If you can find a way to remove some of the tarnish recently acquired by the athletic departments of both of these highly respected institutions of higher education then this game still shines brightly on the big stage that is college football.
This week Canespace blogger Christopher Whelpton, also known as Orange and Green in the Vein (OVGV) on the blog, compares and contrasts a few of the two teams' strengths and weaknesses.
UM coach Al Golden enters the biggest game (so far) of his head coaching career and his first home game as the Hurricanes lead dog. The Miami coaching staff will have to dial up the intensity level for this game against the Buckeyes if the Hurricanes are going to have a chance to win the contest.
Miami lost to OSU last year in Columbus as QB Jacory Harris threw four interceptions and the Hurricanes self destructed in front of the hostile Buckeye crowd in spite of scoring twice on special teams via long returns by Lamar Miller and Travis Benjamin.
Harris returns this week after serving his one game suspension for NCAA violations related to receiving special benefits from some Leprechaun who apparently liked to toss around gold coins when he wasn't picking four leaf clovers.
If J12 can find a way to stay away from the costly turnovers and the 'Canes can limit both penalties and any related mental errors they should win this all important home game against a Top 20 opponent.
I know this for a fact because the lovely and talented Heather Dinich from ESPN told me so.

This is (hopefully) the beginning of the rebirth of the U. Most hate the Canes, and when the players get suspended, they pile it on and keep it going.
When we win today, and show some class, we will be a school feared by most, but winning as Canes with dignity and class.
Or maybe not. I started laughing when I started typing dignity and class, but we can hope.
GO CANE and beat those arrogant Buckeyes, who are almost as arrogant as the Wolverines.

Yes we did not do a good job recruiting Watson, but that is par for the course here...we have not recruited well in a long time...well since the last NC...too many busts...those stars and recruit sites like rivals and such cannot reveal what a guy really is.......I find that you got to really see a kid yourself to find the truth

Look: people keep saying "keys to the game" that are completely out of sync with what THIS team has actually done the last couple of years. So, yeah, avoiding turnovers will be key. But really: when have they DONE that recently? My research indicates they've gone a year and a half without a turnover-free game.
Penalties? Probably just as bad as the turnovers; i didn't have the heart to check.
At a certain point, it's like saying your obese brother (who you love a lot) would win the NY marathon if he can just remember to BE FAST.
Until the U shows me they remember what it's like to be winners, I'm done giving them the benefit of the doubt.

If Texas moves to the ACC, perhaps the conference should be renamed the GACC (Great Atlantic Coast Conference) or better yet the G-ACC (Gulf-Atlantic Coast Conference).
If PITT and SYRACUSE leave the Big East - hot on the heels of TCU joining the Big East - perhaps the conference should be renamed the Big Whatever Conference or better yet the Big Whomever Conference.
