"Lb, it takes more than being TALL & WHITE 2 be a Ken Dorsey lol."
First of all, that isn't the eighth time you misquoted me and used my statement out of context. Cut it out. Your "lol's" at the end of your sentences don't make you correct.
Second, bringing race into the discussion is pure idiocy.
Third, height does matter. Ask around.

It ain't to hard to mess up a group of superstars, I don't even think Kiffen could do that. Hell if we had had a QB that even would have closely resembled Barkley, the last few years, we would of averaged at least 9 wins a year.
Posted by: herbieibis | August 01, 2012 at 09:38 PM
Barkley is overhyped, He would've suffered the same fate as Jacory if He would've came here. What makes USC go, is they play defense in a NON-defensive conference, and that ain't sayin' much.

1. Your the one that brought up Ken Dorsey.
2. I'm being a REALIST, you're being a RACIST. Why else would you want THIS former Memphis qb 2 start over an ORIGINAL UM QB?
3. U say height does matter? Jacory is 6'4 1/2 . Kyle Wright 6'5 . Kirby Freeman 6'3 . Now what?
4. Check out most of my post about Crow especially AFTER the spring game. Rest of yall bragging bout Dewey cuz he wuz coached by Ty whats-his-face, a legendary interception machine.

Conditioning is not "punitive,'' UM Canes coach Golden says; And NCAA hits UCF with sanctions
Just a little more than two days before the Hurricanes take to Greentree Field with Coach Al Golden and company to embark on a new season.
And what a year Golden has been through. He was asked the other day about the things he didn't anticipate a year ago at this time. He got right to some off-the-field issues --NCAA investigation not included.
"The three things that jump out to me that we have identified as areas that we need to make progress in -- and are making progress -- that I would have never guessed going to the University of Miami,'' he said, "are conditioning, strength and nutrition.''

Hate to double post from the same article, but I wonder how this affects us:
NCAA HITS UCF
The NCAA punished UCF today for recruiting violations and lack of institutional control.
"The case centered on what the committee noted was an ever-increasing problem in college athletics today,'' reported the NCAA, "namely the involvement of outside third parties with prospects and student-athletes. This impermissible activity also resulted in findings of unethical conduct for the former director of athletics [that would be Keith Tribble, former long-time Orange Bowl Committee executive director and ex-Gators football player] and a former assistant football coach [David Kelly] and a failure to monitor by the head men's basketball coach [Donnie Jones].''

That UCF one year bowl ban is a good sign for UM's sanctions. Add in the fact that the NCAA is trying to go round to the former players again means they don't have anything other than immunity offered offenders from the previous coaching staff talking sh!t about their former employer (looking at you Cli(n)t, Aubry, and Jeff) so as long as UM continues to play nice with the investigation by smiling and appearing to do everything in their power to assist where they can but without actually getting their loyal and successful alumni to squeal, one more bowl ban should mean the scholarship reductions will be six or less, in other words the number of scholarship players the NCAA found to have invalidated their eligibility last year when they were forced to admit what went down during the initial investigation or suffer the glue factory heavy handed punishment Aldarious received.
The unnamed AFC scout works for the Dolphins, his evaluation skills are questionable at best. Morris is a poor man's Kenny Kelly (or even homeless man's Ryan Clement) at this point, complete with overconfidence in his physical abilities to bail out his marginal game management and decision making skills. Give me Williams knowing the playbook like the back of his hand and Fisch keeping it dialed in on the play-calling to his strengths any day. I'd be shocked if the WR corps excels at anything but turning medium and short range passes into big gains at this point with the personnel on hand this year anyway, that plays to Williams accuracy and touch in the West Coast offense aspects of the passing game over Morris velocity and questionable route tree mastery but maybe he's gotten significantly better. Gray Crow gets a red-shirt because, well, he needs it.

