### In one of the most notable claims in last week's Yahoo story alleging more UM recruiting violations, Yahoo writer Charles Robinson quoted an unidentified former Canes staffer as saying Sean Allen arranged for Olivier Vernon and Anthony Chickillo to gain entrance to a strip club in Coral Gables Jan. 22, 2011 on Chickillo’s recruiting visit, and that Allen paid for drinks and entertainment that night.
Vernon on Friday vehemently denied that he went to a strip club with Chickillo and said he would be willing to say that under oath. He said Allen “wasn’t with us” and paid for nothing that night.
“It’s not true,” Vernon said, repeating it twice. "We took him out for bowling in Sunset Place. Al Golden and all the coaches stress not to take [recruits] to strip clubs.”
Yahoo cited phone records showing 12 calls between Vernon and Allen that night, but without proof of where they were or whether Allen paid for anything. The question is whether Robinson's anonymous "former UM staffer" has an ax to grind against the program.

I pray for your comfort. I pray your father knows Jesus and is washed in his blood of salvation. I pray for his forgiveness. I pray for his mercy. I pray for his love and the promise of the Gospel to surround your father and family. To bring you comfort and a peace that goes beyond all understanding.
May God bless you, Comfort You and welcome your father by saying it is well, my true and faithful servant.
I am sure he is very proud of you!

Anybody have any thoughts on Sarasota? Where to live, things to do, etc.
Posted by: Canezitis | July 29, 2012 at 12:44 PM
Canezitis,
I live in Englewood, about 45mins. South of Sarasota on the Coast.
If you enjoy golf... you'll enjoy Sarasota... LOTS of golfing & golf courses. Also lots of boating and fishing. The area is still growing... mostly in an eastern direction, (east of I-75.) Lakewood Ranch is an up and coming community out there.
WARNING: The median age group in Sarasota is probably about 70. I'm about to turn 58 and I feel like a youngster around here most of the time.
Having said that, there are also young families around, and plenty of good schools. (Sarasota & Charlotte County schools are always some of the highest scoring Districts in the State.)
Lots of good restaurants... Siesta Key beach has been rated as having the best sand in the world. (If you like beaches.)
If you're just visiting, Mote Marine Lab is a nice half-day attraction. St. Armands Circle is a nice upscale outdoor shopping area.
Ringling Art museum is nice... Overall, it's fairly "touristy" over here.
The biggest draw to me, (having grown up in Miami), is just the slower pace over here. Not as crowded and crazy as the east coast.
It's different though, (in terms of the number of "cultural" choices especially), and I would recommend scouting it out for a weekend AT LEAST though, (unless you already have a job lined up here and are for sure moving in.) With the construction business so "down" right now... there are not many jobs around... no real "industry" per say.
Anyway... it USED to be REAL SEASONAL with snowbirds coming in for the winter and leaving after Easter like clockwork... now, not so much... way more year-round residents.
For the 33 years I've been over here, I've not regretted the move. (Felt more comfortable raising a family over here versus the east coast.)
Hope this helps a little, & Good luck!

Hassan, prayers out and up for your father.
Posted by: canesteeler | July 29, 2012 at 03:27 PM
Good Sarasota overview Roach. I'd second everything you said. There's also a pretty good cultural scene in terms of dance, theater (FSU "cough" theater puts on some decent plays), classical music. Hip. Sarasota ain't. Think of it as a Midwestern Boca Raton with an average age 20 years higher

Here's a start
Go to Cousins Restaurant in Charlotte Amelia, St. Thomas for local food which can be very good. Warning: do not drink Mobi, it tastes like cough syrup. Do not order mannish water unless you're feeling particularly macho: that's goat head soup.
The diary over next to the golf course makes some killer milk shakes.
The ferry to St. John is worth it, particularly the ride back at night.
Posted by: Old Skool | July 23, 2012 at 11:48 AM
Old Skool-went there today-awesome food!! will take the car ferry over to St John's tomorrow-thank U
Posted by: TJL | July 29, 2012 at 04:44 PM
Glad you liked it. Be aware the established underwater snorkeling trail in the National Park on St. John is so-so at best and can get crowded. I'd explore the island, find my own beach and enjoy.
Here's a wacky/unique/romantic idea that if you have the time and negotiating skills (and are with female company), I might try.
At the end of Hassel Island (which sits on the right of the bay Charlotte Amalia is located on) there an old cannon embankment. Find out what day will be most crowded with cruise ships. Get a picnic dinner and some of your favorite beverage, hire a water taxi/boatman to drop you off very late in the afternoon (and pick you up a couple of hours later). You'll have a private view of the parade of lighted cruise ships as they pass by and chug out to sea. Any of the local retailers or taxi drivers will know the schedules of the various cruise ships.

And golf courses we have, but I'm not golfing in 110-120 degree heat:) . We're gonna keep our options open I think until something great comes along that gets us away from 5 mo of 100+ heat and around a younger community.

