Miami offers Rivals100 DT Darrion Daniels

Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne Rivals100 defensive tackle Darrion Daniels continues to see the offers mount, with three more big time offers being placed on the table in the last week.

"LSU offered I think it was Saturday and Monday and Tuesday it was Miami and then Wisconsin," Daniels said.

"I knew LSU had some type of interest in me. I just didn't know they were offering. When they offered I knew that was a huge step," Daniels said. "They're always a good team and they're a fast team. They're very athletic and I think they're a good fit."

The second offer, Daniels had a feeling might be coming soon.

"Me and coach Franklin hit it off pretty well on our first phone call. I really want to go out there and meet him and see the campus," Daniels said. "I think the team has potential to be better. I've seen some of the recruits they have coming in and I think they should be pretty good."

Daniels admits he has not had much of a chance to research Wisconsin at this point.

Since the Rivals Camp Series in Dallas, Daniels has visited Oklahoma State and returned to Baylor. He does not have any visits scheduled at this moment, but he does have a few he would like to take.

"I really want to go check out Miami," Daniels said. "I really want to go checkout Arizona State. And I also want to check out Texas Tech."

The standout defensive tackle is also not ready to name any leaders, but he does list Miami, Texas, Texas Tech, Iowa, Oklahoma State, and Arizona State as the schools showing strong interest. He also has a few coaches he feels he has established a strong bond.

"Yes sir, I like coach Strong from UT," Daniels said. "I like coach Montgomery from OU. Coach Duffie from OSU. Me and coach Shipp we're pretty cool. Coach Franklin from Miami. Coach Woods from Iowa."

When it comes to narrowing his list, he wants to take a few more visits before he starts to make those kinds of decisions, but he does have an idea about when he would like to narrow his list and when he would like to make his decision.

"I think I want to announce my top five about the fourth or fifth game of the season, and decide around early December around my birthday," Daniels said.

Terrance Sullivan

Thanks peeps. All safe and sound here but it was rough for others in North of me especially in Birmingham area and Huntsville area and going up to your area UMike in Tennessee. ESPN's Miami Spring Wrap
Miami spring wrap
By Andrea Adelson | ESPN.com

Three things we learned in the spring about the Miami Hurricanes:

1. Dallas Crawford will help on D. Miami surprised many when it decided to move Crawford from running back to safety. But the switch should end up benefiting both the Canes' D and Crawford in the long-term. Initially recruited to play safety, Crawford made himself at home in the defensive backfield and impressed coaches. He was named most improved player on defense for the spring.

2. Bulked-up Duke Johnson. While Johnson was held out of contact drills as he rehabbed a broken ankle, he did participate on a limited basis this spring. But bigger than that was the way he transformed his body. Johnson put on 10 pounds and is now up to 205. The hope is that more weight translates into better durability. Miami will need to rely on him more than ever in 2014.

3. Depth at linebacker. Coach Al Golden said one of the biggest accomplishments his team made this spring was building depth at linebacker. Miami hopes to count on all-ACC performer Denzel Perryman (now in the middle), along with Alex Figueroa, Raphael Kirby, Thurston Armbrister, Jermaine Grace, JaWand Blue and early enrollee freshmen Juwon Young and Darrion Owens.

Three questions for the fall:

1. Who will cut it at QB? Miami caught a tough break when projected starting quarterback Ryan Williams tore his ACL during a scrimmage and underwent surgery. Though there is some hope Williams could return before the season ends, Miami has to prepare Kevin Olsen and Gray Crow for the starting job. Olsen, the favorite to win the starting job, did not impress in the spring game. Neither did Crow.

2. Improvement on D? Coaches insisted this spring that they saw a better, more cohesive defensive unit, one in which leaders emerged in Perryman and Tracy Howard, among others. Will the progress coaches saw in the spring translate into more consistent performances during the season? Chief on the list of improvements is a better four-man rush and improving on third downs.

3. Pass rush. Speaking of pass rush, Miami was pleased with what it saw out of hybrid rush ends Al-Quadin Muhammad and Tyriq McCord this spring. Their emergence will be a huge key toward improving the Hurricanes’ pass rush. Ufomba Kamalu and Jelani Hamilton also started playing better as the spring went on, so Miami feels better about its depth across the line headed into the fall.

One way-too-early prediction:

Miami will take a step back this year. The Hurricanes go into the season with question marks at quarterback and continued questions on defense. Couple that with a difficult schedule -- featuring perhaps the most difficult crossover games in the ACC against Florida State, Louisville – and it will be tough for the Canes to match their nine-win total from last season.

It is always possible that UM could win less than 9 games this year. It is also possible that they win 10 games. With a new QB it may come down to how much the defense improves (they HAVE to right?) and special teams. Losing O'Donnell may hurt more than we know and only time will tell.

