University of Miami Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst announced on Wednesday that Vincent "Vinny" Scavo has been named Head Athletic Trainer.
Scavo rejoined the Hurricanes athletic department in 2011 after working as the Director of Sports Medicine Services and Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine since 2008.
With the division serving as the official sports medicine provider for the Hurricanes, Scavo had already worked closely with the team doctors and student-athletes.
Scavo has extensive experience as an athletic trainer at the professional, college and high school levels, previously serving as Miami's baseball athletic trainer from 1984-87, including during the Hurricanes' 1985 National Championship season.
Scavo worked with both the New York Yankees (1981-83) and Florida Marlins (1992-96) organizations, earning Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year honors by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainer Society and Florida State League Class A Baseball Athletic Trainer of the Year in 1994.
After two years as the Rehabilitation Coordinator for the Marlins' minor and major league teams (1994-96), he was named Director of Sports Medicine at Doctor’s Hospital and then served as the Head Athletic Trainer at several South Florida high schools for 13 years, working at Miami Southridge (1996-2001), Chaminade-Madonna (2001-06) and Coral Gables (2006-08).
Over that time, he developed the curriculum for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Coaches Certification Course and the MDCPS Injury Reporting System. In 2006, Scavo was named Florida's High School Athletic Trainer of the Year.
That's my first FIRST!

2. OKC is flatout a better TEAM than Miami OKC is built to be a team while Miami is built to be a show....LeBron doesnt show up in 4th quarter games and he dishes to Haslem of all ppl whn the chips are down tht be like MJ kickn the ball to Bill Wennington in the 4th yea not gon happen...
3. Texascane I didnt knw you lived in OKC way 2 go man me too this place looks light years different now tht the team is taking flight (shameless plug) ppl looking to open businesses in a place with less to no competition this is the place....

I think I even said that to one blogger the other day when they said something about him only having 3 catches for 64 yds or something.

loL, 86, If I bet I probably would. :) I can't be objective in sports so I just view the lines for entertainmnent purposes.
Having said that, I'm not expecting a lot of wins this year. I think we'll be a better team, just not sure that translates to a lot more wins. I'll predict 7-5 and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Posted by: j.w. | June 14, 2012 at 02:09 PM
I have read Phil Steele books the last 4 years. Very informative. And while I would hate to sew Miami lose 5 to 6 games. This is the true year one for coach golden and co. im. Predicting 8-4 fsu,ksu,,v-tech and nd will be hard games. And qb play..rb play and even recievers will be critical..
Posted by: Q | June 14, 2012 at 02:10 PM
No dissing Da Skreetz info but Kerr only caught, what 4 passes last year. I guess that classifies as having great hands.
Those 4 games mentioned above will be tough, no doubt but Herbie says this, if we play to win instead of playing not to lose, then I can see us breaking even. All 4 of those teams have veteran QBs back, which will make it even tougher and no matter how good we are we always seem to fall apart against Va. Tech. We have to get that old attitude back, that we once had, that any place we played was our house.
Posted by: herbieibis | June 14, 2012 at 03:04 PM
Whats up Canespace? I will tell you the games I worry about next year. Week 2 @ Kansas St: Well coached team with strong identity. Klein has legs enough to pick up conversions on 3rd down and make it a tough day for us. Week 5 Vs NCST: Physical team that has a couple extra years in the gym. This will be a test of our U Tough program. Glennon is a very capable QB. Also it is a trap game the week before we play the Irish. Week 7 Vs UNC: Again a trap game against a team that has played us close the last few years. They are going through changes this year, but the players know they can compete with us. I think this game will be telling on how much The U has progressed. Week 8 Vs Florida St: My favorite game of the year, my favorite rival, I hope we are both undefeated going into this game. They are a program on the rise and have a year's jump start on us. If they are still having O-line trouble come this time (all sophmore line?) and we can pressure E.J. then we can play them close. Maybe comes down to a FG? Wide Right 4? After that we get a Bye going into VTech and I think we can get the job done against them with a week to prepare.
Looks like I have us going about 8-4 and 5-3 in the ACC. Your thoughts welcomed?

