Sometimes it just becomes so very obvious that some people really know what they are talking about.
When Florida born and raised rock icon Tom Petty wrote the words to this classic song he clearly knew what he was talking about:
"The waiting is the hardest part,
Every day you get one more yard,
You take take it on faith, you take it to the heart,
Yeah the w-a-i-t-i-n-g is the hardest part.
And never did those words ring any truer than today, as college football fans all across these great United States sit and wait for some news, any news, on this Sunday just two days before the annual ritual known as National Signing Day.
This coming Wednesday morning fans will be glued to their televisions and their computers as they scour every ESPN channel and the entire Internet for the latest up-to-date information about which highly sought after high school football players have signed official letters of intent with their teams.
University of Miami fans will be no different than those from Florida State, USC, Alabama, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, LSU, Oregon or Ohio State as they wait, patiently, no make that anxiously, to hear about the boat-load of new talent that is supposed to arrive soon at their respective schools.
This year Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden is desperately seeking a huge infusion of new talent in Coral Gables after his first season with the former coach's players did not produce the results on the field that he or UM fans might have hoped for.
Golden is expected to sign as many at 34 players at UM in this recruiting class: nine early entries that are already on campus and will count against last year's total and the maximum of 25 recruits for the 2012 class.
When you calculate the possible influx of 34 new players on an 85 man roster that is a whopping 40% turnover of players on the UM team in just one year! Golden must hope that this group takes a huge step forward for the Hurricanes football team that has seriously struggled in recent years.
Based on their current verbal commitments the Hurricanes have already been projected to have a top 10 ranked recruiting class - because of both the quantity and quality of players expected to sign - by ESPN, Scout and Rivals.
Still nobody can predict what might happen on National Signing Day, when it all becomes official when the formal Letters of Intent begin to arrive at the Hecht Athletic Center in Coral Gables.
Until then we wait.
And Tom Petty knew what he was talking about when he wrote these lyrics:
Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part...
Hassan...is Carroll even allowed to go back and forth with Howards mom...i would think that is the same as talking about a recruit publicly
Posted by: UMike | January 30, 2012 at 09:06 AM
I am not even sure, I know it was before the dead period and it is his mom and facebook and twitter i think the NCAA has not totally figured out how to regulate yet.

UMike and Hassan, I believe he can say whatever he wants to TH's mom, as long as it's not during the dead period, and he doesn't publicly mention TH's name.

I bet the FSU coaches told Northrup to wait, stay committed then switch on signing day. Good press for FSU and leaves Miami in a bind
Posted by: UMike | January 30, 2012 at 09:33 AM
Look at U now, a conspracy theorist are U? LOL
I understand your disdain for the nasty recruiting game and Northrup's tactics but do NOT let your personal feelings get in the way. And don;t be sure he is "gone".
Could he be? Sure. Is he? Not so fast!
Posted by: SOUP | January 30, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Let Northrup leave and lets pick up JH Clemons thats a big fast LB!!! Like golden said if your looking were looking and herb waters got that memo and solidified his commitment.

Marvin Bracy just ran the WORLD's Fastest indoor 55m this year. a 6.08
For those counting the WR is 55 meters -- Obadele Thompson, Barbados, 5.99, Feb. 22, 1997
FSU kiss him good bye, he has some serious wheels, when he runs a SUB 9.9 this summer at the Olympic trials he will probably go pro.

Nice article on canes recruiting

That's not a bad selling point by Muschamp IF He's using it.
Posted by: CaneRock | January 30, 2012 at 10:36 AM
Acording to some who claim to know what's up Muschamp is using a LOT more than just the "competition" angle to get TH to UF.
It will be an interesting decision for TH that UM fans will have to understand either way come NSD.

I hear ya' SOUP, but I'm not going there.
Not when we're living in a "glass house" ourselves...
Posted by: CaneRock | January 30, 2012 at 10:51 AM
TH seems like a bright kid who will see that if a coach is bad mouthing or negative recruiting another institution it will turn him off, and if Muschump is doing that then i expect to see TH become a cane because i can almost guarantee you that Golden does not do that.
Posted by: UpNorthCane | January 30, 2012 at 10:58 AM
The NCAA rule on contact is that, if the recruit or family member contacts the coaches first...nothing matters...dead period, quiet period, etc., ...the kids can contact the coaches at any time and the coaches are allowed to respond...the schools are not allowed to initiate contact during proscribed periods...