IF the Canes do lose three, four or more games then I have the feeling that it is going to get ugly up in here. I really don't want to see that. No, really I don't.

Crootin Stories Vol. 2

This current standout SEC defensive back was born and raised in Miami, went from a certified goon at the age of 12 and turned his life around to a big time high school DB. SEC teams were all over him and so was his coach to go SEC... specifically Alabama..(this coach has ties to Saban and has sent another high profile croot to him). He was leaning to Alabama for a while (probably because of coach) untill he visited this this other SEC school. This croot fell in love with this new SEC school. This coach when learned about this other official visit he started calling his phone non stop to persuade him to go to Alabama and not this other school so much that he had to turn his phone off. When he got home was bombarded by the coach about going to Alabama to the point where he felt uncomfortable. This went on untill signing day.

Miami thought they never really had a chance, although they were sleeping at the wheel because he was truly interested in Miami. Miami one day tried to go see this croot and was told he wasnt in school, but there he was sitting right in class, SEC force fields implanted directly in the heart of south florda...Crazy aint it? This story is straight from the horses mouth. Bleakvern Reproting.

Go Canes

THis will be one of the most interesting seasons in a long time.

We can really surprise and win games like Louisville and Nebraska, both of which are replacing long time starters like we are?

I wonder if we don't and lose four games, but the D takes a big step up while the offense struggles what the attitude of fans will be.

Will fire Coach D then be replaced by Coley can recruit but he has to go?

Think we will know early what direction we are headed in 14.

Terrance Sullivan

Thanks UpNorth my brother. Go Canes if we dont win the ACC Coastal, Win 10 or more games, and win our Bowl Game for this season that's what should be the goal do all 3 of those things because we have been drier than the Nevada Desert in those 3 crucial categories. I would like us to win the Nebraska game but that's the 9th most important game on our schedule with Cincy being 10th, ArkState being 11th, and FAMU being 12th. The ACC games are the most important period. 1.FSU,2. VT,3.Duke, 4. UNC, 5. GT, 6.Pitt, 7.UVA, 8. Louisville. It was some pretty bad damage on the north side of my city. Prayers for everyone in this SouthEast region.

j.w.

Agree, Go, It will be an interesting football season. It's been a while since I thought everything rested on the shoulders of one guy. Olsen grows up fast? We could be very good. The tough schedule no logner seems all that tough as we're still talking about ACC teams, our D can't possibly be as bad this year as it has been for 2 years running (I hope!).
Olsen struggles? 9 man fronts all year stop Duke Johnson, our offense stagnates, and the defense wears down. We don't have the punter who can change field position like last year (hoping whomever we get can field a snap, though :)), so we can't afford all the 3 and outs this year. I'm not predicting anything until we get a sense of what Olsen does over the summer.

"Did that really just happen? Butch Jones greets me by saying, “Pete, I’m Butch Jones. Really glad you’re here. I love your website, check it all the time. I love what you do and what you stand for.” It’s amazing how the smallest things go a long way. In addition, I sat with Jones in his office for 35-40 minutes, pardon the interruption by Dave Hart to introduce Jones to the Vols new head basketball coach Donnie Tyndall, and Jones proceeded to ask me 8-10 questions about my perspective from covering coaches and walking through facilities over the last six years. In doing so, he took two pages of notes. For me, it was an honor. But what got me really fired up was that just as any great leader, Jones was thirsty for information, anything to gain a competitive edge for Tennessee. Sleep easy, Knoxville. You’ve got a real leader now."

No, not lions, tigers or bears -- the deadliest creatures on earth are mosquitoes.

Bill Gates has been getting the message out on the minuscule serial killers during Mosquito Week, an online awareness campaign on the billionaire philanthropist's blog, the Gates Notes. Modeled after the hugely popular Shark Week, Gates thinks the deadly insects deserve their own seven days-worth of attention.

According to a post on his blog, mosquitoes kill about 750,000 people every year -- that's more than the next 14 deadliest animals (including humans) combined.

WOWWWWWWWWWW!! I'm shocked. Seriously.

UpNorthCane

great Job by Silver!!! he just won over all the players in the NBA with that decision. No place for Sterling in the league especially as an owner #Sterling=Scumbag!!!

Ohio_Cane

Silver won over way more than just the players. What a message sent. Good for him! By far the correct decision.

VA Cane

Very good well thought out decision. It is nice to see someone look at a situation, find out the facts and do what is right in a swift manner.

It was also good to hear LeBron, and other speak direct and to the point about the facts without looking foolish and cursing.

Snoop went on a rant, white this white that; he is no better than Sterling as he is doing the same thing grouping white people into one group. Stephen A. Smith also goes to extremes at times, comparing the situation to slavery. Slaves had it far worse than ANY of us will ever know. SAS also was asking what took so long? I think it was done quite well in a timely manner.

