My thoughts exactly CaneRock! Willie Will is the 1 obsessed with USC, not me.

Posted by: 4-Real | July 07, 2013 at 04:15 PM

Me????????

So you tellin me that you wuznt ridin Lame's wave all of last year??????

WWIM

Also, do any of U KNOW Berrios didn't commit already and want to stay silent to be fair to the other coaches he already told he'd check their school out before committing? Seriously, someone try and tell me "yes" to that question.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | July 07, 2013 at 04:27 PM

Ohio you right and I actually think he prolly has committed. But how did he make us look to other recruits???? I'm tired of all these recruits ridin this "Dream School" wave. If you claim yo dream girl is Meagan Good and she calls you up one night at 2am and says "I'm bout to come pick you up", and yo response is "I'll think about it and I'll call you back". WTF is that BS

Where honey nut went wrong at wuz frontpagin dis BS like it wuz breakin newz

4-Real

I wasn't riding Lane Kiffin's wave Willie, just questioning why YOU alwayz hatin on it!

Ohio_Cane

I agree with the "dream school" crap, as its now old hat and actually makes me think they will commit elsewhere.

Berrios "front paging" it was how excited he is getting the offer. Golden and staff have a lot of other guys to evaluate before they do so for a slot wr. I think that's what took some time. He won MVP at our camp and then went and showed the world he's elite at the opening.

UMike, are U predicting Nigel to not pick UM? If so, I'll take that bet and give U 5/1 odds.

WWIM

^^^^^

4real, what has he EVER done???? Has he won anything??? He had ONE yes ONE good season in his WHOLE ENTIRE CAREER!! He got fired from da raiders after da 4th game of his second season wit a 5-15 record and I don't know why da hell ut wanted him so bad, I think cuz of his dad. Here's a quote from Al Davis. At the televised news conference announcing the firing, Davis called Kiffin "a flat-out liar" and said he was guilty of "bringing disgrace to the organization".

What is there to hate on??? Does that answer yo question?? LOL

UMike

Ohio..Yea..I think Bethal is going to an SEC school, TN or KY..just my feeling at the moment, but I hope I am wrong...

As for the "dream school", I guess it can go both ways. I mean, on one hand I thin if it is fact your dream school you commit on the spot, but on the other hand there could be a lot of factors. What if you grew up loving Miami, but cant stand D-No, or Coley? What if Miami doesn't have your major? What if you know you cannot qualify? What if you hate that Miami is losing? Just saying I can understand a kid or his parents looking at options before he commits.

4-Real

At least kiffin WAS hired by the raiders Willie! U act like he was the only coach fired by the raiders. Now if I ask the same questions about Golden.....

WWIM

^^^^^^^
When Golden came to Temple they had only won THREE GAMES da three years before he got there, so they averaged 1 win/year. And did I mention that this wuz at TEMPLE!!!!

4-Real

Turner Gill took over a buffalo program that was just as terrible as temple & led buffalo to a Mac championship. Your point?

CoCane

As for this dream school stuff...

Let me remind you about Mr. Randy "Duke" Johnson.

He grew up a fan of the "U". He dreamed of playing for the "U" & repping the orange & green. So when he got offered, he committed. It didn't matter how fukked up the circumstances were, he was coming to the "U". Because UM is his DREAM SCHOOL. Anybody that does anything other than what Duke did but claims UM is their dream school is full of shyt. PERIOD...

4-Real

Great point UMike.

WWIM

He won at Temple and this year is his year to prove what he's about at UM

UMike

Co..I agree with you man..but where a kid goes to school is going to effect the rest of his life and just because a kid grew up loving one school doesnt mean it is he right fit for him or the best choice for his future, that is all Im saying. Not every kid will be a Duke Johnson, although it would be nice lol.

4-Real

I sincerely hope your right Willie!

WWIM

Thomas, the nation’s No. 2 linebacker prospect, signed with FSU but said in April he would not report and wanted to attend Georgia or USC instead. But FSU coach Jimbo Fisher wouldn’t grant his release, USC’s calls went unreturned by FSU, and Thomas agreed to remain a Seminole.

A UM official said Thomas told UM he would sign with Miami on National Signing Day, so changing his mind was nothing new for him.

UMike, this is EXACTLY what I told U he should do. Makes me feel better. U can say "$EC bound" to all the recruits U want, tho. Unless he's been told by our staff "don't commit, it's no longer a committable offer" he's a Cane.

To all recruits,

DO NOT COMMIT if u not 100% sure, wait till NSD or hell even after that, jus go thru da whole process sayin u don't know if u got to.If u wanna play these lil silly ass hat games on NSD i'm cool wit dat, jus don't lead anybody on. DO NOT MENTION a school as yo DREAM SCHOOL if u have a offer from em and don't commit, if u don't qualify or can't get in for some reason then thats a different story. Wait till u sign wit dat school then say thats yo DREAM SCHOOL, or if yo DREAM SCHOOL didn't offer u then thats a different story too.

