The 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game presented by American Family Insurance is slated for Jan. 5, 2012, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., and will be televised on ESPN.
The fifth-annual Under Armour All-America Game presented by American Family Insurance is a competition spotlighting the nation’s top high school seniors. The 2011 NFL Draft was the first time Under Armour All-America alumni who competed in the inaugural 2008 game were eligible to be drafted.
Selections included two first-round NFL picks Julio Jones and A.J. Green, as well as second-round selections Da’Quan Bowers and Brandon Harris. Additional notable alumni include current college standouts USC’s Matt Barkley, Auburn’s Michael Dyer, Oklahoma’s Landry Jones and Alabama’s Trent Richardson.
Former NFL head coaches Herm Edwards and Steve Mariucci will lead the nation’s top high school seniors in the 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game.
Edwards will serve as head coach of Team Blur (White Team), while Mariucci will coach Team Highlight (Black Team). Both coaching staffs, selected by ESPN Scouts, Inc., will consist of former NFL coaches acting as offensive and defensive coordinators. The rosters will feature the nation’s top high school football prospects, according to the ESPNU 150 player rankings.
Currently an NFL analyst for ESPN, Edwards served as head coach of the New York Jets (2001-05) and Kansas City Chiefs (2006-08). Edwards led the Jets to three playoff appearances (2001-02, 2004) and one division title (2002) before leading the Chiefs to the playoffs in 2006. In his 10-year playing career, Edwards spent nine seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, highlighted by an appearance in Super Bowl XV. His 33 interceptions in an Eagles uniform leave him one shy of the franchise record.
“It’s truly an honor to be coaching in the Under Armour All-America Game,” Edwards said. “I can’t wait to get to Orlando and begin working with all of these great young players.”
Mariucci is the former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (1997-2002) and the Detroit Lions (2003-05). In Mariucci’s six years with the 49ers, he led them to four playoff appearances, two first-place finishes in the NFC West and in 1997, his team marched all the way to the NFC Championship Game. Mariucci finished his coaching career with a record of 72-67.
“After coaching the game last year, I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the quality of the players. It is a thrill to be invited back!” Mariucci said. “To me, this game is one of the highlights of this football season at any level – high school, college or professional.”
Of the more than 90 players selected by ESPN Scouts, Inc. to participate in the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game, 10 are ranked among the Top 15 of the ESPNU 150, including: No. 1 Mario Edwards (Denton Ryan HS, Texas); No. 2 Eddie Goldman (Collegiate Academy, Washington D.C.); No. 4 Noah Spence (Bishop McDevitt HS, Pa.); No. 5 Johnathan Gray (Aledo HS, Texas.); No. 6 Keith Marshall (Millbrook HS, N.C.); No. 7 Landon Collins (Dutchtown HS, La.); No. 9 Eddie Williams (Arnold HS, Fla.); No. 11 Jameis Winston (Hueytown HS, Ala.); No. 13 Chris Casher (Davidson HS, Ala.); and No. 14 Malcom Brown (Brenham HS, Texas).

soo Keith Browns brother remains committed to Illinois well then i will go ahead and say welcome Keith brown to the U i have a gut feeling this kid cant possibly go to louisville, not with duke and flowers at the U

Hope U are right, UpNorth
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 04:49 PM
Well whomever we get these last few weeks, I hope they are difference makers. I'd like to see Brown come back into the fold and one big time D-Lineman, One big time WR & one big time DB, then I'll be happy. I see maybe 6 or 7 of these guys we have now that can play next year, of course more will have to play whether they're ready or not and that's what sux.

We get lambasted and thrown under the microscope for some weasel picking up bowling tabs while SEC teams get of scott free for straight up buying players w/hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Yeah that sounds about right...

As a college football player U spend 12 Saturdays a year playing football.
Every other day you spend it doing something else somewhere else.
Now let's see I can spend four years of my life somewhere in Iowa or somewhere in South Florida.
Yeah, I'm going to Iowa too.
Good luck young man!

Best coach available that would actually take that job. Not a position many qualified people want.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 03, 2012 at 11:19 PM
I agree with da skreetz on Flowers this kid is a great kid, his family was really nice people. He is a legit 6'6 320 and growing. He is a really good tackle with good feet and good balance. A lil college level weight room and coaching with him coming in early he can challege for a starting spot or provide depth.
Maybe he can be a good RT and move Felicano inside to his guard position. ( would help him hear the calls and not jump offsides)
My Oline based on talent would be
LT Sentrel
LG Linder
C Mcdermott
RG Felicano
RT Flowers/Bunche
I think Barton is probably a really talented athlete and he could start to provide depth this next year and maybe 2013 get some burn as guys graduate. Who knows who will start right now but I like RS our other freshman lineman, I think Wheeler can Push Felicano as he is mistake prone but obviously a better athlete as he was able to play tackle all year for us.

