First! (or to be precise: First 1st!)

Kehoe ist the man, his unit will be great for years to come.

Old Skool

The hits just keep on coming

LB

Good Lord. 86 is punishing the blogosphere.

Well done, my friend.
-----------------
I really like the way the receivers are blocking downfield. I'm still up in the air about the dropped passes.

Dallas has established himself as the #2 tailback. I'd like to see a solid #3.

Is it possible that Olsen Pierre gives us a glimmer of hope at DT?

We all know why Seantrel is smiling here... and it's not his potential first round status. :)

Notes on Kirby from Manny:
- As a sophomore, he can already bench the NFL test 28 times (Perryman at 33).
- Splitting time with Gaines at MLB, but more often than not a black shirt.
- After the nasty hit in the scrimmage, he was made to run sprints after practice. No bad blood at all.

86 lighting the blogosphere on FIRE!

LB

Stuff that doesn't matter, but since it's defense:

Mike Smith (Northwestern, DE/OLB) may commit soon. Notable listed offers include Clemson, Mississippi State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

Per Ariz: Jaboree Williams wants to earn a Cane offer.

"When asked if he would be camping at Miami this summer, Williams wasn’t shy with his answer.

“Yes sir, I definitely will. I want to be MVP and leave with an offer. I want the coaches to know who I am by the end of the day.”

Chris Lammons (CB):
- UM makes top 5, should attend spring game

I am starting to hear (or read lol) some grumblings about Sony to UGA. Ohio..any insight on this?

At the discretion of OGV, I'm predicting Sony to UGA. That is all. We'll find out April 26th.

He's like KC, when he decides, it's done for good.

Terrance Sullivan

Art Kehoe is the man. 86 Dan Patrick approves your comment above. Another good article. Go Canes.

Ohio_Cane

any insight on this?

Seriously tho, I think he ends up a Cane.

There will be people saying he'll be this or that up until the 26th, just because that's how it is. He loves UM. He loves UGA. He's said it many times.

If he goes to UGA, it won't be for lack of trying. We've recruited him since he was in 8th grade.

Ohio_Cane

LB, Mike Smith will commit to Miami after he takes his ACT

UMike

Ohio...I think there is some confusion also about Cook and Sony. I THOUGHT it was Cook's mom who was saying she wanted him out of South Florida, but recently people have been saying Sony's mom made that comment. I'm scared to make a prediction at this point..but someone made a great point on Canesinsight..would Sony make a decision this early if he was going to UGA? Meaning, why would he want to take all the heat from local people for that long.

UMike

Never heard/read about Sony's mom saying that.

Regarding Sony: If we get him, it's HUGE. If we don't, it hurts. Bad.

Regarding Sony: If we get him, it's HUGE. If we don't, it hurts. Bad.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | April 10, 2013 at 10:44 AM

I agree, that would mean we lost out on the TOP LOCAL recruit 3 of the last 4 years. We missed on Cooper & MT6..but got Howard. I dont know if it hurts from a depht standpoint or the fact that this is a top local kid who has constantly visited and claims to have grown up a Cane fan...to me those are players you simply cannot loose, especially to freakin UGA lol

Canesfan_1

Regarding Sony: ... If we don't, it hurts. Bad.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | April 10, 2013 at 10:44 AM

I totally disagree. This would be a compkete overreaction. Are you aware of the backs we have coming in this summer, plus who else is available to sign in 2014?

Let's not overreact. As much as I would love to have Sony, I'd trade him straight up for a stud DT or two.

Canesfan_1

Ladies, let's not get all ridiculous over one recruit with a suspect knee.

UMike

Canesfan_1..who is getting "ridiculous"? We are just talking about a Cane recruit. After all, this is a Canes blog lol...we do need some DT's, but it would hurt to lose a top local recruit. Obviously not program breaker, but would hurt.

Canesfan_1

Talking about how bad it would hurt to lose him or how we simply cannot lose him is, in my opinion, a complete overreaction

Read your posts again, you guys sound like a bunch of hysterical little old ladies. Losing this recruit is barely a speed bump.

LB

"At the discretion of OGV, I'm predicting Sony to UGA. That is all. We'll find out April 26th."

"Seriously tho, I think he ends up a Cane.

Duck season! Wabbit season!

LB

Getting Sony would be awesome, but losing him is in no way a deal breaker.

Take a logical look at the offensive talent we've assembled now on the roster. Take another look at the talent we've got signed and yet to step on campus.

There is no such thing as a deal breaking recruit. The most important recruit in my opinion isn't even in the 2014 class.

He's in the 2015 class. Ricky Town, come on down.

UMike

Canesfan_1..lets try to keep those type of comments to yourself..being a fake online tough guy will get you no where lol.."hysterical little old ladies"..really dude? Noone said it would kill the program, only that it would hurt, how is that a complete overreaction?