We will see on Lane Kiffin... but I think that guy is as prepared as they come in college football. I think he knows how to run a machine of a college program. Dont get me wrong, hes not likeable. Alot of USC fans hate him, but Saban is a jerk and Meyer is a slimeball and all they do is win, win, win. Ive said this before here to me there are a lot of similarities between Miami and USC. The Don should stop thinking Duke and start thinking USC. Just my 2 cents.
Posted by: The Dude | August 02, 2012 at 02:18 AM
I love the stories coming out of the weight room. The more NFL players you have, the more you win. We should be much more athletic and conditioned. Then we just need to play with that Miami speed that no one else has.
Posted by: The Dude | August 02, 2012 at 02:22 AM
OGV, you crack me up. Your honesty kills me, your posts are great.
Posted by: The Dude | August 02, 2012 at 02:27 AM
OGV- agree with most of what you say in the first paragraph, I'm just not sure if another bowl ban will reduce the scholarship losses or if the NCAA considers them completely separate. Disagree with the Second part. Morris has an NFL arm, Kelly really didn't have a cannon and Clement wasn't even close. Morris has to show a lot of growth to be considered a real NFL prospect (potential starter as opposed to a third stringer). Williams is intriguing for all the reasons you say, I just don't know if he has the leadership skills to manage the game. I'm with you on getting someone in their who makes good decisions, I want the kid who can actually make progressions back there. And I don't care which one it is.
Posted by: j.w. | August 02, 2012 at 03:00 AM
If Morris is a poor man's Kenny Kelly, Williams is a rich man's Kirby Freeman. Lol!
So what's a goon to a goblin???
When the most respected senior on offense & a nfl scout both tell you who da man is, respect it. If they see it, I bet Golden does too...
Posted by: CoCane | August 02, 2012 at 05:59 AM
Kiffin has the makings of a Jimmy Johnson jr. Boy got swag. Don't give a damn what nobody thinks of him, just care about winning. That's what we've been missing. Just because I give someone props doesn't mean I actually like em. Just ain't a hater. Better yet, let's stop worrying bout the Kiffins & Sabans . Let's see how GOLDEN FINISHES b4 u start swinging on Golden's rod. The Temple days are over. Having said that I honestly feel these young guns gonna make some noise this year. Still ain't sold on D'no.

Sounds logical to me. I think UM will be a heavier hand than the NCAA, given that Golden doesn't tolerate nonsense.

"The three things that jump out to me that we have identified as areas that we need to make progress in -- and are making progress -- that I would have never guessed going to the University of Miami,'' he said, "are conditioning, strength and nutrition.''
He mentioned the combination of those three factors "and what it means to our team in terms of how we execute and how we play, perform in the fourth quarter and don't atrophy as the season evolves.
"I'm just saying in particular that teams that really don't have discipline in terms of their strength and conditioning, that really don't pay the price in the whole off-season, have a hard time staying strong and being as strong in November [as] they are in September -- have a hard time finishing games. There were a lot of opportunities where we did not finish.
"It's my team. It's not a function of the players; It's a function of what we demand and expect.''
Golden said he is using a nutritionist, educating players about what they should eat and drink, and monitoring their body weights -- "holding them accountable [and] creating more competition in the weight room.
"We didn't have a bencher [who could lift] over 400 [pounds] a year ago and now we have three. We didn't have anybody who could do 225 [pounds] 30 times, a year ago. Zero. Now we have 11.''
Golden said the players are holding each other accountable in the weight room and "not treating conditioning as punitive."
I can't even imagine how bad it was before... even with what has been divulged privately, and what was inferred. This team needed a physical exorcism.

CoCane, that most respected senior on offense wouldn't happen to be the back with a career rushing yardage not even to 800 yards yet would he? Guy's a great teammate but he'll be watching #8 play most of the time when UM falls two games back in the division race halfway through October.
Thanks for reminding me that NFL scouts never, ever, whiff on their player evaluations either, right? Morris' best play from scrimmage has always been the hand-off to a healthy Berry or Miller, neither of those calls are in the playbook now. Job's his to lose, obviously, but if he can't hold off a transfer from mighty Memphis TN, then he probably just can't put it together outside of chuck it long and hope your deep threat makes a play.
Besides, Golden shuffled QB's in his winning seasons like a blackjack dealer at Temple so unless he's made a change in his tendencies, the leash isn't going to be very long for either of the guys who ends up the starter on opening day. Plus, Williams is the slightly affluent man's Brock Berlin, CC, get it right.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 02, 2012 at 08:35 AM
LB, CEO might differ in his opinion, but I know we both agreed Crow didn't look out of place for a guy with a month of college experience in the spring game, which is really all you can ask for at that juncture from him. He'll need time to adjust to the speed of the defense and the reduced margin for error with his passes at this level, but at first blush, he reminds me of a young, in-your-face version of Scott Covington.
Of course, that said, odds are about even right now whether he eventually ends up a TE in a few years but with his work ethic already drawing notice, if somebody does force him to change positions, they're going to have to earn his position spot because a self motivator like that isn't stepping aside for anybody regardless of hype.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 02, 2012 at 08:50 AM
"but at first blush, he reminds me of a young, in-your-face version of Scott Covington."
That helps. I know a lot of about Dewey from the press and his association with Detmer. I know a lot about Williams from tape at Memphis and Morris at UM.

