SJMPARMAN

With a win next week, we will be 2-1. I think some naysayers thought we might be 0-2 after the first two games. Alot of improvement needed of course, but hey, lets just move on and be positive.

86Cane

Swagalicious! What's up? U still headed to the UNC game with your family and the rest of us? We are still ALL in!

And I thought Gold wouldn't tarnish!

Laquinton

Im over today. Go canes.. We alll knew you wouldn't go undefeated but it was just the magnitude of the loss that hurts. Tits week will be interesting how the coaches and players respond. This Can some very powerful motivation as the rest of the nation laughs and mocks Miami. Hats off to ksu and ab#4.

SJMPARMAN

What week? lol

86Cane

Golden not being completely honest in his post-game interview. He's dodging, hedging, avoiding and being as vague as possible.

Seems full of self doubt, much like me.

Laquinton

My bad.. This week

mi@mic@ne

This is the only profession where winning is everything... thats the bottom line

WWIM

somebody ask what the All-American QB Chase Rettig did this week after performing surgury on da canes???

not so good compared to last week
16-32 50% passing for 219 yds 6.8 yps (yds per attempt)

well it must have taken a helluva talented defense to slow him down from his 441yd performance against us right??? So who was this talented defensive team u ask? Big Bad Maine

solarcane

Remember that line in Red Tails?

"Experience is a tough teacher, it gives you the exam first and then the lesson."

Laquinton

Well to be honest.. Maine is...

Okay Willie will... Remember when golden said he would want to play more 3-4 ... Yeah Miami isn't built like Alabama... Soo 4-3... They should have played a 4-4 today and my bad... Gaines, highsmith and Tyrone c looked terrible.

Montreal-Cane

CEO i couldn't agree more with you.

dg

If D'No is not fired by Monday, Golden should resign himself. I stopped watching after the first quarter. Losing is one thing but getting your heart taken is another.

SJMPARMAN

Does anyone recall any linebacker blitzes today? I don't.

Felipe

haha that was awesome, best type or phone spellcheck correct ever Laquinton

Montreal-Cane

Louisiana Monroe won over Arkansas

solarcane

Man Golden looks beat.

Larry's 2-0 after two weeks in. meep meep

Felipe

Wow great news for Bret Bielema,

Wisconsin looking like a horrible 1-win offense just got pushed to the back page of the newspapers thanks to Louisiana Monroe shocking Arkansas.

Bielema = defensive coach = nothing without Paul Chryst (off coord from last year) and Russell Wilson. About time the locals, you know, stop giving him unwarranted contract extensions and took notice.

...and of course they won't courtesy of the Razorbacks.

nemo2002

Over 500 posts on the last blog?

Hey, no one say that 'Spacers are apathetic.

nemo2002

What did U expect?
We were an average team (at best) last year, and we lost many of our best players to graduation and the NFL draft. (Meanwhile, Arthur Brown is an All American; Storm Johnson is playing well at UCF; and the local QB some of U didn't want, Teddy Bridgewater, is putting up some really impressive passing stats at Louisville).
Do U really believe the "U Tough" twaddle or Golden's "culture change" craptrap?
Let's face facts. Our running game today was anemic; our passing game was pedestrian; our defense was looser than Madonna's you know what; and our coaching staff was _________ [expletive deleted].
Did U ever think U'd live to see the day when, 2 games into the season, U're already doubtful of a winning season?

Montreal-Cane

Jim Mora great coaching job!

Felipe

One positive note for me: I did call for KSU to hang a 50 spot on Miami. Too bad I called for Miami to match them blow for blow. We'll get better.

Great win for Mora. Just last year that team was a *lost* cause even if in the PAC championship by default (USC banned). The fight with Arizona was comedy.

solarcane

UNC loses today in conference, GT lost in conference VT and us are in 1st place in the Coastal and we can't get out of our own way it's just sad

The Dude

The way I see it is 1 of 2 things are happening here: (1) The coaching staff has no idea how to teach these kids how to play football or (2) These kids arent motivated enough to learn. I think it is (1) but if it is (2) all I would do is gas them all week at practice. And I mean all week. Miami should be able to take the week of against BCC and still win. This staff has lost a ton of respect in book and has a LONG way to go to get it back.

