The 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game presented by American Family Insurance is slated for Jan. 5, 2012, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., and will be televised on ESPN.
The fifth-annual Under Armour All-America Game presented by American Family Insurance is a competition spotlighting the nation’s top high school seniors. The 2011 NFL Draft was the first time Under Armour All-America alumni who competed in the inaugural 2008 game were eligible to be drafted.
Selections included two first-round NFL picks Julio Jones and A.J. Green, as well as second-round selections Da’Quan Bowers and Brandon Harris. Additional notable alumni include current college standouts USC’s Matt Barkley, Auburn’s Michael Dyer, Oklahoma’s Landry Jones and Alabama’s Trent Richardson.
Former NFL head coaches Herm Edwards and Steve Mariucci will lead the nation’s top high school seniors in the 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game.
Edwards will serve as head coach of Team Blur (White Team), while Mariucci will coach Team Highlight (Black Team). Both coaching staffs, selected by ESPN Scouts, Inc., will consist of former NFL coaches acting as offensive and defensive coordinators. The rosters will feature the nation’s top high school football prospects, according to the ESPNU 150 player rankings.
Currently an NFL analyst for ESPN, Edwards served as head coach of the New York Jets (2001-05) and Kansas City Chiefs (2006-08). Edwards led the Jets to three playoff appearances (2001-02, 2004) and one division title (2002) before leading the Chiefs to the playoffs in 2006. In his 10-year playing career, Edwards spent nine seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, highlighted by an appearance in Super Bowl XV. His 33 interceptions in an Eagles uniform leave him one shy of the franchise record.
“It’s truly an honor to be coaching in the Under Armour All-America Game,” Edwards said. “I can’t wait to get to Orlando and begin working with all of these great young players.”
Mariucci is the former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (1997-2002) and the Detroit Lions (2003-05). In Mariucci’s six years with the 49ers, he led them to four playoff appearances, two first-place finishes in the NFC West and in 1997, his team marched all the way to the NFC Championship Game. Mariucci finished his coaching career with a record of 72-67.
“After coaching the game last year, I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the quality of the players. It is a thrill to be invited back!” Mariucci said. “To me, this game is one of the highlights of this football season at any level – high school, college or professional.”
Of the more than 90 players selected by ESPN Scouts, Inc. to participate in the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game, 10 are ranked among the Top 15 of the ESPNU 150, including: No. 1 Mario Edwards (Denton Ryan HS, Texas); No. 2 Eddie Goldman (Collegiate Academy, Washington D.C.); No. 4 Noah Spence (Bishop McDevitt HS, Pa.); No. 5 Johnathan Gray (Aledo HS, Texas.); No. 6 Keith Marshall (Millbrook HS, N.C.); No. 7 Landon Collins (Dutchtown HS, La.); No. 9 Eddie Williams (Arnold HS, Fla.); No. 11 Jameis Winston (Hueytown HS, Ala.); No. 13 Chris Casher (Davidson HS, Ala.); and No. 14 Malcom Brown (Brenham HS, Texas).

Posted by: Willie Will in Nashville | January 02, 2012 at 02:07 PM
WW I have been dealing with that all weekend (FSU vs ND) and now this (FU vs Suckeyes). I think Floridah will win, but would rather see OSU win.

Nashville...Good question. The underdog? The one U bet on? The one your team didn't play and lose to?

What do u guys think about Jeff Godfrey of Ucf wanting 2 transfer 2 the U? Would be nice if he wouldn't have 2 sit out, then he could come in & compete 4 the starting qb spot since he does have more experience & wins than Morris & Williams combined.Godfrey also said he would be willing 2 change positions if he had 2.

Papa Cane - 5 star OL Avery Young will visit UM the weekend of Jan 20th. All UM coaches on him.

Great stuff Ohio. Goldman, Leonard Williams, Bush, Mccord & Darius Hamilton would take this class & the Canes 2 new heights. Keep our fingers crossed.

But at least things are picking up with leonard williams, hamilton, and young.....

Just what I've heard, nothing is for sure till signing day, but I'm hearing Bama "won" him over. That's as much as I'll say. If rumors are true, we don't want his type, tbh
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 02, 2012 at 11:24 PM
I cnt believe that their hasnt been an individual who hasnt been able to capture hard evidence or video evidence of SEC teams "winning" over kids maybe this is my calling as a private investigator lolll....

Good bowl games yesterday - Stanford and Okie State and Wisconsin and Oregon. the Ducks players don't look big - but they play hard and fast. So glad the "jump around" team lost - LOL. I wish we would get back to playing good football like that again
Posted by: CGNC | January 03, 2012 at 10:05 AM
CGNC...yes, it would be great for UM to play exciting, agressive, attacking football again like any of the four teams you mentioned.
Gotta have a GREAT QB to do that.
None of the four teams can play defense though. LOL
Posted by: SOUP | January 03, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Watching 2001 nat'l championship vs Nebraska. They put an interesting stat up. Canes had 49 offensive TD's. Average drive time - 2:09. WOW!
I miss that team...

