Hurricanes football radio color analyst Don Bailey Jr. served as the program’s emcee. The luncheon began with a season highlight video, followed by a countdown of the season’s nine most memorable plays:
- Denzel Perryman’s 41-yard INT return at Boston College
- Phillip Dorsett’s 65-yard TD to open the game at Georgia Tech
- Brandon McGee’s stripped fumble and recovery vs. NC State
- Kendal Thompkins’ sensational catch vs. USF
- Jimmy Gaines’ acrobatic INT vs. USF
- Davon Johnson’s catch-and-run at Georgia Tech
- Duke Johnson’s 95-yard KR for a TD at Virginia
- Mike James’ game-winning TD run in overtime at Georgia Tech
- Stephen Morris’ game-winning TD pass vs. NC State
At the halfway mark of the banquet, the Hurricanes coaching staff handed out the 20 annual player awards. Freshman S Deon Bush was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year; redshirt junior DL Shayon Green, who was named the ACC’s Brian Piccolo Award co-winner, was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player. Denzel Perryman
Shane McDermott
Rayshawn Jenkins
Jon Feliciano
Herb Waters
Rashawn Scott
Allen Hurns
Clive Walford
Steven Morris (Jake Heaps BYU and Philip Sims Ala and VA were the highest rated QB's that year)
Well anyway here is a list, not all encompassing, of three star recruits (scouts, rivals, and yahoo). Of course I would rather have guys with five stars. But, this list ain't so bad.
Posted by: trianglecane | December 10, 2012 at 10:32 AM
86,
You're right, ain't no use to worry. We got this in the bag. 2 more months of agony and wondering how are we going to be able to stop the Virginia's of the world next year. I'm not sweating it, I'm antsy. When you look on the big board and those names start dropping like flies, it leaves you wondering, it's size and talent we need up front, where's it coming from. It's also sad when you have an offensive lineman, that is awarded you're hardest hitter. We don't need some stiffs to take a spot for the big dog we missed out on.

Once the NCAA hands down the punishment, as long as it's not to bad. All of the negative recruiting against us will be exposed as bullshyt & the players will come. Collins, Bryant, Thomas etc.
So Knighton has us as his leader?

Jack,
And your point being with Perryman, Morris & Johnson? What's that got to do with getting some dam beef up front that can stop the run or rush the passer, which incidently, will make your boys Perryman & Johnson look like A-A's, if this tiny detail can be taken care of by Sir Albert.

The one name I very rarely see come up in talk about a new D coordinator is Barrow. Does he have it in him or is he strictly a position coach?

so if golden is pushing D'No to go back to Philly. Would he bring in a new Coach or promote from within ? or wouldn't it be funny if he hires Al Groh ? Golden knows that if we see glimpses of last year atrocious D.. the mob is ciming for D'No and i will start saving money on that plane and banner that says." Miami's defense is the laughing stock of ncaaf. Fire No'D now Al"
Posted by: laquinton | December 10, 2012 at 03:04 PM
Laquinton,
I think Al might have his shoe in his azz pushing him out the door. Saves him from having to eventually fire him.

Kevin Patrick is likely to be available soon.
Bernard Clark was D Coordinator at Hampton. I think he's linebackers coach at Pitt. Are any of those guys better than Barrow?
And of course, there's always Cristobal.
Posted by: Old Skool | December 10, 2012 at 04:05 PM
i care who coaches the d. he has to be a great x and o guy and have a proven track record abd has to be a great recruiter in south Florida.
cristobal isnt coming doen. he is a head coach and he isnt a defensive guy. plussssssss remember jaun Castillo with the eagles. thats what happens when you promote the offensive line coach to be over the defense. its like putting kehoe over the D

Some shrinkage in the number of football teams and leagues nationwide may be likely in the future, not to mention, the waivers parents and conceivably adult players have to sign may soon get a lot longer.

Cristobal will NOT be coming to UM as an assistant. He could be an assistant at the NFL level or get another NCAA gig as HC.
If DNo is a gonner, it will be interesting to see who he goes with. I don't think Al can experiment with Barrow as DC, and I think Groh is old news. Gotta steal an up-and-comer from somewhere - NFL?
Posted by: DrewZ2 | December 10, 2012 at 06:26 PM
C'Mon people... seriously? D'No's not going ANYWHERE...
Who in Philadelphia in their right mind would be pulling for this move? Anyone looking back on his "past" history there will be loudly reminded of his "current" stats.
Also, there's way too many other "highly qualified" coaches in the pool out there right now.
Not happening. No such luck. No way, no how.
Nothing to see here... move along now... move along...

I'm not hearing about us getting the REALLY big, mean, DTs that we are SORELY lacking. The kids on our team NOW are "progressing" under U Tough, no doubt... but they're NOT the studs we really need to shore up our porous D.
I'll give D'No THAT... we're lacking "physically" up front...

Throw him off the team. Some people will never understand the great opportunity they have in life. Instead they hurt other people and a football program trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
This is sad. One more scholarship available for 2013.
