McGee, a native of Fort Lauderdale, will be the 44th Miami Hurricane to play in the East-West Shrine Game and first UM defensive back since Al Blades in 2001. As a senior in 2012, he started all 12 games at defensive back and finished tied for sixth on the team with 54 tackles. He snagged a team-high-tying two interceptions and also notched 4.0 tackles-for-loss.
Miami’s shut-down corner was a two-year starter at defensive back, concluding his career with 24 consecutive starts. He graduated Thursday from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in sports administration and a minor in entrepreneurship.

FSU losing 4 coaches in a few days...Hummm...
Something wrong at FSU.
I hope Brandon will increase his stocks in being selected in the 88th East-West Shrine Game.

Monty...I am not sure IF something is wrong at FSU? There certainly COULD be something waiting to drop (recruiting violations?) but it could just be success that results in promotions and changes also. Winning can do that, and that is what we need to start doing again, and SOON!
Posted by: 86Cane | December 13, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Laq...I see McGee going in the fifth round but some had him as low as the 7th and others as high as the 3rd round based on speed/size and combine numbers alone?

Brandon had his best season in 2012 and was a leader on the team. I wish him the very best.

In Fall Commencement ceremonies held Thursday at BankUnited Center, 10 University of Miami student-athletes from five sports earned their bachelor’s degrees.
Included in Thursday’s graduates were six football players (AJ Highsmith, Mike James, Davon Johnson, Ben Jones, Brandon McGee, Curtis Porter), one soccer player (Kate Howarth), one men’s basketball player (Reggie Johnson), one rower (Katie Stanzilis) and one volleyball player (Nrithya Sundararaman).
Dyron Dye walked in Thursday’s ceremony, but will graduate in May. Both Reggie Johnson and Stanzilis walked during the May 2012 Commencement exercises.
Another group of 50 student-athletes is slated to graduate during Spring Commencement exercises in May.
“Graduation Day is a celebration for not only our student-athletes and their families,” Associate AD for Academic Services David Wyman said, “But for our whole community that has watched our Hurricanes give their very best effort in school and in their sport.
“Today we honor them for all their commitment and contributions they made to our tremendous university and join them in celebrating their academic success,” Wyman said.

Damn, missed all the fun today with assignments to finish and a holiday party! So, Golden isn't interested in Wisky, D'Onofrio is a finalist for Temple's HC job (somewhere OGV is praying like there's no tomorrow!), we don't have a lot of faith in some of our draft-eligible guys, and F$U is going through what was arguably a really good staff for reaons unknown. Did I miss anything?
My thoughts on FSU- I think the coaches are getting promotions, essentially, but I also think they know last year's team was their best shot for a couple of years. Jimbo may be pushing some of the guys he thinks underachieved out as well. So, I see many reasons for all their defections.

Anyway, sometimes it's difficult to understand the reason(s) the underclassmen declare for the draft rather than returning for their final season.
Although he didn't get drafted, my hats off to him for making the best of his situation:
DL Forston draws attention
By Mike Reiss | ESPNBoston.com
In what seems like a strong indication of how highly the Patriots' coaching staff viewed the Texans' defensive line talent, and how limiting them was crucial on Monday night, three d-linemen were named practice players of the week.
Rookies Jake Bequette (3rd round, Arkansas), Justin Francis (free agent, Rutgers) and Marcus Forston (free agent, Miami) were three of the four award winners. They were joined by running back Shane Vereen, who was a winner for the second week in a row (he must have nicely simulated Arian Foster).
The practice players of the week are players that the coaching staff feels best prepared the team in the days leading up to a victory.
Let's focus on Forston, who is on the practice squad, as he could be a candidate to fill the team's open spot on the 53-man roster.
The Patriots were a little thin on the interior in Monday's win over the Texans, with only Vince Wilfork, Brandon Deaderick and Kyle Love dressing. If they are eyeing another layer of depth, Forston (6-3, 305) would be a natural candidate.
Earlier this year, Forston had been doubling up by playing offensive line on the scout team when the Patriots had a run of injuries, which was another reason he was recognized for his practice work.
Forston made the club out of training camp and has appeared in one regular-season game this season, logging eight snaps vs. the Ravens on Sept. 23. He was waived Sept. 26 and re-signed to the practice squad after clearing waivers.

