OGV - your my boy and crack me up. So as some of you know, I had to bail during the game but happened to DVR it and OMG am I glad I did.
I just watched the 2nd half and here is my take
1) Who ever was calling the game sucked ass
2) The refs sucked ass
3) Our guys showed "no quit"
4) Watching a game on DVR kicks ass when your team wins like it did tonight cause I get to watch it over and over and over.
I will be watching this game for some time. I told you AG went into that locker room and replayed the Sileo rant at half time to fire the team up. I can't believe I can still type after 14 captn-n-cokes (or was it 16)...oh well.
GO CANES.....

We are brothers from different mothers.
Posted by: 86Cane | September 23, 2012 at 01:16 AM
That may be one of the top 5 Hurricane games ever played! Seriously, to be such an underdog, and to pull it off, I can't remember a game where we were such an underdog and won. I have watched the game replay several times and I could watch that bthing for the rest of my life.
It is what we are all about as Canes fans, fighting until the end. But you BELIEVED in us SO MUCH and frankly I had some doubts, but I also could see a formula for victory. It wasn't the formula I imagined but it was great. I haven't been MORE proud of a Hurricane team that I was today. This was special!!!

The bottom line is supposedly people who know things, people like college football guru Phil Steele, the Las Vegas odds-makers and even The Pope have no reason to believe that the Miami Hurricanes will beat Georgia Tech this Saturday in Atlanta. But I think they are all wrong.
I think that this Miami Hurricane team has nothing to fear but fear itself. And if I am right, you will never hear the end of it!

Posted by: 86Cane | September 23, 2012 at 01:41 AM
Really, I have watched the game twice, and may watch it a third time tommorow, that was special. The heart, the courage, the resiliency, it was phenomenel. I had chills when Shockey caught the game winner against FSU, but this was even better. But that was offense wins over a defense. This was BOTH offense and defense winning a game.
Our special teams were not so good and yet the two units kicked ass in the fourth quarter. I don't like that it came to that but this was a special performance. If I still lived in Miami, I would greet the team bus on the campus. That is his how special this performance was.

Anyone thinks that we lost to KState because they are a top 10 team?
Posted by: calGaryCane | September 23, 2012 at 02:02 AM
Terrence, considering I thought they were going 6-6 to begin with, sure. LOL. Really, it's hard to say this year, the team gets in a big hole, they come back, they get in a big hole, they get buried by a good team, they get a big lead, they bury themselves with turnovers and defensive lapses then come back to win in a tough road environment.
Let's look at it right now:
NC State - maybe.
Notre Dame - not likely but they'll go down swinging if they do. I'm sure the refs will be firmly in the 'home' team's back pocket though come game time.
North Carolina - maybe, UNC has nothing to play for, motivation could be a factor for them.
FSU - rivalry game so I never count an underdog at home out but they look title contention caliber.
VT - rivalry game so again, never count a home underdog out, UM is 10-1 (loss to UVA last year) all time Thursday night, so let's call this one a maybe.
at UVA - today this looks like a win a lot more than it looked like a loss before the season started.
USF - they're a mess. Rivalry game for them though so this looks like a win today but we're a long way from today at this point in our projections.
at Duke - the best Duke team since Spurrier won the ACC with them, still should be a win.
So I'm seeing 3 more probable wins which gets UM to 6 and a self imposed bowl ban, then maybe another 2 or 3 wins putting them in the 8-9 range if they can pull a few more surprises out against some favorites and play well at home?
If UM somehow wins the division, I think they play the title game and then if they lose to FSU for a second time or drop a rematch of their upset October 20, they take their bowl ban, but obviously if they shock the ACC with a conference title, take the BCS bowl and let the NCAA get out the spanking paddle afterwards.

Good morning party people! I was thinking that maybe this year, the year we least expect it, they make it to the ACC title game. Of course, we cannot have any more significant injuries.
I think AG needs to lose the shirt and tie on the sidelines - by half time it looks rumpled and no one dresses on the sidelines like that in the south LOL
Posted by: CGNC | September 23, 2012 at 08:40 AM

Oh and big LOL to all the Swasey doubters who thought he couldn't get the team in condition
Posted by: CGNC | September 23, 2012 at 08:44 AM
The ACC Coastal Division title is a real possiblity for the first time for the Canes. A win against NC State will put them in the drivers' seat. It is very doable, as long as Golden can keep this young team focused so they do not have another performance like they did in KState.
The only team left on the Canes schedule that really concerns me is FSU (they are loaded), but the Canes will not roll over.
The Canes beat a very good GT team yesterday, and Golden's program deserves a lot of credit.

