Not good..

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami finally received its notice of allegations from the NCAA, which accused the school of having a "lack of institutional control" for not monitoring the conduct of a booster who provided thousands of dollars in cash, gifts and other items to football and men's basketball players.

Blah blah... Miami gets to finally defend itself. Emmett may lose his job over this "debacle"! No more post season bans, NCAA wants schorlorships Prob 20-30 over 3 years. Hell, the NCAA may even get em "they are crooked" but at what price? I have NEVER seen or heard so many reputable reporters go after the NCAA like this. In the end This 2.5 year investigation may cost the NCAA more than Miami "and I hope so! " Time to FINALLY MOVE FORWARD!!!!!!!!!

Great win lastnight CANES!!!!

I think we all saw this coming. They can bring whatever they want....i just hope Miami takes them to court.

mi@mic@ne

Miami is not shoot well but I think when they climbed into the top ten ...starting with the FSU game the foul calls from ACC officials turned against them. I think they are disheartened... they got a good call at the end of the Clemson game but the rest of the game was called onesided...its been extremely physical underneath ...lol

LB

It would be extremely wise for the NCAA not to impose additional penalties. The very fact that the oft-private Shalala has suddenly taken to the press means that she has the upper hand, and knows it.

The NCAA also knows it. Also remember that the NCAA attempted to extort testimony from former players.

How did that work out for Miami? lol

I did not know there was a family connection there.

UMike

LB...Rivals had mentioned something about it..but of course didnt say who they meant lol

LB

As for Griffin:

Miami has gotten some ELITE offensive talent in conjunction with the 2012 class. If Coley can coach even a little, the ACC is toast.

Shape up that defense.

LB

I just saw some highlights of Griffin. He is PHYSICAL and loves to block. He extends in the air and has intelligence in traffic. Forget tight end, put him at receiver and let him eat TD's.

Standish will have that middle covered.

UM is giving their QB's every opportunity in the world to succeed.

So is the NCAA targeting our basketball program and not the football program?

herbieibis

Well the Herb has been away a couple of weeks, gathering his thoughts and getting over the depression of no DT's for the recruiting class and has seen, low and behold, we went from having no ships left, according to AL, to adding a few more offensive weapons, in Elder & Griffin, great pick ups I might add, but if we had these ships left over how about helping our porous defense. Now to the NCAA, I knew no matter how much they botched the investigation, that they weren't going to sit back & still not try to penalize us further. The dreaded Lack Of Institutional Control BS means that they are still not satisfied, with what we have already done to ourselves and that they want more blood. This Prick Emmert, is nothing more than a self serving Prima Donna who enjoys being in the spot light. The Herb strongly urges, by whatever means neccessary, that The "U" not give the NCAA another bowl, another ship, another DAM thing. The infractions committee can do themselves a favor and just drop this whole mess in the waste basket but they won't because they hate the "U". They may not give us another bowl ban but best you believe they will want us to hand over some more ships. They have to save face somehow. Donna should & will do the right thing, when this occurs and that is to sue this morons, when they try to levee more penalties on us. The only way this doesn't drag out for a long time, is that those gray beards, acknowledge, we've suffered enough and acccept the payments we have already submitted. The Herb has spoken!

Tim Reynolds - AP report: Hurtt, Hill and Fernandez got the Rule 10.1 citings because NCAA believes they "misled" probe.

Allegations Made Simple:

1. U are accussed by someone in jail for lying since when does this hold-up the dude stole $930 MILLION frm families, homes, etc..etc but he is credible enough to take educations, scholarships, and rights to perform as an athlete....bs
2. Donna is in poker mode and if I am correct thru all the reading I have had of Donna she is a Shark she has LOTS of say so and its weird tht a person with tht much pull and say so is belittled by so many ie.U hobit lovers(I cant even spell it right its so lame HATERS)
3. Self-Imposing is more than any other school has done in the face of danger if I am correct we are the only school to sit out of bowl and championship contention when others who's cases are far worst continued to play as if sanctions didnt matter ie. Money over Everything..
4. More Important than all...the names this dude uses as the basis of his argument like KellenWinslow: already well to do his dad is a hall of famer Im sure your money wasnt new to K2....Trel Rolle his dad is chief of police and ST26(greatest cane) Im sure your money meant nothing to those guys all tht to say this case is BS and Miami should sue AND Win..

BTW Happy Wednesday party people

Canesfan_1

They have come away with something: player suspensions, players kicked off team, scholarship reductions, practice reductions, recruiting visits reductions, 3 post season games, and more

They have enough to save face, we're not giving them blood. No more. No mas!

Shalala has handled this perfectly, so her critics now must finally understand she knows what she's doing

If true, that would be good news. I can't see what LOIC if procedures were in place, all the coaches were educated, but personally "misled".