SJMPARMAN

Good point Solar. This wasn't a conference loss even if it was a stinker of a game. I keep thinking about this team and think it will get better and not worse. When you have a veteran team, you improve alot between games 1 and 2. When you have a roster loaded with you, I think the improvement will occur later, and hopefully by game 4 or 5 we will settle down and mature. Game 3 is Bethune Cookman and that is a win.

After that, we play GT. I watched that VT GT game and came away completely unimpressed with GT, even though they should have beat VT. They are better defensively but worse offensively than they were a year ago. They don't have the dominant inside runner, or blockers, they need. Paul Johnson has coached Chan Gailey's players for a couple of years, but now he has to rely on his own recruits. He is just not that good at recruiting.

I kind of like our chances there. After that, it will be a crap shoot.

dg

Golden wanted a ticket to the big show and got it..Know he seems shell shocked! Worse defense I have ever seen! Golden was Al Groh's D Co at VA so he should be able to call his own d..D'No must be on crack/meth or have a gambling problem..he damn sure is not on our side! Please call Butch Davis and bring him in as a consultant. We'll be on probation anyway so how much worse can it get

solarcane

Randy Shannon pitched a shutout in his debut as TCU DC btw

solarcane

as linebackers coach, sorry

Montreal-Cane

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- For the second straight week, Bethune-Cookman erased a double-digit deficit as the Wildcats downed South Carolina State 27-14 to go to 2-0.

BigTimeCane

So ucla won but we lost? Doesn't mora have to deal with the same prob
Ems we do?

I was a big big fan of golden but today really made me question his overall football acumen. I know he turned temple around but something about this game revealed truths that we may have been hesitant to say and that is, maybe he's just not a good coach. You can't have terrible defense for a whole year, come back have terrible defense again against BC and get crushed by KSU and say everything is ok, we will fix it blah blah blah. I just want to see results. I understand we are young and have terrible dline play but my goodness was that the worst defense to ever step foot on a football field. Honestly and maybe this is overreaction on my part. If I were golden I would fire d'onofrio, swassey, kehoe, Franklin, and anyone else associated with that defense and offensive line. He needs to scout solid coaches and get those guys before his best friend sinks that ship with his horrible play calling. I still think golden can turn things around but he really needs to look at his staff and wonder why he isn't getting the results mora got today at ucla or UF against Texas A&m.

SJMPARMAN

I was thinking earlier the Dude that this is the end of the honeymoon for the Al Golden era. He needs to put up or shut up. He is a great talker, no doubt, but all coaches are judged by the product you put on the field and how well you coach it. He and his staff failed miserably today.

Football is about X's and O's and it is also not about X's and O's. You have to be fundamentally correct in your strategy. We were not today, especially on the defensive side of the ball. We were frequently outflanked defensively to the point that someone had to make an outstanding play for the defense called to work. And certan personnel decisions on who played and when were questionable. That is X's and O's stuff.

The other part is equally important. You have to light a fire each week for your team to play. This is where JJ was a monster. He didn't even bother to get the team fired up for Rice but against Syracuse or other Big East and other ranked opponents, you would have thought the world would end if the Canes didn't win. He sold it to the players and he sold it to the media. He knew his players read the papers and watched the news. He wanted them thinking the same thing to be on the same page.

This should have been a huge revenge game for us. The players should have come into the game not celebrating the brick in the wall but how they would destroy K State like teams have done in the past. The message should have not been about being equal to K State but how we have progressed to a point that teams like K State are deserving of our respect but we are too good for them. I am not saying we pick the pre-game fights like we did in the JJ era, but you want to see some fire in the eyes of the players. But every time Jimmy did it, he would also call a road trip a business trip, reminding the team that details matter.

I honestly believe Al Golden has the ability to lead this University back to football greatness. But he has to grow a pair. He has the right guy on offense, and his attention to special teams are Jimmyesq. But he needs to stop this defensive calamity before it costs him his job. Because one or two more losses where the opponents go for 500 yards of offensive will soon lead to banners flying over Sunlife or whatever they want to call it these days.