The best news of the day: From SMD
"Golden, who was out recruiting Thursday, has repeatedly said he loves it at Miami and is staying.
Chris Freet, the UM associate athletic director for communications and marketing, called the tweets preposterous,’’ and said Golden was not pleased.
Freet said UM interim athletic director Blake James spoke to Golden about it.
Al isn’t going anywhere,’’ Freet said. He’s 100 percent committed here.’’
Golden was awarded a contract extension a year ago. His contract runs through Feb. 1, 2020.

THESE WERE THE EARLY DAYS OF CANESPACE:
CANESPACE: So your first year at Miami you were a Cornerback?
ROHAN MARLEY: Yeah, my first year we were playing cover 2. I'm the trail, the safety's got the deep man. They used me as a cornerback jumping the underneath route. If you saw me chasing the deep guy, he's not my responsibility [refrences a play in the FSU game]. It wasn't long before I was moved to LB because I loved to hit and they couldn't block me.
CANESPACE: So how did you end up with #2?
MARLEY: Charlie Pharms had it and told me I had be in on every tackle in the toilet bowl. First couple of plays were run plays, I came in from the CB position. I loved to hit. I hit Warren Sapp, I hit everyone in that game.
SPACE: Who made you a Linebacker?
MARLEY: My first day of practice Coach Soldinger moved me to LB, I thought I was a decent CB. Linebacker? So I go 7-on-7 and it's run, run, run all run. Oh, man I'm eating it up, they couldn't block me. I move up to 2nd string, they still couldn't block me! End of story. After practice, I'm coming back to the locker room and Warren Sapp says to me, "Rohan they were fucking with you, you should have always been a LB!"

Bond Talks about Coaches Visit last night.

2013 JUCO LB Devante Bond got a big visit from Miami Head Coach Al Golden and Defensive Line coach Jethro Franklin on Thursday night. Bond was honored that both coaches came all the way to California to speak with him.
It definitely shows that they are interested, that they really want me because that is pretty far. So them doing that shows me a lot, as far as how interested they are with me.
Al Golden is the man!

Posted by: laquinton | December 13, 2012 at 10:07 PM
I agree 100%. Over the last few years, I noticed that each year a small group of DBs run 4.4 or better, and any DB that runs in the 4.3s will almost always get drafted by the end third round. If McGee runs in the 4.3s like they say he can, he will definitely shoot up higher on the draft boards because he improved his tackling and became much stronger and agressive under U-tough.
McGee will play on Sundays.

270 millions of firearms among U.S. citizens
Some politicians will need to do more than just pray and show tears.
God bless all the victims, their families, friends and America.
From Michael Moore today:
The way to honor these dead children is to demand strict gun control, free mental health care, and an end to violence as public policy.
The NRA hates freedom. They don't want you to have the freedom to send your children to school & expect them to come home alive
Too soon to speak out about a gun-crazy nation? No, too late. At least THIRTY-ONE school shootings since Columbine.

Don't we have 3 TE's committed? Answer, why are we recruiting 2 more Sandlin & the 6'9 kid Wozniak or whatever his name is. Yes, he can probably be a lineman but we already have 3, we don't need to be wasting any more ships on that position. How about another big RB.
Posted by: herbieibis | December 14, 2012 at 08:04 PM
Larranaga is such a pimp. Somebody needs to get that lifetime contract ready for him at years end in the UM athletic department. You know, if they can pull themselves out of the subterranean jack shack set up behind their offices with the always repeating highlights of Golden's ties on the sideline blowing in the wind projected in high def 3D 1080p to be bothered that is.
I always knew deep down inside that D'No was a coward in addition to a totally clueless mutant who chicken dances in his defensive signals, now there's the proof of it reported. He should cuss out Barrow in the film room if he ever hits puberty one of these days, that would be worth the price of admission to watch him be totally a failure at Miami.

You can get more stringent gun laws, but you cannot get an outright overturning of the 2nd amendment barring another constitutional amendment. Or a Supreme Court with a different composition. Neither could happen for many months at the earliest.
This is such a tragic situation. I have not felt so sick since 9/11.
Posted by: Tonycane | December 14, 2012 at 08:33 PM
OGV...I want Miami's defensive talent level to become so elevated that whatever D'No deficiencies are (or are not), that they are covered and he and barrow become two of the top hc candidates in the country.
