Miami Hurricane fans please jump right in and post your questions NOW for the LIVE chat.
Tonight from 8 PM and 11 PM Canespace is hosting a LIVE chat that will include several reporters who cover University of Miami athletics to answer your questions LIVE in real time.
Some will show up early and hit in the lead off position and some will show up later and bat clean-up. In the end, hopefully it will all work out.
Leading off tonight's chat at 8 PM will be two new featured guests on Canespace: Brandon Odoi from www.caneinsider.com.
If you haven't checked out their web site yet then you should and you should do it NOW!
Their site lives up to it's name as they provide some really exclusive and insightful "insider" coverage of UM sports with a strong emphasis on football.
They provide an incredible amount of awesome daily content and do an outstanding job of covering everyone's favorite topic: recruiting.
In addition, others who may participate tonight are:
- Susan Miller-Degnan, Miami Herald
- Manny Navarro, Miami Herald (will join late)
- SaveUMFootball, Twitter Guru
- FloridaHSFootball.com
Also joining us for the first time will be representatives from the UM Athletic Department including SID Chris Freet and UM Hurricane Club Major Gifts Director Jesse Marks.
So Hurricane fans please jump right in and post your questions NOW for the LIVE chat.
I'll direct that recruiting question at @Jon_Bastian from CaneInsider.com Or ask Papa Cane, he knows a ton.

Papa Cane - do you see the Canes having a realistic shot for any of Rutgers commits ? Also with Schiano having a good grasp in recruiting South Florida do you see it helping long-term?
Posted by: J-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:37 PM
Chris WQAM is the official broadcaster of Hurricanes football, basketball and baseball
can you ask them to have an international steam like they used to have so UM alumnis and Canes fans can listen to the games anywhere in the world?
Any decent radio station has an international stream even college stations do like WVUM "The voice".
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:37 PM
The folks that I speak to, and who are deeply connected in the program tell me that all players have responded to the off-season program.
Did you know that Coach Golden assigned all players with specific readings in order to build leadership and strengthen the team? Yep.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Chris...good to have U on Canespace!
Tell us about NSD at:

Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Chris, just thought I'd add how well produced the docs are also. Great stuff. Finally getting a chance to watch most of them now that the seasons over.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Chris,
Who is replacing Bryan Harvey as baseball media relations director? I enjoyed his tweets and constant updates about the team.
Posted by: Javier | January 26, 2012 at 08:39 PM
Papa Cane - Which recruit do you think could be a surprise for Coach Golden to flip?
Posted by: J-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:39 PM
@Papacane - LOL did the other "regime" even have an off-season program?
Posted by: CGNC | January 26, 2012 at 08:39 PM
Papa,
So there is no chance Leonard Williams can come down for the visit? I really thought we had a shot with that kid.
Posted by: Michael Talarico | January 26, 2012 at 08:40 PM
Brandon, is it logical to assume that Hurns and Dorsett are 1/2 at this point?
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 08:40 PM
@Chris Freet
Do you have updates on if or when we might get new uniforms?
Posted by: Emil | January 26, 2012 at 08:41 PM
Schiano & Rutgers Boys: I do not think that Carroo will end up in this class, but teh DE/DL might. Coach has all hands on deck this weekend for Howard and Harvey Clemons. I am hearing good things about Howard from my best source
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:41 PM
What is the anticipated completion date of the shwartz center? Also, are there any future plans that include an indoor football/all purpose practice facility on campus?
Posted by: Bryan | January 26, 2012 at 08:43 PM
Sorry I'm late to the party, daughter needed a bath.
I'll apologize in advance if I ask something that's already been answered, but we're over 150 comments already, and I don't wanna miss anyone.
Brandon - Who do U see as the starters on the D-line? How about secondary? Can Deon Bush start immediately?
Papa - Good to see U here. Of all the 5-star guys visiting this weekend, who is most likely to commit?
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:43 PM
Emil - not this season. We arr strategically reviewing. Generally a 18 month process.
New WBB and baseball unis next season.
Posted by: ChrisFreet | January 26, 2012 at 08:44 PM
Brandon, with how thin we are at so many positions. You only think Tracy Howard would be the only Freshman that would be ready to jump into the starting lineup?
What about Raphael Kirby? The physical tools are there plus he is enrolled early and will have plenty of time to learn the schemes. I think the DE spot opposite of Chickillo is also primed for the taking.
Posted by: Ricosuave1911 | January 26, 2012 at 08:44 PM
Surprise recruit? Keep you eye on Antonio Crawford this weekend. He has been offered and I expect him to commit on the spot after his visit if that offer still stands. He is a gifted athlete and can cover almost as well as Tracy Howard. He is equally as fast.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:44 PM
LB, I think so. Don't be surprised if you see some position moves to the WR spot also. I'd say Crawford would be one to keep your eye on there.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:44 PM
Deon Bush is extremely gifted but still very raw, and does not have good hands. He will play CB for Miami and I actually expect him to redshirt.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:45 PM
Just chatted on the phone for a while with Susan Miller-Degnan. Nice lady, good reporter.
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:46 PM
Javier - @CamronGhorbi will pick up where Bryan left off. Super talented and creative writer. Will be new breed of communications professional
Posted by: ChrisFreet | January 26, 2012 at 08:46 PM
@chris...what about UM baseball?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:46 PM
Montreal - we have asked, but its not happening unfortunately
Posted by: ChrisFreet | January 26, 2012 at 08:47 PM
@Chris - the whole UM website last year was so much more improved - it seemed to coincide with the hiring of AG - was that part of it or was that a coincidence?
Posted by: CGNC | January 26, 2012 at 08:47 PM
On Antonio Crawford, he pretty much needs to be assured an offer before coming down to visit. He is risking losing his scholarship offer at GT by taking the visit. Usual Coach Paul Johnson protocol.
Posted by: Ricosuave1911 | January 26, 2012 at 08:47 PM
@86Cane - Did you get my tweet?
Posted by: Joshua Wilson | January 26, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Chris, Has Golden taken a vacation -- even for a week -- since he has arrived? Any plans to take one this year? I worry about him burning out.
Posted by: KLCane | January 26, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Another freshman to watch is Raphael Kirby. Right now, Denzel and Gionni are the leaders at LB, and Ramon is getting healthy which is a great sign. Kelvin is gifted but needs to catch up mentally.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:48 PM
Our Cane Insider Scout @JimmyDSmith tells me that Dwayne Hoillet who just enrolled has a good chance to be a situational rusher. Obviously Kirby's got a real chance to play but the defensive scheme isn't the easiest to pick up. Remember Perryman needed a few games to get up to speed. So maybe he plays later in the season, but he should open up on special teams. Especially due to depth concerns.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:48 PM
The video clips began with Randy - I remember him giving a game ball to Donna after the UNC win.
Posted by: Bryan | January 26, 2012 at 08:49 PM
Rico, Crawford was offered. Expect him to commit. My GT network assured me of the offer and Paul is looking elsewhere now.

Canes win over GT! 64-39
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:49 PM
Bryan- The Schwartz Center will be completed in about 18 months! I have not heard of any plans for an indoor football facility.
Posted by: Jesse Marks | January 26, 2012 at 08:50 PM
Brandon...what about coaching changes at UM? Have U heard anything?

-------------------------------------
Over WAKE! Man, I'm tired.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:50 PM
Ridiculous question, but who has the fastest 40 time?
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 08:50 PM
Bradon, I agree on Hoilett but expect him to redshirt. He needs to gain muscle and weight. Tyriq is more physically ready. All in all, Miami has a bright future. Oh and dont forget about Jelani Hamilton. He is recovering from knee surgery and will be a force to be dealt with.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:51 PM
Ohio- My DL right now is Chick, Porter, Darius Smith and a spot that could be filled by Shayon Green or a newcomer.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:51 PM
Posted by: ChrisFreet | January 26, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Many former Canes outside the US are complaning about that. WQAM is cheap.
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:51 PM
@ Chris Freet - The Raising Canes episodes will continue throughout this year, correct?
They're amazing!