That S&C is embarassing. How did we win 6 games last year. Hell how did we win 9 games in Randy's 3rd year. I think back on that and wonder what could've been had the S&C been in place. Goes to show that Miami is never far off from being a contender in college football.
Nice to see the Miami hurricanes site revamped. All the features mentioned above are all nice additions. Especially the chance to watch press conferences and having applications for smartphones and tablets.

"That S&C is embarassing. How did we win 6 games last year. Hell how did we win 9 games in Randy's 3rd year."
I'll try to give it (the 2009 season) a shot. Try. Also keep in mind we had Jimmy Graham.
Miami/FSU is always contentious. It can go either way. The last play of the game (incompletion) could have been caught. Lucky break. FSU found Shannon out and took vengeance in 2010. #1.
Miami generally does well on Thursdays, and plenty of tape was on the triple option. The team was still hungry, and beat a good team (Tech won 11 games). #2.
I was there for Blacksburg. They were cocky and were absolutely murdered in the rain and away from home. AWFUL.
Oklahoma was without Bradford, and Jones was essentially a mere rookie. Even with bad coaching, the Canes were juiced enough to slip a win. #3.
No Miami team, however poorly coached, should lose to FAMU. #4.
Nor should a Miami team lose to UCF. #5.
Clemson games are usually tight. The team lost focus at the end and the Tigers took it in OT.
Wake lost their starting QB and missed a last second 60 yard field goal. #6.
For UVA, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RidU6ILUQNE
#7.
Butch Davis owned Randy Shannon. Enough said.
Duke and South Florida are what they are. Duke and South Florida. #8 and #9.
Then Wisconsin handed UM consecutive bowl losses.

"Butch Davis owned Randy Shannon. Enough said.
Posted by: LB | August 02, 2012 at 11:05 AM"
Looking in the record book, Butch is 1-1 lifetime against Shannon with the win coming on a red-zone stand with less than a minute to go and the loss being a blowout, so, "owned," is being extremely generous there. Even if you want to ignore the NCAA vacations of the records at UNC, there's a one score margin that could have gone the other way with just three INT's thrown and an upset win pulled off with half the team ineligible and not learning Swahili in the summer.
But hey, owned doesn't go as far as it did before the great recession so we'll just let it slide I guess?

Here's what we know:
Morris has a better record as starter.
Morris is more of a leader.
Morris has a stronger arm, nearly just as accurate, better runner & just more talented.
Morris understands the offense to the point players & coaches are saying he's like a coach himself. Teaching & directing.
Williams is 6'6 & looked like a clear cut back up in the spring, barely better than 2 frosh. (His int's were fugly)
Oh, & NO ONE in the program has mentioned or hinted that Ryan is or should be the "MAN". We've definitely heard that about Mr. Morris...
Why would anyone think Williams is better? ('o')

20. Phillip Dorsett, Wide Receiver, Miami (Fla.)
Another fast youngster with the potential to have a breakout year in 2012, Miami’s Phillip Dorsett has a corroborated 40-yard dash time of 4.42 seconds.
Dorsett only recorded 14 receptions and one score as a freshman in 2011, but he has the type of rare athletic ability to become a huge impact player in Al Golden’s quest to return the Hurricanes to dominance.

U know why Cocane
There is no reason to think Wlliams is the starter now cuz everything points to Morris. But if he can beat out Morris straight-p in training camp then I'll buy it, but only then
Posted by: Cruising | August 02, 2012 at 11:59 AM
LB - nice run down of the 2009 season. I remember being happy that miami beat Oklahoma but thinking they lost Bradford so hopefully it wasn't a fluke. But nonetheless the fact that they had such poor nutritional and S&C habits, they should have still lost to Oklahoma. I guarantee that team was in top physical shape. To me it looks like the talent was there but was never developed.
Going 9-3 with a team that's cocky (for some unknown reason), physically weak, mentally weak, lack nutrition, lack heart, lack a solid
Coaching staff. That's pretty impressive to me. I can guarantee every single team with the exception of duke was stronger than that Miami team. It just makes one wonder had those guys been conditioned properly and trained properly what could have been.

CGNC, if you put down in Jupiter Farms, be aware of the neighbors you are moving near. There are some absolutely backward folk living there.
AVOID Wellington! It is far from being a shopping Mecca like someone previously stated. PBG (relatively close to "The Farms") flat out blows away Welly world for those who like to buy things. The restaurant choices are miles better too up in the, as we old timers say, the north end.
As a lifelong PB county resident and currrnt Jupiter resident, i can

Oklahoma was without Bradford, and Jones was essentially a mere rookie. Even with bad coaching, the Canes were juiced enough to slip a win. #3.
Posted by: LB | August 02, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Bradford, or no Bradford, Miami would've still beat Oklahoma that day. If I recall correctly, didn't Oklahoma score the first 10 points of that game...

