I would never touch Morris in the draft.....He can't see the field very good. If you've seen games in person, you would not believe all the open receivers he misses......Even his receivers/TE were pissed and got on to him about it. I was getting so frustrated watching the kid play!!!

UMike

The Cleveland Browns have a bell that is rung every time a new season ticket is sold, and given the way things are going since the team selected Johnny Manziel with the 22nd pick in Thursday's first round of the NFL draft, the bell might need to be replaced.

Team president Alec Scheiner told ESPN.com on Friday morning that, in the 12 hours after Manziel was selected, the team sold more than 1,500 new season tickets.

"We know right now that every one of our games is going to be sold out for next season," Scheiner said.

Let's Go Canes! Beat the Blue Devils! Also Let's Go Lady Canes! Beat Boston University!

86Cane

Jags and Jedd Fisch get to work with Blake Bortles and NOT Johnny Manziel? I REALLY like Bortles but Jags coulda sold tickets with Manziel and Bortles may not even play this year or have an impact on the team. I hope Fisch coaches him up and he plays well.

The top ten

UMike

Bortles will have a longer, more successful career than Manziel.

CaneRock

I'm surprised Bortles's name wasn't in Manny's article. Per Scout, He was a 2*, with offers from UCF,Colorado State,UK,Purdue, & Tulane.

Damn, did Jeremy Davis ever get into school? LMAO! He's on our 2010 commitment list, and He's on UCF's 2011, AND! 2012 commitment lists.

UMike

That 2014 class is going to be a problem!! But the staff better keep stacking in 2015... If Kaaya pans out, or Olsen there will be so many dam weapons around them.

CaneRock

Yeah, that 2014 class looks BEAST! But I was hoping we would've finished a lil' better, especially at CB. But hey, can't complain, we got the 2 best players outta Central,MNW, and BTW...and several studs outta NJ.

CaneRock

But as a coaching staff, and a team, we have to show these 2015 kids that "the process" WORKS...and Al has to show em' that He wants to BE HERE! None of this "I was never a candidate", and "it's like going home" CRAP! Say what ya'll want, but I guarantee you that our competitors are using that against us.

Ohio_Cane

Kiy Hester is gonna be the problem. Kid is gonna light other teams up. Hard hitter. Love how he plays

CaneRock

I like Hester, but it's gonna be hard for Him NOT to grow into a LB, or a LB/$$ hybrid. Especially if Carter locks down the $$ spot for the next 2-3 years.

Ohio_Cane

I don't care if he grows into a DE, his attitude that makes it look like he's hitting to hurt makes me smile. Lol

NO DOUBT!

CaneRock

But outta all the 2014 skills guys on O & D, Hester is about the only one, that TRULY excels at both sides of the ball. Judging by those one hand circus catches that He makes, the kid has some good hands. I wouldn't be surprised if we give em' a look on O.

CaneRock

Gayot's not bad either, He also seems to have some good hands.

CaneRock

And it might be a good thing that Yearby didn't play in the Spring, because He would've blown somebody's ACL,BCL,CCL,DCL,ECL,FCL,etc.,with those video game moves LMAO!

Now I SEE! why Cook didn't come here LMAO!

herbieibis

Yeah but Jon Beason has been a way better pro than college player and there in lies our problem for the past several years, not enough athleticism and not enough consistency and they play better in the pros than here.

Terrance Sullivan

Rock we also got our fair share of studs outta FLL and WPB. This year should be the year that we end 3 droughts, Division Title, 10 wins, and bowl win. Let's say we go 11-3 with a Orange Bowl or Chick Fil A Peach Bowl win, ACC Coastal Champs this year then I would be happy. and let this year set up next years run for winning the ACC Coastal, ACC Championship, College Football Playoffs(Hopefully) winning our 6th National Title.

86Cane

Now I SEE! why Cook didn't come here LMAO!

Posted by: CaneRock | May 09, 2014 at 02:48 PM

Since 2 years ago UM coaches always liked Yearby over Cook. I thought that physically Cook looked like a better athlete just going by the eye test but they said Cook's vision and moves were FAR superior to Cook who had good straight-line speed but not the other qualities that the best RBs have: vision, balance, instincts and moves to make U miss.

They though Cook might be a better safety.

Montreal-Cane

Thanks SOUP for the Baseball notes.
I believe we need to win at least 5 of the last 6 games plus an excellent ACC tournament to host a super regional.

Canes at Duke in about 2 hours.

