Hello, Josh Wilson from FloridaHSFootball.com here tonight!
Posted by: Joshua Wilson | January 26, 2012 at 07:47 PM
LB...he will have his two-deep roster to discuss at that time along with other UM news and recruiting coverage.
Posted by: SOUP | January 26, 2012 at 07:48 PM
UM Staff, how do you feel about cutting players? It is allowed by the NCAA but is generally frowned upon. The Saban Scholarship is also frowned upon giving kids a medical hardship and kicking them off the team to make room for another recruit.
Posted by: hassan | January 26, 2012 at 07:48 PM
Joshua...tell us about what you have going on at your site and recruting news?

Well, we are actually about to put a fresh spin on to things for 2012 and do things the right way. On Wednesday we will be launching the first edition of the Evening News Bulletin bringing in news from around the state into one straight forward newsletter that will be available both ohline and through email subscription for FREE! I will get your chops licking on that one, but I will be on here through out the the night to talk.

Recruits, assistants caught unaware
By Dave Hooker
ESPN Recruiting Nation
Greg Schiano was supposed to be at Don Bosco Preparatory School promptly at 8 a.m. Thursday morning to recruit some key prospects.
That never happened.
As scheduled, five Rutgers assistant coaches showed up at the Ramsey, N.J., school, which showcases several highly rated prospects each year. The coaches were focused on securing current commitment Leonte Carroo, a three-star receiver, and Darius Hamilton, a four-star defensive end who is primarily considering the Scarlet Knights and Florida.
"The coaches were kind of shocked," Don Bosco coach Greg Toal said. "They said 'Coach Schiano, he's never late for anything.' "
At first, the coaches thought Schiano might have gotten caught up in another meeting, despite the importance of the Don Bosco appointment.
"They didn't think it was any big deal," Toal said of their initial response. "They didn't know that he was in negotiations or anything like that."
Then, when reports began to surface that Schiano had accepted the head coaching job for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Rutgers assistants were caught unaware.
"No one knows where this is going right now," Toal said. "I'm sure it caught a lot of people off guard."
With six days before national signing day, Rutgers suddenly finds itself in an incredible time crush to secure its 2012 class.

@LB - About to have refresh design that is going up here in just a few minutes.
@86Cane - We have a commitment list....As far as 2013 commitments, Miami is already sticking out and I think they are in line to build another solid class up. I will also say that this class is the year of the running back with Greg Bryant, Kelvin Taylor and Derrick Henry topping the list right now as far as great backs are concerned.

Jesse Marks - Assistant Athletic Director for Development. Thank you for having me!

and 2) Who is the #1 "early entry" Cane this year in their opinion?

Papa- What are our chances with Harvey-Clemons?
Posted by: 3G Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:09 PM
3G Cane, good question about the linebacking corps. Obviously there's going to be some room for some new guys to step up. But I've got Buchanan, Perryman and Kelvin Cain penciled in as starters. Buc won't play in the spring so look for new comers to pitch in here. Keep an eye on Raphael Kirby and Gionni Paul who will compete for more time.

The Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence has broken ground and construction crews are busy working away. I posted a picture of the work being done today on my twitter @jessehmarks. Posted by: Sota cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:11 PM
Brandon, I agree with most of your LB picks but not Kelvin Cain. He is behind in his development and still needs to get it together. Right now, Paul is ahead.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:11 PM
@Jesse Marks - When will Miami be start selling their tickets to the Notre Dame game?
Also when will the schedule get released?
Posted by: DrewZ2 | January 26, 2012 at 08:12 PM
Help me out with the secondary two-deep.
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 08:13 PM
Soup, I see the linebackers as an area where Perryman will provide a lot of stability. You have to like what Buchanan brings back also from the standpoint of experience, though it's wait and see with his knee concerns and rehabbing from that is tough. Golden was really high on Kelvin Cain during last season. He made the BC depth chart, so he should compete. I expect Kirby and Witt to make noise, they both were HS studs, likely special teams guys at the very least.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:13 PM
Jesse...how much is a Brick? Put Canespace down for one, we will raise the $$$ here on the blog.

PJ Williams to UM is almost, if not totally dead. The main targets at CB are Antonio Crawford and Tracy Howard. I am hearing good things about Howard, and have warmed up to the possibility of him picking UM.
Right now UF leads and this weekend's visit will decide it for Tracy. It's 60-40 UF right now. I have also been told that he loves UM.

Papa, Kain made the depth chart against BC so he got the nod from me. But yes, Paul must be watched.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:15 PM
Soup, great question... Now being in the stadium for going on 5 years we know the ins and outs of the facility. We are working with the stadium daily to explore new enhancements that work for the Canes... Last year we introduced the sideline club for Hurricane Club Members and it has been a big hit.. Hopefully we can continue to improve that space and make it a great place for qualifying hurricane club members to gather and be close to the action
Posted by: Jesse Marks | January 26, 2012 at 08:15 PM
Montreal Cane, Leonard Williams might not make it. His grandmother is sick.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:15 PM
Who among the non big named recruits do you see making an impact this coming season or maybe next. Do you see Any of the commits that may be flying under the radar right now that come this fall have the potential to blow the coaching staff and fans away?
Posted by: TheWhat | January 26, 2012 at 08:16 PM
Regarding quarterbacks, I think it's Stephen Morris' job to lose. He'll have a bit of an edge over Ryan Williams in the spring and going into fall camp. I think Morris will win the battle, but it will also be determined by who the better leader is in some respects. That's in the weight room and off season prep. We won't know who's doing that until we can talk to players beginning on March 3rd.