Be good Canespacers.

Sleep on it and try to sleep well.

New blog in the AM...

SJMPARMAN

BTC you are right. But I would go as far as you do. I don't think they ever made a commitment to the running game. They were down 14 points again before the blink of the eye. And while I love his potential, lets fact it, the Duke didn't play well today. They put balls in his hands and he dropped them in the passing game. That will improve in the future, I assure you.

Mike James is a nice guy, great smile, great family history or whatever but he is not an every down running back upon which you base your totally offensive philosophy upon. Storm was that guy, or Duke (in a couple of years) or Edge, or Stephen Mcguire or guys who can make defenses respect run support when they design the scheme. Mike James is a three yards per carry back. I don't know his stats from a career perspective but I would guess it isn't much better than that.

You have to run to set up what you want to do in the passing game. 40 yards of running game offense in a game loses you the game. He might be a great person but he hasn't been the answer since he was given the job..

SJMPARMAN

I am going off line here before I make the mistake of saying things that I wake up the next day and regret having said. You all Canes fans know what I mean. I think this team has enormous potential, it might be as talented a team as I can remember in 10 years. But the players have to do their thing, and the coaches have to BELIEVE how lucky they were to get the talent. Beyond that, I bid you all a good night and lets stay positive, believe in the players, and Coach Golden to make the right decisions about what is best for this team.

solarcane

And while I love his potential, lets fact it, the Duke didn't play well today. They put balls in his hands and he dropped them in the passing game. That will improve in the future, I assure you.

sjm you are correct.
I mentioned the other day lets see how Duke does against college senior All Americans (#4) before we start counting on him to win a bunch of games as a freshman.

He will become a real good back, and leave for the NFL.
We will be a 6-6 team with sanctions in place and Golden will have his hands full trying to get premier high school players to even consider Miami ( formerly known as The U to their parents )

Zakkee

We need a coach like this..excuse the language

SJMPARMAN

Solar - Do you think AB is an All American? I know it has been a long day for you and I but really? He is a decent player. But an All American? He was just okay today. I woulda preferred him to our middle LB today but he wasn't a difference maker.

You just love to instigate stuff don't you? You have always been the realist on the blog and we need that. I can't remember the number of times that 12-0 seasons by all blog members were predicted when you were right about how those expectations were not true.

I never thought this was a 10 win team, or even a 9 win team. But dangit Solar, I think hoping has a value in itself. If you are a fan, it is always better to drink a tad bit of koolaid than drink the poison. But you are probably right that the poison may be more realistic for this year.

SJMPARMAN

I don't think Duke will leave for the NFL. Quite frankly, he should have left after last week, lol. He has a ton of maturity to gain before he is NFL ready. It was the same for Lamarr last year. If your goal is to be a 4th round pick, leave early. If your goal is to be a 1st rounder, and make a great salary and more important with a guaranteed contract, you leave when you are ready. He is not NFL ready by a long shot.

His parents need to understand that the money will come when it is due. It will require them to be patient and wait until he develops into an NFL back. Lamarr Miller was not an NFL back when he turned pro. I would argue that he wasn't even a great college back when he did it. But that whole class who turned to the NFL too early may have been the greatest example of guys who were mislead or deceived about their talent based upon performance. And performance mattters to the NFL.

Hassan

AL Golden is our coach, I do not want another coach, stop with who our coach should be. He is going to get this fixed. Our OL is young our DL is young and they go beat. They will get strong and smarter and tougher. Lets support the team they need it, come out to the BCC game and support them. The young guys will learn where they need to be and they will play in a system, if coach can get Temple to be a top notch d he can do it here. KSU is a good team and we played them at home. We will take our lumps but those guys are going to get better, some guys wont be here. If you can not play the right way you can not play for Coach Golden.

Felipe

Agreed Hassan.

SJMPARMAN

Well Hassan, your post would have been appropriate about Randy a few years ago. But this is really not about Head Coaches as coordinators, and nothing inspires fan more than blatant ineptitude. And that is what we saw today. So as I said earlier, Al you either deliver competency on that side of the ball or banners will be flying. I don't like the banners but I know how these things work.

