jw, ocala,
thanks for the kind words.
I still love this place, just new business opportunities, and some chances to do things on the bucket list have really put a dent into my blogging time.

I think we will be dealt with fairly and it will be pretty costly for our past negligence.
When you break the rules you suck it up and hopefully learn from it.

To think NC, Ohio State, and Penn State were punished fairly but we should be get a pass because Golden is well spoken and very likable is being optimistic. We might get a gold star on our foreheads for cooperating but we are going to get our just punishment and it's going to have fans whining.

Solar, I agree completely.

However, I don't think it'll be anywhere near what PSU got like some believe. It'll be closer to OSU's than it will be to PSU's.

Yes, one specific player. All I can say is that he plays offense, was not expected to choose Miami at first and then tried to commit but APPARENTLY was not accepted.

MIAMI'S PRIMARY TARGETS AT HIS POSITION ARE STILL IN LINE TO BECOME CANES.

The differences between NCAA coaches

A Sociopath

A sociopath is typically defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. A sociopath is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused - it is done to get one's way). Sociopaths have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. Sociopaths are often charming and charismatic, but they use their talented social skills in manipulative and self-centered ways (see, lovefraud, for more on sociopaths).

Compulsive Liar

A compulsive liar is defined as someone who lies out of habit. Lying is their normal and reflexive way of responding to questions. Compulsive liars bend the truth about everything, large and small. For a compulsive liar, telling the truth is very awkward and uncomfortable while lying feels right. Compulsive lying is usually thought to develop in early childhood, due to being placed in an environment where lying was necessary. For the most part, compulsive liars are not overly manipulative and cunning (unlike sociopaths), rather they simply lie out of habit - an automatic response which is hard to break and one that takes its toll on a relationship (see, how to cope with a compulsive liar).

The terms Pathological Liar, Habitual Liar and Chronic Liar are often used to refer to a Compulsive Liar

UMike...thanks for the tip but as U know, I know a troll when I see one. They show up out of the blue, they post something negative as their first comment, they use a fake email, and a one time IP addy.

UpNorthCane

86 is that player stacey coley??? Lol really only offensive player who i can think of ....

But either way for all the haters outthere the HURRICANES are coming!!!!!

CaneLunatic

In no way am I a troll.

I post from my work laptop which has all kind of security protocols when browsing the Internet. I would give more details, but that's the IT's dept job, not mine. I'm not a software security guru.

I just posted my thoughts and observations and what I thought was logical.

As far as: "To think NC, Ohio State, and Penn State were punished fairly but we should be get a pass because Golden is well spoken and very likable is being optimistic. We might get a gold star on our foreheads for cooperating but we are going to get our just punishment and it's going to have fans whining."

NC and Ohio Sate DID get a pass, IMO. Their transgressions were clearly proven, specific, and without any possible contradiction. It wasn't like a pathological liar and convicted felon, with very little documentable evidence was making outlandish sensational claims, that played well with the sensationalistic press (prostitute abortions), but are IMPOSSIBLE to prove.

So I don't think we should get a pass, I think if appropriate charges are proven, we should get OSU and NC type penalties. Which I know we would all be happy with. But I think we will get much worse than them which is TOTALLY unfair. Other than the tabloid nature of our charges, I think what OSU and NC are much more undermining to an academic institution.

My reason for not being optimistic is that Emmert is coming across as an overreaching jerk to me, and that he will succumb to popular sentiment, NOT what's fair. Which is why I think we will get hammered.

So I really don't agree Solar, I think everyone would be happy with OSU or NC penalties and if we get significantly worse, we will have every right to cry foul. Look at what's been PROVEN OSU and NC did. So I also disagree that we will get a just punishment, Solar. Our punishment will be commensurate with our reputation, national perception, and downright hatred towards us. How is that just? I hope I'm wrong.

As far as posting on the PB Post. Are you kidding? Millian is a hard core gator, and it's a cesspool of gator trolling. No thanks. Plus what I posted, since it could be perceived as 'negative" would be picked up and run with by the gator trolls.

