has five in Rivals’ and ESPN’s top 150. … Rivals lists one oral commit for FIU: quarterback E.J. Hilliard, who backed up Teddy Bridgewater at Miami Northwestern.
• Rivals lists six South Florida-based players in its top 100: Howard (25), Young (38), Pompano Beach Blanche Ely receiver Avery Johnson (43; a soft LSU oral commitment); Dunker (49); Bush (65) and UM-bound Hamilton (79). Blustein said the top local quarterback is Miami Dade Christian’s Bilal Marshall, who is considering Duke, Wake Forest, Kansas and Purdue.

IGN: 8.5/10, one of the few 'decimal' based reviewers so far. 'NCAA 11 special edition' basically.
Game Informer: 9/10. Changes harder to notice year after year.
Digital Chump: 9/10, lauds the improved collision detection in tackling, blocking. Acts more of a rebuttal to IGN and Game Informer re: it being an incremental update.
Just in case anyone is on the buying fence. Economy has dictated my inability to enjoy it. Any thoughts from those who have it?

ALL THE DOUBTERS READ UP:

You would not believe the lengths I had to go through to prove I lived in the Lake Brantley school district, when Nick and Nicole first started....they just chose not to check.

Once u select download roster, click download roster again and type my ID in which is Onnyx02, or if we're already friends on there, just select my name from the list.
Got all canes names, except a couple. No idea who these guys are. and got Pryor as a punter since I can't remove him from the team lmao. May do the same to Storm Johnson.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | July 13, 2011 at 01:03 AM
How many different "local" coaches basically in the backyard of the Canes talked about how the former staff basically ignored them?
One of the many things a few of us have said about Bossman Shannon & his staff - it's not like we're making this stuff up or speculating. It's .. in .. plain .. sight .. black .. and .. white
It's also not hard to be a great DCoordinator when you have a defense like Bossman Shannon had from 2001-2006
1st Rounders - PBuc, Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, Jerome McDougle, William Joseph, Sean Taylor, Johnathan Vilma, DJ Williams, Vince Wilfork, Antrel Rolle, Kelly Jennings, Jon Beason, Brandon Meriweather, Kenny Phillips
That's not including guys drafted in later Rounds, 2nd-5th like Rocky McIntosh (2nd) TGooden (3rd), Andrew Williams (3rd), Baraka Atkins (4th), Kareem Brown (4th), Leon Williams (4th), Orien Harris (4th), Jamaal Green (4th), Matt Walters (5th)
That's not a bad batch of players for a college team - forget about what they've done or haven't done in the NFL
Also, if you noticed during the years Bossman Shannon was running the D - what kind of D did he have and how complicated was it?
4-3 base basically. Just had very good to great kids out there that could take care of business. They didn't do anything outlandish or crazy with their D

Reading local coaches saying they have had more contact is great news. And that ALL the canes coaches are putting time into recruiting, not just four, is an added plus.
Looks like Golden has actually played NCAA 2K11. For those that don't play, the offseason in dynasty mode has a feature where you are allotted hours for recruiting, and use them. I wonder how many hours were "unused" in the old regime.
Sorry, I said I was gonna let it go. Just the talk about 2K12 and how the coaches are actively talking to coaches, players, and parents made me wonder if Shannon ever tried that game and knew that he could risk more hours with recruits.
Shannon was so afraid of sanctions, we did far less than the law allows, and it cost us against less scrupulous in-state teams. You know who they are, the ones that lied to recruits to get them to sign on the dotted line.
Posted by: Ungar | July 13, 2011 at 09:33 AM
But my heavens the Belen coach....sorry guys in my day Belen was the school that rich Hispanic Momma boys attended after they got kicked out of public school. I know things have changed since I graduated high school in 1986.......but nothing screams football less than Belen.
Posted by: canechic | July 13, 2011 at 09:42 AM
canechic, your days are long gone..Belen has been in the state finals or quarterfinals numerous times in the past several years..they beat Booker T in the quarter finals 2 years ago
Posted by: TJL | July 13, 2011 at 09:51 AM
Remember, we had a Belen recruit last year, before he moved on to Georgia Tech.
Belen has moved up to 5A (I beleive), and faces Columbus and coach Merritt every year in a tough matchup. Coach Stuart is named for awards, and the school itself is now a restrictive school in terms of academics as well.
25 years is a long time though. My high school team used to be worthless and would lose to bottom-feeders every year, and now it competes for titles, too. It's also now a magnet school so I am not sure how that has worked out.
Heck, 25 years ago Miami was the top school in the NCAA, too. Alot changes in 25 years. :-(
Posted by: Ungar | July 13, 2011 at 10:21 AM
I guess Shannon was arrogant enough to think, he could get anyone he wanted, without actually going to see them. Go coordinator who had great athletes. Never blitzed and let the likes of no Passing Craig Krentzel & Matt Flynn eat us alive by rushing 4 people and giving them all day to throw. never really tried to put pressure on the QB by blitzing.

