The bottom line and real difference between love and hate is so obvious.
When U win everbody loves you. When U lose nobody loves you.
Everybody complains about why we don't post more articles about UM men's and women's basketball.
Everybody says we should give them more attention and is upset about why and when we don't.
The reason is they have not won anything yet and nobody is sure that they ever will.
On Monday Night the UM men's team lost in embarrassing fashion at home to Minnesota and the #3 ranked UM women's team lost to #11 ranked Gonzaga on the road.
In case you were confused or just wondering, losing sucks.
Do you really need more of an explanation than that?
Next subject?
First.
Bad nite for 'Canes hoops.

And Reggie Johnson and Kenny Kadji want to go pro . . .
Where? Midway? Guam? Mongolia?
Posted by: 2002nemo | March 19, 2012 at 11:27 PM
I read over the weekend on truth and rumors on CNNSI that both were considering entering the NBA draft. Though a scout basically said neither would get drafted and both have to work on their games.(Kadji his shooting) Who the hell are giving these players advice in both football and basketball???

Miami has to change the culture of their athletics and bring in kids with different work ethics and attitudes. I know Golden is in the process and Coach L will do the same.

In other news ...
At the Sydney Olympics, 70,000 condoms were distributed throughout the village, but still another 20,000 had to be provided. At the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, officials provided 100,000 condoms (that's about 14 per athlete, or one per day), but still had to bring in more when supplies began to dwindle.

Answer...someone from another planet. Now change the culture and type of players you recruit...Coach L looks so depressed just like some of us...
Posted by: Montreal-Cane | March 20, 2012 at 04:13 AM
There's concern inside Miami that the Hurricanes might lose juniors Reggie Johnson and Kenny Kadji to the NBA draft, which would leave Miami without any high-quality big men. NBA draft analyst Chris Monter and an NBA scout said it's hardly certain that either would be drafted. "They're not as good as they think they are," the scout said. "Reggie would have to be a center; he's too slow to play power forward. Kadji shoots OK but doesn't rebound enough. He???s soft."

When do the next batch of freshmen show up on campus?
Posted by: LB | March 20, 2012 at 08:12 AM
I congrat Coach L a 20 win season in the first year considering the RAT really messed up the season and Reggie's knee and our Guard losing his brother and going into the tank mentally.
Keys to next season are similiar to the issues with our football team we have guys that don't work hard and think they are better then they are (Khaji, Johnson) we are a soft team mentally and physically and we need our youngers studs to grow and learn.
1. A UTough for the B-Ball team will help, our Big men do not rebound and look lethargic, our guards do not move their feet to play D they reach and get beat, Being in top phsycial condition.
2. Our big men have to come back in top form, Khaji has got to live in the gym and rebound better for a 6'10 guy. He is Rashard Lewis but a 3rd rate version at this point.
3. Guard play, on offense i see WAAAY to many bad shots jacked up early in the clock or when the play breaks down no one attacking the hoop. On Defense These guys have got to play position defense, they are not elite athletes with size so they have to use their heads and move their feet and make EFFORT.
I could go on and on but we can be good if we get everyone back in WAAAAY better condition so we can give 94 feet of hell and a better crowd would help. A Tournament game in your home stadium and NO ONE shows up is sad.

To my point
Coach L
Larranaga summed up with the season over that "This has been a fun year for us, my first year at Miami. But we know as a coaching staff, and I hope the players know as a team, that we have a lot of work to do during the spring, summer and fall if we're going to have the kind of success that we would like next season. So much of it has to do with effort, being in great shape and working hard."

86,
You asked me why I was blasting Ireland yesterday. Now there is an article out with players even some from other teams, blasting our GM.
Saying that he is untrustworthy and players do not believe a word he says.
Ross needs to get smart ASAP and get rid of this front office. If we manage to have another draft like the ones we have had, we might as well start the SUCK for BARKLEY campaign in 2013..
'Cause this franchise is headed nowhere fast.

Kelvin Cain says he's been working both as a rush end and strongside LB this spring.
Al Golden says in addition to OL Ereck Flowers, LB Raphael Kirby is an early enrollee who has impressed him
Golden said he's been impressed with Eduardo Clements this spring. But it sounds like Mike James has wowed him even more
Al Golden said scrimmage Saturday at Milander Park in Hialeah will be broken up into segments for film review

Manny - Jedd Fisch told me he plans to use TEs Walford, Cleveland like #Patriots' Hernandez, Gronkowski
Kelvin Cain (NOT in black jersey; in green) is practicing rush end for certain situations and strong side
Al Golden said team really missed DT Curtis Porter (most of) last season
CB Ladarius Gunter is indeed in a black jersey

Kelvin Cain (suspended at least twice) said he is making better decisions now
LB Cain said he'll have to earn back the black jersey

