I am honored and humbled to write to you as the University of Miami’s 13th Director of Athletics. President Shalala and the Board of Trustees have entrusted me with this responsibility and I will return that belief through passion, hard work and an unyielding commitment to excellence.
We are The U. We are driven to succeed — it is in our nature.
The future of our athletics program is extremely bright and our more than 400 student-athletes represent the best in collegiate athletics on the field and in the classroom. Their experiences at Miami are enhanced by the passionate support from the entire Hurricane Family, and I thank you for your continued support of UM Athletics.
In the coming months, I will work with our senior staff and coaches to create a road map for our sustained athletic success, and we will share those plans with the community.
As always, our dedicated staff and I are available to assist you, and I look forward to the many victories and celebrations that we will share together in the days ahead. We are Building Champions at “The U” and we are happy to have you with us. Go Canes!

CHATTER
### As if the NCAA hasn’t done enough already to aggravate UM, add this to the list: Last week, UM and the NCAA engaged in serious settlement talks, and several UM people expected a deal because president Mark Emmert seemed initially supportive. UM wanted a settlement and likely would have accepted modest scholarship reductions.
But a source said the NCAA then informed UM there would be no deal and suggested to UM the enforcement staff and two key boards were against it because of concerns about “not deviating from the rules.”

She also said this: “Many of the charges brought forth are based on the word of a man who made a fortune by lying (At first, I thought she was talking about Emmert here, not Shapiro). The NCAA enforcement staff acknowledged to the University that if Nevin Shapiro, a convicted con man, said something more than once, it considered the allegation 'corroborated.'’’

In Other news Bigfoot has been proven by a recently released DNA study http://www.denovojournal.com/
It is a novel hominid, interesting DNA stuff in there, they sequenced over 2.7 base pairs and did Mitochondrial (female ancestor) on over 100 samples (mostly hair) and 3 entire nuclear Genomes (Male ancestory). The Q scores were well over 80 so that cancels out any possibility of contamination in the samples, two independent labs confirmed the results, university of Texas and some other crappy school, No word yet on if Mack Brown is recruiting the Big Guy.

SI is the worst sports writing organization in the world.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20130219/ncaa-enforcement-process-miami-investigation/?sct=uk_wr_a2
"That's what made Monday's reveal so interesting. As damning as the report and accompanying documents were, they actually made me trust the NCAA more. As the organization works to find a better enforcement model, its leaders should consider this: The only way to earn trust is to show you can be trustworthy. That requires proof, and the NCAA can provide that proof by being more transparent from this point forward."
Wow so by showing that you f'ed up that makes you trust them more? Trust the NCAA would have never come forward with this info had no one else knew, Miami held this ace in the hole the entire time. The kind of backwards logic the writer for SI shows is exactly why I can not stand that rag.

Terrence, it's a cool place. A few other places I liked on campus:
1) The spot by the music building. It was elevated a bit over the lake, and on certain days you could see some huge fish. I swear some were barracudas.
2) UM library. Love to read, and spent a bit of time there between classes.
3) Cosford Theater - Went to a cool 3D marathon there with some friends from my dorm. Also saw some premiers there.
4) Hecht - My freshmen year, first week there, some guys on our floor had a party that was so wild that football players showed up. This was back when the players had their own dorm.
5) The Rat
6) The Eye - home of the driest, saltiest, burgers ever.
7) Film Building - not sure if its still there, but spent a lot of time there editing. Had to have been the oldest building on campus.

Good post from Canesinsight..
Anyways, just wanted to pass on some info for you guys whenever we get it. First, regarding the latest additions to the team, Golden got direct orders from Shalala to proceed with trying to fill out the class as if it were a normal class with no hard cap. He was given the order to proceed and to hell with the NOA, as per him she is going to fight to walk away with nothing else from this but time served. Personally with the advice and the manner in which they have handled this situation, I have to believe she feels good about her standing, to give Golden the green light.
Secondly, talking about the team, my "source" was not able to go into it much last night, but was able to gain this nugget of info, Dequan Ivery is a ****, big big ****, workout ****, does not like him at all. So we can expect nothing from him this year. Now on the flip side Sonny Odogwu, he and they absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GUY. They love this guy, massive man crush on this kid, so keep an eye out for him, he might actually even crack the two deep this year as a freshman. And this is after the U Tough and inital workout sessions.

UM Board of Trustees Statement:
"While I believe that the University of Miami will emerge stronger and more committed than ever to the letter and the spirit in which the NCAA’s rules of conduct were established, the trustees respectfully, but firmly, add our own voice to President Shalala’s in asking that no further sanctions be imposed on the dedicated, talented, and outstanding men and women who proudly represent the Miami Hurricanes."

