So you thought this was going to be easy, didn't you? Come on, just admit it.
Way back in early August before the 2012 college football season started you sat there behind your computer in your orange and green man cave and thought to yourself that picking the best players that were going to have the best season for the Miami Hurricanes this year was going to be easy.
Well not so fast my friend! We officially had 108 fan entries into out little Legends of the Fall contest here at Canespace including several from some of the most well known and respected names in the UM media pool. Each and every one of them probably thought to themselves, or like blogger pbcfr13 claimed out loud, "My selections are solid, I've got this contest nailed!"
Well, guess what? Not a single entry nailed all four selections for the offensive, defensive and freshman players and the assistant coach who would make the biggest impact on the Miami Hurricanes' 2012 season and become a Legend of the Fall.
However, we did have some fans that came very close to the ultimate goal and narrowly missed getting all four correct. Those who had three selections correct and therefore have been declared winners of the 2012 Canespace Legends of the Fall contest are:
- ClwtrDan
- Hassan
- WindyCane
- CaneAlum84
- MontrealCane
All of the bloggers listed above had at least three selections exactly right and not surprisingly all of them chose offensive player QB Stephen Morris, Freshman RB Duke Johnson and coach Jedd Fisch. In addition most of these bloggers also had one of the honorable mention players or coaches as well.
Congratulations to all of these winners who will receive some Canespace gear or other branded products (coffee, mugs, etc.) in the coming weeks!
There were also several bloggers with two correct selections and an honorable mention selection as well. Those bloggers for the record were:
- CanesGirlNC
- RoachCane
- ColdCane
- HerbieIbis
- 706Cane
- Da U N Houston
We are sorry to inform you that according to Canespace LOF contest rules: "U get nothing!" But we highly recommend that you all try again next year. After all what do you have to lose?
First??????

Ohio...just like Butch Davis is being advertised as the front runner for the FIU job. If Davis was seriously going to take the FIU job why would he not go to Arkansas (rumor is that he was offered), Tennessee (where SEC cheating in recruiting is allowed) or even at USF (right there in Tampa) before going to FIU?
How about this: Butch Davis takes USF job and hires Mario as his OC?
Posted by: 86Cane | December 05, 2012 at 01:29 PM
I don't want to use hyperbole but firing Cristobal may be the dumbest coach firing in my lifetime.
But if you factor in stupid hires following stupid fires, then Marty Schott & Norv Turner take the prize in SD

This is the last I'm saying on it. PapaCane does a good job reading the internets and collecting info, but I agree with the following tweet:
“@TallyBoy73: @ByPapaCane @chicagocane He may go to Miami but why don't u admit that ur guessing and have no inside info at all. His mom LOVES FSU. Fact.”
Even though this was written by a nole, it's been established (at least by those that should know) that his mom is a big time nole. Now Tracy's mom used to be a gator, so anything could happen, but if he goes to FSU, it should come as no surprise. PapaCane is just guessing, he has zero basis to actually know which way this kid will go.

I agree. I was just using him as an example, that's all. You're right. We are all guessing. Nobody knows. Maybe Bryant told Golden on the down low that he's still going to miami or maybe he himself doesn't know. Teenagers are notoriously fickle. End of story. Out.

ALL MY PICKS WERE SLEEPER PICKS, I didn't pick the best players like I could have, I FOLLOWED THE RULES and got punished for it. Hey are you the NCAA??
#77, went from a Minnesota transfer to starting and one of golden's favorite players
Rogers, you are correct on
Bush, I'm 100% correct
McDonald, look at what Scott, dorsett, hurns, Lewis, waters, DJ, and lockhart brought to the table. Yeah they had some drops but you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink it. They also had big games. Who can say that the wr's weren't getting open?? And it you can't see all that just look at Davon Johnson, the kid was basically unheard of for four years. Also KT

Kirkland should have FSU as one of his potential destinations. Small list for us.
Grace & Bostwick for sure we get.
I'd rate Thomas & Kirkland at about even money. Senat 20%, Bain 50%, Williams less than 40% and Collins 40%, Cunningham 20%.
Odds to me and this is my personal opinion, aren't to good for most of those players. If somehow we get Thomas, I think we get Kirkland. Bain, we get only if some of the Juccos don't come through. Cunningham was mentioned alot early but haven't heard to much lately other than I heard Stanford was where he really wanted to go.

Soup, what e-mail list? The Herb's lost.
This recruiting is like watching an entire Nascar race. One minute one guys ahead and then he's in the middle of the pack and then he's back up front. We need a early signing period and this will eliminate a lot of jockying back and forth.

...Davis had a tenure of marginal success and seemingly endless scandal at North Carolina. In his four years at UNC, the team went 28-23, finishing 8-5 each of the last three seasons, though the wins from 2008 and 2009 were later vacated by the school.
Davis was fired in 2011 amid NCAA investigations into academic fraud and agent payouts inside the North Carolina program. North Carolina was sanctioned by the NCAA, but could face more punishment as additional wrongdoings have been uncovered...

Its interesting that Butch Davis is considering FIU. Butch is a good coach, and I am sure he will rebuild that program. Still, it cannot compete head-to-head with the Canes so I am not worried. Golden will win the recruiting battles.

Not good if true re: Finnie. Hoping it's someone else. Preferably not a student at UM

How about not throwing player names out there before anything is clearly established. It's reckless and irresponsible. There is no excuse for this!

I'm going under the assumption that the person posting as "rumor has it..." is a troll. If his "rumor" turns out to be true, I'll repost it.

2014 DT Khairi Clark (Chaminade-Madonna) is one of the top players in South Florida for his class. The 6’3”, 315-pound lineman spoke about his team’s season.

Last nite the message UM put out was that there was a man on campus with a gun. I am not throwing names out there, that is the word on the street who is involved.

Not a troll, just a concerned Canes fan and season ticket holder. This is the last thing we need.

That is throwing names out.
Don't be a numbskull, Hassan. Word on the street isn't always true. What the hell is wrong with you?
This is how screwed up your info is: it was established about ten minutes into the incident that NO gun was involved and that was tweeted out. So that part of your info is already proven wrong.

Hey idiot rumor - if there was a criminal incident involving players it's sad, but has absolutely nothing to do with the NCAA.