86Cane

Lunatic...bottom line: just email me, U know where, IF U wanna stay on The Space.

Posted by: solarcane | July 25, 2012 at 09:17 PM

I agree.
With the exception of maybe Haith, ours was mostly a case of assistant coaches and a Super Towel Boy gone wild. Even Shapiro acknowledged that Dee,Shalala, and Shannon didn't know what the hell was going on.

Depending on how the NCAA chooses to define a lack of institutional control in our case, ours doesn't compare from a "chain of command" standpoint. We'll see...

CaneRock

Hmmmm, what do ya'll make of this:

### The NCAA has renewed efforts to try to get former UM players to corroborate Nevin Shapiro’s claims and has asked UM for help in contacting them. Predictably, the former UM players have been ignoring the NCAA’s calls. UM is in a tough spot, because it wants to cooperate with the NCAA but doesn’t want any former players giving credence to Shapiro’s allegations, either.

Per Barry J.

solarcane

canelunatic,
I respect your opinion but like I suggested many a cane fan will whine a bit about the penalties dealt us.

It may sound unrealistic in this day and age but what if Miami had coaches and players that resisted the urge to put their own interests and comfort ahead of their school, fans and community?
Because it seems everybody else breaks the rules doesn't justify being part of it.
I think coach Golden is trying his best to get the players and fans out of this mindset.

To me no matter how you spin it, it was our guys that put themselves at the mercy of the NCAA.
It's too late to shift the focus from what we were doing was wrong to how unfair the punishment is going to be.

CaneRock

That's what the NCAA thought...and then there was PSU. The PSU tragedy had the NCAA at the "mercy" of the mob.

raizecane

This just in.....my PC suks azz. I fire up two URL's and get a "running low on memory" pop up window from Norton.

The What

Thanks for the clarification soup. Greatly appreciate it. If the coaches rejected him and they are still on pace to get who they want then no matter how talented said player is I don't view it as a loss. I have full faith in golden and staff to make the best decisions for the team.

CaneRock - that could actually be a good sign that they couldn't get much info doing their own investigation and need former players to talk to them to get more info. They are dealing with a pathological liar. Without corroboration or solid evidence how do you know he's not lying.

This NCAA investigation has so many tentacles. A pathological liar, other cheaters like hurtt, hill, haith. A federal investigation into a ponzi schemer that could not fully untangle his financial records. Investors seeking to get their money back, former and current players. It's such a massive web of deceit. Then you have someone like Allen calling hurtt and stoutland (allegedly) helping them recruit players. There were some very bad apples at the U. And on top of our punishment (which will be similar to unc and Ohio state but with two bowl bans one served already) I think a lot of individuals are going to get punished for this. I think Emmett set the tone with PSU in punishing the school as a whole. With Miami he is gonna punish the school but I think go more after individuals to set another example. It will be two different punishments and meant to send a message in two different ways. IMO show cause for hurtt, haith, Allen, and the other assistants and staff that were behind this. Emmett is the roger goodell of the NCAA. He is not messing around and he will tackle the Miami issue different than he did the PSU issue.

Finally I'm disappointed only one cane was voted on the ACC team. Since most of our players are freshman I understand but I do believe by the end of the season we will have to or three more all ACC guys.

Nation misses Miami, Golden says
by: Michael Casagrande July 25th, 2012

There’s no denying the Miami of late isn’t the Miami of 10 years ago. A 6-6 season like last year’s would have been hard to imagine 10 years back.

Al Golden wants that expectation to return to the Hurricane program. He spoke a lot about bringing things back to the way it used to be at this week’s ACC Kickoff in Greensboro.

I think people miss us being on the national scene, deep down inside, Golden said. It’s really unique to be in a city like Miami and really have that kind of enclave of Hurricane fans. It’s really unique because I’ve been in Boston and I’ve been in Philadelphia, but this is unique.
You could argue that when the Hurricanes are playing their best, that’s as good a ticket as anything in the city. That’s what we need to get back to. We need to get back to being that type of team. So I think the support is there, and we appreciate it.