The 7Th floor doesn't have to much faith in our defense. We do have some nice pieces, with Chick, Perryman & Buchanan coming back but I'll have to agree the rest will be a mystery. I'm not sold on anyone up front. Porter could be the man but he has stayed hurt. Shayon Green has stayed hurt. Darius Smith will be lucky to be on the field for more than 30 snaps. Luther has been here 3 or 4 years and hasn't done zip & King was hurt last year. If Grimble & Pierre can come along, this would help. I won't mention the freshmen because they are what they are and anything you can get out of them would be a plus. If the line plays average our poor DB's will have a tough time. You have to remember that every team we play has their starting QB back, so if we fail to get pressure on the QB, we had better be putting up some points.

Thats probably because were not lol..you dont go 6-6 and lose star players and expect to be a top 25 team
Posted by: UMike | August 02, 2012 at 01:52 PM
UMike, that's not the point.
Northern Illios and Rutgers even manages a vote or 2. They did not get one vote. And I could care less, I don't think the polls matter until late November anyway.
All I'm saying is if I was Golden I would let his players know that no one expects them to do squat this year.
Time to put some chips on the shoulders...

USC is picked to do what this year? Do they or to they not have a talent laden team strong at just about all the key positions.
USC & Kiffin haters are delusional, they will burn it up this year. Blowing off the importance of highly rated recruits is not facing the truth. More highly rated recruits ends up in having better teams. Check the SEC's top teams as well as USC and others. Yeeeboi sure there are the one or two exceptions like Boise playing one tuff team and 11 creamsicles a year.
You can't coach God given ability into someone if they don't have it. Like I said b4, Kiffin has given Golden a blueprint on how to excel with sanctions, if Golden doesn't follow thru, that's on him.

"That's pretty impressive to me. I can guarantee every single team with the exception of duke was stronger than that Miami team. It just makes one wonder had those guys been conditioned properly and trained properly what could have been. "
You bet!

Perhaps, but Bradford was a transcendent player in college. And we defeated Landry Jones by 1.

Preseason Poll Released (Useless Overreactions 101)
Kansas State and Arkansas are slightly too low.
Texas, Michigan State and Florida are too high.
Unless Notre Dame's QB is great, their schedule won't allow them to finish in the top 25.
If we had FSU's schedule, we'd be rated 7th too (I'm not letting that go).
1-12 may not be in order, but look about right. WVU is at least an 8 win team. I like Wisconsin, but they change QB.
I'd post that up in the UM locker room and let the players see. Not one vote. That's a little spooky.

Florida went 6-6 last year as well and struggled against furman and yet they are ranked preseason top 25 and we don't even get a vote. Oh how the college world has forgotten us. But they will soon remember and regret all slighting us.
Go Canes!

LB,
yes the lower bowl seats are FREAKIN far from the field! It was because of the Marlins. Time to build them closer to the field and
put on a dome! That would make the stadium awesome and give us a true home field advantage.
Posted by: Jack | August 02, 2012 at 03:50 PM
You have to do something to deserve a vote. What have we done recently? We can't even soundly beat the cream puffs in this conference. When you struggle against the Mary's of the world, the B.C.'s, Cough games up against Virginia, why should we get a vote. Over the last several years we could of used alot of stuff for bulletin borad purposes but nothing has worked. For us to get recognition, 3 things have to happen, We have to have a QB that can execute the passing game, we have to play inspired defense and our over-all talent level has to rise. Our QB's have stunk for ever and a day.
Posted by: herbieibis | August 02, 2012 at 03:55 PM
Florida probably gets votes cause their more high profile than us right now..they wont more recently than us, have a big name coach, big name recruits etc etc...when people think if Miami..we went 6-6, no bowl game and our best defensive player and our 2 best offensive players left..why vote for miami?

Posted by: LB | August 02, 2012 at 07:36 AM
What OGV said PLUS this...
Crow = Kosar
Kosar was never "pretty" and neither is Crow BUT he was a FIREY competitor. That is what Crow is. If U know your Hurricane history then U remember that the "not so pretty" Kosar kept the "pretty" Testaverde on the BENCH for one reason: LEADERSHIP.
Players and coaches RESPECT that and Bernie had serious leadership qualities and potential as a result. Crow has that in spades, just like Kosar!