From the Rumbleseat
"Hell, the momentum was going so far in Miami’s direction that they won the toss going into overtime. On the first play of OT, the Tech offense showed some life with a 14-yard carry by Robbie Godhigh to the Miami 11. From there, it became 3rd and 2, which saw Tevin Washington rush for 1 yard, and then carry again on 4th down carry for no gain. From postgame interviews, Washington said that the initial call for the play was a “QB Follow” (a QB Sneak, if you will). The defense shifted, and he checked to a toss play. The defense shifted back, but as fate would have it, Tevin’s been coached to never check twice. Instead of checking, he just went for the original play, and you know the rest"

86..check your mail
Posted by: UMike | September 23, 2012 at 09:29 AM
It's true that UM was more talented. But even the more talented team is very, very unlikely to win if it's down 17 on the road, to a team with a kick-ass running attack, unless it believes that it's still got another gear that it can shift into. Unless the team can remind itself, in the famous words of the great Ed Reed, "we got this!"
And you don't know, for a fact, that you "got this" if you ain't been there before. They had to believe this thing without hard evidence.
Coaching.
I've been pretty freaking skeptical that Al Golden's gift of gab was as useful in motivating his team as it's been in impressing the scribe -- not as skeptical as OGV, but pretty skeptical. But Al convinced these ridiculously inexperienced 'Canes that they had another gear, and he convinced them to use it.
I don't know where this team's season ends up, but I feel very confident now that next year, they will be a serious force. 'Cause now they know what they're capable of.

Ready to eat my crow, I didnt think we could make great defensive calls in the clutch but we did for the end of the 3rd and all the way into the 4th and OT. No'D gets alot of heat from me and he gets alot of credit here also. Hopefully it carries over to NC State. It was a genius idea from Fisch to max protect on those deep passes, TECH likes to bring pressure so if they don't get there, its o ooh!I love how Golden implants the importance of the coastal games to these players and it was great to see them never giving up. Even though i didn't think we would win pre game i had a great feeling, there was alot of chippyness and extra stuff after the play, notably Bush and Shayon Greene. Thats attitude we haven't had in a while. Hope we go from strength to strength. BTW EJ44 is a star...di you see that one hit he put on Washington and he was slow to get up?......thats what the hell am talking bout, if he is gonna run, punish that bitch. That changed the game momentum. Ill rewatch the game in a few mins so i can analyse instead of cheering....and cursing lol

I see success coming to the U again. That victory was revisiting the U spirit of the former days. Im sure that Al s formula will be successful when we get the depth we need. Its the first time in years that I saw us manhandle an opponent in the fourth q.
This victory is a little different than just thinking it was because we have GTs number. I saw guys making plays when it counted which reminded me of the machine like dominance together with the bull dog attitude that shows me the difference between these players that Al recruited and the last 8 yrs of our downward spiral. Just think of what this team is gonna be like when they get to be juniors... along with the U tough off season workouts... its gonna be fun to watch again.

the palm beach post has a photo of the celebration and the caption reads stephen Morris, it is clearly Tyriq McCord, both are #17 but McCord looks nothing like Morris, you would think the gator who has is Miami's longest serving beat writer would know this.

Posted by: mi@mic@ne | September 23, 2012 at 11:28 AM
A while before the game I was in the stadium looking around and as always I have my silver chain with a cross on...well this GT fan in a dam bowtie says "was that chain and illegal gift or what, I don't undrstand"...so I looked back and said "if was a gift from your mom"...showing his college education, he says "but I don't understand"...so I reply.."don't worry...she does" haha

Ya think? Although that may be the editors fault.

It doesnt make sense to me that we dont have a corner coming from the outside in on that option pitch... its giving them 7 yrds of open field...