What will it take to get back to that level? Leave a comment below and see what the others think.

TonyCane

What will it take to get back to that level?

Two - three years with Golden at the helm, mimimal to no sanctions, and no further NCAA shenanigans.

The What

In two years we will be a top 10 team. The defense is going to be Great and with Olsen at qb the offense will be humming. I think by 2014 we will have a championship caliber team. Even with the sanctions we will still be on that pace. Miami is like USC, they can quickly rebuild and we have a solid coaching staff and great recruiters. Our trajectoy is rising.

TonyCane

I think the top goals for this year should be:

1. National Championship
2. If that quest fails, qualify for a bowl so that we can decline, thereby nullifying an NCAA bowl ban (hopefully).
3. Develop young talent, play freshmen, and get experience to make the big leap next year.
4. Embarass Va Tech and FSU.
5. Continue to build that wall around South Florida, and prevent Gator recruiters from trying to dig beneath it.

1. Lay off the hallucinogens.
2. 6 wins is the floor. That doesn't change. End of season schedule alone should make up for half of that.
3. It's already starting. Deon Bush!
4. I don't see us embarassing either one of those two. However, I strongly believe we can beat Tech.
5. That's already happened. See 2012 class.

FWIW: I am told that Hurtt, Hill and Stoutland did not do UM any favors.

myndraize

Should the U decide to take another self-imposed bowl ban that would be 2 straight, considering miami is a private school would they add more years to that? I can't imagine miami's punishment being worst than SC or OSU who truely had a loss of institutional control.

UMike

### The NCAA has renewed efforts to try to get former UM players to corroborate Nevin Shapiro’s claims and has asked UM for help in contacting them.

Quick..someone kidnap Tyrone Moss lol

TonyCane

LB...the goal should always be the National Championship, no matter the perceived talent level. You should go into every game fighting to win, and if you can accomplish that goal each week, then the ultimate goal is accomplished as well.

Myndraize, I suspect that however many bowl bans we self-impose, the NCAA will add at least one more year.

TonyCane

Myndraize, if the NCAA can prove half of what Shapiro alleged, we'll get what Penn State got less the $60M fine.

pbcfrcane13

Of course those three didnt help....one Im sure the NCAA told them speak up or we will after you and two if you dont speak up you will never coach again. WTH does Hurtt HIll and stoutland care about UM anymore and further more there schools benefit if UM gets hit hard with scholarships lost more players for there teams that recruit like crazy down here. NCAA is so dumb.....even if that stuff the Rat said isnt true those three coaches benefit by just agreeing with it. NCAA is not going to punish them if they tell the truth....the NCAA is gutless and only goes after schools not the people who caused the issues.

orange 'n green in the vein

Hill is from SoFla, Stoutland doesn't care anymore now that he moved up to 'Bama, but Hurtt should have known better than to try and deep six his alma matter. Of course, "knowing better," and Clint Hurtt haven't gone hand in hand at anytime his age would have suggested they should, so why start now, right? Probably pissed he sucked at college football and never made the NFL.

LB

"LB...the goal should always be the National Championship, no matter the perceived talent level. You should go into every game fighting to win, and if you can accomplish that goal each week, then the ultimate goal is accomplished as well."

That's more than obvious. It's inferred by everyone associated with the program. But it's not happening this year, for reasons public and private. I've already went into great detail about the deficiencies of this team. Since I'm not going to rehash negative crap, I'll leave it.

This is a team on the rise. This is a better team than last year, and I'm completely happy with that. I'm a realist, and common sense says that Golden's Canes will be there sooner rather than later.

Being honest also dictates for you to compare the depth charts of 2000-2003 to 2009-2012. I have them on hand. It's not close.