Everyone says FSU is out os SHIPS so unless someone decommits or they oversign they are onyl expecting their current commits to sign, no news for them on NSD.
We will have about 33 commits we need to RS 20 of them. We need to have about 20 RS Senior's on this team like the old days. You get a 5 year cycle and not a 3 and 4 year like now with 6 Juniors leaving early lol. Your team is way better depth and talent wise when you have 3rd year players replacing 4th and 5th year guys instead of freshman and soph replacing Jr's.
Posted by: Hassan | January 30, 2012 at 11:34 AM
SOo if FSWHO is out of spots then the talk of Goldman going their is all b.s...... its going to be an intense 3 days in the world of college football and most importantly in the world of cane bloggers loll

I'm sure FSWho isn't out of ships, especially of they have a big commit.
Just like UM doesn't only have 1 spot left if Hamilton, Howard, etc all want to sign

Who is FIU Top recruit??? Can we still make a move or it's too late??? Mario is leaving FIU for Rutgers.
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | January 30, 2012 at 12:26 PM
Anyone else "enjoying" the torture of the last few days?
Hamilton supposedly loved UM, we have a shot. If Cristobal takes the Rutgers job (and I trust you, Monty:)), I think he stays.
Posted by: j.w. | January 30, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Papa Cane - LB Josh Harvey Clemons: 1. He had a great time. 2. Bonded with Coach Barrow 3. Loves UM's history with NFL. I still say UGA & UF.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 30, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Cristobal to Rutgers most likely means we don't get Hamilton. I said 75% earlier, now that's around 35%.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 30, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Yup I agree.
Hoping we land another out-of-nowhere Georgia guy like Storm Johnson was when we landed him. (JHC)
And Howard/Young of course!

Those Bad Boys of Detroit and Bird's Celtics would be a machine in any era, esp. this one
My belief is that during #23's era, the teams were a lot better, tougher, could actually shoot and got away with a hell of a lot less traveling (besides Patrick Ewing taking 10 steps)
Too much of the And1 type crap now in the NBA .. completely has turned me off to it
I'll take college hoops all day long over watching an NBA game
Posted by: Six | January 30, 2012 at 01:05 PM
UiF's defense is a hell of a lot better than the Canes defense
That's what Muschamp can sell legitimately
That, and competing in the SEC, which is basically NFL Lite on Saturdays
Great college atmosphere up at The Puddle, stadium actually moves a little and is loud as hell
Posted by: Six | January 30, 2012 at 01:09 PM
My opinion: Don't be surprised if Michael Barrow is offered and/or takes the FIU job.
No inside info, just speculation. Can see it happening.

I know I am just hoping that is my goal. maybe in a couple years if sanctions are light. Right now Golden is trying to find guys who will work and can play right away because he knows Shannon's boys are soft and he needs difference makers. So if we bring 33 we will be lucky to RS 10. Kinda sad.
I would say our RS list will look like this
Dewey
Crow
Thompson-if he sticks to FB
Davis- small and not all DB's will play
Hamilton- if he is not healed
Terry- needs to bulk up
Gadbois- needs coaching
Holifield- one 1 year of FB
Jones- only 2 years of FB
Dorch- 168 needs to get stronger
Of these guys 3 are EE's 2 QB's and a OT that needs to work on his technique (tackle is a hard position to adjust to college speed)
Posted by: Hassan | January 30, 2012 at 01:33 PM
More Importantly Any Word on TRANSFERS who is leaving and not who should be leaving but real grumblings about who is leaving thtz where the extra schollys really come in unless Golden is Giving walking passes and kids dont knw it or dont want it and he forces them out anyway..can he do that?

RCCF- won't hear anything about transfers until after spring practice. They are all enrolled in classes as far as we know, so they aren't leaving mid-semester. But the reports of mass transfers seem to be erroneous.

Crawford says "Miami was always in his heart"
Crawford says he felt like he was going to make the switch shortly after head coach Al Golden visited him at school last week and extended an offer.
"Growing up here in Florida you always heard about Miami," Crawford said. "You know about the swag and attitude that goes with playing for 'The U'."
This is what happens when you have a REAL H.C. who actually has a plan and executes the plan, unlike some coaches who just sit around and wait for the MNW Fairy to drop off a player without looking at film or evaluating.

Scholarships are renewed each year. The school has the right not to offer any player for the upcoming year.
Most of the time the coach just tells them that they don't fit into the school's plans and the generally transfer to another school...FCS schools if they want to play right away.
Some schools do it right...but some decide to suspend kids or kick them off the team for "violation of team rules" or "academic issues...so the school doesn't take the heat. Oklahoma just did it to three kids and the SEC is notorious for doing it...