Another day begins. The leaks are going to be brutal, I wish they'd just release the whole thing and get it over with. As for basketball, thank God we have a new staff. I'll have to be reminded again why we didn't skip the NIT last year, but at least this current staff has an idea of how to build a program.

Was out driving in a rare opp. for the first time in mid-morning in years and got to hear Dan Sileo for the first time. The comments on how obnoxious and off-base he is don't do him justice. What an a-hole! I suppose the U should stop accepting rich people's donations next, and should know in advance if they might turn out to be criminals....like they're the only university that is trying to make money. Amazing how quickly some forget their roots.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8962913/first-second-year-coaches-making-big-impact-new-programs-college-basketball

As some of you may be aware, the trend in college football is 2nd year coaches have huge impacts on improving their teams and winning national championships, apparently not so much in college basketball despite the fact it's easier from a mathematical perspective to do so there.

LOIC is a reflection of Special K's unique brand of idiotic lack of leadership, nothing more or less. Easily the worst AD in UM history hands down, always a special, "F you," to that jug-head.

Sorry your house got robbed Shawn Eichorst. Thanks for the great basketball coach.

indiy499

Canes D certainly has gotten us through the last few hoops games. The O needs to rewire a little bit, imho. Too much dribbling up top---Larkin needs to increase the penetration and we need to dump into the paint more and get it back out quickly. Our 2 man game has really dropped off.

Former Georgia Tech basketball coach Bobby Cremins, a new member of the NCAA’s committee on infractions, said last month that the NCAA should have been “really, really, skeptical” about using Nevin Shapiro as a source.

The University of Miami now must hope that other members of the infraction committee feel the same way.

When UM officials present their case before the committee, possibly in June, they will assert, among other things, that several of the allegations leveled against UM were not corroborated and that the NCAA is relying, as president Donna Shalala said, “on the word of a man who made a fortune by lying.”

Two UM sources said initial sentiment is that the school likely would not appeal very limited scholarship reductions but would vehemently fight additional postseason bans in football and any in basketball.

“If there’s a strong penalty, we would appeal,” one of the UM officials said, cautioning that nothing will be decided definitively until the process plays out.

UM likely will not know for many months whether it will receive any additional punishment beyond what it already has self-imposed, including two football bowl bans, 10 player suspensions and a few football scholarships.

Cremins is the only one of the 18 infraction committee members that has spoken publicly about the UM case, and he might not even be assigned to it.

Thompson was clearly the clutch offensive player of the game for the Canes, with a two run shot and two walks, including one early in the 11th that resulted in the game winning run (Barr put in to pinch run for him). Not bad for the freshman qb...

Way to hang in there in a midweek game, especially the way FAU hit the lights out of it(15 hits), but without plating many runs to match.

Outta here. G'night, all.

"I don't think there's any question."- Al Golden

UMike

After reading all the reports and time tables, this might effect yet another recruiting class. Unless the committee on infractions decides to not believe a convicted felon, and considers all the harm we have already done to ourselves and gives s a light punishment, no way UM wont appeal, stretching it close to signing day or beyond before we know our punishment. Rivals coaches are going to go 100% overboard with the "lack of institutional control" thing and how bad it is and how bad the penalties will be. On another note, I doubt UM will hold back on scholarships, visits etc and with our schedule we should win 9 to 10 games and play for the ACC title..that may help in recruiting more than anything.

LB

Whitlock's interview is really powerful. The NCAA and Charles Robinson seem very foolish when applying basic intellectual and investigative principles to this process.

I'm not jumping on the bandwagon because I love UM, but because of my media background. Here's the link again. Please listen and pass along to the UM decision-makers:

Different panel as far as I'm aware tbc.

http://www.bruinsnation.com/2010/7/1/1542658/sanctions-the-ncaa-appeals-process

Old news but reviews the Southern Cal appeal as it was being delivered, you'll have to do the proper accounting for how stupid their AD was in stonewalling the investigation versus how lenient the COI in UM's case will be from the 'unprecedented' level of cooperation in the investigation.

UMike

Jethro being considered for job at OU

UMike

Great post by someone at Canesinsight..

"I've seen posters commenting on the quote from Golden regarding Kirkland, then signing 3 more kids. The hard cap meant that he wasn't going over 85 scholarships. If MT, Collins and Bostwick all picked Miami that would have left no extra scholarship for Denver. If he guaranteed that he was picking them they would have let him keep it and given the hard line to another prospect. He decided to play the game and say that we were in his top 3 so Miami moved on.

Since those 3 picked other schools we had some openings that were not known to the coaches at the time. And so Golden added 3 Stud athletes to our program.

The 2014 kids that really want to go to the []_[] better not be playing games and if they do and get left behind hopefully we don't have to listen to local idiots cry about it."