The NCAA did NOT "f up." F-ing up is how we describe people making really bad mistakes (like, say, taking money from a guy running a Ponzi scheme).
The NCAA undertook a course of action that its own lawyers advised them not to take, just because they wanted to nail UM -- a school that was going out of its way to cooperate. Its actions were completely willful, and undertaken with full awareness of the impropriety.
It's still not clear to me that the NCAA committed any CRIMES, but it very well may have been part of a civil conspiracy. And contrary to Sports Illustrated, you can't just make that go away by saying "Oops! Bygones."
Posted by: dj moonbat | February 22, 2013 at 09:49 AM
You would not want to underestimate Donna Shalala on a tennis court. Or in a poker game. Or in a boxing ring.
The NCAA has a nasty cut over its eye, and Shalala is pummeling it, making it bleed.
The University of Miami president is doing something unprecedented: She is fighting back.

I love how May says Miami should get what they "deserve"..how in the hell does he know what we deserve since NONE of us know what was actually true. Shapio is in jail for lying and stealing..he also flatly said he had an ax to grind with UM..in a court of law all his allegations would be considered "hear say" and thrown out..but May knows what is true and what we deserve lol

I cannot stand them...they need to be ....amputated like a bull!!!!! So do Mike and Mike I cannot stand them....Golic is a fat slob from ND....Greeny is well... a closet crossdresser from Northwestern!!!! I love to see the Jest lose just to hear him cry!!! I am proud of Donna, shes is a smart lady...yes we made mistakes but enough is enough!!! She is on their azz!!! She is a tough little lady!!!!

Him and Holtz are morons...I dont care what people think of Holtz he is so stupid and May is just as bad.
Shapiro needs his ass kicked as well...I am sure something else is happening to his hind parts now...he deserves whatever happens to him....including a shive in the back for being a snitch.....no guts. How could a group of supposedly educated people listen to his line? Well if it involves us.....so be it!!
Posted by: VA Cane | February 22, 2013 at 11:45 AM
Pretty interesting thought from a poster on Canesinsight..
Here are the coaches who Shapiro named as dirty. Now it would have to be a TREMENDOUS coincidence that this outcome was found:
Pannunzio, Stoutland, and Haith (all employed at SEC schools during the investigation) will not receive show causes. In the case of the two Bama pricks, not even a NOA.
Morton, Fernandez, Hill, Hurrt were all NOT at SEC schools during the investigation, and all will receive Show Cause penalties.
Was Shapiro lying, and it just so happens that the coaches he lied about ended up on SEC programs?
Posted by: UMike | February 22, 2013 at 11:59 AM
People keep asking how could Nevin Shapiro con so many educated people. It's easy. Just because you're educated doesn't mean you're wise. Common sense isn't very common. Shapiro manipulated educated idiots with game(street smarts). In the hood we say game recognizes game. Randy Shannon saw a lot fo game growing up in Liberty City. So he peeped Shapiro's angle quickly. The UM administration & NCAA investigators, not so much. Most "EDUCATED" people are smart with books but idiots versus "GAME". Shapiro had enough "game" to seem legit, educated & high class. All the while running a street hustle on white collar society. The vengance against the "U" by baiting the NCAA was his grande finale MASTERPIECE. His hidden agenda in all of this... SCHEMING THE NCAA FOR A PHONE & COMMISARY! LMFAO
Posted by: CoCane | February 22, 2013 at 12:05 PM
Fellas, everyone is entitled to their opinions, Mark May and whomever. Yure either wit us or agin us. I can't stand Lou Holtz and his slobbering self but I like Mark May. He is not who are problem is with. Once we start winning, trust me, he will be singing our praise, like the rest of these zero's who are calling for our heads. Half you guys hate DENO but I'm sure if the defense somehow remembers how to play this game, all those nay-sayers, will be patting him on the back. We got ourselves into this predicament and are very lucky the NCAA has given us a somewhat easy out, now all Donna needs to do is figure out the best way to take advantage of this gracious gift the NCAA has handed us. Naturally, they are not going to go down without a fight but in the end they will have to surcum to our wishes. It might take us having to sue them and of course this will only drag out longer but it will give us another first and show all the other membering schools how to bust the NCAA's chops.

I wondering when arrests will start being considered a "lack of institutional control"...if you are constantly having players arrested, obviously there is a lack of control

To add to that comment above about the SEC seeming skating here..remember the Cam Newton issue? I mean..Cam just said he didnt know his dad got paid..and that was it, they let him go..not even suspended for the bowl game lol..so if Shapiro had given money to players parents..and all the players said, "oh, we didnt know"..we would get off? lol

Yeah O_C, that's funny too, if the rat face fink says something twice, that's corroboration that it happened. If the former UM player says nothing happened twice to investigators, that's not corroboration of the allegation not being true. Only one of the two statement makers is in jail for Ponzi schemes though.

You can't say no one. The investigators were told not to touch him by someone in the office that peeped game. Shannon & Reed peeped game in UM's office. Those that didn't take heed, didn't have the game to recognize...
The key ingredient in his game is blinding you by offering just what you're looking for. That's always a hustlers bait. The next thing is making it sound good enough to reel them all the way in. As for Golic, defends Holtz' opinions, but he went there the fat food eating slob. They showed him this morning cramming food in his mouth different times....what a fat slob. They could make a movie The Fat ND Slob that ate Cleveland...his hometown!!! But the worst is when they chairdance.....moroans. I enjoy the format of radio/tv, but despise the messengers.
