Sounds like a plan to me.

Congrats to all the grads. Going back to JJ, THE U players always had very good grad rate. Much better than schools that "supposedly" had more acceptable players. Most of our beloved "bad boys" got their degrees while St Bobby's grups had horrible grad rates. We love our bad boy image so much that even we ignore it. If I am not mistaken, Mr. six-guns, ncaa Miami rules Thrill Hill left with a Masters. I might be wrong but I think that is true.

SOUP, I will meet you at one of those four play games in Miami.. I'm not much of a baseball fan in general, but I'd love to go out to a game. I heard it is a really nice atmosphere at the park.

I've been to games at the BUC but have not been to AROD park.

CSM...U gotta go with us! We meet at The Titanic Brewery for food and beverages at least one hour before the game and then walk over to AROD Park which is literrally across the street. U can park for free after 4 PM across the street under the metrorail in the UM Parking lot.

The 2/19/14 game vs FAU is at 6 PM on a Wednesday so that game will be less crowded and we can by GA tix and sit anywhere. The 2/21/14 game vs Florida is on a Friday ay 7 PM and will be sold out so that makes it a little more tricky.

Let me know which one U want to do and how many tix U need and I will set it up.

Poster on CIS on Defensive recruiting:

Recruiting Outlook Defense: 12/20

Defensive End

Current situation: The Hurricanes have commits from two true defensive ends in Chad Thomas and Trent Harris and commits from versatile prospects in Anthony Moten and Demetrius Jackson who could line up at defensive end among other positions. The Hurricanes would ideally like to add a couple of defensive end prospects to this class moving forward.
Top targets: Grant Harris is a player Miami has been showing interest to throughout the process. He is scheduled to take his official visit to UM on January 24th. Mississippi State is the team to beat at the moment with Nebraska also a threat.
On the radar: California prospect Olajuwon Tucker is committed to USC. He will take an official visit to Miami on January 24th. Tucker is slated to visit USC the week before. Louisiana prospect Davon Godchaeux is looking to visit Miami on January 24th. He is visiting LSU the next weekend. LSU is the biggest threat for Godchaeux.
Miami chances: Harris (Fair), Tucker (Poor), Godchaeux (Poor)
2015 names to know: Tampa Freedom defensive end Scott Patchan is starting to gain some big time offers. Miami was one of the first schools to offer and the Hurricanes have family ties. CeCe Jefferson will be one of the biggest recruits in the state next year due to his ability to rush the passer. Miami has offered, but Florida has the early lead right now.

Defensive Tackle

Current situation: Miami has commitments from highly rated Travonte Valentine, JUCO prospect Michael Wyche, and Courtel Jenkins. Anthony Moten is a defensive tackle that has very good pass rushing ability. All three of Valentine, Wyche, and Jenkins are massive and will bring much needed size to the group at Miami. Valentine is one of the top talents in the country at defensive tackle while Wyche and Jenkins will provide help against the run. The UM staff will work hard to keep Valentine in the class with LSU lurking. Miami would like to add one more defensive tackle to the class if possible.
Top target: Miami offered American Heritage defensive tackle Edgar Cerenord earlier this week. Cerenord had a strong showing during his senior season and will likely take a visit to UM in January. He could very well be Miami’s next commitment. JUCO DT Calvin Heurtelou took an official visit to Miami in the summer. Heurtelou will make a decision by the end of the month between Miami, Missouri, Tennessee, and Rutgers.
On the radar: JUCO target Lance McDowdell is interested in visiting Miami. At the moment, UCF is the team to beat. McDowdell is not an early enrollee, so Miami may pick up interest in January.
Miami chances: Cerenord (Excellent), Heurtelou (Fair), McDowdell (Fair).
2015 names to know: Miami has yet to offer any defensive tackles in Florida, but they have sent out some offers to national level prospects like California prospect Rasheem Green and Virginia prospect Tim Settle.