I:m starting to think football recruiting is like shopping for a lot of women. Each dress (shoe, accessory), each new player has the possibility to transform the person or team. Of course, what looks good in the mirror or the rankings or highlight videos doesn't always translate into the real world. You could wind up looking fat, slow or un-endowed with talent of any kind.

Papa Cane - Recruiting Update: Expect 4-Star LB Keith Brown to sign with Louisville. He recently decommitted from Illinois. Best of luck.
LB James Burgess' Commitment to Louisville: As previously reported, he committed to UL. UM stopped recruiting him weeks ago - Had no offer.

One issue is when a EE like Burgess decommits in January it is awfully hard to find another guy that late in the game willing to flip, or a decent prospect that is able to be a EE that has not commited someplace in January.
Burgess was a UM commit I doubt we would stop recruiting him because we "knew" he was going to Loserville? I know his coach said he will be a good one, and he might but I would love to replace him with a good one that is bigger. these 200 lb LB's are killin me.
Where does NC get all ther defensive players? Not all of their NFL studs the past few years was highly recruited. But nearly all of them was exceptional athletes.
Posted by: Hassan | January 04, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Chickillo at the UAAA practice. Hope he's recruiting some kids!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 10:28 AM
Hassan,
1. UM stopped recruiting him back in the middle or beginning of December. That's a fact. I don't know exact reasons, I'm only speculating on that part.
2. Golden doesn't want guys that will be 200 lbs a year or 2 from now, from what I gather. Meaning they don't have the frame to add much weight from being close to 200 lbs as seniors. Terry, for example, is 6'3 and has plenty of room to add a good bit of muscle mass/weight.
3. No idea where NC gets their athletes. Looking at their rosters, they get their LB's from every where. NC, VA, FL, CA, PA, GA.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Good stuff ohio cane I agree.
We need to hire Butch as a consultant lol
Terry seems like he can be a beast. he has a motor he is 205 I can not imagine how good he can be at 235ish.
Who do you expect to make the biggest gains/improvements in the weight room this spring/summer?
I would say
1.Chick- He stated and has has the genes and work ethic to do it.
2. Paul- He needs to be bigger to compete for the MLB spot.
3. Gadboius is a EE and looks to have good genes to be a weight room monster.
4. Perryman- Size is the only thing he really lacked, another 10-15 lbs will make him a London Fletcher
5. Clements- He seems to be a worker and he can be alot harder to take off the field at 210 then 190.

Posted by: Hassan | January 04, 2012 at 10:41 AM

I'd have to list Flowers as #1 just judging by what Skreetz has said about him.
I agree with all of those 5 tho. I would list Perryman at #3 behind Chickillo at #2 tho. He's a very hard worker.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 10:45 AM
^^ Oh, also list Clive Walford in there too. This kid LOVES the weight room.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Ohio,
I know Golden knows what he's doing and I like the fact that he wants bigger, faster, stronger Lb's and as a whole he knows this team needs to be stronger but I constantly keep up with recruiting, visiting diffferent sites as well as other team sites and I just don't see who we can reel in, other than maybe Bush and Brown, that can top this class off. I'd love to say yeah, we got Howard, Bush & Goldman in the bag but to me until we get clear of whatever sanctions are coming our way, it's going to be tough to consistently real in the big time difference makers we sorely need. I know Golden is the man for the job! Poor fella, he's been up against a brick wall since he's been here. I'm sure he's saying to himself, "when am I going to catch a break"! I believe if this coaching staff stays together they can do some great things here.
Posted by: herbieibis | January 04, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Don't forget there is at least one silent commit that those sites may say are committed elsewhere. ;-)
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 11:45 AM
We have been getting pushed around on defense way too much over the past few seasons to continue signing undersized LB's and DE's. When Sean Spence is the best LB you have on the roster that just flat out isnt going to get it done. As much as I loved what he brought on D, we need guys that can come in and be physically ready to shed blocks.

Good afternoon Canestas...... Idk if any of you have heard about Mike davis kid acting like a str8t up baby, having hissy fits and pouting becuase he wasnt given the his high school number at the army all american game... its pathetic and to think at one point we wouldve liked him at the U.....

