Herbie,
Judging by sheer productivity, Perryman is on at least an equal level with Chickillo. Granted, the second year will help determine a lot.
Armstrong's a different case than those two.
And Soup, you know how I roll. A friendly reminder goes a long way. ;)

Well this can't be good, if true:
Wells Dusenbury from ESPN 760 - Gardens HC Chris Davis said Miami was supposed to stop by at 2:30 to talk with Avery Young, but they never showed.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 03:38 PM
Chris Nee feels like I did last year, in the fact maybe we threw some schollies around like it was trick or treat. He seems to think Crow is a waste, in not so many words. He really didn't sound to enthused about any of our QB's but hey, that's what we have Jedd for. It's not like they're going to play anytime soon.

Spence continue's to impress
"The flashiest performance of the day came courtesy of Miami (FL.)'s Sean Spence. At 5-11, 228, Spence is a bit undersized, but he was decisively downhill throughout the afternoon practice for the South, blowing up several plays in the backfield during the inside running drills. The Redskins coaching staff lined up the defense in a 3-4 occasionally, in which Spence played inside and called plays in the huddle. At one point, he was lauded for his communication. At the next level in a 4-3 scheme, Spence probably wouldn't hold up in the middle, but he is an impressive talent and a very sound tackler"

http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/fl/winter-garden/west-orange-high-school/corey-vereen
he is 6'3 230, runs a 4.6 is a big LB and a smart kid 3.5 GPA. we need to be on him. I talked to his coach and he says he is a good one. He uses his hands real well.

Wow, took me 20 minutes to catch up on everything. Great work, everyone!
Posted by: j.w. | January 26, 2012 at 04:22 PM
I want us to have fast tall and big lb's on this team with the occasional sean spence exception or perryman exception but we need to get big so we can dominate on defense man
Posted by: UpNorthCane | January 26, 2012 at 04:24 PM
If Northrup is tired of getting calls from Miami he should stop setting up OVs to other schools, declare his intention. I understand you are young, but don't be wishy washy just say whether you are staying with the U or not. Coaches around the country have to plan around what you tell them, so it makes things difficult if you are wishy washy.
Gray Crow in my opinion is not a wasted schollie. If he didnt EE then I would say possibly, but since he EEed it doesnt really hurt. I think QBs can blossom in college with the right coaching. I'm guessing Boise State's QB wasn't highly touted coming out of highschool but I have no idea.
Posted by: TheWhat | January 26, 2012 at 04:34 PM
I can't wait to see Ereck Flowers and Trel on the field at the same time! LOL, that's gonna be some SERIOUS SIZE to deal with.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 26, 2012 at 04:40 PM
Just to clarify, I have no problems with kids going on OVs. Its exciting going to a different city and getting treated like a king. But in Northrups case it seems like he just doesn't want to commit til the last day which is fine, but it affects the Miami staff and how they recruit. I think if you tell the coaches, I'm solid but want to take the OV just to have a good time they would be cool and not be on you.
Also on the flip side, if the Miami coaches dont hound some of these guys, then when you hear why they didnt pick Miami their first reason will be "well I didnt hear that much from them."
I just cant wait for recruiting to be over with lol.
This is just a guess, but I think Golden handed out a bunch of scholarships to players he must have absolutely loved early in the process. So the guys that got offered early must have made a great impression on him. He probably saw something he really liked. Those are the potential diamonds in the rough and or the filler players. You get those guys early, then focus on the big name players towards the end of the process as is happening now.
Posted by: TheWhat | January 26, 2012 at 04:42 PM
With Henderson, Gadbois, Flowers, and the rest of the crew... we should just name the offensive line "Biggie Smalls With Fries."
Why? No idea.
Posted by: LB | January 26, 2012 at 05:01 PM
Yeah, I get the player evaluation at the camp part but Being at a camp without pads and playing in a game with them on and pressure to perform to boot, is a different story. I'd like Al to be a little more judicious with the ships, at least early on. Some of those guys he could of gotten later on, instead of offering them based on a camp performance. I realize though, there are guys you have to jump on early, I see that part. To be a major player in the recruiting wars, like we have been for many years, we have way to many unranked players verballed. I can see with the amount of ships we have available, that we maybe would have 6 or so. If he can get those guys up to speed, who's to argue. You have to have depth and let's face it everyones not going to be an NFL caliber player.
Posted by: herbieibis | January 26, 2012 at 05:07 PM
I don't think Golden offers based on the camp alone, I believe he knows about these kids and once he gets a chance to see them close up and speak with them, decided to offer..I could be wrong..but I dont see Golden just handing out an offer to a kid he has ONLY seen without pads for 2 days..jmo

I wonder if this BS Northup is talking is just an "out" so he can flip to FSU.
Posted by: UMike | January 26, 2012 at 05:23 PM
I didnt realize Bryan Cox, JR committed to the turds..oh well
Posted by: UMike | January 26, 2012 at 05:26 PM
Umike- word on Cox is that he is a little too small for DLine, a little too slow for LB. Big heart, but he looks like another
Carl Walker.
Posted by: j.w. | January 26, 2012 at 05:30 PM
UMIKE,
alot of those kids a the camp, it was Goldens first time seeing them, aside from maybe some game film. He probably got 8 verbals from those camps alone. I think it's great that he's doing them, Shannon didn't have them. I know places like Texas & Penn State got alot of verbals from their camps. I'm just saying some of the tweeners, he could of maybe held off on and watched them play in person.

FOR YOU GUYS DISCUSSING THE INTERVIEW, CAMPS AND THE SCHOLLY OFFERS FLYING AROUND:
1. The guy Manny interviewed didn't really tell us anything than what we hadn't already heard or have known.
2. According to Da Skreetz the guy is completely WRONG on WR D'Mauri Jones. Da Skreetz was at the majority of the camps Golden held and he said that he and the UM coaches came away saying that D'Mauri was THE MOST IMPRESSIVE player at ANY of the camps on either side of the ball.
3. Golden wants football players and athletes that can possibly play more than one psotion. They lined up D'Mauri at WR and DB and according to Da Skreetz he DOMINATED the other top talent there on BOTH sides of the ball all day long.
I'm jus sayin...

Wow, Mike Mayock doesn't have Spence in the top 5 LB's. Surprised. I usually agree with 95% of what he says

"I'm guessing Boise State's QB wasn't highly touted coming out of highschool but I have no idea.
Posted by: TheWhat | January 26, 2012 at 04:34 PM"
He was generally a consensus top 25 type of player at his position when you aggregate his various service rankings. Which was a lot higher than the guys who preceded him in Boise so you could say the Fiesta Bowl hook and ladder payed dividends on the recruiting trail for them.

I know ohio but i am delusional holding out hope, goldman and how could start day 1

Montreal cane you are right about not bashing recruits. I didn't mean to bash any players and if I did I was wrong. I think we do forget that these are 17 and 18 year old kids making probably the biggest decision of their young lives. Best of luck to all of them
