Go CANES!!!

IraqiCane

How many of the visits in he next two weeks are we lookin to get? What do y'all think the total class size will be? Thanks.

mwm8y

So how do I get to the live chat?

Sota cane

I was expecting some commitments this weekend? Instead all i see is a commit wavering an one comitting elswhere. What gives?

Michael Morris

Is this the chat?

IraqiCane

Just want to say thanks to Soup from me and all the other Canes tha are deployed around the world. Without Canespace we would all be hurtin even worse.

GO CANES!!!

Sota cane

Which of our current wr commits making an impact next year? And what are the chances of amari cooper making the switch?

Sota cane

Were going to see alot of new faces? Who do u guys seeing making the biggest impact on offebse and defense?

86Cane

MWM8y...We do a LIVE Q&A session here in the blog comments section. To follow along post comment and click the "time stamp" next to each of your comments or questions or just click your "referesh button" once in a while.

Post your questions here and we will see who shows up and when. I did not have time to confirm all of the participants today so it a hit or miss tonight.

Sota cane

I know its been asked plenty and nobody truly knows, but if u had to guess who do u see transferring?

Sota cane

Which of our incoming linebackers do u see making an early impact? Since they are all enrolling early

86Cane

Sota...on Cooper I know that Golden is pressing hard and I have heard that Miami stands a fairly good chance to land him from a few sources. That is unless the $$$ starts flowing like water from the SEC schools then it is anybody's guess.

Obviously he would be a great "get" for Golden at a position of need for UM.

Although I will not name names here I have heard that as many as 6-8 COULD transfer. Today the rumors were about a FEW players possible switching positions to find a role next year and avoid transferring so we will see what happens in the end.

I do know that several players were given specific clear cut goals to complete IF they are to return next season.

Papa Cane

Good evening folks. Hello to the Canes fan in Iraq. Thank you for your service. Ok, send me your questions.

Was Forston one and then he decided to leave instead?

Papa Cane

I think a lot of folks are not underestimating LB Josh Witt. I think that he is going to play early and do very well.

86Cane

Posted by: DrewZ2 | December 13, 2011 at 08:20 PM

Don't get it twisted, I am NOT calling Cooper to Miami, I am simply saying that are chances have improved with him not the other way around.

Still may be slim chances but the odds are moving in the right direction as compared to a player like Goldman for example who is prolly Alabama bound.

DrewZ2

@Papa Cane

Do you think we get DT Goldman now that Forston is gone? I hear we have to beat out Bama for him

Papa Cane

Transfer? Several players have been told that there is a program in place which they need to follow, if not, their scholarships will not be renewed. They are on a year to year basis. No 4 year deals.

I expect 1-2 transfer possibly. Possibly.

The Dude

Have we started recruiting Greg Olsen's little bro yet? Wouldn't it be nice to have him commited early on?

Papa Cane

Right now, Amari Cooper is solid to Alabama. Nick Saban was in town today and he made the rounds, including Amari. Bama has told him that they see him possibly at CB, but he wants to play WR.

Miami is recruiting him HARD and anything could happen from today until February.

The Dude

Can we get an update on how the weight room is going?

Papa Cane

Drew, DL Eddie Goldman's childhood team were the Miami Hurricanes. Miami has a chance, but SEC will always have the upper hand for OOS players. Times have changed, and so have the perks associated with recruiting.

No one here is stupid. We all know what goes on. I don't think that will be an issue with Goldman, but it is an uphill battle and I just don't think we will get him.

Papa Cane

Yes. We have been recruiting Kevin Olsen for over a year now and he is sitting on an offer.

86Cane

Jorge Milian from the Palm Beach Post tweeted yesterday that: "The Canes will be lucky to go 6-6 next year."

What do U all think of that comment?

Predictions for this YOUNG team in 2012?

The Dude

Does anyone know how likely he is to come to the U like Greg?

The Dude

What is next years schedule like?

DrewZ2

NOT that it matters but does our recruiting class finish in the top 5?

That would show a very strong finish by Golden

Papa Cane

We are probably sitting at #1 on Kevin Olsen's list.

The Dude

I am on my phone so it is hard to go back and forth to look at the schedule. Miami should go at least 6-6 next year.

elliott

Miami will NOT go 6-6 next year not with a QB like Williams. If Jacory was coming back then yes we would lose 6 games but not next year. I know I am in the minority for this but I see us having a good year next year unlike many on here.

Papa Cane

Our class will be ranked in the Top 10. Not 5.

The Dude

That's good, we got to get back to being the USC of the east coast, where all kids are interested in coming here.

roachcane77

When does this semester end for the current U players, (how many more "workouts" will they get in), and when do they report back to school?