UMike

I am also reading that with Smith's impending commitment, JoJo Robinson my flip soon also..I really like that kid, IDC if he is only a 3-Star, he is a ball player

Canesfan_1

Come on, UMike, that was tame, and in no way am I trying to be a tough guy. You're way too sensitive if you can't take that.

I'm honestly trying to get the point across that we don't need to be in "sky is falling" mode over ONE recruit. Just like all the losers last recruiting cycle that said Golden was totally losing South Florida in recruiting

UMike

Canesfan_1...I will agree there is no need for the "sky is falling" mode..and I dont think we said anything like that lol..Not sensitive at all, but i dont exactly like being called a little old lady.....I agree a lot of fans overreact to ONE recruit, but in my opinion losing out on Sony is more about a trend at Miami where we lose the top local recruit. I in no way think it would be a program breaker, hell we dont even know if he will be any good in college lol

Canesfan_1

losing out on Sony is more about a trend at Miami where we lose the top local recruit.

//////

Your comment above is why I came at you. You have been pushing an agenda for weeks now. Admit it.

UMike

Canesfan...I have been pushing an agenda? WTF are you talking about man lol...IMO, that is a trend..Cooper, MT6 and Sony (if he does leave)...I have barely been on here in weeks, so how in the world would I have an agenda? lol

Ohio_Cane

Canesfan, way to overreact to what I said, and start the name-calling. Maybe I should've explained further than leaving it at "It hurts. Bad."

In no way did I mean it from a depth perspective. I'm well aware the RB position one of our strengths.

That said, Golden wants 3 RBs this cycle, so he obviously thinks there's a certain depth he wants for the future for if/when Duke leaves early. We have 1 committed right now (Yearby)

This is a kid who has publicly stated that he's loved UM since he was 5 years old. He also stated that it was his dream to be a RB for UM. He also is the top local recruit. He also is a top national recruit. He also has been recruited by us since he was in 8th grade. We were his first offer, ever.

If I need to explain further, please ask, and I will.

UMike

be careful Ohio..you might be accused of having an agenda lol

Canesfan_1

Nope. No further explanation needed. You and Umike's comments speak for themselves.
You're entitled to your opinion, I strongly disagree. Losing him is no big deal with the improvement in recruiting and the classes we're going to see, especially with the NCAA uncertainty ending before the next 2014 signing date.
But if you want to go into panic mode over one recruit, then feel free

Ohio_Cane

You're more than welcome to disagree. It's just an opinion of mine.

I'm not trying to make it out to be all "OMG THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD!!" or anything like that.

However, it hurts, IMO. It hurts our momentum we've got going with the most recent committments. He's better than Cook (committed to UF the other day), he's better than Yearby. Hell, I think he's better than Fournette, who's listed as the #1 RB in the nation.

Suspect knee tho? Does Willis have a suspect knee? His pro career speaks for itself and his injury was 3x worse than Sony's.

Ohio_Cane

PS - No comment of mine, ever, looked like any kind of panic mode. I said it hurt. I believe it does.

I think it hurts local recruits, who haven't decided yet, seeing one of the top guys leave the area and spurning his (very publicly stated) favorite team since he was 5.

orange 'n green in the vein

UMike, I told you, just a few more references to 13-11 records or a 54.1% percentage at UM would get apologists out to try and call you on an, 'agenda.'

Of course the joke's on them because the agenda is calling it like you see it and not sugar coating everything the substandard coaching staff does, but that won't stop them from trying their 54.1% best. Recruiting failures being mentioned will take a little more time to get the same result simply because they're tough to project just how bad they are until four years later, but that record and winning percentage will set them off instantly. Go ahead and throw one in there, you'll see.

UMike

lol OGV...all I did was say I am "hearing/reading" Sony might go to UGA and I agreed with Ohio that it would hurt and all of a sudden I am a little old lady with an agenda lol

The Dude

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! This blog is a hoot sometimes. Great article 86. Love Kehoe, now about Sol...

The Dude

UMike, I'm confused? Are you a little old lady with an agenda, or do you have a little old lady agenda? Ha ha!

UMike

lol..im confused myself haha

Canesfan_1

Aligning yourself with OGV on Golden screams agenda.

Here's more of your lame agenda: "losing out on Sony is more about a trend at Miami where we lose the top local recruit."

UMike has been heading down the OGV road for a while and it sounds like Ohio is ready to hop on with the "woe is us if we don't get Sony" narrative

Hassan

Hurlie is a good coach.

will will be 2000 loaded by 2014 but we need a trigerman, Olsen has to show it, he can be it though, 14 years is a long climb back

CaneRock

CF1...HELL YEAH! losing Sony is a BIG! freakin' deal...internally, and externally.
What I mean by internally, is, look at the UM players reaction when Collins announced He was going to Arky. Hell, even Golden said we "NEED!" at least 2 big time backs last recruiting cycle. Those kids are difference makers, you can't teach the type of stuff that they possess. You mean to tell me that Duke Johnson wasn't/isn't a difference maker, He's probably responsible for us having at least 2 more wins than we should've had.