VA Cane

One think I notice about a lot of players coming here. They are big names in HS playing against average HS talent. It is all different when you get to this level. You don't play the easy teams anymore. Every week is a Big Push. It is a long way from BTW to major college football, and even longer to the NFL. We have had a lot of players come here since 2003, and we are still putting guys in the NFL. Good role players but not the great players.

I think the biggest reason for the slide to mediocrity is the lack of competition between players to get on the field. It used to be a fight, a war, a grudge to start for the U. Now you walk out because some coordinator has no real competition for the slot, put on that U hat and expect your opponent to fall down shivering with fear. Not so now, there is no fear. You cannot coach competition, you can enhance it by teaching fundamentals and improving skills, but a kid has to want to eat dirt rather than lose...per Mr. Shockey.

I hope we get that grudge attitude back. I want to be the best screw the next DT, LB, QB, OT etc....I want him to sit the bench. I want to be the guy. I look for more competition, as I am tired of being a Top 35-50 team guys.

Montreal-Cane

Why does it take so long to get an SAT score
We need Trayone Gray in this class.
Any news?

Terrance Sullivan

Well said VA

Montreal-Cane

So Bortles and Morris were 2*...Hum....I believe this one is on Randy...With Bortles with the Jags, Fisch will probably save his job.

Terrance Sullivan

Actually Morris was a 3 star.

Lurker

An excellent ACC tournament performance virtually assures a super regional irregardless of our record the last six games. The final grade is in on our regular season record and it's good enough, unless we slump and lose the last six.

VA Cane

I hope that the 2 qbs come in and really heat up the competition. From what I have seen, they are pretty good. I want a 3 way knock down drag out hate you fight.... in spirit. I want to see it really tight and hope the decision is the toughest any of our staff has ever had to make. Thats great for a program.

I have 2 first year seniors coming, and my backup from last year. Back up knows the system, while the other 2 are superior athletes. I have no clue as to who will drive the bus for us, but I think it will be spirited and competitive. Guys who want to play is a great thing. JMO

VA Cane

Not sure what becomes of Morris. He's a lot like Jacory good but average college tough to see him as a pro. Never know. I am not knocked out by any of the QBs. I think they are all good QBs, but none really stands out. Heck, Tom Brady did not either, or John Unitas, or Bart Starr but they all proved people wrong. Being unreal like an Elway or Peyton is not always the sign. Montana, Bradshaw were on very good teams, but yet they still led. Like KD a strong leader. JMO

I try not to have pet peeves but one person I want to see reprimanded and fired is Mike Goltick from Mike and Mike.

Greeny is no athlete, but he keeps the show moving, and he has manners and class.

Fat Boy Goltick on the other hand is a complete jerk. He looks rumpled and dirty every day. He dresses as if he stopped along the way and climbed into a dumpster to get clothes. He constantly refers to his kids like they are super athletes. One got cut, and the other one is using his 5th year of eligibility at Cincinnati to play out a nothing career. his daughter swims for ND. OK Goltick you made your points.

He also toots his wifes horn because she is on the Heads Up board going around talking about technique. Really? Yes she should be on a board for good causes, but has she tackled a lot of people? Not sure doubt it.

The man is overbearing as he stammers, stutters, slobbers, name drops greats like Reggie White and Jerome. About a month ago he crammed 21 pancakes in his big mouth during the course of the show. Yes, I guess they fit in that fat mouth and gut along with his foot that stays in there.

However, I do not like how he wants to bring up subjects that are not associated with sports. 2 years ago, he went on and on about how he had a ND thong he was going to wear when ND beat Bama. Hmmmm, never happened. He just yammered on and on how he looked sexy etc. A fat ass slob with a big mouth. After a while, like 1 segment we get your point. He talked about it for 2 weeks. Last week he went on and on about people complaining about a couple who met on an airplane, and ended up in the bathroom having sex. He kept slobbering and ranting, pervert that he is. He said what would you rather complain about a kid crying and yelling or people having loud sex in the bathroom. The dumbass says he speaks up to people who get on their kids on planes. Needs to mind his biz. Today he's talking about the NBA final trip he and Greeny are hosting. He said I hope its in Miami, as my agenda includes a nude beach. On and on.

The guy is a nobody, ragu headed, smelly, dirty, fat ass pervert from Cleveland. I think he needs to shut his fat mouth, get some class, learn some manners and conduct himself properly. My wife hates the guy, as do I. He makes the show worse and worse with his stupid perverted ideas. He thinks its funny, but I do not.