Bottom line there is no room for racism of any kind in our culture. We all have been influenced by it, and sometimes may think wrong things. However, as President Obama said an ignorant person will show their ignorance by talking that way. I go with Dr. King the content of the heart not the color of the skin. Thats what it is all about for all of us. He had it down pat.

Again, glad Sterling got the ban, now get him out of the league. Cuban was hesitant about such action; I am tired of his big mouth and fat ass too, get rid of his BS as well. This is a game people love and players we love watching. That is any sport. I am a football guy, but all the sports are good things for kids and adults. Why not just play and enjoy, leave the race, color, creed, religion and gender at home? Just Play!!

UpNorthCane

I agree ohio def won way more than just the nba players.

VA Cane

I am impressed by the Commissioner he showed great leadership. I also was impressed by how professional Lebron acted, he is one great man, he leads by example. I may be out of line, but I like him much more than Jordan and Magic. He is a modern thinking man. Jordan and Magic while fantastic players had tooo much ego and self love for me. LeBron is like a mighty oak. He stands tall and strong, never gets too bent out of shape.

VA Cane

I think he won over many average everyday people tired of the racist BS that goes on. That is wonderful. He is going to do a great job he really stepped up in a positive forceful way.

Strange, my posts are being eaten again. Oh well, good to check in on you friends, busy doesn't begin to describe what this Spring is here. Good to see the baseball team playing like we like, worried to death about Olsen but we'll see, and glad to see Sterling sent packing.

Go Canes

Congrats to the NBA for getting this thing right swiftly and strongly.

Hitting that loser where it hurts, not letting him sit court side being a total douche is what's going to hurt him the most.

But I'd be really surprised if at the end of the day they'll be able to force the guy to sell. He seems to revel in being involved in conflict so he will drag that out til he kicks the bucket.

Hopefully that won't happen but every indication is he's not remorseful and will basically give everyone the finger and be the pathetic loser he is until the bitter end.

Better talk to UMike about that. He IS the expert on that after all!

BEERicane

Can't force him to sell -- his speech regardless of the content is protected by the constitution and the Supreme Court would never risk such a dangerous precedent as forcing sale of private entity/property based upon distasteful free speech. They can (and did/are) request/recommend that he sell, and not being allowed to go to games or participate in business decisions may be enough to influence him to sell -- it would be for me. why would I want to own something from which I'm effectively banned (ie if I had a Bugatti but had my license revoked forever, I'd sell it as it wouldn't provide me with the pleasure it once did)? The NBA did the absolute correct thing here and acted to the maximum allows by their agreements. I'd sure sell the thing, I'd think as long as the Clippers superstars are still in place could probably still get good value for the team despite the pressure to leave.

trianglecane

I believe the NBA owners can vote out sterling. The nba would then control the team until sell. sounds fishy.. if i bought it...it's mine.. until I sell, but more research is needed.

You think they didn't know that they had to work tomorrow?...they had what we call BALLS and stood up for themselves"...Dignity over Dollas....tht is my Rant ... and CaneOn

I just came from a called meeting of my guys. I told them mandatory. I wanted to feel my guys out how they felt about this. Racism or destruction of it is my goal. I told my guys this is a big thing but it does not put the brakes on it.

We must do it; each of us. Black, white, mixed, Latino, oriental, gay, straight etc. It is wrong to hate another person in anyway. You do not have to like their opinion, but you have no right to hate them or hate them for their background. That is sin. I really want my guys to learn from this. We held hands and prayed for all people, all Gods children and we vowed we may get mad but never racist. It is very important to me.

I roomed with a black cat in college and he was awesome. He used to tell me I would never understand it completely as I was white and not profiled as such. I have never been pulled or searched or targeted for color, race, etc. I do understand its wrong, but never been in that seat. My roomie played for NE Pats was 6'8" 350. He also said this. No matter how bad I have had it, I have never been bull whipped, or owned in shackles and chains, or had my family torn apart; I only know so much and have never experienced nothing like that.

I thank The Almighty I have never had to experience it, and I feel very deeply for my friends who have. I feel most of all so bad for the people of all types who really experienced it to such a horrible degree. Any degree of it is bad, and if any of you have been through it, you have my caring and compassion as it is wrong. I learned something today from a group of teens, black and white. I will go to my grave fighting it, teaching my boys and my community how wrong it is. Just my thoughts my friends.

Can't force him to sell what he own regardless of NBA owner vote - not until he would agree to recognize said vote and sell on his own or (more likely) a Supreme Court decision (which he would win). If I were him, I'd sell. But he seems like an old school stubborn prick.

Just want to put my thoughts on this. We are all humans first, regardless of our race, color, creed, religion, gender etc. On here, we are family first and foremost.
