When sports fans think about the letters "OT" it is highly likely that about 97% of them immediately think about overtime.
Overtime can come in almost any sport. Football and basketball have overtimes. Baseball has "extra innings" which basically amounts to an overtime extension of the game. Even soccer and hockey have an overtime period followed by penalty kicks or a shootout to try to determine a winner.
But when Miami Hurricanes fans think about "OT" they are really thinking about a rough, tough, hard scrabble area of Miami known as Overtown (http://overtowner.com/) and a football player at UM who bears the nickname "OT" in RB Eduardo Clements.
Earlier this year the UM athletic department did a special feature on OT and the scrimmage in Fort Myers. The Raising Canes video series created by Three Penny Films focused on Clements' difficult childhood and growing up in the tough neighborhood known as the Overtown area of Miami.
With the graduation of senior RB Mike James the Hurricanes will be looking for greater contributions from the other running backs on the roster behind starter Duke Johnson. The likely candidates so far are the experienced and dependable Clements, the speedy and elusive Dallas Crawford and the big and powerful Danny Dillard.
Miami is also recruiting the talented and highly regarded Alex Collins at the running back position but he may or may not wind up in Coral Gables depending on where he decides to take his abilities on National Signing Day.
Whatever happens in February the 'Canes are in great shape at running back in 2013. While everyone is expecting to see a lot more of Duke Johnson next season UM head coach Al Golden has stated many times that he plans to pace Duke and not wear him out too early or too often next year.
So as a result, we anticipate that Clements and the other backs will get plenty of carries in 2013. And that is something we are looking forward to going into next season.
First!
Prayers from a father of 3!

I love guns. Love them. Raised with them. My grandfather was a national champion marksman. We have a sickness in this country. People want to hurt babies? That goes far and beyond owning a firearm. That being said, we can use stronger gun control. These sickos need to be checked. Buying a gun now is easier than buying a car.

Kenny Kadji scored 17 points and Durand Scott had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Miami to a 77-46 win over previously unbeaten Charlotte on Friday night.
The Hurricanes never trailed as they built an 11-point halftime lead and outscored the 49ers 14-6 in the opening 5:27 of the second half. Rion Brown's 3-pointer with 14:33 remaining ended the spurt and gave Miami a 47-28 advantage.
Scott's three-point play with 12:48 remaining gave the Hurricanes (6-1) their first 20-point lead at 50-30.
The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak at the start of the season for the 49ers (9-1).
Charlotte got to within 52-39 on Victor Nickerson's 3-pointer with 9:46 left. But Miami, which played its first game in 13 days, ran off 14 unanswered points in the next 5:26.
Kadji's two free throws with 4:20 remaining capped the run and gave the Hurricanes a 66-39 lead.

Willie Will - what do you think of adding Herb Waters to our offensive watch list?
Posted by: CGNC | December 15, 2012 at 09:32 AM
I like the way the hoops team is ballin except for the hick up against Gulf Coast. I will enjoy this season because I believe this team will be in the "big dance" & will make some noise. The problem I have is with the future of the hoops team.
They have 6 seniors on the roster. Bishop Daniels just transferred. That leaves them with only 5 scholarship players for next year. Then, there's only 2 players committed for next year & I don't see any signs of more players committing. So next year there will only be 7 scholarship players. WTF?!
Posted by: CoCane | December 15, 2012 at 09:55 AM
Not only that. Why wasn't Daniels playing anyways??? He balled the games he played in. Not saying he should've transferred but he would've been the man with Larkin next year. I just don't see why Larranaga isn't using his depth. (shruggs)

South Florida completely dominates in state school championships and six is nowhere to be found. lol
All we heard was how the coaching sucked down here, the rest of Florida is better coached, maybe even has better athletes, bla bla bla. Especially like Manatee, and other central Florida schools. Totally dominated!!!
Where you at, six? Come take your medicine. lol

Somebody's been called out, don't hold your breath on him coming around to face the shat talking music though. I LMAO when Murray didn't spike the ball in the SEC title game thinking about his "Team Tampa," line and how that's just about the perfect encapsulation of his comments here on display in the national title semi-final.
Bridgewater's in a BCS bowl BTW, why's Murray back in state a few hours the wrong way from home and in Mickey land for his? Because who's the better player?

UM recruiting update; Ireland's status; Wade's message to Barkley; Fins, Marlins
SUNDAY BUZZ COLUMN
With 7 1/2 weeks left before National Signing Day, UM is in decent shape – with 11 oral commitments, including four ranked among ESPN’s top 150 – but still has several holes to fill. A half dozen highly-rated Dade/Broward recruits are undecided, and UM wants to come away with at least a couple of them.
Unlike last year, when UM signed 33 players, this Canes class will be limited to 15 to 18. Recruiting this year “feels different – more focused, more personalized, more selective,” coach Al Golden said.
“We don’t need that many and we’re trying to find the right ones and trying to be patient. We’re going through it methodically. A lot of these guys will be at All-Star games and we should be patient –give them an opportunity to say yes to us for sure.”
An update on where things stand with UM's 2013 class:

Lots of talk in the article about DTs, but none of it sounds very "encouraging" to me... too many sound like we're 2nd & 3rd choices for these guys. Still, we're two months away yet, and STILL haven't heard any NCAA sanction statements... (those a$$holes... )
Meanwhile, UM is pursuing several top-40 defensive tackles, including Fort Lauderdale University School’s Maquedius Bain (his coach, Roger Harriott, said UM, LSU and Oklahoma are his top choices); Delray Beach Atlantic’s Keith Bryant (a former UM oral commitment who said he favors FSU but hasn’t ruled out UM); Port Saint Lucie West Centennial's Jaynard Bostwick; and Immokalee’s Deadrin Senat (leaning toward FSU, but UM is in the mix).
UM also has been recruiting junior college tackles such as Toby Johnson (41 tackles, three sacks, blocked punt at Hutchinson Ks.), Ben Bradley and Lavon Hooks (who canceled a visit here).
Bostwick’s coach, Ron Parker, said Bostwick visited with Canes coach on Thursday night and that UM, UF and Alabama are front-runners for him. “He’s the best d-tackle in the country and will play right away,” Parker said, though rivals.com rates him 27th among tackles.
Dee Liner – the nation’s No. 2 ranked defensive end with the unusual but highly appropriate name – said he will visit UM in January, though he remains an Auburn oral commitment. UM is in the mix for New Jersey's Al-Quadin Muhammed, rated the nation's fourth-best defensive end. He visited UM last weekend.

The dude,
I think espn has us ranked #22 I think????
Posted by: Willie Will in Nashville | December 16, 2012 at 03:18 PM
The Dude, I noticed that a few days ago. It's primarily the low number of commitments. Two other schools ranked in Rivals's Top 70 have the same number (or just above) of recruits:
#57 - Stanford (10 Commitments)
#45 - Oregon (11 Commitments)
Nobody else ranked in the top 70 has less than 10 commitments. And for teams ranked in the Rivals Top 25, the lowest number of commitments for any school is 16.
Once the number goes up, Miami will go up as well.

I met UM coaches Terry Richardson and Mike Barrow at the game yesterday. They recruited me and offered me a 'ship but I told them I am taking all of my visits and am not making up my mind until National Signing Day. It's about 50/50 that I sign with Miami. LOL

DT is the toughest position to evaluate every year. I'd love to have some of these big-name kids, but there's never any guarantee that those guys grow into college All-Conference guys. Having said that, we haven't done well at that position in a very long time, so whatever we're doing to evaluate guys could be done better.