Or have they already finished for this year?

The Dude

I think they can fix the corner situation next year, I think the QB play will be as good and the OLine will be better, I am still concerned with the DT position but otherwise I think we will be a better football team. We could have been dynamic at RB next year but should still be effective. It will depend on the sched next year because I do believe the team will be better.

86Cane

OFF TOPIC Questions for the Fans here:

1. Heisman Trophy to RGIII instead of pre-season favorite Andrew Luck. How would U have voted?

2. Miami Dolphins fire Sparano. Who do U want to see replace him?

3. Tim Tebow. Love what he is doing in the NFLU or hate it?

The Dude

Looks like they all no showed 86?

Papa Cane

I think Miami will have an 8-4 record at best. Little depth at all positions. Little experience. Now, 2 years from now? Top 5 and potential national champion.

I am dead serious.

86Cane

Our class will be ranked in the Top 10. Not 5.

Posted by: Papa Cane | December 13, 2011 at 08:39 PM

Agree 100%. Any BIG surprises out there?

I was told by another source that there are three "silents" at the current time but no names. Still lot's of visits to be played out and nobody wants to spoil the coming out parties!

The Dude

The right guy got the Heisman, I am a chargers fan so I don't care and I love Tim Tebow. RGIII and Tebow are both great kids. I always route for great kids no matter what school they played for.

Papa Cane

Remember the name Robert Lockhart. If he inks with Miami, and I expect him to do so, he will start next year, and surprise a lot of people. Absolute Baller.

The Dude

What position does the baller play?

Papa Cane

WR

86Cane

Dude...Yeah I had to work all day and was not able to round everyone up like last time when we had them ALL on here at the same time.

Susan had a recent loss in her family and may be out of town so I am not sure?

Manny usually can only come on LATE like after 10 PM so we will see.

Chris was supposed to be here so I do not know what happened there.

Prolly all my fault for trying to go too fast and make this happen on Tuesday instead of Thursday.

Manny and I will be in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl for the FHSAA championship games on Friday and Saturday at 1 PM for Norland and Central.

We will have LIVE updates from there during the games and a full report and photos after each game.

longtimecanfan

odds on Morris being the starter next season? any thoughts??

Papa Cane

Will be back in 15.

86Cane

Papa...our insider says the name to remember is unheralded WR D'Mauri Jones.

Says he STOOD out at the Golden Summer Camps more than any other skill player.

Do you know about him and your opinion?

The Dude

All I could see was the OOC sched, 2-2 there at worst. At best probably 3-1.

Hassan

Anyone,

1. How high is Smith our DT ceiling? I think a RS year would have helped him get in shape and get stronger but oh well, I think he can be an ALL ACC guy if he really develops in the weight room and spring practice.

2. Do we take a 4th Lineman? I honestly think you can nto have too many of these guys, with a class of 32+ 3 lineman is a small class, if we do Do you guys think Sunny Osdogwu is a good target, he is 6'9 and 270 but very raw with just 1 year of football under his belt.

3. Do the future canes create a culture that they do not want to jump early unless they are a sure sire top pick, i think this is key, you get a 5 start player an he is now a 3 year starter what how many stars would he be worth? 7-8? You can not replace a 8 star RB, Miller and a 6 star WR easily. Our Juniors leaving early hurts us and we need to create an environment where that happens rarely and is not the norm. Of course it helps if you do not take an entire H.S MNW in one class where they are so close they will be with he same agent same everything.

4. Out of our 28 or so commits, which commits size/ speed is over hyped the most. I am tired of getting guys that are supposed to be 6'f Copper and end up 5'9.5 and 190 lol. I hope our staff is measuring these guys on official visits, because We all thought Hank was 6'3 til the combine.

The Dude

8-4 could be a good year depending on the losses, could set us up for an ACC run the following year. I just hope the penalties aren't to harsh.

DrewZ2

I agree that best case is 8-4 next year...but my prediction is 6-6. The defense I think will be either the same or worse next year and offense I can't see being better. Very Very young and inexperienced all over.

New QB, inexperienced WRs, inexperienced DBs and LBs. Depth along the DLine is going to be thin with lots of young guns

longtimecanfan

I'd offer 7-5 is realistic. New QB, lots of new faces on the D side, not alot of experience, and not much depth.

Overall play may be better, but key mistakes against better teams will be costly.

A better record depends on getting more takeaways by the D, and special teams coming up with scores.

The Dude

That's a good point Hassan. You haven't done sh*t until the combine. You don't run a 4.3 you're not 6'5" and you are too fat until you show up and prove it at the combine, I remember when the announcers during and Ohio st game said Prior runs a 4.2... On who's clock? Not the nfls.