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | March 20, 2012 at 01:02 PM
Your article is spot on, as usual, Soup. Not sure what bay Bay Williams did to earn the suspension, but damn, talk about killing a season. As for the men, oh well, same story every year. Not that I don't think Larranaga will improve the team, I just think we'll see more improvement after the NCAA story ends and after a few new recruits join the team. Good luck to Malcolm Grant, he had the heart, good luck to Reggie, he had the talent and the effort until injuries caught up with him, Good luck to Kadji, if you're one and done, all I can say is I hope you like playing in Israel, Russia or Greece next year.
Posted by: j.w. | March 20, 2012 at 01:11 PM
You think Clive gets a tattoo allowance every month? Geez, the kids better hope to make some pro team, it is going to be hard to get an office job with those tat's....
Johnson and Kadji if they leave are beyond silly...
Neither would stay with an NBA team very long if they even made one.
Cain needs to step up his game or he will get passed up... No questions.. I expect Gunter to possibly start the season, but he might be passed over by the end of the year by a stud freshmen. Book 'em Danny!
Posted by: HurricaneMan' | March 20, 2012 at 01:18 PM
HurricaneMan - I think Gunter is going to be a stud and is going to be one of the other gems of this recruiting class along with Gabriel Terry and a couple other under the radar guys.
This is for all who are in the know. What is up with the players recruited by the previous staff in both football and basketball. How is it possible that what has ailed the football program now rears its ugly head in the basketball program. Was the athletic department as a whole allowed to fall into disrepair? How can the two major college programs suffer from the same symptoms. Were those programs sacrificed for the sake of academics and are only now being focused on once again? Just wondering if anyone knows. I do believe both programs are heading in the right direction finally I would just like to know what happened. Or people's theories on what happened.

I watched a few high school games this year and watched a few of the new Canes from the Canes 2012 class amd they were all REAL players. Golden and his staff have an eye for talent, regardless of star-ratings. It seems that Golden is also developing the players in U-tough.
I am hearing the right things from the players and coaches. Golden's team will surprise the experts this season!

Also, just read his coach said he'd be best suited for Free Safety in college. If he's got his dad's drive and determination, it doesn't matter what position he plays.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | March 21, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Dont care about his supposed 40 time, height or weight. You know this kid will bust his ass to be the best player he posssibly can be. He will get bigger, faster and stronger. I cant imagine a kid who would be more appreciative of the opportunity to play at the []_[] than him.
Ray Lewis III- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AOUxTuZC88
Posted by: 3G Cane | March 21, 2012 at 10:48 AM
He ran a 4.9 at the combine, He told me last week he runs a 4.5 but that is probably hand timed so he probably runs a legit 4.7 40 yard dash. He does have good lateral quickness and good vision.
Posted by: Hassan | March 21, 2012 at 11:21 AM
Funny story about the Ray Lewis III ommit- I had to buy a new phone (lost my old one) and I synched it with my blue tooth in the car. I hear the chime telling me I have a text (Papa Cane via twitter), and then I hear a prompt over my car radio asking if I want to hear my text read! then I hear "Message from Save UMMM (emphasising the word um rather than the abbreviation U.M.) football, new commit. . ." I had no idea my phone could do that, but it was pretty damned cool that I didn't have to wait to hear the news.

Look, not knocking the kids stats and his drive to be the best and yes he will get bigger & stronger at the "U" but 4.7 in High School is one thing and in college you get left. Jarret Peyton wasn't a speed merchant either when he played and he did alright when called upon.
Posted by: herbieibis | March 21, 2012 at 12:35 PM
Great piece on Eduardo...
Not sure about the signing of Ray Lewis III, does he even have an actual offer from UM? I'm not sure it matters because his dad could easily pay for his tuition.
The kid is a playmaker, but he does play for a small prep school.
The competition isn't great. His 40 time is poor. His stats tell you he is a football player, and I'd never think Golden would just throw a scholarship out there if he didn't believe in the kid.
Pretty cool to hear about former greats having their kids be a part of the same alumni.
Posted by: HurricaneMan' | March 21, 2012 at 12:40 PM
I second that, HurricaneMan. Golden got an unranked dude from Temple to go out as a first rounder.
Yeah, I trust his judgment.
Posted by: LB | March 21, 2012 at 12:55 PM
If he got an offer from Golden I'm all in...
I'm just not sure he actually has a written offer. This could be a thing from Ray to get his kids name out there and ensure his kid goes to the U..
Whether there is a real offer or not..
Does anybody have Canesport to confirm? If he did receive an offer I completely trust the staff's assessment. I just figured there where probably 3-4 South Florida runningbacks/athletes that were supreme studs and still did not have an offer from UM.. Including the back from Columbus.
Like I said I trust Golden and company.