All Jon Bastian, who is at the UAAA practice today:
UM QB Commit Preston Dewey talks about Jedd Fisch, enrolling early and more on CaneInsider.com bit.ly/uDCAvZ
Avery Young is a specimen.
Eddie Goldman is ready for college (6'4, 307)
UM commit QB Preston Dewey hasn't been taking many snap at the UA practice today.
Duke Johnson with a nice catch in traffic. You come to expect him to ball out every time he plays.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Jamie Newberg - Chad Kelly hits Duke Johnson who's wide open in a throwback for score
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Jon Bastian - Amari Cooper looks like the best route runner here constantly getting separation except when he goes against Ronald Darby.
Sidenote of mine: He's committed to Bama, but UM is still recruiting Cooper EXTREMELY hard. Possible flip. Not very likely, but possible.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 12:55 PM
None of the four teams can play defense though. LOL
Posted by: SOUP | January 03, 2012 at 10:43 AM
True, but made the games fun to watch. I enjoyed those games more than the Bama - LSU defensive struggle (maybe because I enjoy watching games with teams non-SEC) LOL!
Posted by: CGNC | January 03, 2012 at 01:02 PM
absolutely hate that we aren't going to land Cooper. crying shame that we're letting bama pick our pocket. Without sanctions looming i don't think this happens however.

Expect LB James Burgess to commit to Louisville today during the Semper Fi Fidelis AA Bowl. Heard UM moved on weeks ago.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 02:19 PM
I hear you people have been saying that, but idk i got a feeling Brown turned the corner and got back on with the coaches at UM. Theres no problem with being prideful and wanting players who are loyal but we also can't let go of ballers like Brown who are body ready to step in....
Posted by: UpNorthCane | January 03, 2012 at 02:21 PM
I just don't get how a son of a former UM great chooses against coming here.

Papa Cane - Annoucements Tonite: Semper Fidelis AA Bowl 6 p.m. CBS Sports Network. V. Ascolese, R. Brodie, J. Burgess, G. Garmon, T. Powell, D. Thompson
Update on RB Greg Garmon: Based on what several sources are saying, I believe that he is going to pick Iowa tonight. Hope that I am wrong.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 02:24 PM
UpNorth and Dades - Don't get me wrong, I wish both would come to UM. Would take either or both of them, tbh. Just don't think it happens. I've been wrong before and will be again, I'm sure.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 02:26 PM
ohio if you get a chance ask papa cane what his thoughts are on Brown unless you already know his answer on it....
My thing is are we gonna land or strike out on leonard Williams, Goldman, Deon Bush, Tracy howard, Avery young.
This recruiting stuff is intense man and all i can say is damnnn the $EC

UPNorth...we could get Bush I think? ;-)
Posted by: SOUP | January 03, 2012 at 02:34 PM
Robert Turbin is good...I mean REALLY good. I saw on nationally televised game of Utah State this year and he ran like a man possessed. Had no choice but to keep tabs on him since then and lemme tell u, if he doesn't go 1st round, whoever gets him would be a steal. Big, FREAKY strength, and deceptively quick. Guy is a complete back. He's a Cali kid, not sure how he didn't end up a Trojan or somethin else...remember the name...ROBERT TURBIN...

Well the fact that your saying yes to Darius Hamilton is promising he would be an incredible get for the dline him and chikillo and the rest of thsoe guys will prove to be players.
what makes you think Darius Hamilton is a yes? just want to hear what you got to say.

Either we saw something we didn't like or had plans w/ a another LB recruit, hell or maybe we stand one of these ends up next year. But if it was on us...I'm fine with it.

I agree man the kid is def an imposing athlete, and your right last officials are big when it comes to making a player committ or not. I wonder what Al Golden has in store for those two weekends he better come up with something out of this world.
Another intriguing thing is who in the world are the silent committs? HMMMMM

UpNorth, Papa says Keith Brown to Louisville. He's not 100% sure, however.

Bush is minor maybe.
Howard: NO-Way FSu or Gators
Goldman: Waited WAY to late (ALA)
Williams: NO-Way
McCord: Minor maybe
Young: Gators
Hamilton: just like the last several years when we get these big timers to come the weekend before signing day, it's just to get away from the cold.
Brown: Maybe
None of the above do I feel good about. Except for a couple of those guys we just didn't go after them to hard in the beginning. Remember Al said he didn't like Cadillacs so it's VWs for us, for the most part.
As far as Burgess goes, we don't need anymore 6'0 200 lbs LBS. Let Louisville have our cast offs.

We're due for some good news with these recruits who are still unecided. Don't know who, don't know when, but I'm betting Golden gets 2 to commit at these all-star games.
And as everyone else already said- great work Ohio, soup, and everyone else who is keeping the rest of us informed with recruiting.

WURD ON DA SKREETZ IZ...
1. Yoooo, all anyone wants to hit up is the recruiting lol. So ill guess your site is getting blasted about it lol. Peeps need to realize at this point recruiting is just a game ballahs use for trips. 99.9% already got that mind made up. Cant be down on any boi that takes visits. Its always on point to go somewhere to visit that isnt about game mode flow.
2. This staff is going after certain type of playahs, there will be no exceptions made for any boi. Some fans as well as this f n Miami media and some sites are on this grade flow with ballahs. All ill say about that is consider the source cause all aint what it seems on that. It aint always grades.
3. Once peeps get used to OL Flowers they will fall in love with boi. Great kid with a Miami attitude. That fool dont mess around. As Figs said when he came to the gym, that boi is f n country strong. Not sure what the f that means lol I just know boi is the baddest OL ive seen come in, in a very long time.

Bye bye Brandon Washington, hello Ereck Flowers.
Love me some country strong boys!
Skreetz, being from the country (Ohio) I'll say this. Country strong is a deceptive strength. Looks cannot account for anywhere near the amount of weight (or hay bails lol) a person can lift.