I was a little worried about the run D, but they did a decent job. It is so hard to defense the option; you cannot shut it down when it is run so well...but you can contain it and we did. I was impressed with the intensity and no quit. Hey when was the last time we played hard? Really hard and wanted to win? Never under Clappy or Onionhead; it went bad that long ago. I know OGV, you cannot stand winning since your beloved Onionhead got the ax....but its going to happen more and more....so try to enjoy it.
Soup, great call, you got a finger on the pulse as always. We should enjoy the win, and move on. Its time to get ready for NCSU we need to press on. Great team win for us. No we are not ranked, we are no relevant, or in the mix....but lets keep getting better together. This is a team....as opposed to the 4 years of MNW/Shannon smugness/arrogance/Bulls*#t!!! JMO

Next week the Canes will face NC State, who has one of the best passers in the ACC. NC State is basically a more talented and better coached version of Boston College.
We will learn a lot about our Canes next week. If they come out and win with a solid performance, then I feel comfortable about chances to win the ACC Coastal because the other teams the Canes play in the Coastal or comparable. It will also show that Golden has his team focused.
It will take another complete game to beat them. Canes need to eliminate the turnovers while generating some of their own. The secondary needs some picks and the DL needs to put some pressure on Glennon.
By the way, I just love the way the Canes won this game. Not only did Golden have them focused and conditioned to make a run, the two critical plays in OT show us a difference between the old Canes and the new Canes. A fourth down stop with the DLs and 44 all doing their job up front - Then, that off tackle run by Mike James, where OL stood up their man and each Cane executed their block, especially the fullback on the LB#54. I love to see us win battles up front - that was a think of beauty!

Leonard Hankerson (Miami) vs Terance Newman (KSU) btw.
Vengeance is upon thee.

Our d backs are still not getting good run recognition... no pursuit when the ball gets outside of the d end
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | September 23, 2012 at 12:25 PM
And regardless of what one may think, a corners first responsibility is the run, turning the back inside, where pursuit should be coming like a freight train!!!

Just watched the game again on ESPN3 and noticed that Golden made the girl who tapes the Raising Canes footage, leave the team circle after Lewis got hurt. This gesture says a lot about his character concerning PR and seeking attention. He didn't seem to want the dramatic "One For the Gipper" moment. He is a good guy.

I loved that 65 yard td pass to Phillip Dorsett from Tevin Washington early in the 1st quarter! At least thats what the commentator said yesterday. Then his clown ass partner went on to say that Mike James is only 183lbs, confusing James with Duke of course!

D backs have got to cover more field ..too much zone mentality...always keep a receiver at arms length and more pursuit outside the hash marks. We need more guys on the bicycle

What a classic game. My son is a freshman at Tech this year, so, out of deference to family, sat in the parents section with my GT golf shirt on (sweated my ass off - it was hot as hell!)
They put the families (it was Parents Weekend) way up in Section 214, high above the north end zone, and the whole time I was wishing I was with the crazy 'Cane fans down in the SE corner of the endzone. I was surrounded by families decked out in khakis, bow-ties, shirts and sportscoats, young preppie kids all dressed up for their frats. Meanwhile, the Miami fans had the old #52 throwbacks, the Andre Johnson jerseys, Frank Gore classics (or were those Kyle Wright jerseys lol) Anyway, did someone say culture clash??
Never thought Morris could lead them back. He either rifles the ball too hard or throws too low on those WR slants. Nice touch on the long balls though. 4 sophs on the OL line-can you imagine in they all stay and how good they'll be in 2 more years? ST were terrible. Corners played the option well although looked shaky on those deep routes. 8 TFL? That's awesome against Johnson's offense. Believe we averaged more yards per carry than Tech. And on the 4th down stop in OT, Chick got great penetration to allow Johnson to pop Washington.
Still too many penalties (Does anyone know why Golden got the unsportsmanlike penalty that led to Tech's first TD?) Too much yardage given up. Need to get the TE going one of these years. But overall a great "heart" win. That team did not quit on one single play during the game, not one. Eddie Johnson, Chick, Duke could've played with the old guard. Love their make-up.
Need to shore up the pass D prior to facing Glennon next week. Kid can sling the ball.
What a satisfying win. Cane fans that showed up yesterday really made a statement, although outnumbered and scattered throughout the stadium. It was obvious that the team and staff fed off the support.

We were like a boa constrictor yesterday. We slowly rapped around them and in the fourth q we squeezed the life out of them with our strength.