Tsully76

Amen Hassan

HurricaneWarrior

I know everyone is blaming the defense for this game but the offense did not do much either. The defense was on the field all day. Our Defense sucks, we already knew that from last year and game 1 showed we are not any better this year.

Duke bailed out our offense last week with his 2 big runs. But no heroics this week, his drops hurt and his returns were consistently behind the 20 until he broke one after the game was over. I love the boy but he got a long ways to go before we crown him... I was reminded that the only true freshman to rush for more in their debut was Javaris James. I hope he has a better career than that. I think he will but he needs to stay focused.

Morris really made the OL look bad today with his decision making. He reminded me a lot of JH today... holding on to the ball too long, staring down WRs, running out of the pocket, not throwing the ball away, no pocket awareness. He has a stronger arm but very little touch, although there were a few drops again there were a few catches that the WR had to lay out for. The first sack was all him, he had good protection and ran out of the pocket into the defender (I watched the play 4Xs and could not figure out why he took off). A few of the sacks he either held on to the ball for too long for refused to throw it away. His decision making was very poor today. He has not been the INT machine that Jacory was but he has not exactly been a playmaker either. Hopefully he gets better with more experience but he will be in some tough situations this year with our defense.

Golden talked about not been able to establish the run game but we are never going to do that by throwing bubble screens all day and losing yards or dropping passes on first downs. I love Mike James but I have never seen anyone get tackled behind the line of scrimmage as much as him.

Man it was tough watching that game, I could not believe how bad this team played. My heart tells me they are better than what we saw but it will take a while before I can believe in this team again.

360Cane

Yes, this team has talent but not top to bottom like y'all think. I'm might start believing the troll. Y'all are delUsional.

Talent for a #15, #16 and 14 playing from a #36 recruiting class. Y'all need to wake up to reality and get out of the past.

We are exactly what we are. A 6-6 team. That is all.

I picked 8-4 but that because I'm a homer and a little bias. But facts are facts. We have a NCAA storm cloud over our heads and average to below average players all around.

Duke is great! But until we are able to redshirt players like Duke. We're going to continue down this road.

But you know, we need a new coach to coach this average to below average team...

360Cane

Now, if Golden and D'No walked into KSU and did that with the 2000, 2001 and 2002 team then I could understand the request for flying "Fire Coach" banners.

But they didn't...

They were given the keys to a Pinto not a Porche. Porche keys went to Coker.

BigTimeCane

No one us or should be saying fire golden. But I'll be damned if I continue to support a defensive coordinator that gets beat by the same team running the same scheme 2 years in a row and in such an embarrassing way. I had between 6-6 (the realist in me) and 8-4 (optimist), but what I saw yesterday was the worst display of defensive coaching and at some points poor offensive coaching. No reason why our D isn't flexible and using a different scheme. I can't help but compare golden to other 2nd year coaches and see a significant difference in scheme and in how football is being played on a fundamental level. I don't mind losing but at least show progress or fight or something. And this isn't just one game. All of last year and first to games of this year was exactly the same on the defensive side of the ball. Giving up big yards in hopes that we don't give up a TD. That is the worst and weakest football philosophy I've ever heard of. It's soft and it reflects the play on the field. I don't expect domination or even good execution. We have a young team with serious holes on D. But that defense did not play physical like they are supposed to. They played timid due to the defensive philosophy being timid. Either have faith in your players and let them loose or leave.

BigTimeCane

One more thing. Do goldens coaches listen to him? Last week he said he wanted to establish more of the run. The run calls we're terrinle. Who has mike James sweep to the outside instead of playing out of the I and smashing teams. I will even give golden the "this is technically his first year with all the young players" excuse. I just want to see a team that tries different things on defense. And like everyone else I want golden to succeed. I don't want coaching turn over that's a killer. But he needs to get d'onofrio in check and change that philosophy or as Others have said banners will be flying.

