If you are traveling to sunny South Florida for a University of Miami football game this year then we highly recommend that you stay at the designated Canespace hotel for these events:
The Hampton Inn in the beautiful, upscale and centrally located city of Plantation, Florida.
This award-winning, luxury hotel is situated in an ideal location for college (and professional) football fans and can be found just West of University Drive and just a few blocks North of I-595.
The Hampton Inn is located near numerous restaurants and popular sports bars, is within walking distance of the Broward Mall (for those who like to shop) and is only 20 minutes from Sun Life Stadium via the Florida Turnpike.
Hurricane fans come from near and far and literally take over the hotel lobby and patio before and after UM home games. Rival fans can also be found there for some good-natured trash talking as well.
There are always opportunities for car pooling to the game with other Hurricane for tailgating parties, purchasing tickets and snatching up one of the prized Canespace T-shirts.
Canespace usually throws a "Party On The Patio" after every home game with food, beverages and prizes for UM trivia contests. With a lush, tropical setting and a large pool and jacuzzi, the Hampton Inn patio is THE place to celebrate each Hurricane victory in 2011!
The special "Canespace Rate" is $89 and is valid for all Hurricane fans and also available for any visiting team fans.
For reservations please contact the hotel front desk or speak to: Susan Stern, Director of Sales, Hampton Inn - Plantation: 954-382-4500

Al Golden is Psy Ops embodied. He can deny it all he wants in the press, but when he knows Armbrister has that Aaron Rodgers chip on his shoulder regarding not being recruited or given a chance by the big schools, for basically him and D'Onofrio to come out and say "he's a good guy who must contribute significantly on special teams" rather than ever hinting he could be a breakout stud (hello, size, 6'3 222 right now, rate of change from 192 last year is impressive) and might have a shot for 1st string is the clearest example I can remember.
It sets Armbrister up for the likely role of special teams, while simultaneously driving the guy toward eventually starting at Sam.

Also, I'm with solarcane. Lol at the Randy Shannon Era of "they were flying around out there...need more reps...needs more experience." Juxtapose that to the specificity of Golden and company and it's clear who's actually coaching guys up vs. facilitating raw talent. Probably a reason why Sean Taylor was never used right by Gregg Williams in Washington.
Posted by: Felipe | August 20, 2012 at 09:09 PM
[Clarifications on the above two posts: Golden's doing a bangup job at motivating and getting the most out of the guys there. HIS guys, the ones he brought in, clearly get it. Hence why I don't think Telemaque is starting after October. And Sean Taylor wasn't used right because the way Gregg wanted to use him required the kind of coaching Darren Sharper had gotten over the span of a decade. Once Williams left and Taylor had matured, he was on pace for a six interception *game* against Brett Favre and then we all know what happened RIP].

The latest depth chart has been released.
http://www.nmnathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=658365&SPID=103763&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=205625715&DB_OEM_ID=28700
There are changes from the one released just a couple of days ago.
Golden really looks like he's proved his mettle and addressed the needs of the team. Just how many freshmen made the two-deep?
Lewis, Isidora, Flowers, Duke, Hamilton, Moore, McCord, Crawford, Bush, Jenkins, and Howard. That's 11, and Golden has been on record stating that this is a more mature team than last year.
Add in his recruits from 2011 (Dorsett, Scott, Chickillo, Pierre, Perryman, Ambrister, Paul, Finnie, Botts), and that's 20 members of the two-deep specifically recruited by Golden.
With experienced vets like Morris, Hurns, and Linder (I hope) returning for 2013, the future looks extremely bright. This will be a very good team starting now and going forward. The schedule doesn't do many favors, but the end of the season looks spectacular.
We will miss James, Buchanan, Telemaque, Botts, and Wieclaw. As long as we can replace the special teams, develop the tight end position, and continue to improve linebacker depth... I see no reason why this team can't climb to 10 wins within a year or two.
Pretty sweet.

Canes freshman CB Vernon Davis has sought release; expected to transfer
Hurricanes freshman cornerback Vernon Davis has requested to be released from his scholarship, The Miami Herald has learned, and is expected to transfer to another school as early as Tuesday afternoon.
A source said Davis, a former standout at Miami Coral Reef, let UM know of his intentions on Friday.
Reached by phone, Davis' mother confirmed her son was considering transferring from the program, but didn't want to elaborate on where he might be considering going.
"Nothing is official yet," Theodofia Davis said. "I'd prefer you talk to him about it."
Davis wasn't listed on the Canes' most recently released depth chart Monday, but remains on the team roster. He was one of eight incoming defensive backs the program brought in this season.
A UM spokesman said that as of 10:30 a.m., Davis was still on the team.
But obviously, things can change quickly.
A three-star recruit according to Rivals, ESPN and Scout.com, Davis was an All-Dade First Team selection by The Miami Herald as a senior.
Stay tuned.