UpNorth, I read that. He wasn't the only one.
Wanna know what Dewey said? "I don't care if they give me #99 as long as I get to play".
My kinda kid.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 12:18 PM
Yea i know he wsnt the only one but still that sh** is ridiculous Ohio... And i agree someone like Dewey is someone who i respect thats the attitude im looking for and all though we had some bad boys back in the days and some ballers for the most part they played their role were humble and played lights out.
Posted by: UpNorthCane | January 04, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Yeah, our defense has been no guts no glory for to long. Down with 6' 220 lbs. Our new prerequisits for incoming players:
Lb: 6'2 215 4.6
DE: 6'3 230 4.7
Dt: 6'3 275 4.9
Db: 5'10 180 4.5
You add weight to those totals after 3 years and keep the speed up and we should be where we need to be.

Re: Keith Brown. I'm hearing Burgess said that him and "another top LB" are headed to Louisville to make it "Linebackerville".
I don't know who else that could be but KB.
Regardless, we'll find out Saturday. Rumor is that Duke has been recruiting him HARD. The only way he commits to Miami is if Duke got in his ear enough, IMO.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 01:36 PM
Jon Bastian:
"Since there isn't a whole lot of good news that I gathered for today's notes, I want to state that anything can happen until signing day. We are good, this is just where these kids are at today.
----Defensive tackles Eddie Goldman and Leonard Williams, who are both considering Miami, are not ‘Cane locks by far. The coaching staff will be looking for another D-Tackle to bring in.
--Top DT Eddie Goldman (Washington D.C. Collegiate Academy) has a top 7 at this point and time; Maryland, Auburn, Clemson, Alabama, Miami, Florida State and Cal.
-- WR and Alabama commit Amari Cooper (Miami (Fla.) Northwestern) told me that the Miami coaching staff said they would recruit him till the day he leaves for Alabama, which is January 9th. He followed that up by saying he had a good visit, but every visit is good. Alabama is where he is going. The coaches have 5 days to change his mind, but the vibe I got from him is he doesn’t have any interest of changing his commitment.
--Saftey PJ Williams (Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard) shot down the rumors that he will be a ‘Cane yesterday when I talked to him. He had a good visit and that’s about it. He is looking forward to FSU and unless something drastic happens, we will not get him.
--S Lucas Thompson (Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange) is set to make his decision on national television during the UA game. While he would like to pick Miami, he may not have that option anymore. Look for him to go to ECU.
--With LB James Burgess (Homestead, Fla.) going to Louisville (he announced at the All-Star game last night), it leaves another spot open for the ‘Canes. For linebackers, that leaves Josh Witt, Reggie Northrup, Gabriel Terry (Hybrid) and Raphael Kirby.
--Offensive tackle Avery Young (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) will be visiting Miami but has a solid top three, Florida, Georgia and Auburn. The coaching staff is recruiting him hard, but it might be too late."
Take all of that with a grain of salt...

1. Yes, IF he can gain a good bit of weight, and quickly.
2. I'm hearing Herb is all Cane, so I'm saying he sticks.
3. I haven't seen Jacob Ford, but I'm about to look him up as this is the 3rd time I've read about him in the past couple days.

Jelani is being recruited strictly as a DE, he was promised that, Just like Bailey was promised a shot at MLB, but of course his body did not agree with his plan and he knew can could not play 280lbs at MLB. I think Hamilton will be 270 soon so He can be a 3-4 guy or possibly be a 3 technique inside in passing situations. I think the staff really tries to recruit guys are are versitile so we can be "multiple"

Reminds me of Streeter, only with better routes. Interesting.

Ohio the kid sure is an interesting prospect... I heard his name a lil while ago and then not much since then but i like his game though he seems to like the vertical stuff but also can make something short a long play ......

Exactly.
Think of guys that can play WR AND CB, or RB AND LB/S. Example: Dallas Crawford.
These are guys they want. More so than a 5-star prima-donna.

All i want for this year or the next year is a playmaking safety, a playmaking dt, and a playmaking CB.......

Well they better be looking under some dam rock to find another D. Tackle, cause I don't see Goldman & Williams In my crystal ball.
Posted by: herbieibis | January 04, 2012 at 03:03 PM
Goldman is a no. Williams is possible. I can't say any more than that regarding it. I can say, however, Golden knows and/or has what he needs.

I just read that Dewey may not play because of a hip flexor injury.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 04, 2012 at 9:20 AM
HE DID NOT PRACTICE TODAY.
Angelo Jean-Louis may not play either because of a hamstring strain.

HE PRACTICED AND WAS AT FULL SPEED.

A PLAY-MAKING QB WOULD BE NICE TOO!

I will also say this... Canes fans will be very happy once the LOI's start rolling in.
Of course, as always, there will be a kid or 3 that ppl say "Oh, we should've gotten him! We didn't do this, or we didn't do that!", but overall this will be a great class.

Just got back from Disney and the UAAA practice. Great facility, great weather and a great day for FOOTBALL.
Met the Chickillos, nice folks, got a photo. They were recruiting HARD.