Montréal cane, you on twitter ?
Posted by: Montréal-cane 2 | January 26, 2012 at 08:52 PM
Fastest Cane? Wow, tough question. Brandon McGee is very fast. Dorsett is also fast. That would be a very close race.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
Golden said from the beginning of the off season 86 that all guys will stay put. Obviously we've all seen the reports about coach Fisch and OC jobs in the Pros, I just don't see him doing it (yet).
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
@Chris, any word on Black football Unis? How involved is Coach Golden in the decisions of Unis?
Also if not black unis...Any throwback possibilities been thrown around?
Posted by: DrewZ2 | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
To the naked eye, our defensive scheme didn't appear to complicated to me. But I guess that is just my opinion. Or maybe they kept the playcalling simple until later in the season when they could pick it up.
Posted by: Ricosuave1911 | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
@Brandon - the D Line always seemed to play better with Curtis Porter but he seems to be injury prone - is he at or near 100% now?
Posted by: CGNC | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
I believe that's Mr. Johnson on the upper right, if I'm not mistaken.
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
Chris since you took over in the Communication department we as fans are very lucky. You do an awesome job!
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:53 PM
Kermit Whitfield class of 2013 probably has the fastest 40 time of the guys committed to UM right now - class of 2012 I would say Bush or Angelo Jean Louis - current team would be McGee, Davon Johnson, or P. Dorsett
Posted by: Bryan | January 26, 2012 at 08:54 PM
I've been told that the plan is to keep the original coaching staff in place for at least 1 year. There have been rumors about Fisch but he is not going anywhere. I spoke to him not too long ago and he loves Miami and wants to stay here.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:54 PM
@Jesse Marks any word on Black football Unis? How involved is Coach Golden in the decisions of Unis?
Also if not black unis...Any throwback possibilities been thrown around?
Posted by: DrewZ2 | January 26, 2012 at 08:54 PM
@ Papa Cane - Your opinion on which 5-star is more likely to commit this weekend?
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:54 PM
@86Cane - Let me get that 2013 commitment list up that I have. Will link it up here for everyone to see.
Posted by: Joshua Wilson | January 26, 2012 at 08:55 PM
LB, I would say B. McGee is the fastest. (Well based off of last year's "race")
Posted by: Ricosuave1911 | January 26, 2012 at 08:56 PM
Folks, D'Onofrio did miracles with last year's defense. Miracles. He barely had enough players to field a defense vs. maryland and a lot of kids were injured the rest of the way. There was also some dead weight - folks not buying in but those guys are now gone.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:56 PM
CGNC- Haven't seen Porter in person since the final game, but I'll put my eyes on him at the first spring practice. Man he played great the last two games. 10 tackles and 1 TFL. You've got to like what he offers. Imagine him with Chick all season long. Good times for coach D and staff.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:56 PM
Drew- Chris Freet would know more on the uniforms, would not want to put inaccurate information out there.
Posted by: Jesse Marks | January 26, 2012 at 08:56 PM
Ok guys, two more questions for me and I'm out of here at 9 p.m. You know how the saying goes: "happy wife, happy life."
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:57 PM
Papa Cane - Is there any body that is part of our current class that will not qualify academically ?
Posted by: J-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:57 PM
What number jerseys are going to be available for sale this year?
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 08:58 PM
Brandon - Have U answered any questions regarding the secondary and who will be the starters? If not, please do. Thanks!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:58 PM
Good night to everyone. Please follow CaneInsider.com for Canes coverage, and support UM by donating to the school. It's important. Also, be courteous to other fans, and never insult players - treat them like family.
Chris F - You do a a great job, and so does LaTonya. I always tell the DS that.
Go Canes!
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:58 PM
Brandon...tell us your keys to Miami's success next season?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:59 PM
Yes i am on twitter and perhaps you can choose a more original nick name so that there will be no confusion here or elsewhere. Thanks for your collaboration MTL 2 and welcome to Canespace.
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:59 PM
J-Cane, Angelo Jean Louis is working on his grades. Only one I am concerned about.
Posted by: Papa Cane | January 26, 2012 at 08:59 PM
I have Ohio but I'll recap. I think you'll see Ray and Vaughn back at safety with some newbies providing depth. And I like B. McGee as a lock on one side and some combo of Finnie, Dallas Crawford and maybe a newcomer on the other.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 08:59 PM
@PapaCane
When do you expect AG to be making cuts to this roster? and how many?
Posted by: Emil | January 26, 2012 at 09:00 PM
Brandon - My apologies, I missed the beginning. Will go back and look afterwards. Thanks!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:01 PM
Chris Freet and Jesse Marks...thanks for your time here tonight.
GO CANES!
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:01 PM
It's former WVUM Sports Director Justin Antweil. Sorry I'm late. Just got back from work. I'd be happy to answer some questions regarding Hurricanes Baseball. There are enough smart minded people that know a lot more about football than me so I'll leave them to recruiting and depth chart quesions.
Can stay for a few until I got to eat dinner.
Posted by: Justin Antweil | January 26, 2012 at 09:01 PM
Anytime Go Canes!
Posted by: Jesse Marks | January 26, 2012 at 09:02 PM
Will anyone be here to answer questions after 9?
Posted by: Ricosuave1911 | January 26, 2012 at 09:02 PM
Who is the hardest hitter on the team?
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 09:02 PM
Susan Miller-Degnan...U owe us one!
Manny Navarro usually drops in LATE.
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:02 PM
Justin - U a little pumped about the new Catcher, Peter O'Brien, for the Canes?! We sure are!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:03 PM
86 - fully engrained in NSD. Coaches will break down players for the first time live on camera then take fan questions.
Iits a wild ride but very authentic and we have some surprises