Ohio_Cane

Canesfan, U obviously don't read what I post daily...

herbieibis

It is bothersome losing the big time local kids. Sony has been loving the "U" forever but how many times have we heard that one, only to see them end up somewhere else. The trend I see is us not taking care of the defense, the way the offense has been taken care of. RB's are a dime a dozen and remember, he's already had one knee operation, so if he wants to go to Georgia and sit behind Marshall & Gurly for a year or 2 let him. Would we love to have him, hell yes, but no rb is going to make or break us, we'll just go swipe cook from Clemson.

CaneRock

And AFAIC, UM is trending up, while UGA is trending down. Richt couldn't even keep the best players in the state home, hell, UGA wasn't even in the conversation for a lot of those kids. And that's the difference, good or bad, the local kids are talking about UM, we've got their attention, we're not an afterthought like UGA.

Canesfan_1

That moment when you realize that there is more than one stud running back in the 2014 signing class

86Cane

CanesFan_1...if anyone has an agenda it is U since U joined Canespace a few months ago. I'm jus sayin.

Canesfan_1

Posted by: Canesfan_1 | April 10, 2013 at 02:50 PM

Does that make me "Anit-Cane" lol..Me and OGV hardly agree on anything lol..So when I came on yesterday (or maybe the day before) and said we could land another in state 4-star OL..was that part of my agenda? Or how about the 100's of times I have praised Golden and this staff, was that all part of my agenda too? lol..Just because there are other "studs" in the 2014 class doesnt meant losing out on Sony wont hurt. I will say it AGAIN..I never said this would be a program breaker or the end of the world lol..I just agreed with Ohio that it would hurt..and how could you argue that IF we lose out on Sony that there isnt a trend of Miami missing out on TOP local recruits? IF Sonny chooses UGA that list would include Cooper, Freeman, Geno Smith, Kirkland, Collins, MT6 and Sony...I have numerous times said on this blog I trust this staff with recruits, but that is a trend imo. Of course we got Duke (who was a cane no matter what) and Howard..but after missing on tons of local talent last year if would be nice to get the top local prospects this year like Sony, Clark and Lane.

Ohio_Cane

Mike Smith interview on Rivals: "I'm not going to wait too long, don't want to have Miami waiting because they might pull the offer if you take too long," Smith said. "I already know schools look the other way if you don't commit to them."

Denver Kirkland situation paying dividends? Say it ain't so...

UMike

herbie..no way we land Cook..making Sony that much more important. Cook doesnt want to play behind Yearby, his mom wants him out and there a rumors his parents may have their hands out

CGNC

What's party people? LOL I see 86 has been on a blog posting binge. And fishing. Nice combo

CGNC

^"What's up party people"?

C_F1 = 'sota with a new screenname is my guess. Both are lame IMO.

Golden better hope UM's quidditch team chokes, because ACC titles in basketball and a WORLD title in a made-up popular intercollegiate sport the same year would turn his seat heat up by about 54.1 degrees times 11.

Now that's a hot seat!

Canesfan_1

Now this is something I can get onboard with.

herbieibis

Okay so cook flipped to Da Gators, at least we have one of the three top dogs from the area, so we'll just beat the bushes a find some stiff from another state, no big deal. The Herb's issues are with the forgotten side of the ball.

LB

Get on board or get out of the way. Defense. Now.

orange 'n green in the vein

Forgotten by who? Not the fans herb! I'm still trying to forget what I've seen during the offensive water breaks for two years now and it hasn't faded yet.

herbieibis

I'll tell you what hasn't faded, all those QB's we played against last year, sitting in a dam recliner, smoking a stogie and drinking a mocha before they had to throw the ball. The way we rushed the QB, I swear the other team must of had a restraining order against our DEE-LINE!

TriangleCane

So I looked at video on Sony and Yearby.

Yearby seems to be quicker.

Sony has better balance and strength.

Does this sum it up?

Ohio_Cane

Gators DL coach resigned. That could possibly throw a DL recruit or 2 our way.

Turkey Thomas choked on his stoogie and drink last year so maybe that's the game plan, give them enough time to mentally double clutch and fail to move the ball? That and the crowd noise got to him to make him choke.

As long as they don't hire Kevin Patrick as the replacement, I'm good. Maybe Jethro will be contacted by back-channel communications for the spot? LMAO! That would never happen!

kenyon19ypr

About the DL coach resigning at Florida...

I was scanning Twitter and saw something like "Coaches only resign at this time of the year. Cheating. Either cheating on their wife, or cheating the NCAA."