Linebacker

Current situation: Miami has commitments from Juwon Young, Darrion Owens, Mike Smith, Demetrius Jackson, and Terry McCray. Owens and McCray are rangy linebackers while Smith and Jackson excel at attacking the quarterback. Young is a prototypical stout middle linebacker. Miami has a good mix of players committed at linebacker and the staff will have to work hard to keep this group together. Jackson decommitted for four hours before he recommitted to the Hurricanes. Smith is receiving heavy interest from Arkansas. McCray is flirting with LSU. Young and Owens are set to enroll early. UM may try to add one more player to add to the group.
Top targets: Louisiana linebacker Kenny Young is a prospect Miami has been targeting for a long time. He is cousins with former UM wide receiver LaRon Byrd. Young is looking to take his official visit to Miami on January 20th. The three primary contenders at this point are believed to be LSU, Texas A&M and Florida State. Former UM signee Antonio Kinnard had a successful season at Arizona Western Junior College and is on Miami’s radar again. He has Miami in his top four along with USC, Oregon State, and Arizona. There is a good chance Kinnard visits Miami in January.
On the radar: Virginia prospect Raymon Minor has Miami in his top five and plans to take a visit to Coral Gables on January 17th. Virginia Tech is believed to be a heavy favorite for Minor. Nebraska is also a school making a push. California prospect Dwight Williams may be a player that could be interested in taking a visit, but he is a long shot.
Miami chances: Young (Fair), Kinnard (Good), Minor (Poor), Williams (Poor).
2015 names to know: Miami already has a commitment at linebacker from Royal Palm Beach’s Charles Perry. Gulliver Prep’s Dominic Sheppard received an offer at a junior day last year. Miami should be in good shape with Sheppard if they continue to show him heavy interest.

Cornerback

Current situation: The Hurricanes have commitments from Ryan Mayes and Nigel Bethel. Mayes is a long corner while Bethel has tremendous speed that will line up at nickel. Mayes is looking to enroll early in this class while Bethel is flirting with Georgia. The Hurricanes parted ways with commit Dennis Turner over the weekend. Miami would like to add one more elite cornerback prospect to this class.
Top target: Miami is working hard to flip J.C. Jackson from his commitment to the Gators. Miami has put a full court press on Jackson over the last month. Jackson took his official visit to Miami this past weekend and the Hurricanes continued their positive momentum. Jackson maintains he is still committed to Florida, but the Hurricanes are definitely in a strong position to flip him. Jackson also has interest in Florida State.
On the radar: Miami has shown some interest to Alabama prospect Patrick Porter and he plans to take a visit to UM on January 31st. Washington State is the team to beat for Porter. Tallahassee Lincoln cornerback Kendall Randolph has always wanted to visit the UM campus and meet with the UM coaching staff face to face. If the Hurricanes decide to bring him in, they would be in good shape. Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Louisville are schools to watch for Randolph. The question with both Randolph and Porter.
Miami chances: Jackson (Good), Randolph (Fair), Porter (Fair).
2015 names to know: Miramar’s Tyrek Cole will be the next big time recruit out of that program. At this point in his recruitment, Cole seems to be favoring Miami and Florida. New Jersey prospect Minkah Fitzpatrick is a player that will be one of the top cornerback prospects in the country. Fitzpatrick has Miami in his top three along with Ohio State and South Carolina.

Safety

Current situation: Miami’s situation at safety has changed dramatically over the last week. Miami added two safety prospects to the class in four star New Jersey prospect Kiy Hester and flipped three star Marques Gayot from his Louisville pledge. The Hurricanes could play athlete Trayone Gray at safety or receiver. It is highly unlikely Gray will qualify for Miami. The Hurricanes may try to add one more safety to the class.
Top targets: None.
On the radar: Miami offered Georgia prospect Tre Neal in October and has been showing consistent interest ever since. Neal has Miami in his top three along with UCF and Vanderbilt. At this point UCF is the team to beat for Neal. Washington D.C. area safety DaeJuan Funderburk was offered by Miami early in the process. He committed to Temple in September. The Hurricanes have shown interest and he has UM in his top three. Funderburk is slated to visit UM on January 17th. West Virginia is the team to beat. California safety Glen Ihenacho plans to visit Miami in January.
Miami chances: Neal (Fair), Funderburk (Fair), Ihenacho (Poor).
2015 names to know: In South Florida, Miami has already offered Jaquan Johnson and Kendrell McFadden and are the early leaders to land both. Rico McGraw is one of the top safety prospects in the country. He attends the same school that produced current UM cornerback Corn Elder.