BigTimeCane

Just for the record golden has my support for 4 years. It's the least any coach deserves. I just hope I can look back on this post and laugh at my drama queen rant lol.

CoCane

Now that the kool aid has left my system...

Chick- without elite speed & few pass rush moves. Not ready
Green- 1st year getting pt as a rs jr = never did sh*t, probably never will
Cain- 1st year at DE
Porter- still hurt
Smith- no better
Pierre- should be at temple
Grimble- 5* playing like a 1*
Robinson- never did sh*t
Perryman- only elite level talent on D. Just a soph
Buchanon- never did sh*t & is a sr
Gaines- should be playing DII & worst LB I've ever seen at da "U"
Paul- ???
Cornelius- should be DII
Armbrister- should be DII
McGee- should be a wr in a spread offense but 1 of the few improved players
Gunter- should be at Rice
Kacy Rodgers- should be at North Texas
A.J.- should have started out at safety & never played QB
Finnie- he's ok

The rest are just frosh playing for the 1st time. The defense is fukked vasolineless all year. We should've known but dam that kool aid was good. Lol

CoCane

The offense is ok but when u play against that defense we saw at BC & KSU all off season, the lack of competition stunts your growth... imo

Jiggafras

Im not buying the no talent blah blah. Bama was getting the no talent excuse until Saban showed up, look at UCLA now they have a coach who knows wtf he's doing. does UF not have talent, they have recruited top 5 every year. Their coach is just not good at developing the players. Player development, that is the issue for 8 years now! WTF is taking so long. They keep on getting drafted and performing, we keep on blaming them. Let me state this again, since No'D has been coaching, opposing QBs have completed 68% of their passes. That's a crazy number.....added to the fact we cant stop anyone from running. Not the tailback or the QB. No'D is not a good play caller quite simple.

BigTimeCane

I think there is no doubt there is a flaw in the coaching, definitely on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe Franklin and Dnofrio are stuck in the temple mindset and can't shake it whatever that could be or even means. I just see this defense and how we make qbs look like heisman candidates and make offenses in general seem high flying and unstoppable. Why? What is the deal. The year randy was fired we couldn't stop the run but our D wasn't as bad as last year and the year before. Sure it got better as the year went on but it's a weak defensive system that never stopped anyone except usf.

Like Tom cruise in a few good men I want answers and I WANT THE TRUTH lol.

canesteeler

I knew this season would be a struggle however what we have seen the past two weeks is garbage for the defensive scheme and the defense in general. I watch other teams play and they look better coached and if they make mistakes they make them going 100 mph. We are young but we are athletic however you can't see any athleticism consistently from the defense. I will be in the stands Saturday and BC will keep the game close because they will be able to match our speed. Hopefully we will wear them down by the third quarter.

solarcane

SJMP,

Let me explain the All American reference.

When I said before the season started lets wait and see how Duke doers against All American Seniors before we jump to conclusions that he can win games by himself as a freshman, I didn't specifically mean Arthur Brown, I meant any senior All American defenders.

Arthur Brown just happened to be the first AA candidate on a team Duke had to face.
Arthur Brown couldn't carry Jarvis James' ( Georgia AA linebacker) gym bag I understand what you meant.
.
I think Duke will become a great back , I also think he will understand the consequences of what getting hurt playing for college glory could be, compared to leaving to earn as much money as early in life as he can.

Although you and I differ in opinion on lots of Canes subjects I always read your posts and respect the points you make.
I believe we are both true Canes fans through and through.

Jiggafras

Here is a suggestion, play the most vanilla man defense you know, which is 2 man under, or cover one with a LB patrolling the middle of the field, and make the players make plays against specific players. Is it really that hard? BTW people keep on talking about we have no pass rush...big question, why do our DE never rush outside. I look at the games and they always rush inside and the OL have no problem blocking them.

Old Skool

Soup
Another good title. Your title writing has improved than our defense.

BigWIndyCane-Forecast1

Its hard to defend the coaches on the defensive side of the ball. I saw a lot of confused and hesitant defenders out there, and they were hesitant and they also missed their assignments 90% of the time. For the second straight week, the DLs did not play well, and the safeties were out of position and did not communicate with the other defenders. The Canes have not been very good on defense at all this year, and I see no progress. If they do not get any better on the defensive side of the ball by the NC State game, then there will have to be a shakeup on that side of the ball at the coaching level.

