College football fans the moment you have ALL been waiting for has finally arrived: Today is National Signing Day 2012!
The recruiting process is over, scholarship offers have been made and now it is time for things to get serious and for the young and talented high school athletes to sign on the dotted line.
Beginning this morning at 7 AM high school football players from all across the Country will begin faxing in their official Letters Of Intent (LOI) to the university that they have chosen to attend.
At the University of Miami like at any other of the 120 or so major college football programs across the United States the scene will repeat itself over and over again as the LOIs are received via fax (do fax machines really still exist?).
The action will be fast and furious early in the morning and throughout the day at the beautiful Hecht Athletic Center in lovely Coral Gables, Florida.
Once the LOI is received and verified by the UM coaches and compliance department then that recruit will be formally announced by UM first and then by media outlets and blogs like Canespace.
So stay tuned to Canespace throughout the day for the latest breaking news about surprise recruits and even some near misses in the 2012 recruiting game.

According to Da Skreetz D'Mauri Jones one of the MOST underrated players in this year's class.
He was a standout at Al Golden's football camps on BOTH sides of the ball but will play WR as he did in HS at UM.

Canesport saying Darius Hamilton has signed his paperwork for The "U"
Posted by: Randall McDade | February 01, 2012 at 07:59 AM

Randall, that's Jelani Hamilton, not Darius.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:02 AM
The Hurricanes can thank Greg Schiano for the addition of five-star DE prospect Darius Hamilton to this recruiting class. Hamilton was expected to choose either Rutgers or Florida, even saying publicly last week that was his final two. But he made a final trip to Miami the weekend before signing day and wound up signing with the Canes. Read on for this big news.
Irresponsible. Committed vs. signed?
Posted by: Randall McDade | February 01, 2012 at 08:03 AM
Randall, read previous post. Darius committed to Rutgers live last night. Jelani signed with UM.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:05 AM

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:07 AM
Hamilton's choice signifies the biggest recruiting coup in Rutgers history. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Bosco product is Rivals.com's 11th-ranked player in the class of 2012 and is the highest-rated prospect to pledge his commitment to the Scarlet Knights
Posted by: UMike | February 01, 2012 at 08:07 AM
That is pretty bad information on their part.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:14 AM
footballscoop.com says new Tampa Bay Head Coach Greg Schiano will interview Cleveland Browns' QB Coach Mark Whipple for the offensive coordinator job. Hmmm, reports are Schiano wants Butch Davis as his DC and now this. Seems like the HC just can't shake the Miami pipeline.

When is Duke Johnson's decision? :)
Posted by: LB | February 01, 2012 at 08:14 AM
I don't know exactly, LB. I sure do wanna see him pick from 3 Canes hats lol
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:15 AM
Jontavious Carter- "I'm really training my mind right now mentally to get ready for college, because I know when I come in it'll be business," Carter said.
Duke Johnson- "I grew up a big fan of Miami," Johnson said. "I always wanted to go there. The majority of my family wants me to go to Miami. Every time they see me they throw up the U sign and smile, and I smile right along with them."
Duke deserves 2- "I could see myself starting, but that all depends on if I stay healthy and how much I want it," Johnson said. "Me, I want it a lot. I'll do whatever it takes."
Raf Kirby- "Miami, it's just such a great school, great tradition," Kirby said. "I'm looking to get the U back to where it needs to be."
David Thompson- "I grew up bleeding green and orange; that's my wardrobe practically," Thompson said.
Robert Lockhart- "I want to get on the field right away," he said, "make big-time plays and be All-ACC First Team as a freshman."
Tyriq McCord- ""I already told coach Jethro Franklin - Chick (Anthony Chickillo) had six sacks last year as a true freshman, so I told him I'm going to get seven," McCord said. "That's the goal already. I'll help my team, try to contribute, help get us to a BCS bowl game and hopefully on the national championship scene."
Posted by: Hassan | February 01, 2012 at 08:17 AM
Terry "I've always been a Hurricane at heart and coach (Al) Golden told me that he was trying to get the program back to playing for national championships again," Terry said. "He told me they will develop me as a player and work hard to see that I have success. Hard work is not a problem for me."
Wellington (FL) Palm Beach Central High coach Rod Harris says of Terry that "He is an outstanding football player. He has prototype size for an outside linebacker and he runs a 4.5. He's relentless on the field, has a high motor. The kid does not stop going after people on the football field."

#WelcomeToTheU: Danny Isadora
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:20 AM
Crawford
We moved him to corner because we didn't have anyone else - he was primarily an offensive guy his first three years here," Plant High DB coach Matt Johnson said. "He has very fluid hips so that's why we moved him to corner. And obviously anytime you get a natural athlete it's a bonus as a coach. With Antonio I was able to get really specific with technique. He was more comfortable as a man corner than he was as a zone cover corner. He liked being in that tight space and be able to make contact off the line."

Posted by: 86Cane | February 01, 2012 at 08:25 AM
Dilliard
"He did a lot of really good things for us, is real good in short yardage," Venice (FL) High coach John Peacock said. "He's a big back that runs well, also can catch the ball out of the backfield. I can see him carrying 235 pounds easy - he fluctuated from 205-212 with us."
Posted by: Hassan | February 01, 2012 at 08:25 AM
Did I read that Duke will be wearing #2. That in itself would tell me that Howard is coming and getting his #3.

Manny is trying to find out what color Howard is wearing, see if theres any clues lol
Posted by: UMike | February 01, 2012 at 08:26 AM
Davis' high school coach, Chevas Clements, expects great things from the cornerback at UM.
"He's a great athlete," Clements said. "I like his chances of coming in and starting - Miami is low in numbers at DB. And he's athletic enough. If he can get in and learn the playbook and learn the system he'll be able to play very early in his career."
Posted by: Hassan | February 01, 2012 at 08:27 AM
a day like today will take the sting from last year away quickly

Moore
Former Cane lineman) Andrew Williams came out of our program and Earl is one of the better ones we've had," said Tampa Hillsborough High coach Earl Garcia, who is in his 38th year coaching. "Earl has the tangibles and the intangibles, too. He reminds me of Moses McCray at Florida State. Earl's a little more flexible than Moses; Moses is probably a little stronger than Earl is at this point.
"Earl has a great motor, wants to be good. He likes the whole process, the lifting, is a very coachable kids. He'll be a great college player simply because he'll do everything coach (Al) Golden asks him to do. He'll be dependable as hell, will get his degree and won't ever be a moment of trouble."
There isn't much tackle depth at UM with Marcus Forston leaving to go pro early, and Moore hopes to make an early impact.
"(Forston leaving) will help me get on the field right away," Moore said. "My whole thing was coming in to work hard, fight for that starting position. That was always my plan regardless of him leaving or not. So that hasn't changed.
"Coaches have talked to me about it, telling me it's a good chance that I play right away. My main focus right now is to get at a good weight, get faster and stronger