This is where Golden's camps come into play. Just because he only had 4 catches, doesn't mean he doesn't have great hands.
Maybe he only had 4 passes thrown to him?

Don't get your hopes up too high, too soon. This is a very young team. Coach Al Golden TALKS a good game; but talk is cheap. It remains to be seen, if his U-tough talk translates into game day wins. (Let's hope so, anyway).
Posted by: 2002nemo | June 14, 2012 at 03:27 PM
If Golden is half the coach the true believers think his record at Temple tells him he is, he'll fill in the holes on offense no problem and win the division finishing second with it being a five team race and UNC the best team potentially talent wise but ineligible for a championship game berth.
But this is Golden we're talking about and he's been over-hyped everywhere he's been as a coach while under-delivering, so he'll have to get lucky to finish above .500 like his career record indicates. Tie printed t-shirts will somehow not see any drop in sales though even though the trite marketing slogan attached to them will be more aptly applied to Miami fans instead of fans of the opposing teams by the end of the year.

OGV -
Since it was so long ago, I don't recall what Miami fans were saying after the school hired Jimmy Johnson following Howard's departure for the USFL and a NC, but I for one was a bit suspect of the hire.
Jimmy's record at OKST was 29-25-3, not much above .500. Like Al, he turned around a sorry program, but not to the degree Howard turned around the Canes (winning a NC).
I am holding out judgement of any type - time will certainly tell soon enough. Of course, for all of those who believe AG is ready for knighthood already, I would urge that the hope be tempered just a bit.
Just sayin'

Most everyone looks good in camp, just like in batting practice, those bombs look good. I know it's only a measuring stick but them camp all-americans need to translate to game all-americans.
I can't see us winning 8 or 9 games. Until our game management gets better and our QB's understand our jersyses are Green, White & Orange, then all I can see is another 6-6 record. Naturally I hope I'm wrong, 7-5 if someones besides us decides to give a game away.
I'd rather just go ahead and get these dam sanctions over with, instead of waiting until Feb. or later. The only good thing is we'll get another full load of recruits.

highschool non-production does not always translate to college non-production...
Moss was born in Miami, Florida. He attended Miami Carol City Senior High, where he played high school football for the Carol City Chiefs. He led the team with 25 receptions for 600 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior, and amassed 450 yards on 12 kickoff returns with one return touchdown that year. Moss earned third-team all-state football honors following his senior season.
some would say that 25 receptions isnt alot...

According 2 tos, the nation's top player Robert Whats his name just committed 2 Clemson!!! LET THE HATING & SPECULATING BEGIN!!!!
Posted by: 4-Real | June 14, 2012 at 08:10 PM
Clemson is a top notch ACADEMIC institution that is located in a hot spot for college students with great weather and lots to do.
The ONLY players that would decide to go to other schools in less desirable locations and schools like Miami or USC or maybe some of the top ACC or SEC schools or maybe Texas, Oklahoma or Notre Dame are the ones that can't get into Clemson.
Clemson, the school and the town, is the BOMB. South Beach can't compete with that. Everybody knows that U silly rabbit!
Oh yeah, and then there's the money too.
Hey BTW, is the NCAA going to investigate into the car with temp tags that Sammy Watkins was driving arpound in when he got popped for the weed?
NO? Well, I didn't think so.

I forgot to add that I would have definitely preferred to go to Clemson, I mean who wouldn't, but got stuck with going to Miami. I guess that's the breaks huh?

The Heat got to watch that third q. Thats when the fix is on. Call it close on Okies end and lose on Miami s end. Wade and Labron need to drive in the third and force fouls. That third q last game was a scam.

The Heat is on!

Chalmers just shut up and play.

BTW Vinny Scavo looks like a good get for the program. The abilities of an athletic trainer are often overlooked in the outcome of a football season.
Keeping "nicked up" players competing and properly rehabbed is a VERY big deal.
Thanks for the update 86!