Long weekend of shooting and was out. I hope things are good with you, Hassan.
I've got an issue: is there anyway I can find out where to watch all UM games? I know a bunch are on the ESPN family, but is there a weblink for the smaller games (i.e. Bethune-Cookman)? Maybe contact someone in the athletic department?
I'll listen to WQAM if necessary, but I'd rather not.
I'm also curious about the next target. Go Cunningham!

"ACC commissioner John Swofford is equally confident in the ACC’s return to the top. Speaking at the ACC Kickoff on Sunday, he addressed the whole issue of the league’s BCS record.
“I have to believe there will be a day when that 3-12 becomes 12-3,” Swofford said."

Another arrest under Urban Meyer
Running back Bri'onte Dunn was one of the stars of Urban Meyer's first recruiting class at Ohio State this year, but Dunn might have to wait a bit longer before actually seeing the field in an Ohio State uniform.
Dunn was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Saturday night.
According to the police, Dunn was pulled over after nearly hitting a patrol car on Saturday.
Inside the car police found less than 200 grams of marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Along with the drug citations, Dunn was also hit with citations for not wearing a seat belt and a tail-light violation.
Ohio State has not made an official statement about the case as it continues to gather all the facts. Still, given the punishment handed out to Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort -- both players were suspended indefinitely and removed from their scholarships for obstructing official business -- along with Storm Klein being dismissed from the team for a domestic violence arrest, it would not be surprising to see Dunn be hit with a suspension.
Which would further complicate things for an Ohio State team that's starting to get a bit thin at running back.
Dunn suspension would leave Ohio State with only Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith as backs with playing experience.

Players leaving Penn State:
North Carolina State released a statement Monday announcing Tim Buckley a safety and a North Carolina native, would join the Wolfpack for the team's first practice Tuesday.
Buckley redshirted last season at Penn State, so he'll have four years of eligibility left.
"The opportunity to come here and play at my state university, so close to home, was something that I couldn't pass up," Buckley said in the statement that made no mention of the scandal.
Other Nittany Lions appear to be at least looking around among them Penn State star running back Silas Redd is strongly leaning toward transferring to USC, sources told ESPN's Joe Schad.
Redd left Los Angeles on Monday after spending lots of time with Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley and wide receiver Robert Woods over the weekend, according to the sources.
Al Golden (the former Penn State TE) still has 2 or 3 scholarships and can exceed the # according to the NCAA.

Solar - Thanks for the shout out the other night. Echoing many of the others - it's great having you around again.
On the matter of beyond the green & orange colored glasses -
As much as it may suck to admit and even at times witness, sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the opponent and focus on getting them the next go 'round.
As well, if another team/conf is good (SEC football), it's not cool to make yourself look like the fool and try to discredit their success for no other reason than you don't like the team and your team once beat them on a consistent basis.
These are all lessons many a 'Spacer can learn by paying attention to your posts: )
I've got a good vibe on this year's Canes team. Excited to get this thing started!

Well, just found out he named his "3 finalists"
On Monday, the class of 2014 standout linebacker named Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State as his three "finalists." While his signing day is nearly 20 months away, the fact that he went out of his way to make the distinction that these are not only three favorites, but the finalists, means that he could be nearing a decision.
Michael is listed as the 5th best inside linebacker in the country for the class of 2014 as well as the 5th overall prospect from Ohio by 247Sports. Michael already holds over 20 offers.

Yeah, you're probably right. I figure it's back to Auburn. I don't think we can get that lucky, 3 times in one week.

He might end up at Clemson..their doing some dam good recruiting up there...I can tell you this..you bring a kid to Death Valley on game day..might be enough to convince him..plus your the only show in town..a local celebrity

Papa Cane guesses Kearse will choose Auburn.

I think once you decommit and start looking..Golden pretty much writes you off..and he should..if you give into a high school kid just think of how you will have to cater to him once he is on campus lol

This out of New England Patriots training camp......... Does not sound too good
Marcus Forston, defensive line: That the team has only had two days of padded practice makes it difficult to gauge the performances of linemen thus far, but Forston hasn’t done anything to catch my eye – positive or negative.

That sounds about right for him. He did the same thing here.

Kearse, is a tweener anyway. He would have to put on weight to play lb but I think he wants to play offense.

Another PSU player transferring: LB Khairi Fortt has decided to transfer from Penn State to Cal.

^^ Silas Redd to be announcing soon too. Most suspect USC.

Kind of ironic that they are on probation and have reduced numbers but stand to benefit from someone else getting in trouble...

3/1 odds Kearse chooses Auburn, and decommits from them on NSD or before.
Next.

They sure look complete, don't they? The schedule isn't horrible, either.
at Stanford (transitioning from Luck)
at Utah (trap game)
vs. Oregon
vs. Arizona State (trap game)
Conference Championship
They're a top 3 team. With Redd, they're 1 or 2.

TJL and Sling - I have my sights set on Jupiter Farms - spent some time there in January and loved it.

If USC loses I'll be surprised. They did lose DT Devin Kenard to a knee injury recently. It's nice for them that they just came off their bowl ban. It's always good to be lucky and good.