Brandon
Where does Gaines fall into the mix in the LB rotation?
Posted by: Michael Talarico | January 26, 2012 at 08:17 PM
Drew- Notre Dame tickets will go on sale this Summer sometime in June... Tickets will be available to purchase for all Hurricane Club Members at the $250 level and above.
Football Schedule will be released sometime next month by the ACC!
Posted by: Jesse Marks | January 26, 2012 at 08:18 PM
Jesse - I have been a Hurricane Club member in the past and look forward to being one again in 2012. I live in Charlotte and don't make it to many home games and I always thought it would have been nice to have a shirt or patch to wear so other fans could see it and be inspired to donate as well.
Also, which sites for merchandise provide the greatest profit for the athletic program?
Posted by: CGNC | January 26, 2012 at 08:18 PM
No, we are not in the hunt for Cooper or Goldman. Cooper is already at Alabama and Goldman eliminated us. The rumor that no on wants to talk about is the amount of perks that SEC teams are throwing at him.
Brandon, Cain has talent, but its the mental side of things that is keeping him back. Last year he disappeared, and guess why? It was not an injury.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:18 PM
If you address questions directly at me it makes it easier.

Jesse...If we know someone with cash to give to UM how do we connect them with U? Are all donations to UM tax deductible?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:19 PM
Jesse-Has there been any discussions about retro-fitting the stadium and moving seats closer? Or is that not an option?
Posted by: 3G Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:20 PM
Brandon...let's talk about the OL. Is Kehoe getting it done and are the new recruits like Flowers and Isadora gonna help?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:20 PM
The QB job is Stephen Morris' to lose. I had a conversation with several folks and they believe that SM is the real deal. I expect Ryan Williams to be the backup, and for Crow and Thompson to redshirt.

I think Gaines has a good chance to start with Buc coming off injury. You may see Gaines, Perryman and Cain/Paul out there to start with. Or if Buc's completely healthy, you'll see the experience of Perryman, Buc and Gaines. But I would say the only guy I'd lock in to start next season at LB is Perryman. I wouldn't bet on anything else. Gaines played because he outworked everyone at his position. Not sure he's the most talented there.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:22 PM

Does anybody realistically believe we have a legit shot with caroo or hamilton even with the departure of Schiano?
Posted by: Michael Talarico | January 26, 2012 at 08:24 PM
@3G.
Hamilton is a real possiblity now that Goldman has eliminated us. We have uphill with Leonard who may not come. And Schiano left town.

Chris, how long will the Raising Canes/3 Penny docs last?
Hello from WV, by the way.
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 08:30 PM
I think in the secondary you'll see Vaughn and Ray Ray at safety and then you'll see B. McGee at one corner spot and depending on how recruiting goes, you could see a true freshmen, Thomas Finne (who played a fair amount last year) or Dallas Crawford at the other spot. Crawford gets rave reviews by teammates. Crawford might also peek in at safety.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for doing this CaneSpace and esteemed guests!
I have a few questions that I'm hoping you can help me with.
(1) Golden was a Dwyer HS today... Does anyone know what player(s) he's interested in from that school?
(2) There have been rumors of silent commitments for awhile. Any idea on whether this is true and if so who these might be (or what position)?
(3) This class is already enormous... Assuming all of our current commits stay with us on NSD, how many more can we take on? I've heard a lot of figures and explanations on this but I'm really trying to get at is if you have heard of any creative things the Canes coaches are doing to exceed the minimum? I'm sure there will be academic casualties like every year; who do you project might fall in this category?
Thanks again! GO CANES!!!

Hi guys. It's Susan. Working on stories for the ING Miami Marathon this weekend (any of you runners, by any chance?), so can't partake in tonight's chat. I'll be back next time. In the meantime, who do you think gets the nod at starting quarterback next season? I was assuming Stephen Morris had the considerable edge, but I'm hearing that Ryan Williams is looking mighty good. I'll be back next time.

Posted by: hassan | January 26, 2012 at 08:34 PM
CGNC-There is power in numbers we need all canes fan to join the Hurricane Club for as low as $40 dollars. We need everyone to join the base and bigger gifts will follow. Nothing is more important than the masses supporting this program

UM Secondary next year?
Telemaque, Ray Ray, at safety. McGee and Howard (If we land him), at cornerback, otherwise Finnie.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:35 PM
Can't tell you what Williams is doing in the weight room. We're not invited. But I'll be able to tell as soon as we see him in March if he looks bigger. That won't mean he'll be the starter, but I hear he's got a live arm from people who've seen practices.
I think now that Jacory has left campus, the role of leader now will funnel more easily to Morris. He'll find it easier to step up in other words. I also don't think you'll see him take the sole lead of the team. Look for guys like Chick, Dorsett, Perryman, Mike James, Clements and others to be very vocal. I expect Ray Ray to play with something to prove also.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:35 PM
Ooops... One last question: What's your prediction on where the Canes will get drafted this year (especially since only two got invited to the combine, I believe)? Thanks! GO CANES!!!

@Montreal
Brandon is only answering depth chart.
But the writing is on the wall, if the Rutgers WR is coming in this late for a visit and Rico Louis isn't, it seems as though the coaches or Rico do not want this partnership.
It's too late in the game.
