This week your Miami Hurricanes face the Kansas State Wildcats at Sun Life Stadium at 3:30 PM in a game that has some very interesting implications.
After a big 18 point win over the Ohio State Buckeyes last week in Al Golden's first of what Miami fans all hope will be many, many home games in Miami for Golden, the Hurricanes may have finally found some much needed confidence in their step on their way back to regaining their infamous swagger.
The win by the Hurricanes knocked the Buckeyes out of the Top 25 and possibly set up a chance for Miami to move into the polls if they can manage another convincing win over the Wildcats this week.
Here is Canespace blogger Christopher Whelpton's analysis of this week's offensive and defensive match-ups for both teams:
As most if not all Hurricane fans know one of the interesting side notes for this week's game is that "The Brothers Brown" will be playing for Kansas State instead of Miami.
Brown The Elder (Arthur) once was the most sought after recruit in the entire Country. He eventually committed to and played for the Hurricanes but for some reason failed to ever break into the starting lineup. After two years in Coral Gables Sir Arthur decided it was time to pack up and head back to his native Kansas.
Brown The Younger (Bryce) was at one time verbally comitted to Miami but then shockingly left the Hurricanes waiting at the alter on National Signing Day as he decided to see what Rocky Top looked like. Apparently it was not long before he decided that the view from the Top was not to his liking and he too high tailed it back to the more familiar surroundings of Kansas.
The UM coaches and players have all been very cautious and politically correct this week to downplay the Brothers Brown and any impact that they or their relationship to Miami will have on this game.
But we think that when the defecation hits the rotary oscillator at Sun Life Stadium this Saturday there will be some payback on the minds of some of the players wearing the orange and green uniforms.
Join us at the game to see the Canes beat the Wildcats this week by the score of: UM 34, KSU 13.

Another example why the NCAA is unfair...The Brown brothers were never suspended...
Both brothers were requested for interviews by The Miami Herald last week and this week, but Kansas State’s sports information office declined, saying the Browns were busy with classes.
Both Brown brothers were implicated by former University of Miami booster Nevin Shapiro in the Yahoo! Sports report that has led to an NCAA investigation and several suspensions. The brothers and their parents and adviser reportedly accepted hotel rooms and a meal from Shapiro in 2008. Arthur allegedly had dinner and a paid trip to a strip club during his freshman season, as well as food and drinks at Shapiro’s mansion.
Bryce his family and adviser received a lunch that cost $532 at Smith & Wollensky in 2008.
Arthur and Bryce were cleared by the NCAA, apparently given immunity for telling all.