On offense, the offensive line did not play well at all. I cannot give the OL a pass becasue I saw NOTHING good happen up front. Fisch's game plan was not perfect, Duke dropped a few passes and Morris held on to the ball a little long, but the KSU DL penetrated in the backfield the ENTIRE game and they were disruptive. My prediction is that (barring injury) Seantrel will play a lot more the rest of the season.

I saw a very hesitant team that did not seem very prepared. I did not see the fight this week that I normally see in an Al Golden team.

solarcane

Jarvis Jones not James my bad

solarcane

Looking at this mornings NCAA stats release we are 84th in total offense and 109th in total defense.

You guys are nuts calling for Golden to resign! We need stability to weather this NCAA storm! By the way this was not the worst beat down in the last say five years! Oklahoma 2007 or virgina last game In the OB WE DID NOT SCORE!!! Com on man. I still believe in Al Golden, if he leaves we r set back another 5 years.

morning cg!

CGNC

Hi ya Solar. Nice up here about 68 and sunny. Going skating and then going riding :-D

Jiggafras

Golden is not the problem, No'D is. Golden is gonna sink with him because in the end he will have to take the blame for the defensive debacle that is taking place in Coral Gables. It is in excuseable in a coaches second year to be 1AA bad at Miami

solarcane

jack,
I don't think anyone wants Golden fired , I think 90% or so would like to see a new DC

I was still willing to give Randy another season when he got canned and I'm one of hard core fans here.

solarcane

have a great day cg,
yea its cool outside here, I'm off to the lake this afternoon

BigTimeCane

Jack I'm not calling for golden to resign. That is the last thing we need to happen. What I and I think many that are frustrated would like to see is actual defensive coordinator coaching. Adjusting to what is going on in the field. How do you play ksu two years in a row and practically run the same defense against them. The Dnofrio/golden philosophy is flawed. Giving up yardage but not allowing a team to score only works for so long. And so far it hasnt worked at all this season and honestly other than the usf game it didn't work last season either. I feel like golden is in charge of everything but the coaching of this team from the perspective of what he wants to run on offense and maybe even defense. His words and the teams actions aren't in sync. Not sure if he gives the coordinators free reign but if that's the case then he needs to change tactics. I would like to emphasize this is not a one game reaction. We made BC look all world. Last year Maryland looked competent against us (granted players were suspended). It's been the same for one season and two games.

solarcane

btc,
lots of good points from your observations

aight I'm out to enjoy the day catch you guys this pm

THE MAN

My theory is that in the past all the players from FL and S. FL were just far superior athletically compared to other players around the country and that athletic ability hid the lack of football IQ. Now players from around the country have caught up and are equal to those same players athletically, but are light years smarter on the field which makes them better. All I see is a bunch of dumb football players running around out there with no clue.

THE MAN

In addition to all that I'm sick of hearing players talk and then look like complete sh!t on the field. Or one week they are good then the next they suck. If a player is inconsistent that just means they suck period. Only consistency distinguishes good from bad. This team is 5-10 years away from be able to compete again, if ever actually. AND that is with a complete overhaul in philosphy from players recruited to schemes to everything. The grim reality is the old Miami is gone and never coming back...

mi@mic@ne

I think Golden is good at organizing and preparing the kids on the physical side of the game but im still not sure he getting the players motivated on game day to accept nothing but winning. Football is a simple game.. ive seen this with the dolfins in the past with Shula... making it so difficult that they create confusion. Thats one thing I liked about Jimmy.. he got across to the players they had to play to win or they would be riding the pine. We played our best on game day.

USAFCane

Golden looks in pain during that interview. He cares alot but the job might break him if things don't improve massively this and next season.

I didn't see any excuses, he just didn't throw coaches and players under the bus. I think he's thinking it though.

mi@mic@ne

Golden reminds me a lot of the Shula type.. really organized and focused on technique.