We have an excellent coaching staff. Some of my concerns have been addressed privately, and it makes me very happy. I absolutely believe that the 2012 team is going to shock people with the number of wins. I also believe that this the most defensively talented team since at least 2005, even with the loss of Armstrong. These are really good things.

But don't be that person. Don't be that fan who predicts 12-0 every year when a quick glance at the schedule shall tell you otherwise.

Leave that to West Virginia fans.

roachcane77

"The NCAA has renewed efforts to try to get former UM players to corroborate Nevin Shapiro’s claims and has asked UM for help in contacting them."

I'm seriously concerned about this thing now... for months I thought we'd get some leniency for our cooperation, and we'd get through this mess with serious, but not "program busting" sanctions.

Most recently though, I feel like the NCAA is positioning themselves to splat us with a HUGE sledgehammer... making us the "example" of their new tough stance... piggybacking on the PSU punishments.

The NCAA is giving WAY too much credence to slimeballs like Robinson, Hill, Hurtt, & especially Shapiro. The fact that they are STILL rehashing the same material and now trying to get further corroboration from former players and coaches only adds to my feelings of impending doom.

Not good... not good at all... Al Golden is the MAN for this job, bit even HE won't be able to overcome anything even approaching PSU levels of sanctions.

What I don't get is, the NCAA is talking to the perpetrators. Hill , hurtt and stoutland committed the "crimes" they're investigating. It's like investigating a murder and interviewing the murderer and asking him about the bystander that may have witnessed the murder. Oh wait this is the NCAA so no on is ever guilty except for the students. Nothing personal about it. I live in WV, and interact with the fanbase everyday. It's friendly, mostly. I call them overrated & delusional, they call me a lover of thugs and a traitor. It's a cyclical love/hate relationship. I judge schools greatly on how their fans react.

Keep in mind that WVU is nowhere near the evil that FSU embodies.

Weird, I never liked WVU in the first place... so how am I a traitor?

True to your date being a fan. I was a wee, wee little thing on that date, and hadn't yet seen Sebastian in all his glory.

True again to me being an a-hole, and you shouldn't have to apologize to anyone for being honest... just like I'm an honest a-hole.

Don't be sorry for telling the truth. I am an a-hole. I don't mind. Truthtellers are often ridiculed, though this isn't even close to ridicule.

But I deal with tangible things. It wasn't an attack. It's fact. And it wasn't directed at your university (which have excellent schools of sociology & dentistry), it is the fanbase.

We lay into FSU, Florida, Notre Dame, and every other university which isn't the U here. USC, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, and the FSU stooges are subject to venom at any time. Those are the rules.

A wise man once said that UM's dominance came from its enormous chip on its shoulder and its loathing of all programs.

I'm certain Ohio Cane gets his share of flack from the loonies near him. No big whup.

Thus, HawaiiCane (I love your state, by the way), I proudly concede all of your points save two.

1. It's not personal. It's fact.

2. I'm not acting like an a-hole. I am one.

LB

I still don't think we are gonna get hammered though. Another bowl ban and 7 lost scholarships per year for 3 years. 5 year probation and probably have to have some monitor to ensure we are doing things the right way. NCAA doesnt want an appeal that goes to the courts. They already killed one program and will punish us as well but nothing close to penn state. That program will be dead for the next 10 years.

Ohio_Cane

I like LB more and more with every post. Lol

HawaiiCane

Glad to know your an a-hole! Thanks for clearing that up.

You are right about many things, however the only time you ever mention WVU is taking a pot-shot at them. so that may say something about you as well.

Miami also only took on their challenges head-to-head. Alonzo Highsmith got in someone's face just like 4-Real does. Not a little extra sentence tag on.

THIS! I hope those scumbags arent being given immunity when they were the ones directly involved with the rat and responsible for the the infractions! That would make no sense and would mean the only thing the NCAA cares about is taking us down. If you take into account the fact they are trying to get more cooperation from former players it must mean that much of what Chuckles Robinson vommited out last year is very hard to prove. Hopefully there arent anymore T Moss's out there.