"Plus he prolly knows more CB studs are on the way next year."
Heh. I think it's all great for the CB position. Competition, competition. Keeps the good ones in, the uninspired out. I love it. Brandon McGee could have easily transferred the past two or three years, but he's staying. That says a lot, especially with the Tracy Howard fans (cough, Ohio) calling for a change.
Put the bravest and nastiest players out there, coach them up, and put the fear of God in opposing QB's. Miami is going to be a frightening team to throw on in a year or so, perhaps sooner.

"Right offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson is still missing in action at Greentree Field since leaving last week for his second funeral this month in his home state of Minnesota.
Henderson, listed as 6-8 and 340 pounds, is again missing on the latest depth chart, but coach Al Golden said Monday that “Seantrel is part of our football program, and Seantrel has got to get his house in order before he can help us — and that’s the truth.
“I mean, he’s got a lot of things going on. I’m going to keep it private with him right now. I think I owe him that. He’s got to get himself together. Then he can help the Miami Hurricanes.”
Henderson practiced once this camp in full pads — last Tuesday. He sustained a concussion in a car accident just before fall camp began.
Injury report
WR Allen Hurns (head), TE Dyron Dye and CB Larry Hope wore yellow (limited) jerseys Monday; DL Corey King wore a red (no-contact) jersey.

Vern Davis, was a camp boy and must of been a one day wonder at the camp.If he's packing in this quick, he must know, even with a redshirt, he wouldn't be able to cut it here. You can't hit on them all and that leaves us with another ship that we can get a more highly qualified player.
Trell please don't make me into a prophet by jumping to the GOFUS.
I like CurbStreet he actually stole my moniker, Herbie but that being said, WHAT THe F is that dude on to say THE Crims would beat USC in the SHIP, if they both got there. First, FSU won't ever, playing in the ACC, see a QB close to Barkleys caliber, nor the WR's they have. FSU does, on paper, have some serious DEE fire power but they will choke against somebody and Manuel stays hurt. The SEC won't rep in the ship this year. If it ain't us playing, which it won't be, I say Okie Dokie vs Traveler is the game I'd like to see for all Da marbles.

Vernon Davis' high school coach said the freshman cornerback -- headed to West Virginia -- no longer trusted UM coaches
Vernon Davis grew up dreaming of playing for the Miami Hurricanes. But that dream has apparently died after a few weeks of training camp.
The freshman cornerback from Miami Coral Reef received his release from scholarship Tuesday and according to his former high school coach will be headed to West Virginia on Wednesday morning.
"He just felt like he couldn't trust their coaches anymore," Coral Reef coach Chevas Clements said. "He wasn't happy. He saw how he had slid down the depth chart and how UM was going out and getting all these commitments from guys like [Miami Northwestern's] Artie Burns and [Southridge's] Jamal Carter. When was he going to play?"

Isn't the U supposed to to go out and get commitments? Isn't the young man supposed to compete for his position? He doesn't trust the coaches anymore? Did they tell him they weren't going to recruit any other dbs? Give me a break and get a clue!

I guess Vern thought that we weren't going to bring in anymore recruits, since he signed on the dotted line. Obviously he thought more of himself than the coaches did. Just the kind of kid we don't need. Entitlement might be a word these kids are used to in high school but there are several cocks of the walk in college and for all the non-hackers, there is always the WVU's of the world.

Brian Bowsher has been named the Digital Media Strategist for the University of Miami Athletics Department, as announced Tuesday by Associate Athletic Director for Communications & Marketing Chris Freet.
“We are elated to add Brian to the external team here at the University of Miami,” Freet said. “Brian had a burning desire to be a Miami Hurricane because of the foundation we have built and the engaged fan base we have the pleasure of conversing with on multiple platforms, every single day.
“Partnered with our experienced team and several new leaders, I am confident that our fan base will see and feel an increase in energy to all things digital,” Freet said.
Bowsher arrives in Miami after spending the past five years with Marquette University’s Athletic Department. During his time with the Golden Eagles, Bowsher began as a marketing assistant and rose to Director of Marketing & Sales, a position he has held for more than three years. He earned his MBA from Marquette’s Graduate School of Management in 2011.
“I’ve admired UM’s online initiatives over the past couple of years, and I’m excited to be able to continue and build upon the success of the department,” Bowsher said.

I know that the season is about to start and it is considered blasphemy to talk recruiting right about now but Rivals just released their latest TOP 250 2013 player list and it appears that the Canes have a legitimate shot at the following 12 players:
#7 Hargreaves
#15 Thomas
#18 McQuay
#39 Alexander
#96 Olsen*
#107 Kirkland
#135 Bostwick
#139 Collins
#167 Cunningham
#173 Burns*
#227 Carter*
#245 Grace
* indicates the 3 current verbal commits to UM.

UNFORTUNATE NEWS AT NOTRE DAME:
Notre Dame cornerback Lo Wood will miss the season with an Achilles tendon injury, leaving a secondary already short on experience without one of its starters.
Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly says Wood ruptured his Achilles while backpedaling and turning to run Monday in practice.
"I feel terrible for him," Kelly said. "He's a young man that we all wanted to see get this opportunity that he's worked so hard for. But I feel really good about the other five corners we have as well. We've got five scholarship corners that we believe can play the kind of football necessary for us to be successful."
The junior is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday and isn't expected back until spring practice.
The Irish expect to be strong up front defensively, led by star linebacker Manti Te'o and defensive ends Kapron Lewis-Moore and Stephon Tuitt.
There already was uncertainty in the secondary, which lost Harrison Smith and Robert Blanton to the NFL. Both were drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, Smith in the first round and Blanton in the fifth round.

