I hear that some player named "Ed Reed" is still pretty good too? But I never heard of him?

Ahhhh! Why'd U have to tell me that now?!? Lol, now I wanna go to my office! Lol

86Cane

Ohio...don't be silly, nothing will change and U will be happy. Wait for it, wait for it...LOL

Terrance Sullivan

Great article 86. I hope Ray, Ed, McKINNIE, wins the bre Super Bowl. Go Ravens.

LB

Can't wait to get those commits piling in.

How many do you think we'll get before NSD?

WWIM

Soup,

Check your email please sir

TJL

RG 3 should have been taken out a long time ago-they risked further injury with him playing on one leg-Cousins is a good QB-

Ohio_Cane

86, is it the same as twitter DM, or different one?

WWIM

Ohio,

Take a look at this and tell me what you think??

CoCane

Mmm... Smh. Brissett would be a rs soph preparing to be the starter after Morris. He should've talked to Cam Newton. He never had a chance G-ville :-( I hope he balls out somewhere...

Ray Lewis the BEST linebacker ever!

He goes to the top private school in Nashville so I don't think he would have any grade issues, but I'll find out in a few minutes

WBB Canes win

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The Miami Hurricanes improved to 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference for just the second time in program history, toppling the Virginia Cavaliers 58-52 Sunday afternoon at the BankUnited Center.

GO CANES!!!

Brissett looked like straight garbage last season, and NO!, it was NOT because He was a freshman.

j.w.

Great stuff, 86! Said this on twitter earlier: Ray ray is the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be!

Common Sense

Nearly all of the gayturds offensive players were stud recruits but other than their o-line they're offense is garbage. Maybe Brissett wouldn't look so garbage if he was being groomed by Fisch. Also, guess who's coaching those talented, underachieving WR's at Florida... ('o') Aubrey Hill! Say it ain't so. The same WR coach that had our WR's playing like shyt. Yeah, that guy. The one that forced Hankerson to run to Mark Duper to save his career. Ijs Brissett had a better chance to succeed if he stayed home. Jmo

Shanecane88

Man oh man am I gonna miss seeing this guy play he is hands down my favorite cane or strait up player of all time nfl or college. Love him. Seeing rays last home dance today brought tears to my eyes. The heart, love and passion he brings ecery time he steps on that field. Love you ray gonna miss ya on sundays. ......tho we will be seeing him alot more on saturdays now on the sideline supporting lil ray and his own canes. And seriously wouldnt rule out him eventually being the canes dc...anybody??

RAY LEWIS IS THE BEST DANCING LINEBACKER EVER TO PLAY THE GAME!!!

UMike

According to CaneSport, Grace says he is 90% Cane...imo the only reason he isn't saying 100% is because he wants to commit on signing day. Lewis and Howard are among his best friends, you might as well add him to our list because he is a lock

86Cane

There IT is right there.

LB

"According to CaneSport, Grace says he is 90% Cane...imo the only reason he isn't saying 100% is because he wants to commit on signing day. Lewis and Howard are among his best friends, you might as well add him to our list because he is a lock"

I think so, too. Also UM is in need of another linebacker due to attrition (Buchanan, Paul, Witt). We need Grace and Thomas to come in and "ball out."

I think Kirby will be pretty descent next season barring injury. I think Terry will be a monster once he's coached up. Perryman is talented and solid, but that's it. I can't think of anyone else on the roster who could help.

D-Line: Recently some criticism of Shayon Green has surfaced, and I disagree. The entire defensive line was ineffective, but this guy came back from an injury plagued career and did nothing but lead the team in tackles. He may not have been up to standard, but he's the last guy who deserves the axe on the line.

Defensive tackle is a supreme need, and next to tight end, is the position that can really complete this team. Is there anybody who can step up and generate some consistent push? Just curious.

How about the 2013 class? It looks very sharp, and addressed some MAJOR needs and has some really nice gems at QB, TE, and the secondary. Add in the forthcoming recruits, and we've got something special.

UMike

LB..I agree with all you said. I hope Eddie Johnson will be back, he is easily the second best LB we got and a difference maker. I agree with Kirby..can't think of anyone else. Cornelius and Armbrister may provide some depht, but not really stand outs. Perhaps Gaines can help...but losing Paul hurts. The door is wide open for any freshman LB at this point. As for DT, I think Pierre and Moore will be improved this year and Porter could be back.

UMike

Canesport is reporting 4 EE's..I am not sure if that includes Sandland or not.

86Cane

UMike...I hope that Johnson and Terry are BOTH back at LB for the Canes in 2013. Time will tell and we will hope for the best but nothing is guaranteed.

dg

What happened with Paul? Did he just call "No D's" scheme stupid :-)

LB

It wouldn't surprise me if Ngakoue, Powell, or even Foster to get in on the 2013 class. Foster seems like a member of the "free trips to South Beach" crew, but at this point... it wouldn't shock me if he spurned the SEC and chose the UM hat.

I remember Quentin James whispered a while back. Can't think of anyone else.