With our scholarship issues looming..I highly doubt Golden would waste a scholarship..even on Ray Lewiss kid......this is why I like Twitter..I know some have criticized it, or us "being lazy" and getting info from there...but thanks to Twitter, I was able to find out we had a new commit and who it was and report it here before the likes of Rivals and Scouts...if Carroll tweeted "Welcome to the U" then there must of been a legit offer and commitment..imo

Sapp? Snitchey??
Cane on cane crime. What is going on

The whole concept of snitching is utterly ridiculous. It should have been reported a long time ago. Yes, it's part of the game. But it is reasonable for someone to protect the long-term integrity of your sport (i.e. lawsuits). The NFL evolves every year.
So who cares about "snitching?" In any other business in America, putting a bounty out on someone would result in immediate termination. Boo hoo.
They'll do the time, they'll pay. We'll move on. Whoever brought it up, good for them.

I disagree LB,
It comes to the same garbage we saw happen with former UM players and coaches who left.
They sold there soul and were absolved of any wrong doing by selling out others or the program as a whole.
I'm just saying it is a bit more complex than just they did the crime now they must pay. . I think the whole thing is kind of moronic, it isn't like defensive players aren't trying to smash out the lights of offensive players.. Different coaches, players use all kinds of motivation or incentives...
It is silly the Saints were this blatant with it, but I think Goodell is overextending his power once again just to try and make a point....

By the way Shockey is swearing he didn't out Vilma for the Saints bounty program..
Dumping on Sapp and saying he will take a lie detector test on ESPN...
Sapp is pure garbage, he should have had his UM card taken away a long time ago.

The bounty system is by no means simplistic. However, the punishment is absolutely justified because it sets proper precedent: it's doubtful any other teams will snub their nose at the NFL in the future. It seems on the surface harsh, but it is absolutely necessary for the long-term health of the sport.
It also plays to the trend of going towards an 18 game season. The rules have evolved every year into the protection and cultivation of a pass-first league (see this year's statistics). Player safety has been a paramount issue. Perhaps Goddell can be seen as overstepping just a touch, but in this situation... he has every right to enforce penalties at his discretion.
I have no idea what's going on with Sapp and Shockey. I actually listened to Michael Irvin to try to get a pulse, and he was very hestitant to even speak of it when a caller asked. Whistleblowing is an essential piece of balancing employer vs. employee relationships, so I have no problem in such a thing made public in any manner.
Honestly, we'll probably never know the full truth behind it. So who cares?

Yea, but you're justifying the trend to this "pass first" league and all the rules that protect offensive players.
Why should there be an 18 game season..
Also why should the player's sacrifice their bodies for longer when despite the NFL being probably the most popular sport in the world, the athlete's are not compensated accordingly.(don't get me wrong I think all sports athletes are overpaid... Just look at Baseball, Soccer, or even Basketball for that matter.. All sports that endure less physical strain on your body)
The fact of the matter is the bounty system will not and never affected the way a player plays. Player's receive incentive laden contracts on the amount of tackles and game-changing plays they make.
Whether Vilma threw $10,000 dollars onto a table isn't really overly affecting the mind of a person who makes millions.. It's a stupid game.
Worse minds games have been played by coaches for motivation. How about being cut next week if you don't make a serious game-changing play...? That isn't a failure by the league...
The whole things is a sham.. The league loves the violence but got so PR, lately and the whole fact that Goodell has a hard-on for seeing his name in the spotlight as an enforcer is ridiculous.
This league was built on violence.. Dick Butkus should have been kicked out of the league when he was playing??
If want to turn the NFL into some pansy arena league charade then fine.. Just merge and call it that. I'm tired of the league turning into what is now.. A pass happy, offense protected, money cash cow... It is the main reason I love college (aside from the atmosphere) over the NFL..
Where teams with great defense's still reign supreme! (See LSU/Alabama)

Let me point out also I'm not a Saint's fan either.. I could care less if there team does well.
I'm just tired of Goodell and the whole direction the NFL has been trending toward...
I am a Miami fan always (despite the dolphins failures.. and I look foward to the playoffs with my Heat.. The Marlins upcoming season, and all UM programs. Until the Dolphins get their head out of their a**es).

Look there is one thing driving all this crap that Godell is doing.....Player LAWSUITES!! Thats it he needs to cover the NFL butt for all the lawsuites that are coming from the players about concussions.
This way future players can not come after them because he can point out that he did everything in his power to protect the players. If no players were suing or articles out tehre about players dying from brain injuries nothing would have changed.
Btw this bounty thing is so dumb....change the name to big hits....and this is a non story the bigger deal is The Saints one lying to Godell and two not listening to him when he told them to stop it.
