VA - We only had a little to drink (wink wink)...

3G Cane

Feliciano had a solid game at RT last night, he did a good job on running plays driving his man off the line. I thought the OL overall had a good night.

Hurns has put it all together and is a hell of a downfield blocker.

Perryman is going to be a playmaker. Our D gets really tough in the redzone which is what matters most, holding teams to 3 instead of 7 is crucial and will win you games.

Silly penalties that take points off the board prior to halftime must be eliminated and obviously the turnovers need to be stopped. Jacory needs to make quicker reads and decisions, the WR's were open on those plays but he took to long to throw it.

Nice win, good times, cant wait to do it all again next week!

VA Cane...there were some adult beverages consumed before, during and after the game, I will not dispute that.

There were also some really good moments and memories that were made this weekend.

FROM MANNY

UM coach Al Golden told us Jacory Harris "would show us all Saturday night." He sure did. Harris showed us all he's still the same interception prone, soft tossing, queasy-stomach producing quarterback we've seen since the Heisman talk died down two games into the 2009 season...

Clive made a nice move on the TD.....this game, with a few less mistakes, easily could have been at least 38-6...Byrd should have been a TD, as well as Clives.....man it would have been a beatdown for sure...

Still I am glad we won...the kids did a pretty good job, hope J12 will pick it up and be positive

Good win! We needed it. Any feedback from recruits?

On another topic, how long is UM's NFL touchdown streak now?

Danke!

canechic

Not only is defense dead in College Football but I think it is non-existent in the NFL. Numbers being put up by QB's is obscene!

SinisterCane

Golden may want to rethink wearing that hot a$$ long sleeve/tie combo, he was melting on the sidelines.

VA Cane

Arthur Brown

2 games, 6 solos, 13 assists, 2.5 tackles for loss of -13 yards, .5 sack for -2 yards.

Bryce Brown

1 game, 3 carries, 17 yards, 1 carry for loss, net gain 16 yards, long of 12, 16 ypg.

Arthur not bad huh....BB the greatest thing since sliced bread....pretty mild. Just for being a jerk, with an agent and thinking he was so good, he has not turned out to be much has he?

Can anybody say Lamar Miller?

solarcane

CBS sports B Feldmen

In Miami, the Canes drilled No. 17 Ohio State 24-6 as UM's running game really took it to the Buckeyes early and often. Lamar Miller, UM's super-fast tailback, almost equaled Miami's rushing yardage total from their loss to OSU last year (120) in Columbus in the first quarter (115) alone. Miller is rapidly emerging as one of the nation's top players, the kind of talent the Canes haven't had in the past few years. There haven't been a lot of difference-makers on offense for this program lately, and Miller is definitely one. He also ran behind a big, athletic O-line that responded to being challenged by line coach Art Kehoe.

Miami ended up doubling last year's rushing total against the Buckeyes, gaining 240 yards with a robust 5.7-yard per carry average. Still, this was not a resounding performance for Jacory Harris. He threw two INTs and another pass that could've been a pick-six. In a word, it was shaky. Again. He's going to have to be sharper if the Canes plan on surviving an ACC road schedule that includes trips to FSU, Virginia Tech and UNC.

As for the Buckeyes, Luke Fickell's offense was far too one-dimensional. OSU QBs actually had more passing attempts (15) than passing yards (13) through three quarters. I suspect if Fickell knew he was going to be the coach beyond 2011, he'd be leaning on freshman QB Braxton Miller more, but after the Miami game, he might give the kid the keys right now as OSU gets ready for the Big Ten schedule.

The downside for the ACC, Maryland couldn't overcome a big hole against West Virginia, where Geno Smith upstaged Danny O'Brien. On top of that, their two future ACC members, Pitt and Syracuse both lost too.

Listening to the Golden interview it's quite clear Jacory is going to start every game unless he is injured.
Golden feels Jacory makes all the right decisions putting long drives together.

Fisch is molding the offense around a lame duck passer and thoroughbred runner so I'm getting more confident we see less picks.
Jacory doesn't look as scared as he looks in confident of his long throws.

We will have to run to the redzone then let Jacory do some play action when the other teams are stacked against Lamar, James.

It was a good week for the U.
Improved academic ranking (#38)
A much needed win over (#17) OSU.
No new scandal.

Nevertheless, let's not forget . . .
Five other ACC schools (including NC and GT) are higher than the U in the academic rankings. (Although we're still number one in Florida - well ahead of FSU, UF, and USF).
Five other ACC schools (including NC and GT) are higher than the U in the football rankings. (And we're still only four in Florida - well behind FSU, UF, and USF).
And a dark cloud (impending NCAA sanctions) looms large over the Coral Gables campus.

So, let's revel in the rise - both academically and athletically.
But keep things in perspective. We've got a long way to go - both academically and athletically. Moreover, we're bound to receive probation from the NCAA, sooner or later.

"And when you're burned . . . you've got nothing!"