Ohio_Cane

Sorry I'm late...

Papa Cane, again, thanks for all the info U provide on twitter that we can share with the Canespace folks and for coming here to answer questions.

Do U see any BIG surprise commits the fans will be raving about once the news hits?

The Dude

Well it is really hard to judge how good the team is right now and how good the coaching staff is. The turned around Jacory that is for sure, but Morris does have the game experiences. I think they will put Morris in good positions. I think him having a year close to Jacorys is a reasonable expectation. Wr is tough to gauge. Benjamin had 4 years experience. Can't replace that with these guys. But Streeter was a one year wonder. Hearns should be solid. Who will step into the deep threat and who will be the red zone threat?

86Cane

Sorry about the delay and lack of participants tonight folks, that is on me.

Here is a link to the last chat we had about two weeks ago with everybody involved:

pbcfrcane13

OOC schedule....Kstate,ND,BCookman, and USF

* ACC home games: Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech
* ACC road games: Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Virginia

The Dude

The good news is that all the tough ACC games are at home that may be the bad news too because Miami home attendence is pathetic. I just hope the other teams don't turn them into home games. I think 8 wins is expected. 9 would be over achieving and 7 is under achieving.

pbcfrcane13

Btw is that ND set for Oct 6th...looking to go to that game!

After standout campaigns in the 2011 season, Miami's Denzel Perryman and Anthony Chickillo have been named to the Yahoo! Sports Freshman All-America Team. Perryman earned first-team honors, while Chickillo was named to the second team.

Perryman, who finished the season ranked first among Atlantic Coast Conference freshmen with 69 tackles, saw action in all 12 games. He finished his freshman season ranked second on the team in tackles (69) and tied for third on the team in tackles for loss (6.5).

In his first career start against then-No. 20 Georgia Tech, Perryman recorded seven tackles, three tackles for loss and his first career sack. He would go on to start the final four games of the season for the Hurricanes, recording a career-high 14 tackles in the team's season finale against Boston College.

Last week, the Coral Gables High product was named to the CBSSports.com 2011 Freshman All-America Team.

Chickillo played in all 12 of Miami's game this season, including starts in the final nine contests of the year. His five sacks were tied for the team lead, helping him to a third-place finish in ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year Award voting.

The Tampa, Fla. native finished the season with 38 total tackles, with his season-best effort coming at then-No. 21 Virginia Tech, where he had eight takedowns.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Miami senior guard Riquna Williams earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week ending Dec. 11, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Williams, a Preseason All-ACC First-Team selection, scored a career-high 36 points in a 92-81 double overtime victory over No. 11 Rutgers at the BankUnited Center on Dec. 5. In the team’s next game against Ole Miss on Dec. 10, Riquna led all scorers with 17 points in a blowout 76-48 victory over the Lady Rebels.

The Pahokee, Fla. native is now averaging 17.6 points per contest in 2011, second-highest on the team and third-best in the conference. With her selection, Williams became the active conference leader as the only seven-time ACC Player of the Week honoree.

CaneRock

As far as next year goes, defensively, we need players to step up at the MLB (Perryman?),FS (Telemaque?), and SS (Ray-Ray?) spots. And oh, Coach D, Williams, and Jethro need to get their ish together.

Offensively...hell...I don't know. I watched some YT highlights of the Preston kid, and I'll tell you what, that kid looks like He has some promise, He looks accurate as hell with a quick release. At WR, we'll either be young, inexperienced, or underachieving, unless Fisch can find another way to utilize Cleveland and Walford. We should have adequate depth at RB, and Cory White coming back healthy should be a boost to the O-Line. I say anywhere from 6-6 to 8-4 should be our record...

86Cane

pbc...the game date can NOT move. The date is set at Soldier Field!

Susan Miller Degnan

Hi everyone! I really came to say a quick hello, but wanted to make sure you saw my story that was just posted on The Miami Herald website. Safety Ray-Ray Armstrong is returningto UM for his senior season, per his father, Albert Armstrong. I had a nice interview with his dad, and have a blog on it and story that is pretty much the same stuff.

86Cane

Thanks for stopping by Susan.

Post a link to your story here?

Ohio_Cane

I'm PUMPED Ray Ray is coming back! Smart decision to stay

Susan Miller Degnan

Maybe DE Olivier Vernon will also decide to stick around UM. But I'm not so sure about him. I had this weird feeling that he was going to jump ship. Hopefully he won't. He's a real talent and the UM defense would be a lot better for him staying. I also think his draft stock will rise a bunch if he stays.

pbcfrcane13

Susan and rumors your hearing why Forston jumped ship? Didn't seem like a smart move on his part.