Jiggafras

Lame excuse. Coaches are teachers, go out and get a proven coach like Butch or Saban or even Urban Meyer and you wont be calling these players dumb. Oh Sam Shields is too dumb to learn Randy schemes but smart enough to learn the packers defensive schemes despite only playing CB one year at Miami. More excuses, coaches are teachers and the ones on the defensive side are not teaching crap and their play calling is worse

Like i said before the season started that we need a big qb who create the plays on his own cause we are way too young to do it methodically.

Anyone remembers Bill Young's zone scheme that couldnt stop christian Ponder and let GT run wild for almost 500 yards? No'D has reinvented it on steriods. ZONE SCHEMES does not work at Miami plain and simple. The year Randy got fired we led the ACC in total offense and was second in total defense. We just had no discipline to execute a gamplan for start to finish. Stop lying about how devoid the team is of talent. we have big fast and strong players being forced to think more than they should have to at this point in their careers. Plain and simple

mi@mic@ne

Stephen is got a good arm but after 4 seconds the success percentage drops a lot.

If you go back in the day when we brought the red shirts on the field to do mop up work it was very porous d. We always got scored on.

Jiggafras

OH yeah and Bill Young's D at OK ST is no better than when he was at Miami except they get turnovers. Lots of yardage being given up to every team they play.

^^^ there it is

orange 'n green in the vein

Golden lost this game when he focused so much on how close the 2nd highest passing yardage QB in school history got to winning in 2011 at home. That yardstick gimmick is just another in a long line of self promotion stunts he's pulled, the problem is it makes the 2012 team think they were oh so close to winning a game 365 days ago when they need to be worried about playing their asses off just to win the game 1 hour from now. MAC football is more this guy's game and he wasn't very good there either. The coaching staff is going to need a lot of evaluation about what they are doing and pretty soon Fisch is going to have a better job calling that he won't turn down so it could get very, very rough sledding real soon here on both sides of the LOS in that department. Golden would do himself a world of good to stop looking into his volumes of the master plan (which has no first hand references to a college championship program to draw from, mind you) and should take a page from the TCU's linebackers coach by going to championship programs and seeing what they do that he doesn't. Black shirts in practice is a gimmick of a championship program from '97, he should try and find something within the last five years preferably to copy.

Also if the d line is not very good ...they do not demand attention then the oline can get to the second level of the d and crush the lbs... thats why we were so successful in the past ..they had to keep us from penetrating so it freed up our lbs and corners.

mi@mic@ne

It could possibly be a difference in philosophy ...what the initial technique is taught to our d line...the old style was to penetrate to the gap...one gap responsibility rather than two gap.

Jiggafras

I don't think its on Golden. No'D is out of his depths. He has no idea how to play a chess match with top class co-ordinators. If you want to stop the run, you blitz the gaps. He never does anything like that, its all read and react. By the time the guys read it its too late to react because you have someone on you blocking you. We have managed to make every single QB we played since last season look like Dan Marino. I can go down our roster and look at every player who top class programs wanted. Telemaque was wanted by every team and he was all acc 2 seasons ago, Bush, Howard, Crawford could have played anywhere in the ACC or SEC. Grimble was highly recruited, so was Chickillo, Robinson, Porter, McCord, Hamilton and others. Where is this void in talent people are referring to? To see a guys' relative talent look at the schools who recruited him. Muschamp is stinking up the swamp....their team is not devoid of talent, neither was Ron Zooks teams that kept going 8-4. Get us some proven coaches. Butch would come back if we ask him to and maybe its time we made him finish what he started if Golden either doesnt make some serious changes or get it right.

I appreciate Schnelly, JJ, Erickson & Butch so much more. For years people thought as long as south florida players came to da "U" they'd dominate. WRONG! All the while we were blessed with a rare run of amazing coaches. Da "U" still gets top talent from da bottom but once the coaching fell off, so did the program.

mi@mic@ne

Defense wins championships... it hasn't changed.

mi@mic@ne

I still have faith that the football gods are on our side.. Golden can turn this thing around.. it just finding the rite chemistry and getting some solid maturity in the program.