The 19th is good Soup. I'll probably go by myself and just leave work slightly early. I'm probably going to get bashed but I've never actually stopped in and had a brew at the Titanic. I've always wanted to, and used to pass it everyday when I took the metro to work. That would be fun as well, I've read its a good time!

Keep me posted. I think you still have my email.

BigWindyCane1

Trayon Gray may not qualify? I hope so. I saw Gray play a couple of times this season, and Gray is really good. Gray is one of the best elite prospects in South Florida and is underrated. When I saw him play, I realized that Golden and his staff have a good eye for talent. It will be a loss if he cannot qualify.

Ohio_Cane

Gray has awful grades compared to what's needed to get into UM, apparently.

U can basically consider him not committed to us at this point.

This is part of the attrition I brought up when I said we'd add 3-5 more guys. There's always a couple.

Congrats 2 Nick Linder, he just received his Under Armor invite.

SOUP

THE SCHNELLENBOWL:

The 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl pits two programs built by legendary college football coach Howard Schnellenberger. Coach Schnellenberger is credited with laying the foundation for one of the greatest dynasties in college football history, the University of Miami Hurricanes. Schnellenberger coached the Hurricanes for five seasons (1979-83), posting a 41-16 record and his tenure culminated with the 1983 National Championship – the first of five Miami national titles. Two years later, Schnellenberger took over at Louisville, where he’d spend 10 seasons with the Cardinals (1985-94). He finished 54-56-2 with two bowl wins.

4-Real

This class is definitely underrated. Saw a few weeks back that Trayon Gray's coaches said it was 75% chance he qualifies. But that was a FEW weeks ago.

Coaches usually say that about every recruit, but I'm hoping they're right.

I usually believe the saying "where there's smoke, there's fire", and there's lots of smoke with his grades from everyone BUT his coach.

SOUP

BOWLING FOR A THIRD #CANES GENERATION:

When junior DE Anthony Chickillo steps onto the Florida Citrus Bowl field for the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl, he will become the third Chickillo to play in a Hurricanes bowl game. His grandfather, Nick, played in the 1951 Orange Bowl and 1952 Gator Bowl. His dad, Tony, played in the 1981 Peach Bowl.

Ohio_Cane

4-real, it's only underrated by our fans. It's a consensus top 5 class right now, and we've got more kids to add.

SOUP

THE YEAR OF HURNS:

Senior WR Allen Hurns – a second-team All-ACC selection by both ACSMA and the league’s head coach – is quietly having one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history. Hurns needs 19 yards to break Leonard Hankerson’s single-season record for receiving yards. He is only the fourth player in Miami history to post 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.

SOUP

UM QB Stephen Morris, By The Numbers:

* Senior Stephen Morris is the only QB in FBS with a pass of 50+ yards in nine difference games this season.

* Morris also leads the FBS with 3 passes of 80+ yards this season.

Sounds like Morris had a "GREAT" season then right? How would U rate Morris' season"

1. Exceeded Expectations
2. Met Expectations
3. Below Expectations

Or, if U prefer:

1. GREAT!
2. Very Good
3. Good
4. Average
5. Below average

CaneSawMassacre

Below expectations based on the pre-season hype, but injuries might have played a huge factor.

Still too erratic with touch passes. Threw too many bone-headed INT's but also helped us win 1-2 games with his arm.

I expected more progress and leadership, but he still had a solid but not great year.

CaneSawMassacre

And Soup weren't those 3 pass plays of 80 plus yards basically all screen plays that got housed?

I could be wrong.

UMike

I have said it 100 times..Gray is an ELITE talent. I just hope we can keep him through prep school or something. If not in 2-3 years he will be one of those kids making plays elsewhere while Cane fans (those that dont know) ask "how could Miami let him get away" lol

Hope the kid gets in though, but we'll be alright if He doesn't.

UMike

CR..all the REAL experts in South Florida say Gray is elite, more so that Berrios, Hester etc. Even Blu himself said Gray will be an elite NFL RB. I know Miami cant do anything about his grades, but this a kid you want to try and keep if possible lol

Agree with this. I would rate him between Good/Average. The way he finished the previous year, expectations were set high for him, probably too high (*Heisman candidate*cough*). The ankle injury really set him back. He already had poor lower extremity movement (for a qb) and the ankle only made it worse.