Bottom line, DO NOT COMMIT unless u are 100% sure thats da school u goin to

CoCane

Real shyt

To say UM was my favorite team growing up but that won't factor in my choice of which school I will attend. I can feel that. That's keeping it 100.

Bullshyt

I grew up a big UM fan. It's been my dream to play for the "U". I hope they offer me. It would be the biggest offer ever. It would be a dream come true. (That sounds like a kid that would commit on the spot once offered. Then UM offers a week later & he responds like this)...

Wow! I can't believe I actually got a UM offer. I'm speechless. I've dreamed of this moment my whole life. I'll visit a few more schools. UM might make my final 5. I don't know yet. We'll see after I take my visits...

WTF?! Where dey do dat at?

Home home for my city and to the no 1 institution in the state of Florida The U.

Montreal-Cane

Any big time South Florida recruit should be proud to stay home to represent the University of Miami a world class University, the no.1 institution in the state of Florida on one of the most beautiful campus in North America.

A university with the best football program in the last 30 years and on the rise once again with a great coaching staff under one of the classiest coach in America Al Golden.

Unless you don't have acceptable grades or you prefer to learn how to go to prison at UF with the trailor park boys or attend FSU to learn how to cheat on your next exam(an FSU diploma...even a cave man can do it!), you have no reason not to play for your world class city at Miami...

Duke Johnson knew that all the way but Duke is an intelligent man proud of his city and where he is coming from. A very humble superstar who knew all the way that the U is the best fit...No BS...no recruiting drama, good maturity and the man is in a class by himself.

Home for my city...

Demetrius Jackson update

Booker T. Washington OLB Demetrius Jackson (Miami commit) sent this tweet tonight: "I'm committed to my teammates and Booker t Washington ... that's ... will focus on college after the season .. decision time after season"

I asked him about the meaning behind the tweet and he told me that he is still committed to Miami.

UMike

per Ariz ^^^^^^

UMike

From Nash...

OLB Perry is 'Canes first 2015 commit

In the span of six days in late June, Miami picked up nine verbal commitments. Eight of which were in the 2014 class. The sole 2015 commit was outside-linebacker Charles Perry from Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

At six-foot-two, 200-pounds, Charles Perry is a beast. But luckily for the 'Canes, Perry has been a Miami fan all his life.

"I've been a 'Canes fan since I was seven years old." said Perry.

There is no doubt about Charles' work ethic as he and his teammates at Royal Palm Beach high school have spent the better part of their summer working out.

"Monday through Thursday at 6 A.M. Working out, running, going over the play book, watching film and all that good stuff." said Perry.

On June 23rd, Perry attended the Al Golden football camp for the second straight year.

"I went last year and I went this year. This year we had a good time training with the linebackers coach, coach Barrow. Then coach Barrow took my family and I on a tour of the school. It was nice to see the new facilities. Then I had a good conversation with Al Golden, and everything went from there. I got offered and I committed." said Perry.

Perry said he felt like he knew he was going to get offered heading into the camp and he obviously didn't waste anytime committing as he committed on the spot.

So does Charles feel like he has to be a leader or ambassador of this 2015 recruiting class?

"Yes, honestly, it's just a blessing. I didn't know I was the first commit for 2015 until like 2-3 days after I had committed." said Perry.

Even though Miami was and still is Charles' dream school, he isn't closing his recruitment just yet.

"I mean I want to say I'm 100% a Hurricane but you never know what could happen. I still have two years left of high school." said Perry.

*Charles doubles as running-back for his high school team

DT Gaillard Update..

Talks to Jethro. Was supposed to visit Miami one of the last 2 weekends but couldn't. Family went in vacation. Wants to get down. Planning to go to UGA and Clemson July 20. Plans to get down to see Miami at some point. No favorites but should be committed by the time the season starts.

[Denzel Perryman] - [Junior] - [Linebacker] - [6'0", 236 LBS] - [Coral Gables, Florida]
He does it all. (Photo: Greg M. Cooper - US Presswire)

There's no secret that the University of Miami produces great NFL players. UM produces so many players that the fans often argue about what position "U", Miami is. You could make the argument for almost every position on the gridiron, and linebackers have a legitimate case. We've gotten to enjoy names like, Ray Lewis, Jon Beason, Jonathan Vilma.. Denzel Perryman?

Denzel Perryman was a three-star prospect coming out of high school by ESPN, and was slotted as the 28th best linebacker in the country. While many hoped he was going to be a 'Cane from the start, he was being recruited heavily by then new Florida head coach, Will Muschamp. Despite Muschamp's efforts, Perryman decided to stay home and become a Miami Hurricane, and thank god for that.