Justin...Good to see U! Tell us more about UM baseball and the BIG signing at catcher?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:04 PM
LB, based only on my personal observations, I would say that Denzel Perryman "brings the wood" the hardest.
Posted by: Ricosuave1911 | January 26, 2012 at 09:04 PM
Chris Freet - That coverage was AMAZING last year! Can't wait to watch all day next week! U guys do a great job!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:04 PM
Chris...we will send every Canes fan your way on NSD!
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:04 PM
@ Chris, Manny, or Susan...
We all know that Tracy says his relationship w the UF coaches is why he likes em so much...namely T-Rob their DB coach. Do you get the feeling that since our staff has only been in place for year that maybe he was a fan of the previous regime??? I know that the Muschump staff has only been there a year as well but they obviously have an advantage with a young DB coach who can relate. I believe he's about 29 or 30 years old and can relate to being heavily recruited...he was All Dade.
Posted by: Dadesfynest83 | January 26, 2012 at 09:05 PM
FYI - Papa Cane just tweeted that "UM verbal commitment DL Jacoby Briscoe has cancelled his trip to Tennessee. 100% Cane. Shutting it down."
GREAT NEWS!

Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM
ryan williams will be the starter
Posted by: CaneDawg | January 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Justin...what will it mean to have DiMare back on the bench for UM baseball?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Sure 86 and thanks for inviting me to chat tonight. Here are my keys:
1. Start fast. First game should be a schedule win. Next game is on the road at KSU (does Collin Klein still play for them?)
2. Run the ball. You'll have experienced backs with experienced linemen. You gotta pound. Limit mistakes from a first year starter. (Yes Williams started at Memphis, but that was ages ago).
3. Win at home. The Canes must protect the home field and not lose more than two. They lost to KSU, Virginia and Boston College all at home. Unacceptable.
Posted by: Brandon_Odoi | January 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Ohio Cane:
Peter is amazing. I saw him play each of the last three years at Bethune Cookman and Peter is the total package. He went to Bethune Cookman in the first place because Miami didn't recruit him. Miami had guys already named Jason Hagerty and Yasmani Grandal that turned out pretty good and Peter wanted to start right away and I don't blame him.
He's the missing piece. He can control a pitching staff. He's a guy that makes everyone around him better.
You have to admire a kid that turns down 6 figures to help care for his sick mother and finish up his education at his dream school. Too many kids bolt early for the pros.
Peter and Rony Rodriguez are a lethal 3-4 combination in the line up.
Posted by: Justin Antweil | January 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM
@Justin - Do we finally get out of our regional this year? Seeing how hard the ACC and the SouthEast in general is, what are our chances of hosting a regional?
Posted by: DrewZ2 | January 26, 2012 at 09:06 PM
Because if I'm not mistaken we were the first ones to offer, which means that he proly got the offer from the Shannon staff...right???
Posted by: Dadesfynest83 | January 26, 2012 at 09:07 PM
Ohio - thats the plan

86:
Joe Mercedante is good guy but it was time for him to go. Canes needed a different voice and fresh blood. Hiring Coach DiMare was a wise decision by Coach Morris. Coach DiMare is Miami. He's as intense as they come. I only knew him for one year but he's a no nonsense guy that will get the most out of his guys. It's no coincidence his last year was 2008, the last year UM made the college world series.
Posted by: Justin Antweil | January 26, 2012 at 09:10 PM
Chris, can you guys get more coaches on with Sid Rosenberg? It seems that the information is a lot clearer with him. I learned more about Al Golden and his personality just listening to their archives.