Sorry my image of Belen is just totally different but I am glad it has changed.
I went to Miami Christian they stunk at football then and I believe they still stink now. Who knows, I think the last time I was there was 1990!

Even the Dollar Box DVDs are now charging more for "premium" (IE anything that is less than a month old) movies.
By killing off Blockbuster, they are setting up for a monopoly.

ok...I got 2 sets of tickets to 6 games..the Kansas State, Bethune-Cookman, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Duke and Boston College games...section 427, row 15 seats 13 and 14. I checked on StubHub and added the cheapest tickets in that section/row..and the total came to be $186 (without shipping or other fees)...I can sell for $150 w/ shipping...BUT..I just realized this is the no alcohol section, which is fine with me, but maybe not others...if interested, please let me know

Yeah, because Blockbuster didn't become a dinosaur monopoly of it's own by killing off the small business rental houses over the last 20 years in the first place. You want to cry about prices of streaming movies, complain to the six major entertainment companies who want a larger payment for their substandard rehashed plots.

Seriously OGV, nobody has any fresh ideas? We even have a modern footloose coming this summer or fall! Can somebody tell where in the 2011 USA, a city exists that does not allow dancing? I mean I would buy it in Afghanistan but the US? Come on man!!!!

From Heather at ESPN:
Miami running back Lamar Miller rattled off his goals for this season without any hesitation:
•Win every game.
•Rush for more than 100 yards every game.
•Win the ACC championship.
“That’s about it, really,” he said.

Baylor might still have the dancing ban in place canechic, maybe it takes place in Waco? I'd heard the chatter about the Footloose remake for years, but to have a confirmation it was actually made has now ruined my day. I hope it flops and whoever is attached to it never works again above the line. I'm surprised there hasn't been more Gus Van Sant shot by shot remakes like his version of Psycho to date rather than just reboot after reboots personally.
Of course, that would require cannibalization of actually classic films which were good originally to be released, which might ignite a hunger for something as original and ingenious as the source materials in the general public, so then you couldn't get anybody at all to see your remakes of the Footloose's in the future once they've had a taste of something that wasn't tripe and then California would really be screwed next budget even worse than in the last 10, so we couldn't have that at all.

With the amount of movies being pumped out monthly these days, U have to assume they're gonna run out of material. Every movie I've seen recently, with the exception of Inseption, has been old material re-hashed and/or re-done in a different way

Either ESPN is a little more liberal with their stars or Rivals is more hardcore. Was reading on a chat line awhile ago, the guy was saying he felt Crow was reach and that Thompson had more upside than either Crow or Dewey and that he'd end up an all-american. It seems like it was Espn, because Scouts going to make you pay for every little bit of info.

Posted by: UMike | July 13, 2011 at 05:18 PM
mac, Six will tell you it's just business, nothing personal if you let him when it comes to taking it out on the regimes of his displeasure at UM, so you've got to take him at his word on that unless he shows a flaw in his contention's reasoning.
Of course when he says Shannon's defenses featured a bunch of first round talent supplanted by lower picks and kept it simple like it's a detraction from his qualifications for getting a shot at the head coaching job, it's a flaw you can point out in the logic of his just business mantra. That and basically trying to give the coach no credit for players developed under his DC watch who went big time pro and then laying it all on the HC's watch instead of continuing to lay it all on the players when his guys didn't live up to the hype, despite the fact he developed the WR that broke Irvin's college records with suspect QB play the entire time.
Plus he was wrong about the Turd baseball team, they may be the best in the state, but they are also not best in the nation or conference, which we all know for turd fans is the real most important thing to win because like the empty trophy case chokies, when you can't actually win a real title you start puffing up about winning a conference like anybody outside of it will remember in two years time.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | July 13, 2011 at 05:58 PM
So I call the USF ticket office today to find out about tix to the UM game. I asked the nice young lady who answered the phone:
Q: "When are single game tickets going on sale?"
A: "I'm not sure, sometime in August I think."
Q: "How much will the cheapest tix to the Miami game be?"
A: "I'm not sure."
OK, thanks a lot...

NEW MANNY:
Big expectations? Vite said Armstrong, who led Seminole to the Class 6A state title in 2008, will exceed them all.
"It's going to be a great year for him," said Vite, who talks to Armstrong once a month and recently saw him when he returned home the last weekend in May. "He just has to go out there and be Ray and he'll be okay. He's a monster man. I don't know how much bigger he is, but he has more muscle, ripped. He's excited for the season and for the [coaching] changes. He knows its going to be a big year for Miami football."