If you got a chance to see Perryman play in high school, you could actually tell people stories about when Perryman was "small". Perryman was a solid 205 pounds during his senior year and he laid some incredible hits (my old high school included). Three years later, he is now at 236 pounds, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise, he really is ALL muscle. He was the heart and soul of those Cavaliers teams. He was their kick-returner at times, he punted, oh and yeah, he also recorded 137 tackles as a senior. If you wanna see how awesome Denzel was in high school, check this video out.

The Atlantic Coast Conference: our path to the National Championship game. The University of Miami brought their talents, along with Virginia Tech, to the ACC in 2004. Since then, the Hokies have notched 4 ACC titles while Miami has yet to claim its first. This is a hard concept to grasp for Hurricanes fans, who got used to manhandling the Big East year in and year out. If there is one heavily overlooked attribute of Al Golden's, it would be his familiarity with the Atlantic Coast Conference. Al's years at Boston College (coached linebackers 1997-99) and the University of Virginia (graduate assistant 1994-96, defensive coordinator 2001-05) play a major role in his mindset. Golden's relationships with other coaches around the ACC are strong as well. As Sun Tzu said in The Art of War: "Know thyself, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories." Sun Tzu is conspicuously silent when it comes to NCAA investigations, but let's hope those thousand victories are right around the corner.

Good long read...

CoCane..I agree with you about the offer crap lol..I HATE when a kid openly asked for an offer for a school..then doesnt commit. But they do it to try and raise their rankings. You will hear "I also want offers from Miami and Bama"..why, you can only choose one lol..it is what it is lol

UMike

Off Topic...

I remember watching Roy Jones Jr for years...easily my favorite boxer off all time and on of the greatest. I remember watching it genuine shock and sadness when Tarver knocked him out. It was truly an end of an era and the end of being a boxing fan for me. It was the end of greatness. I think some people will feel the same way about Anderson Silva..but not me. He deserved to get knocked out. You do not get much more disrespectful than he was in that fight. I'm glad Weidman checked dudes chin.

UMike

Tito doin work..

2014 Delray Beach (Fla.) defensive end Kevin Bronson is looking to end his senior year off on a good mark and has been working with his team this summer to get better.

“We are coming in at four o’clock every day. mondays, wednesdays and friday’s we are lifting and on tuesday’s we are doing conditioning.”

Bronson is always working on his craft as he is continuously looking to get better.

“Getting even more quicker off the ball and my pass rush. My technique is something thats important too.”

While the 6’3 233 pound rusher is looking to help his team make a deep playoff run. Their is one date he is circling on the schedule for next year.

“Glades Day, because every year they beat us and this is going to be my senior year and I want to go out winning and on top.”

Bronson has been hearing from multiple schools such as Rutgers, Miami, and Arkansas and seems to be enjoying the recruiting process.

“It’s going alright, it gets tiring with all the mail and stuff they send you. I probably get three phone calls a day from coaches.”

The Delray Beach product currently has no leaders but is very interested in the hometown team.

“I like them because they put a lot of players in the league and it’s really close to home.”

The Hurricanes are recruiting Bronson as a standup edge rusher who can also see some time with his hand on the ground blitzing the passer.

“They’re recruiting me as a standup outside linebacker D-end kind of but I’ll still gonna play with my hand on the ground.”

Bronson is in constant contact with the Miami coaches and has built a bond with the defensive line coach.

“I mostly speak with coach (Jethro) Franklin, the D-line coach. He is a good coach, he is honest with me, very straight forward with me. He tells ‘we really need you’ and that ‘there is a chance you can play early’.”

The other school competing with Miami is Rutgers. The Knights have drawn interest in Bronson and he likes the staff up in New Jersey.

“It’s a place where they keep it honest with me and they tell me I can be the man up there. I like their defense too, they do a lot of stunts and thats what I do with my quickness.”

Bronson currently has no timetable for a decision but will be looking for a place with a “family feel”

“I want them to provide me with a great tutor who can help me in the classroom and somewhere where I feel a family atmosphere and a football atmosphere.”

UMike

DMoney @ CIS..

Over the past two years, I’ve been lucky enough to see Dade and Broward’s best compete on the gridiron, at camps and at 7-on-7s. The list below is my personal opinion, and I don’t speak for Peter, Tito, Cam or Nash. All forty times are verified by SPARQ.