I was thinking the same thing about GT they are steam rolling.
How much has Coach D faced the option?
Our d guys should be at the top of their game by then though.
GT is a good game to get our O line dinged up.

Clemson is playing lights out for sure, if their coaches don't screw them up they could beat FSU.

If we win the next 2 games, and we should easily, we'll be 3-1 headed to VT and ranked probably around #20-22. VT should win the next of their 2 games, probably putting them around #10 or #11.

Will be a huge game for us regardless, but if the chips fall where I think they will, it will be a huge boost for us in the rankings also if we can go into VT and beat them.

That said, I hope the players don't look at that stuff, and I don't think Golden will let them. They need to focus 100% on K-State.

Great win Saturday, against a very average OSU team. Jabboney is still at his old tricks, with the int's and the middle of our Dee, is as soft as a mushroom. Thank God OSU's Qb's looked like Pop Warner kids, trying to throw or Kirby Freeman against NC ST. a couple years back.
Lamar Miller was outstanding but we need to throw on first down some or these up coming teams are going to start stacking the box and forcing you know who to beat us throwing, Yikes! Getting back to Jabboney, I swear the dude is colorblind. Had Byrd open by 10 yards and floats it.Where was Benny during the game, other than a few punt returns, he was mainly invisible, oh yes 1 catch for maybe 1 yard. We are a long way from where we need to be. I'm more concerned about our DT's and Middle LB. OSU ran very well inbetween the tackles. We might as well get used to whoever QB's for us throwing a couple INT's but if we don't get these 2 problems fixed I can't see us beating FSU or Va. Tech and UNC's d-line is going to be tough to run against.Good luck to us!

Glad the Canes won. Going to have to straighten things out on the QB situation - at least it's not as bad as Ohio State .. those kids are terrible. OLine is going to have to beast out this year if the primary part of the offense is going to be duck fart throws and a whole lot of running

The Cane walk was insane. Somehow me not falling asleep and landing in the swamp of Alligator Alley on the drive home is also insane

Hi all!

Six, good to see you on Saturday... albeit briefly.

I'm not sure how many of you were at the inagural Hurricane Walk, but that was awesome!

Saturday's game was an improvement from the Maryland game (still sick from that down pour, btw) but I'm not fooling myself in thinking that was a good OSU team. That said... an improvement is an improvement.

I think the NCAA realizing it over reacted to UNC at first might be a big help when they deal with us.

solarcane

Hi KL great to see you here

This entire NCAA Sanction saga is a joke.

I would like to know what in the hell is this all about?

And I am not referring to just the Canes, but to all schools.

Seriously, it is what it is, but this is one story after the next.

It's Kremlinesque or like the IRS being told to "unleash the hounds" should there be a citizen who underpaid his taxes by $10.

Frankly, I am not so sure I give a dam* anymore.

And if the NCAA does not institute set rules for violations, then I will never believe this is ever for the benefit of the student-athlete, the integrity of the game, or whatever Utopian bs the NCAA attempts to espouse. Well, I'll be honest, I don't believe that now! But I swear, the NCAA makes Goodell look like an even handed commissioner.

GREG COTE / MIAMI HERALD:

Jacory Harris has not done enough to continue to be the starting quarterback at the University of Miami.

It is time to hand the season — the football and the future — to sophomore Stephen Morris.

This isn’t easy to say now, as the Hurricanes and their fans rightly celebrate Saturday night’s well-won 24-6 home-opening victory over No. 17 Ohio State. The first win for new coach Al Golden was a big one — and an emotional one — and a needed salve for a program that has weathered its share of hurt lately.

“There ain’t no half-full glass here,” as Golden said afterward, orange necktie ablaze on a soaked white shirt. “We just beat the Ohio State Buckeyes 24-6.”

OSU was as big and physical as we are going to face all yr long. Our practices under Golden are harder than the games. We showed how our practice tempo was by putting a beat down on OSU in the forth q.
Im not worried about or d. Run defense is gang tackling. Pass d is mostly coaches making adjustments. I put a lot of confidence in Coach D. The playas are now being coached on the side lines.

KLCane and Sailor...good to see U guys back on the blog again! Missed U at the game.

It was a MUCH needed victory for Miami over OSU no doubt about that. If we win our next two then the table is set for the tough back-to-back games on the road against VT and UNC.

Then we will know what we have.

GO CANES!!!

If those are UNC's self imposed sanctions the NCAA can still add to them can't they?
I always thought the end of October was the NCAA's final say to UNC.

Without a doubt, this win was very good momentum builder going into KState and BCC

Gives J12 and some of the Dline boys some time to get in better game shape

The away games are gonna be tough

But I have faith in this years coaching staff to coach them up and out of difficult situations!

In Golden I Trust!!

pre,
it could never happen but what if every high school football player in America stuck together went on strike and said,

" Hey we aren't playing at a NCAA school, somebody set up something better and we will go there."

I'd love to see the NCAA backpeddle and kiss a bunch of behinds.

j.w.

if we are lucky enough to get the same deal as UNC proposed, I'll be a happy alum.