Heck, anyone of them could start Week 1 and is virtually guaranteed more playing time than any of our competitors. A top 40 education doesn't hurt, either.

I hope Eddie Johnson returns. He seemed like someone who could make that Rohan Marley/Jon Beason-ish impact on UM and jump to the NFL. Dude was a statistical freak when he was in the game, and tough to scheme against.

Via Caneinsider: Seems like Standish Dobard is doing some major recruiting for us and using words like "dynasty."

Via Caneinsight: Reading between the lines, Whitfield's not going to UM.

Not sure if this was posted before, but here's some insight on AQM (looks like his nickname is "Quan," but AQM sounds cooler... sort of like a machine): http://www.stateoftheu.com/2013/1/5/3839484/commitment-review-alquadin-muhammad

Recruiting update: Expect one more HUGE shocker pick in addition to AQM. I believe it will be on NSD, not before, but U'll all be like "HOLY $#!7!!!! HOW DID GOLDEN DO THAT!??!??"

No, seriously. U are gonna say that.

Have to keep this one to myself. It's one of 2 guys right now. 1 will pick Canes, one won't.

86Cane

Sonny Dykes talking to Football Scoop:

Execution is much more important than scheme. Dykes relayed an anecdote from when he served as a GA under Hal Mumme at Kentucky. The Wildcats had spent all August practicing two scripts, one 11 plays long and the other eight-plays long, with some situational plays (third-down, goal line, etc.) thrown in. For Kentucky's season opener against Louisville, Mumme brought just the eight play script, two third down plays and some goal line plays, bringing the total to 14. Running nothing but those 14 plays, Kentucky scored touchdowns on its first seven possessions.

86Cane

LSU DL coach talking to Football Scoop:

Haley went through a number of drills LSU employs (heel line pursuit, six-point explosion) regularly in practice and provided answers throughout a lively question-and-answer session. One thing Haley, like all other coaches, stresses continuously is effort.

"I'm not going to spend an hour and a half every practice yelling at people to run after the ball," said Haley. "If you don't pursue the ball, you're not going to play. If you want to watch, sit in the stands."

Haley said that LSU stresses that each masters three pass rush moves instead of leaning eight or nine. "We don't ask a 300-pound player to learn a spin move. That's why they call us coaches."

I agree.
Looking at what this kid went through to get back on the field, and to perform at the level that He did, anybody that criticizes Him is an A-HOLE!

Montreal-Cane

Dear Mr. Emmert,

If the NCAA sends it's letter of allegations to Miami less than 2 weeks prior to the National Signing Day it will be very nasty to the recruits and it would be a very inappropriate timing. The NCAA is there first and foremost for the student athletes and not to tarnish their dreams. I hope you will show class and judgement about the timing of sending your letter of allegations concerning the revelations of one of the best liars in this world who stole 1 billion from experienced business people. Mr. Shapiro is behind bars for 25 years or more. Please punish the guilty people not the innoncents.

Thank You.

Just a huge fan of NCAA athletics

LB

"I think I got it!"

I see what you did there with the PSU connection. Tangible. Along with the Duke guy, two reasonable candidates.

Something to make the stargazers jump back on the bandwagon, I presume. Golden's like the Honey Badger of the recruiting world, without the bong.

Ohio, you're 2 for 2... but everyone is going to bomb you for information for giving such an excellent tease. Just get ready.

IraqiCane

Great article Soup!

GO CANES!!!

Montreal-Cane

POll who do want to win tonight? And why?

Notre Dame

Alabama

Neither one is not an option...I know it's like picking 2 deadly poisons.

I don't want Alabama to win another one and the poor Fu..... Irish last NC was in 1988 so i will go for Notre Shame and i hope for the last time in my lifetime...

UMike

AQM has been texting other recuits and telling them commit to Miami....and so far the EE are Alex Figueroa, Hunter Knighton, Sonny Odogwu and Beau Sandland..

Ohio..are you speaking of the latest email?

UMike

Also looks like Bostwick will be visiting on the HUGE weekend of the 18th

UMike

Monteal,..we do have the advantage of being a private university and we do not HAVE to release the letter of allegations to the media etc...at least im pretty sure thats the case. If we do get that letter before signing day we can hold it close to the vest..also..all these kids commited or commiting already know punishment is coming.

UMike

Miami has the most alumni in the second round of the playoffs with 15..sweet

UMike

Papacane is reporting "about 6" spots open...imo we get Grace, Williams, Thomas, Bostwick & Kirkland with the last spot being field by Bryant, Collins or Green...imo of course.

Montreal-Cane

UMike good point i hope it's the case.

UMike

Green has already taken 3 visits..the word is he is a Michigan lean (who he visited in oct)..but if we can get one of his last visits, Golden could work his closing magic! lol

Sean Spence is a Beast!!!

Tim Williams
Matthew Thomas
Denver Kirkland
Jermaine Grace
Alex Collins
Stacey Coley

Them for the 6 spots left, i'm hoping!

