James started all 12 games at running back for the Hurricanes in 2012 and was the team’s second-leading rusher with 642 yards and six touchdowns.
The Haines City, Florida product concluded his career with 1,386 rushing yards and 17 scores, while catching 67 passes for 585 yards and five touchdowns. Always a good guy and fan favorite, James was one of 11 FBS players named to the 2012 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team in September.
Smith, a native of New Britain, Conn., started 14 games along the defensive line in two seasons for the Hurricanes, racking up 32 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. As a senior in 2012, Smith recorded 11 tackles in nine games, making seven starts.
A 2012 All-ACC honorable mention selection at safety, Telemaque made 20 tackles in 10 games. The Long Beach, Calif., product finished his career with 187 tackles and four interceptions.
For one week preceding the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, participants will receive an in-depth introduction to the union – the primary resource for information on the business of football and how to succeed in the NFL and in post-football careers.
Pro football players and coaching legends will work for the game’s future stars, giving them first-hand insight on what it takes to win on and off the field. Herm Edwards and Dick Vermeil will serve as the head coaches of the American and National teams. Player Ambassadors for the game include former NFL players Terrell Davis, Hank Baskett, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Lorenzo Neal and Andre Reed.

Good luck to James, Smith and Telemaque in the collegiate bowl.

CANESPACE RULES APPLY:
1. U gotta show up.
2. U gotta stay 'til the end.
3. Good things will happen.
So, there I am at the Under Armour HS All-Star game practice at Disney and I am standing along the fence looking for UM recruits Kevin Olsen and Artie Burns. I spot them on the adjacent field and walk over to take some photos. I position myself along the rail next to the field and who do I wind up next to?
KEVIN OLSEN'S MOM!
So we strike up the conversation and we have a great chat about Kevin, Greg, their dad and the whole family.
But more on that story tomorrow....

Rivals saying Bain to LSU
Posted by: Old Skool | January 02, 2013 at 07:23 PM
I have been told that Bain and Kirkland MAY have academic issues that could possibly prevent them from going to UM. I was told at one time that BOTH were going to UM but now I guess only time will tell. Both are good players and we wish them the best wherever they wind up. Maybe one of the HS coaches that reads this blog can clarify?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 02, 2013 at 07:44 PM
Roach...check this convo out I had with the guy from The Bleacher Report today:
All Star UM coahing staff:
Head Coach: Jimmy Johnson
Defensive Coodinator: Ray Lewis
LB Coach: Mike Barrow
DB Coach: Ed Reed
DL coach: Warren Sapp
Offensive Coordinator: Rob Chudzinski
WR Coach: Michael Irvin
RB Coach: Edgerrin James
OL coach: Art Kehoe
QB Coach: Bernie Kosar or Gino Toretta
Special Teams coach: Don Soldinger
Posted by: 86Cane | January 02, 2013 at 07:50 PM
No, he's not. Most great players are horrible head coaches, let alone assistant coaches. Ray Ray is the absolute best of all time, but asking him to recruit kids, evaluate hours of film, build relationships with players, high schools, and answer to Golden, all for a fraction of what his salary is right now, is just not going to work. Give him a few years to figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life before making him a coach.

I have to AGREE wit my man j.w. 100% on this. Michael Jordan was the best to ever play basketball but I wouldn't want him coaching my team or running it.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | January 03, 2013 at 12:52 AM
A couple of years ago, I read a lot about Bridgewater being a receiver. Some also compared him to Jacory. When I actually saw him play live and up close against teams like Central, I actually began to wonder where those rumors came from. I even recall specifically hearing some guys from the recruiting websites talking to Joe Rose on the sideline and they seemed to agree that Bridgewater was much more talented than any other quarterback in South Florida by far.
Based on what I observed, I concluded that Bridgewater was good enough to play a number of positions, including receiver, and excell. However, Bridgewater was the most gifted and talented of any quarterback coming out of South Florida in recent years, and that includes Geno Smith and Raheem Cato, both of whom are elite quarterbacks in college.
I saw a good arm, good speed, elusiveness, good feel for the game and a knack for making plays. You could see that he was the best player on the field, and that included Amari Cooper, Corvin Lamb, Devonte Freeman from Central and several other players I saw that year.
I give Bridgewater and Louisville a lot of credit, because Bridgewater has developed a lot at Louisville. His ablity to read defenses and he has bulked up some. Bridgewater's raw skills as a quarterback are being developed, and he will only get a lot better. In my view, Bridgewater actually has first round NFL skills as long as he oontinues to develop.

Gators looked horrible and exposed tonight. The Crocs have a lot of weaknesses to fix (especially at QB and WR) and Crocs will loose their best RB, LB and maybe a DL and their Safety.
The Canes should return most of their best players at every position. That Canes/Crocs game in early September looks a lot more winnable for the Canes after watching that pathetic Crocs performance tonight.
Barring NCAA sanctions, the Canes should have a very good 2013 season under Golden.

FROM THE ORLANDO SENTINAL:
And like any youngster whose father has decided to retire, Ray III is excited that his dad will have extra time to spend once his career is finished.
"For me it means he'll be around more to see my college games and be involved in my life even more and stuff like that," said the son who many still call Lil Ray.
Ray Lewis III is at the turning stone of his football career. Friday's all-American game marks the pivot of a transitional phase from high school to college football. The younger Lewis has decided to follow in his father's footsteps, at least in career path, and is committed to sign with the University of Miami on National Signing Day (Feb. 6).
He's had impressive success at the high school level, racking up more than 9,000 yards as a running back during his career at LMP, scoring nearly 100 touchdowns. He will be listed as an athlete entering his freshman year at Miami, where he will await summer workouts to see where he fits in as far as his position of the future.
"I'll play wherever," said Lewis III, who has been working out as a slot receiver and running back at the Semper Fi practices. "I'll play wherever I fit in or wherever I can help the team."

R u guys serious? Louisville? Teddy poo-water? GTFOOH. Louisville players look like high school players; scrawny looking. Do they have a S&C coach? They are definitely FL big 3 left overs. & don't tell me they r fast. It's like saying a black girl has ass: all FL players have speed & all black girls have ass. College football has changed. Like the NFL, u now have to be big, physical & quick. FL looked like they were playing with 4th graders, size-wise. FL lost because their coaches were incompetent. They think they r better than they r. And they r used to playing teams in the SEC that have no offense. Louisville will get murdered in the ACC. They r in for a rude awakening. And what's with teddy? Is he 12? What's with his cross eyes? I'm more than happy with our Stephen Morris. No regrets for not signing Teddy. Stephens better. An what's with their homeless looking coach?

86..how could a high school coach (or corrdinator) NOT know things such has grades, number of players at a position, test scores, limited spots etc play a huge part in who UM takes? lol..I guess since Northwestern is one of only two schools Shannon recruited and had a good relaitonship with, he likes him lol
Posted by: UMike | January 03, 2013 at 01:01 PM
UMike..I have discovered that MOST poeple simply hear what they want to hear, see what they want to see, and believe what they want to believe. Truth and facts be damned! People look for information that fits their pre-exisiting personal beliefs and world view so as to avoid cognitive dissonance, which for some is very difficult and painful to deal with.
