An amazing 30 underclassmen, including an astonishing 11 starters, were listed on the latest two-deep depth chart released by Miami head coach Al Golden following the Hurricanes' 42-36 spectacular come-from-behind OT road win at Georgia Tech.
Hassan's favorite Freshman Ereck Flowers has made four consecutive starts at right tackle, while RoachCane's Legend of the Fall selection redshirt Freshman LB Eddie Johnson has started three straight games. Cornbread's favorite Freshman S Deon Bush has started the last two games.
The latest depth chart is without Freshman WR Malcolm Lewis, who suffered a gruesome ankle injury in the game against the Yellow Jackets. The injury was so apparent and severe that it led to UM head coach Al Golden rushing onto the field to hold and comfort Lewis in his time of need.
Here is Golden's interview and comments on the injury after the game:
The move by Golden was a genuinely moving and touching gesture that has gained some national notoriety. But most importantly, we all hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Lewis who was already making an significant impact on the team as a true freshman.
Also off of the depth chart were the previously announced redshirt junior LS Sean McNally and redshirt senior LB Ramon Buchanan, who have each suffered a season-ending injury.
The Hurricanes face North Carolina State this Saturday at noon at Sun Life Stadium (ESPNU).
Woosh!

Dinich and her ACC power rankings:
4. Miami (3-1, 2-0; LW: No. 9) -- Not even coach Al Golden knows what to expect with such a young team, but one thing was clear in the road win over Georgia Tech -- his players believe in him and want to win for him. Don’t look now, but the baby Canes have a chance to win the division. How about a Miami-FSU title game?

That latest Raising Canes episode is spooky deceptive. The title is "Home," and the crowd doesn't exist. It should be called "Family," since it's a people-centered piece. In fact, perhaps it's best not to title the documentary until it's "in the can."

Ohio and Zilla,

When it happens, that song is a MUST. I see a warm summer day, a confused Al Golden, and clips of Top Gun in the background.
Makes me feel all sentimental.

"So we could be returning 10 starters on offense and 9 on defense next year right"
We get a load of players back, but starting? Hmmm... not sure. I have a feeling some of the 2013'ers will have something to say about that on defense.
Minus Linder going pro, I think the entire starting five (+ SMD's Seantrel and the rest) offensive linemen return. That's awesome news.
Morris will be back and should start (I like him).
Mike James will be gone (hate it), but Duke, Eduardo, and Dillard will be more than up to the task.
I have no idea about tight end and wide receiver. Jean-Louis should also be in the mix.
Spots are open everywhere, though. Especially on defense.
I don't see Finnie, Chickillo, Bush, or Johnson getting unseated. Other than that? Wide open.
We're 3-1. Wow. That feels great to say.

* After a thrilling come-from-behind OT road win, the Miami Hurricanes return home to host NC State at Sun Life Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. EDT and will be aired on ESPNU. Saturday will be the 14th all-time meeting between the programs, with UM owning a 7-5-1 series edge. However, the Wolfpack has won the last two meetings.
* Miami and NC State have not met on the gridiron since Nov. 29, 2008 - the longest stretch between two meetings for Miami's ACC opponents.
* Freshman RB Duke Johnson has 838 all-purpose yards through four games, the national leader in that category. He is on pace for 2,514 yards in 12 games. The single-season all-purpose mark at Miami is 2,102 by Willis McGahee in 2002.
* Junior QB Stephen Morris threw for a career-high 436 yards in Miami's 42-36 road win at Georgia Tech. Morris is the first UM quarterback to throw for 400+ yards since 2002 and it was the most passing yards by a UM QB since Gino Torretta's 485 yards against San Diego State in 1991.
Posted by: 86Cane | September 24, 2012 at 10:06 AM
* Through four games, 17 freshmen have seen action for the Miami Hurricanes, including 14 true freshmen.
* Five freshmen have started at least one game for the Miami Hurricanes - true freshman RT Ereck Flowers, true freshman RB Duke Johnson, true freshman WR Malcolm Lewis, true freshman S Deon Bush and redshirt freshman LB Eddie Johnson.

I have never been so excited about being wrong. I did mention if we could hold the Techsters around 200 yds on the ground we would have a chance and they didn't get much more than that and that Jedd had to open up the play book, which he did. This helps our cause greatly towards that march to 6 wins. That's the magic number I'm looking at and anything after that is just gravey. This is going to be a see-saw all season. The defense is what it is but the if Jedd dials up the offense, week in @ week -out, we can put points up, these will surely, if anything else, be entertaining, sort of like '98. N.C. State will probably throw it 40 times, so will have to find a pass rush and my early prediction is us beating them 31-27. State has 3 greenhorn linbackers, so just maybe the TE's & RB's can have a field day, catching some passses.

Im slowly coming back down to earth..we had a great game this past weekend and they played with heart. Lets not forget golden and company have a history of stopping the option offense. But on passing when they did they burned us more then I would have liked. Next week nc state has one of the best QBs in the ACC. I have high hopes miami will step up and win this game but just dont forget our secondary is still pretty weak and it scares the poo out of me. I think our offense will play good and we will score im just worried that it will be a shootout.
Im predicting

NC STATE - 31

I MAY to be arriving late, not sure if I am going down on Friday night to the Hampton or driving down Saturday AM. I'll post details later this week.