Posted by: 86Cane | August 21, 2012 at 04:28 PM
I guess Vern could of used that $55 towards gas money to moonshine country.
-My man OGV, always quick to jump on the Herb, Just like last week when I was talking about Earthquake, I know you're on his Conastoga but where is he now? Barkley ain't overrated, that doesn't mean he's going to be a great pro but as a college QB and the talent he has a around him, he'll light the sky up, now if that's overrated, so be it. It won't happen 2 years in a row.
86, since the turds verbals are dropping left and right, they've lost 5 in the last couple of weeks, Maybe Vern did us a favor by leaving an extra ship for Hargreaves. Will get Cunningham, Bostwick & Grace and maybe kirkland. We already have Olsen, Burns & Carter and we"ll have Collins for a little while longer. We'll need a back-up plan for him. Outside on Thomas & Alexander and no chance at McQuay. That's what the Herb sees in the crystal ball.
Posted by: herbieibis | August 21, 2012 at 04:56 PM
Herbie: I really like our chances on Hargreaves and McQuay. ;-)

On the day before fall classes begin, the Miami Hurricanes held their fifth and final #CanesCamp two-a-day practice Tuesday at the Greentree Practice Fields. Tuesday culminated in practices 21 and 22 of fall camp.
“I’m enjoying camp and I’m enjoying the continuity on our staff,” second-year head coach Al Golden said. “I think everybody’s communication is better, our trust is better. We didn’t practice as well (Monday) as I would like – although it’s hard to say that as a blanket statement because a lot of guys made progress (Monday).”
The Hurricanes practiced in full pads during Tuesday morning’s session, which lasted approximately two hours. In the afternoon, the Canes practiced in jersey tops and shorts for 80 minutes.
“Overall, it’s been a very fun camp,” Golden said. “What (our players) lack in age and experience, they are making up in want-to and team maturity.”
The fall semester officially begins Wednesday on the University of Miami campus, signifying the final day of #CanesCamp. Miami’s final fall camp practice will begin at 9:25 a.m. on the Greentree Practice Fields.

Must be more to the Davis story than playing time. WV signed 6 DB in last year’s class and if 2 walk-ons is in starting rotation then the only difference between the two programs are the mountain air versus the ocean air (change of scenery).

What sanctions? USC No. 1 in AP poll
By RALPH D. RUSSO AP
Southern California is No. 1 in the AP Top 25, tossing off the weight of NCAA sanctions and returning to a familiar place in the rankings - with a boost from LSU's problems.
USC earned the top spot in The Associated Press' preseason college football poll for the seventh time in school history and the first time in five seasons, edging out No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 LSU.
The Trojans received 25 of a possible 60 first-place votes from a media panel in a close vote. USC received 1,445 points. Defending national champion Alabama had 17 first-place votes and 1,411 points while LSU, the Crimson Tide's SEC rival, got 16 first-place votes and 1,402 points.
Oklahoma was fourth with a single first-place vote and Oregon was fifth. Michigan, at No. 8, received the only other first-place vote.
The Tigers were poised to start the season No. 1 before Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu got kicked off the team a week ago.

The fact Portis made it to his prime years at all was mildly surprising to me, wasn't sure he could take the NFL abuse at his size but apparently he could . . . to a point.

Yahoo sports is reporting Drew Rosehaus may be having financial issues in his corporation. An ex employee is suing him and his brother for 1 mil in commissions. After the shat Drew pulled last year with UM players it is time someone busts his arrogant ass! Much respect to ex Cane Clinton Portis who has officially announced his retirement.

To a point? The guy could have been a top 5 all time RB had he stuck in Denver. Had anyone signed him he could easily had been over 11-12 thousand yards. what do you want him to do to get past your ....point? What is your point 20,000 thousand yards and 5,000 carries?
Vernon did not trust the coaches?... GTHOH
The coaches every time they talk to the public every recruiting cycle nearly every interview they talk about recruiting someone to beat you out, this is UM, did he think we would just let him be 4th string and leave it at that, obviously he was not getting it done so we will recruit some studs. Unbelievable, we tell a kid exactly what we will do and then we do it and then they say they can not trust us lol Excuse us for trying to be competitive and win a few ball games.

Portis is retiring due to injuries with a few good year left in him. That's the point Hassan. Maybe if the comissioner's office had tampered down on the leaving your feet type of contact on tackles like they have recently before he was drafted he'd still have a couple hundred carries left in him.
Actually, it's probably better for him to get out now without the extra CTE accumulation anyway, we all know Clinton was never the most normal type of personality in the first place, could be trouble for him post-playing-career if his neurons aren't all there more than they've already suffered.