Don't remember who it was, but definitely an interesting comment haha

What's my agenda other than being pro Cane?

Posted by: Canesfan_1 | April 10, 2013 at 02:50 PM

Your agenda is to attack other bloggers and try to sound superior to everyone else. That is your "agenda".

There is nothing wrong with being positive (I like that!) but that does not mean everone HAS to think like U do or they are wrong or just suck.

Just state your point (you make several good ones BTW) and move on. U don't need to attack or discredit others to make your valid point.

86Cane

OGV...enough with the Golden bashing and the stats. We have read that 1,000 times, try a new trick, or tack on a completly different subject. 'Nuff said.

orange 'n green in the vein

86, Quiditch World Championships, Kissimmee, this weekend, UM favorites for a (did I mention this is for the WORLD?) title, Canespace is going to be there to cover all the golden snitching or not?

CoCane

TriangleCane,

Michel is also faster than Yearby. Yearby is slightly quicker.

So where is the Legion going to be around 1:30 before the spring game saturday? I'm going to stop by & say wuz up...

kenyon19ypr

My Central Michigan University will be represented at the Quidditch Championships, too OGV haha

orange 'n green in the vein

They have pretend wizards with brooms between their legs who chase golden snitches in Central Michigan now too k19? WTH is the country coming to? If UM faces the Chippewas for the best pretend wizard team title in the world this weekend, who are you going to be cheering for?

kenyon19ypr

There are three ways to look at that question OGV...

1. I love my Canes. A LOT.

2. I do go to CMU so...

3. But which team would I be more embarrassed of winning a quidditch title haha

CaneRock

The thing with Michel to UGA is, is He built for the SEC, or better yet, is His RUNNING STYLE suitable for the SEC...

Unlike Collins, Sony is a finesse runner, ala Lamar Miller. I don't see Him running through too many tackles at the College level.

86Cane

OGV...that is a negative on the Quidditch event, no brooms for me. I used to date a girl that...well U get the idea.

Coke...I will be in E5 in the Green parking lot (SE side of the stadium).

Anthonyjmanis

Plain and simple. IF YOUR NOT CHEATING YOUR NOT WINNING. When your the biggest dope dealer on the block and the feds are in town you close shop or go to prison. When the NCAA starts turning there blind eye to the $EC or parents realize sending there kids out of s.fl is a bad life decision. Then we will struggle with top recruits in the state of Miami. Regardless I've seen this story and so did most of you. History always has and will repeat itself. If you don't no what story I'm talking about then you don't know CANES.

Sarasota 'cane

C_F1 = 'sota with a new screenname is my guess. Both are lame IMO.

Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | April 10, 2013 at 03:15 PM

Said the neurotic "D" Bag!

Athelon rated Golden (#19) 15 spots ahead of Muschamp and 16 spots ahead of Jimbo for top coaches in college football. But why would we listen to them when we have you to keep us posted about all things Hurricane.

Sarasota 'cane

OGV...Read your garbage day in and day out and tell me who has an agenda. It's not even debatable. If saying that Al Golden was the right hire at the right time and has improved every aspect of the team then yeah I have an agenda.

If stating that the defense is still one to two recruiting cycles away from what I would like to see then I guess that will have to go as another agenda.

The stronger the team gets the weaker your arguments get. Eventually you'll either slither out of here or jump on the band wagon. Either scenario works for me.

CoCane

Aight Soup. See you Saturday homie...

NEW BLOG IS UP!

CaneRock

Hmmmm...

The defending state champion Miami Central football team has found its new coach.

Multiple sources confirmed to The Miami Herald Wednesday night that the Rockets have hired former Northwestern coach Roland Smith to replace Telly Lockette, who was hired to be the running backs coach at the University of South Florida in March.

Smith returns to coaching high school football in Miami-Dade County after six seasons away.

Smith guided his alma mater Northwestern to a state championship and a perfect 15-0 season in 2006. Smith was then removed along with the majority his coaching staff at the time by then-Dade Schools
Superintendent Rudy Crew in the wake of the scandal involving former Bulls running back Antwain Easterling.

Smith and his coaches were cleared of all wrongdoing in the matter in the ensuing months.

During his six seasons as Northwestern’s coach, Smith led the Bulls to a 69-13 record (best of any team during that span), a state title, a state runner-up finish in 2001, and state semifinal appearances in 2002 and 2005.

Smith had been rumored to be in the running for a few premier coaching vacancies in recent years, including Northwestern and Booker T. Washington before hiring their current coaches.

Smith takes over a Central program that ranks among the nation’s best having won two Class 6A state championships in the past three seasons under Lockette, who guided the Rockets to a 60-10 record in five seasons.

Central has advanced to three consecutive state finals and have not lost to a Dade opponent since 2008.