This is going to be an ugly game for Kansas State. If anyone thought it was going to be a competitive match, it would be on major network TV. But everyone KNOWS this will be a blow out by the Canes. I think like 45-3, maybe worse.
But it is not true that Arthur Brown has not talked about the game but you had to do alot of internet searching to find it.
http://www.themercury.com/K-StateSports/article.aspx?articleId=01620158970947c0a7963d13cc31e681
If there's one thing everybody can agree on it's that the University of Miami is loaded with talent and speed on both sides of the ball.
But it wasn't all that long ago that Kansas State's Arthur Brown was one of those very players as a promising young linebacker out of Wichita East. I found this at TheMercury.com website.
For a number of reasons, however, Brown's career at Miami never materialized and he decided to come home, back to Kansas, to play for Bill Snyder.
One team's loss was another's gain, though, as the junior has proven to be an asset for the Wildcats' revamped defensive unit, collecting 19 tackles — 2.5 for loss — through the first two games.
Last Saturday, 6-foot-1, 223-pound Brown was a big part of K-State's shutout over Kent State, registering 12 stops in the 37-0 victory and helping the Wildcats to their first shutout since 2006.
"It's been a while since K-State has had a shutout, so it's a great thing to be able to secure one of our goals and produce and be part of that," Brown said.
This week, however, the rejuvenated Brown will take his game back to Miami and hope to make the impact he never did as a Hurricane.
"I'm excited, looking forward to it, being in a familiar environment and being able to see some of the players on the team and compete against some of the players I once played with," said Brown, who had just 17 tackles in two years with the Canes.
Brown's time in Miami was brief, but his time there proved to be significant, along with nearly 70 other former and current Miami athletes who were named in a scathing report that outlined multiple NCAA violations during a span of eight years that took place there.
Though Brown was cleared to play this season and served no suspension, the former blue chip recruit was specifically named by former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, who said he provided Brown — along with his brother and current K-State running back Bryce Brown — with impermissible benefits during his time as a recruit and player.
On Monday, Snyder said he doesn't anticipate the Browns' history with Miami to be a distraction come gameday.
"I know they have friends there and I know at the appropriate time they'll have a chance to interact with their friends," he said. "Arthur and Bryce, I'm quite certain, will be able to manage that and will be well focused on the ballgame, and try not to get distracted, and try to keep the game where it needs to be."
Snyder said it is, however, something he'll take up with both Arthur and Bryce.
"I think you have to address it," he said, 'but you don't have to make a major deal out of it. It's kind of like having an assignment in terms of on-the-field play. That's probably the best way to deal with it, and you just move on."
And when it comes to on-the-field play, Arthur's contributions have been immediately felt by the Wildcats, who enter Saturday's game with the nation's top-ranked defense.
"I love being a part of this defense and part of this team," Arthur said. "But the credit deserves to be spread around because we have a lot of great players out there who are doing their part."
But with Arthur anchoring the middle of the defense — his speed and athleticism on full display — he's already surpassed everything in two games with the Wildcats that he accomplished in two years in Miami.
"With us, having a redshirt year, a year to be able to understand and learn the system — he's matured both mentally and physically," Snyder said. "I think all those things just come with time, as long as you're really into it and care and want to develop yourself, and he wants all that."
While Arthur knows this defense is better than a year ago, he said it's not a finished product yet.
K-State's Week 1 performance was about as good as it could get, though, as the Wildcats held Eastern Kentucky to just 129 total yards, including only 10 rushing yards on 27 attempts. The only blemish was the lone touchdown surrendered after Bryce fumbled and gave Eastern Kentucky a short field for the easy score.
Arthur said this team had a productive bye week and still found ways to improve in the Wildcats' game against Kent State.
"We improved tremendously, from the d-line fulfilling their responsibilities and us as linebackers doing the same," he said. "But to be the team we want to be there's still a lot of areas that need improvement."
That starts Saturday at Miami in what will easily be the biggest test yet for a Wildcats defense that ranked next to last in the Big 12 a year ago.
Snyder said, while Arthur's numbers have been good, his prized linebacker is still one of the Wildcats who have some work to do.
"It's not about the numbers — it's about being where you're supposed to be and playing more aggressively than what he did (Saturday)," Snyder said of Arthur. "It's not that he played bad. I don't think we had anybody defensively who really played poorly. But you expect a lot of our young people and Arthur is certainly at the top of the list when you talk about expectations."
Arthur is well aware of the expectations placed upon him, and agreed with Snyder that he's not yet lived up to his potential — despite leading the Wildcats in tackles so far.
"Discipline is the key for me and the whole defense, as well," he said. "We really need to play our gap assignments and focus on not allowing our eyes to wander. We need to carry out our responsibilities."
One of Arthur's responsibilities is being a leader for K-State, and considering that, nobody knows Miami quite like he does. In fact, Arthur hopes to be the same kind of player he's busy preparing his teammates for this week in Miami.
"They play with a lot of passion and we have to match their intensity," he said. "That's one thing I really saw and gained from being there and what I think I can add and contribute here."

Nice analysis by Christopher Whelpton. Of the 17 points credited to KSU, he says most will come in the end. I disagree with that because that is scrub time, and I think our recent recruits will fair better than theirs. But he makes a good point in giving Bill Snyder his due, so it could happen. But I think a South Florida recruit is better than a higher rated Kansas recruit, and so I think the Canes put the metal to the pedal and really roll in this game.

Temple beating Maryland 21-0. Uhhh... WOW! The Golden blueprint at work
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 24, 2011 at 01:16 PM
Watching UNC and GATech, it's evident that GA Tech is not that impressive on offense. Very sloppy still in the option game, and Tevin Washington throws jump ball after jump ball regardless of if there's any coverage. Their defense has looked strong against the run and short game of UNC, and they're frankly fortunate UNC is equally sloppy passing so far.
Posted by: Felipe | September 24, 2011 at 01:16 PM
if it weren't for GA Tech's defense in this game, as well as the blocked punt in UNC territory, the game would be 7-7. But by controlling for D/ST, I suppose VA Tech would never win a game. That said, 70 points against Kansas looks more like a reflection on them.

What for? If we run the table, nobody will care much about our one loss to Maryland with a third of our starters on suspension. Certainly, to the extent that they DO care, they aren't going to care about Maryland's W-L record.

Sloppy penalties, no blocking or tackling...fundamentals of football. People do not like to hear that...FACTS. Only thing missing is for us to have a TO....hope not. Cmon guys...very poor effort so far. JMO