UMike

SSIB..I would say you have at least 4 right..perhaps all 6 lol..You could probably interchange Collins Or Coley with Bryant and Bostwick

Brevardcane

I like that list but we need at least one DT

86Cane

Papacane is reporting "about 6" spots open...imo we get Grace, Williams, Thomas, Bostwick & Kirkland with the last spot being field by Bryant, Collins or Green...imo of course.

Posted by: UMike | January 07, 2013 at 11:44 AM

Not to debate the issue as Papa is usually pretty accurate but I am told there are LESS than 6 spots left and maybe as few as 2-3.

SSIB's list above looks pretty good to me but what do I know? LOL

86Cane

Well done UMike, well done.

Brevardcane

Is including silents? Or 2-3 in addition to current list of commits

86Cane

UMike...I don't think that Ohio is talking about the email? He's talking about a BIG time shocker like a Green or a Foster or something like that maybe?

UMike

86..I know what you mean..and I think Joe Garcia (think I got it right) had abou the same number as Papacane..but who REALLY knows lol..I think a spot or two could be made for the likes of Collins or Thomas etc..imo..I do think Golden is going a little over the number he was giving earlier..I guess we could look at the roster and do the math, but who wants to do that lol

86Cane

Brevard...including silents. I forgot about the Gionni Paul spot and maybe 1-2 more that MIGHT be leaving, so that might make it 4-6 spots open. If that is indeed the case then Papa would be on target.

UMike

86..I have no idea lol..but if I had to guess at a shocker I would think Green..I think Foster is nothing more than a free trip to South Beach. However it shakes out, I do not see us brining in any less than 4-star playes for the rest of this class..and I hope that shuts up so many people who talked about us losing all these big time players

86Cane

I like the Green guess and that would be tremendous but we NEED a LB and a DT, so I would be more excited about of one of those two positions more than a RB.

Especially IF we get Collins then we are done at RB. But Collins is still shaky from what I hear, but then again, wudda I know? LOL

TE Standish Dobard
RB Alex Collins

DB Artie Burns
QB Kevin Olsen
OL Denver Kirkland
WR Levonte Whitfield
DL Dee Liner

UMike

Ohio..you can had Bostwick to that list as well

LB

I'd love to see Ray Lewis on campus that weekend. Include Deon Bush, Duke Johnson, and Standish recruiting for us...

...you may get them all.

CaneRock

Ohio, did somebody say something to somebody at one of the HS All-Star games, is that what your prediction is based off of?

Jack

LB -

Eddie Johnson had good freshman season, when he
Played.

herbieibis

Whether we have 6 ships or not, three of those needs to go to an elite RB, DT & LB. Here we are down to cases again and we still haven't solved our major problem and that's a push up the middle and run stuffer.

86Cane

Ohio...I did a little research on your BIG DEAL on NSD prediction. To be honest there are only a handfull of players who could make us say "How did Golden land that one?"

Assuming that you were not talking about LB Thomas and WR Coley who both have been talked about and rumored to UM, then the list is very small:

DL Nkemdiche
CB Hargreaves
DL Liner
LB Foster
CB Alexander

Hargreaves is the ONLY possible flip from UF or FSU and fits the Tracy Howard analogy also so that could be who U meant but I know you are not saying so we will leave it at that. Can't believe U will not tell ME!LOL

University of Miami freshman and ACC Rookie of the Year Duke Johnson was named to the 2012 Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced Monday.

Johnson is Miami’s fifth FWAA Freshman All-America selection and is one of only three ACC players named to the team, joining Florida State DB Ronald Darby and Maryland all-purpose player Stefon Diggs. Prior to Johnson’s selection, offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson was Miami’s last Freshman All-America performer in 2010.

He was also a first-team Freshman All-America as a kick returner by Phil Steele and a second-team selection as a running back by CollegeFootballNews.com and Phil Steele. In December, Johnson became Miami’s first All-America performer since 2005, earning second-team All-America honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, third-team honors from CBSSports.com and honorable mention from Sports Illustrated.

The Miami product enjoyed one of the greatest freshman seasons in Miami history in 2012, amassing 2,060 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns, while breaking Clinton Portis’ 13-year-old school freshman rushing record with 947 yards. Johnson ranks third nationally with a 33.0 yards per kick return average, leading the ACC by 4.0 yards per return. His 892 kick return yards were a single-season record and he also tied the school single-season mark with two kick return for touchdowns.

You can add Keith Bryant to that list per Ariz, too.

CaneRock

Al Golden will be on ESPNU shortly.

LB

Diehard Broncos fan here. Now there's another reason to root for Peyton and crew to whip the Ravens.

Maybe Ed Reed could come along with RLII & III?

Ohio, are you seriously going to Denver?

WWIM

Ohio,

Did you look at that clip from yesterday??

herbieibis

Ohio,
In a rescent video, Olsen said he couldn't manage to get things straightened out to come in early.
Bostwick scares me with the grade issues, so it's good that Bryant is also coming. We can't go "O" for that position.
Michael Parker is still looming out there. I like our options on the last 5 or 6 slots.
To me Grace & Bostwick are no doubters, it's the other 3 to 4 slots, that's a who knows.