Ohio_Cane

Hawaii, no offense, but I see what LB is saying.

I don't like any opponent of Miami, and for a long time, that was WVU. I don't like WVU.

I live about an hour from there, been there a bunch of times due to close friends going to school there. Actually had some great weekends there partying, and hell, that's where my wife got her master's degree. So my dislike for them has nothing to do with it being a good school, etc. It's just how I feel.

3G Cane

Wasnt Alonzo looking into bringing a lawsuit against the NCAA if they try to hammer us? I wonder if his recent comments have to do with that.

LB

I think after seeing what happened to penn state and the tough talk by Emmett everyone got or is getting a little nervous. Had they waited on the PSU punishment I would have felt better cause that would have been the last word on punishments. The fact that we are up next makes me a little nervous cause you can't follow up the PSU punishment and the tough talk with a slap on the wrist. And thats what worries me about the potential punishment.

WVU fans think the same way. I guess those five titles sting.

Honestly, Hawaii... the primary reason I can't stand the WVU fans is the language.
The racial slurs are offensive even for Klan levels. It's awful, extreme, and it is continual. It's also uncomfortably paradoxical since most of the players are African-American.

That's what I get emotional about. People who have problems with skin color make me hostile. It's one of the first two of three statements from WVU fans about Miami, and it's wrong. I'm not dignifying that crap by repeating it.

" I can just hear LB singing that Dennis Leary song in his car on the way to work. :)"

I'll sing all week! How about this...

...if we beat FSU, I'll sing a vulgar, anti-Nole song and send the MP3 to the CEO. I'll even sing it in a serious voice. Just remind me, and I'll happily do it.

Oh, and if anyone has any FSU toilet paper, email me.

"F*** Hurtt, Stoutland, Shapiro, and Robinson

F*** FSWHOO, UF, and everyone but our U

F*** whoever wants to see our U fail...."

YES! YES! YES! Someone who understands. The U transcends all.

Hail the Tie!

Oh What a tangled web they've weaved...

Penn State's legal battles continued Wednesday with the university's primary general liability insurer filing a motion claiming coverage should be denied because the administration failed to disclose what it knew about former coach Jerry Sandusky's behavior, according to legal document

People on here need to chill duke....

UM wont get hit with anything serious maybe another bowl ban and a couple of schollies but nothing that would set up back several years. In fact we will still be very good in the upcoming years and we will be able to play for a NC. As long as no one in the NFL rats....(former players) then we should be straight. No offense but Hurtt was a piss poor coach......

Fellas Fellas relax, We all know the NCAA hates us. We won't get the sledge hammer, just the ball-peen kind. 5 ships lost per year for 3 years, five that we should go ahead and cough up this year, plus maybe one more year of a bowl ban. We would of been good but these latest allegations, will probably get us another year. What stinks though, lets just say we crawl to 6-6 and we are bowl eligible? What do we do? I defenitely don't want to be hit with another bowl ban in 2013, when we should be pretty loaded. What really stinks, is those Azz holes won't probably rule on us until February. I hope we have some inside info, that will help us make a decision sooner rather than later. The ACC is so mediocre, aside from a few teams, we could back in to 5 wins in this conference

Ohio_Cane

Herbie, a couple things:

1 - I agree with your guess of what our sanctions will be.

2 - I'm almost positive Golden and staff already know what the sanctions will be.

3 - Yes, it would be best if the sanctions would come out sooner rather than later. Once they're out, other schools will stop using it as a scare tactic to recruits.

4 - As for the bowl ban if sanctions aren't out by then? I say self-impose again. Even if they weren't going to give us another bowl ban (2 years), maybe that would help with reducing another part of the sanctions (probation years, schollies lost, etc)?

Randy Shannon officially hired at TCU to coach LB's

Ohio,
I just hope we get to that magical 6 win plateau and then everything should fall into place.

Always a chance. If he commits, good luck throwing vs. UM in 2014.