Hassan

I posted 4 questions, none get answered, awesome Q&A

Also people are worrying thinking a lot of people leaving early or with transferes coming up that maybe Al Golden is the problem what do you think?

To me it seems like kids who were used to make type of relaxed atmosphere and are thinking this is not what i signed up for the tough work outs and you job always being up for grabs.

Susan Miller Degnan

Oops! I screwed up the link. just copy and paste it. As far as Marcus Forston,I think he was sick of being hurt and maybe felt like he needed to get away and start anew. He really could have used a strong senior season. Disappointed in that decision but I wish him the best.

pbcfrcane13

Have you heard of any names of kids looking to transfer out after the semester?

86Cane

That being said, UM's depth chart will look awfully young next year. That's an enticing sell for freshman who want to play right away, but not necessarily a good look for an improvement from 6-6.

Here is the projected depth chart at the moment, assuming Miller leaves (rated second best RB by NFLDraftScout.com) and everyone else returns:

Hey Hassan! Don't give up. No. 3 question: 3. Do the future canes create a culture that they do not want to jump early unless they are a sure sire top pick, I think this is key, you get a 5 star player and he is now a 3 year starter what how many stars would he be worth? 7-8?

Of course it helps if you do not take an entire H.S MNW in one class where they are so close they will be with he same agent same everything.

I don't know if a culture can create that kind of mindset, but it's a cool thought. I think what creates that more than anything is the program getting so strong and the team winning so much that the players want to stay as long as they can. Otherwise, these days you almost have to assume that guys are going to jump ship early.

It's sad, I think, not to have that feeling of the team being so close knit and so special as a unit that guys don't want to leave. But I certainly can't blame guys for making their decisions. After all, it's within the rules, and so many of these guys' families don't have much and could use the money.

I just think that some of them could make a lot more if they'd stay.

pbcfrcane13

Man WR doesn't look to good!

Susan Miller Degnan

I am so sorry I showed up late, then left early. I'll try to do better next time. Everyone have a safe night and get some sleep!! Thanks 86Cane. :)

86Cane

Take care Susan AND thanks for your time.

Be safe and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hassan

Whoo hoo got one 86. 1%er here i come.

We are not going to be very good next year, let's face it. we will not go 0-12 but we will fight for bowl eligibility late in the season. However getting stronger and our depth at all positions and tons of SFLA talent on our roster we can start to look pretty mean in 2013. A lot of guys can be beast that are only 3 stars in HS so i am not daunted I just know you can not win many games in CFB with a QB who can not read defenses and 33 freshman and about 10-12 of them on your 2 deep.

j.w.

Missed it again- how's the saying go- when your kids act their worst, they need you the most? Learning that firsthand with an otherwise sweet little 5-year old.

ChrisWittyngham

Sorry for my late arrival. I am here

86Cane

Chris...look up the blog for the LIVE chat questions. Just pick and choose, we had a SLOW night! LOL

86Cane

Chris...Lots of UM underclassmen running for the NFLU. Let us examine:

Forston? 3rd round?

Streeter? 3rd round?

Miller? 2nd round?

Ray Ray is coming back and I expect Vernon and BWash to do the same.

Hey sorry I'm late!

86Cane

Sorry for my late arrival. I am here

Posted by: ChrisWittyngham | December 13, 2011 at 10:44 PM

Listen I have two words that will make U cringe: Miami Dolphins.

I know U hate the Dolphins ownership for keeping Sparano around as long as they did just to lose the "Suck For Luck" sweepstakes.

Who do U want as coach for the Fins?

Strauzer

Seeing a lot of over reaction by fans and the media about some underclassmen leaving. Fact is Miller should surprise nobody. Streeter is disappointing but Rosenhaus is probably telling him there isnt much difference between late second and third round money. Forston has been a disappointment all around and the only way he gets drafted is if his knees are 100% cleared at the combine. Any sniff of a physical issue and he'll be lucky to go 7th round IMO.

86Cane

Strauzer...late is NOT a good excuse.

Give us the goods! What do U know?

Hassan

Yeah Chris Answer mine

ChrisWittyngham

Hassan, I did, not sure if it got posted.

Cliffnotes

1. Smith could have definitely used more time to grow and get into shape to play full games.

2. It seems clear to me that they need as many linemen as possible

3. The only culture that can be created is a winning one so teams know they can comeback to something that could help their draft stock. The guys leaving know that even if they have success they could not play in a bowl.

4. Golden has talked about height and weight requirements. However, Sean Spence was undersized, so it's not a end all be all