I give Morris an incomplete rather than a grade.

He wasn't himself for the middle part of the season because of the injury, but the last couple he started looking more like the player we expected him to be.

It's really, really hard for me to watch LeSean McCoy tearing up the NFL and remember that he went the prep route instead of qualifying at Miami. I think he would have been a step up from Graig Cooper. (Ya like that little bit of understatement there at the end?)

UMike

LeSean McCoy, Patrick Peterson, Ali Highsmith, Teddy Bridgewater, Louis Nix, A-Rid, Chipper Jones... TONS of players once committed to Miami that never made it that are/were stars lol

When we signed Cooper it was because the head coach at the time siad: "Cooper is better then McCoy. He beat him out at Hargraves."

SOUP

I have Morris at "Below Expectations" and an "Average" rating.

UMike

Cooper was a 5-Star recruit... one of many we missed on... some kids just dont translate to college ball well lol

SOUP

There were blades of grass that could tackle Cooper. Never seen a guy down so easy untouched except by the "turf monster"?

CaneSawMassacre

SOUP - I couldn't believe how many times he would get his thigh pad slapped and he would fall to the ground. Or he had one man to beat in space and couldn't make a guy miss.

Go Canes

He has to go down as below expectations then. But no grade is final til you take your last test!

And I am definitely not a 12%er.

I love the direction of the program and believe in what our coaches are doing, but I don't expect an undefeated season or national title in the forseeable future.

I believe we are on our way to building a perennial winner with a chance to do something special every year.

UMike

Cooper would always dance when he had holes right in front of him...never seen a guy who missed so many big runs because he started dancing lol

I have Morris at Met Expectations and Average rating.

longtimecanefan

I'd say SM had an average year, but part of that was based on expectations were high for given his years of starting at QB.

Good would be the top, but as is Hurns, Duke and Coley made enough plays to help us win.

Can't think of many plays/games where he was the difference maker (on the plus side), so great or very good is def out....

Those passes on the last drive vs UNC were on point!

LB

Morris has little fault for the aspect of getting injured. But rolling out of a sound pocket and locking onto a primary receiver (see State of the U's dissection) was.

- Completion percentage (58.2 to 58.7) TD's (21) were consistent. But the INT's were up (7 to 12).

ACC Stats:

The Good:
- 3rd best in passing yards and TDs.

The Bad:
- 10th best in completion percentage.
- 3rd in INT's.

Given he was the 2nd least sacked starting QB in the conference (11), I'll have to go with "#3: Below Expectations" but "#3 Good."

RCCF

Morris gets a D-...He stunk up the joint and Im sorry yes I am a Die Hard 12%er but truth is truth with all the hype he came in the season with and the Mannings backing him like he was kin just disgraced everyone who believed in him...and to blame a season on his piddly ankle is lowly.. I don't accept the only reason he isn't getting an F is because of he did play Some Games well..

RCCF12%

Ohio_Cane

Those of U giving Morris a bad grade this year, what QB would U compare him to from this season on another team?

LB

Did You Know:

Waters and Hurns were both more productive in their first year as Carroll for their coach:

Waters went from 10 catches, 227 yards and 2 TDs...
...to 28 catches, 406 yards, and 5 TDs.

Hurns went from 28 catches, 314 yards and 4 TDs...
...to 60 catches, 1138 yards, and 6 TDs.

Dorsett was injured, Lewis recovered from surgery and was mostly used for run blocking, Coley was a freshman.

But it does look promising, as these are significant jumps.

longtimecanefan

when the 12%'s give up on ya then you know you're in trouble LOL!!

SM was better than Freeman, Marve, Wright, and maybe Jacory. Made same great throws over the years, but didn't have the wheels or spark to be a game changer like Johnny Football..

Then again, our O was not the issue this season. We'd have won 10 or 11 if we had a D that keep the other team out of the end zone.....

Go Canes

Ohio the question itself is too misleading.

He didnt have the season I expected but that doesn't mean he didn't have a good season.