25. Trayone “Chocolate” Gray, ATH, Carol City (6’2, 194, 4.66)- Versatile athlete with a college-ready body. Like former Chief Allen Hurns, the Miami commitment lines up all over the field and takes snaps at quarterback. Gray can play offense but projects as a big safety at the next level.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kySAuuCa4U

24. A’lique Terry, C, Hialeah (6’1, 294)- Coach’s son with stout body and very good athleticism. OL MVP of Al Golden camp and the only lineman who could block Travonte Valentine. Also excelled against top competition at Miami NFTC.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcv7uKtNFEc

23. Sam Bruce, WR, University, (5’8, 165)- Despite his youth and lack of height, the 2016 star is one of the most confident players in the state. Bruce exploded during the 7-on-7 circuit as a member of the South Florida Express and already holds a Miami offer. He is the nephew of former Dillard star Isaac Bruce.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrrdIUQSM-4

22. Nigel Bethel II, CB, Booker T, (5’9, 170, 4.61)- One of the fastest 200M sprinters in the country with a personal best of 21.13. Bethel reminds me of Kelly Jennings in the way he combines straight-line speed with smooth movement skills. Breakout performance in the state title game to go along with four interceptions and 13 pass breakups during the season.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1505838/highlights/30884373

21. Brandon Powell, ATH, Deerfield Beach (5’9, 170, 4.49)- The Tennessee commit is one of the most well-rounded athletes in Florida. Not only is Powell an accomplished runner (1,180 yards, 13 TDs) and receiver (4 TDs), but he also carries a sterling 4.1 GPA. Exceptionally quick player who earned an offer at the Al Golden Camp by competing as a running back, receiver and defensive back.

Good luck fielding a team with five players.

This is NOT really my fight but i will cautiously dip my foot into the water:

1. NO. What I heard people saying (and agree with) is that IF a recruit says X school is there "dream school", and this applies to ANY school, and then that school offers then the recruit SHOULD commit. Not every recruit should commit right now to "MY school" whatever school that is. That would be fantasyland. There is a HUGE difference.

2. Give me five Duke Johnsons and I'm good. I wouldn't trade ONE Duke for 100 Denvers.

3. #TownCane is a 2015 recruit who has never said he was announcing or that UM was his "dream school". He could wind up at Bama, UCLA, Stanford or UM.

4. TOTALLY AGREE.

5. Careful about defining "real world". Those definitions are often based on someone's perception of reality and their opinion, not facts ot undeiniable truth. Just because someone does not see things your way does not mean they do not live in the "real world".

Ohio_Cane

Keep in mind, those ranking are reflecting the fact that we have 20 commits right now. That's helping a lot. Most teams have less at this point.

Actually, we have more than everyone except 2. Texas and NC State.

National Recruiting Coordinator/WR coach Brennan Carroll is a star in the recruiting scene. Carroll tweets out what has become known as "the Bat Signal" , a signal which tells Hurricane fans another player has chosen to "take his talents to South Beach".

Let's look at the recruits Carroll welcomed in the past month:

The first commit in this month came at the June 8th Al Golden Football camp, when Albany (GA) LB Juwon Young (6'2", 228lbs) committed to the Canes after a strong showing at camp. Throughout the day, the coaches were very impressed with his performance, which led to an offer and commitment. Young is a thickly build player who brings added size to a position that is rife with more lithe, athletic players. You can read our article about his commitment here, and you can read his interview with Jerry Steinberg here.
Just one day after Young's commitment at the June 9th Al Golden Football Camp, Santaluces WR Darrell Langham (6'5", 190lbs) earned an offer from the coaches, and committed on the spot. Langham is a tall prospect with good speed (rumored to run in the low 4.5s). He is the first receiver commit in this class which figures to have 3-4 players come in at this position. Langham isn't a message board favorite, but he is a very talented player who will open eyes with his play this year. This is a top notch recruit that fits Miami's scheme perfectly. Read our commitment post here.

Interesting post from CIS...

current commits that will not sign their LOI

IMO:

Alin Edouard
Demetrius Jackson
Juwon Young
Dennis Turner
Chris Herndon

I'm also 'iffy' on Darrion Owens (Jacksonvill area) and Jenkins.

Early commits don't mean nothing. All it means is that a kid is feeling your program at 'that point in time'. All of these guys will take official visits and will start second guessing themselves. I guarandamntee it.

UMike

I definitely feel him about the Jacksonville kids

Ohio_Cane

Ohio..you are right about the overall number of recruits helping boost our ranking, but its still a good sign to have this many this early.

It's not good, it's GREAT. Was just giving some perspective. Wasn't downplaying what the staff has done to this point, because we're WAY ahead of where we were this time last year.

I mean it's JULY and we have 20 commits. Lol

UMike

That also gives us more time to work on fewer targets...and in this case we only have big name guys left for the most part..that is good.

How in the world is Jeff Driskel allowed to still play college sports after signing a professional contract with the Red Sox? The NCAA has the worst rules lol

UMike

NCAA rules allow athletes to sign professional contracts in baseball but still remain eligible in football as long as they do not sign endorsement deals.

But if you get a free steak dinner watch out!!

UMike, I think it's that way in golf to. Maybe somebody can explain it, but I think it's dumb as hell!