They need to fire his dumb ass, and start the Mike and Mark Show with Schlereth. Schlereth knows so much more than Bozo the Tick. Thats what he looks like, a big, fat, blood filled tick sucking the life out of a dog. The guy needs to go!!!!

SOUP...I actually thought He looked like a 5* on defense, and a 4* on offense. And
if last night's 1st round is the new trend - no RBs taken - then Him switching to DB wouldn't be a bad move. But I don't see it though, I still think He's a talented RB nonetheless.

For those keeping track, the U still maintains a one game lead over UVa in their division, with UVa winning today by a run over GTech. UVa had two non-conference games during the week, losing one to Old Dominion. It's always amazing how hard a time good teams have with lesser teams with midweek games using lower pitchers, etc. from the staff while resting the staff.

Also, the top 3 ACC schools on the diamond have the U playing Duke and UNC over the next two weekends, with UVa getting GTECH and WFU and FSU getting UNC and then Duke. The U can't afford to slip up to maintain advantages to get ncaa seeding, as they didn't win their series vs. FSU and UVa. The U likely needs to have better conference records and a solid conference tnmt showing to even things out, although all 3 could potentially host superregionals if the cards fall into place just so.

"The funny thing was right before he got over the goalline he held it up to celebrate and the ball slipped out of his hands. That was like a life lesson. He said he never did that again. But you could see the ability."

Somehow, the hometown Miami Hurricanes didn't. Davis said Shazier never got an offer from Randy Shannon's coaching staff before he was fired on the final day of the 2010 season. Davis said it was tough for him to stomach especially since UM had recruited McGee from him the year before.

Porter at the PBP:

Brandon Linder spends a lot of time fishing. A lot. Lately, he’s been posting the best grouper, hogfish, snapper and mahi he catches on his Instagram account.
Good news for him: There’s some pretty decent fishing off the coast of Jacksonville.

The Jaguars, with the No. 93 overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft, landed the former UM right guard just after 11 p.m. Friday night.

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said Linder was a late-round pick based on his athletic ability, but his body of work stood out.
“When [NFL] coaches got involved in the evaluation, he went from a fourth- or fifth-round grade to a third- or fourth-round grade. Why? He’s reliable, he’s tough and he’s durable. Coaches love this type of guard.

“Brandon Linder will go in, he’ll keep his mouth shut and he’ll play his tail off.”

Linder (6-5, 311), did just that at UM, where he made 42 starts in four seasons. He was a second-team All-ACC selection last year and UM’s offensive MVP award winner.

Porter from the PBP:

Over the last three decades, no school has produced more national titles or high NFL draft picks than the University of Miami.
The Hurricanes are 10th among all college football programs with 315 draft picks, with nearly two-thirds of those (193) coming in the last 30 years. A Cane has been drafted in the first round in 22 of those years, including a stretch of 14 straight drafts which ended in 2008.

There’s also this streak: UM hasn’t had a first-rounder since then. There is zero chance it will on Thursday, when the NFL Draft’s first round begins at 8 p.m. (ESPN, NFL Network).

Several Canes are expected to be picked as the draft continues this weekend, ensuring UM’s streak of 38 years with a selection will live on. However, they may have to wait a while.

Good Morning all. Just got of the phone with Morgan Moses. He was drafted by The Redskins in thew 3rd round. I am so proud of him and what has accomplished off and on the field. He is a good young man. Lots of character and personality. I told him he has to work harder now, my advice is compete and get mean. I am sure he will do well.

I try not to be emotional. You would think that after all the kids I have coached that have gone to college, and my 4th to the NFL, it would be no big deal.

On the contrary, I love them and am so proud as THEY are the success. I was just there to help if I could.

Congratulations Big Mo!!!!!

Lurker

Linder is a hard worker, a gamer and football player. Simple as that. Hard work does pay off.

CaneRock

This is the ugly part of the recruiting game...why kids need to take their time before they make a decision:

Trevill Holcy had every intention of playing his college football at the University of Miami.

On March 25, the day after the 6-foot-5, 210-pound St. Cloud wide receiver committed to play for the Hurricanes, he ran out to a local Nike outlet and purchased an armload of Hurricanes' gear to represent his new school.

To his surprise, however, that same day, he learned from his UM recruiter Hurlie Brown that the 'Canes weren't ready to take on another receiver in the class.

Understandably, Holcy was upset.

"I took all that stuff back ... returned it," Holcy said of his UM gear.

He had harsh words for the Hurricanes coaching staff at the time. And, unfortunately for Holcy, his own coach Bryan Smart was on vacation during spring break, so his strongest supporter was unavailable for advice.

He stewed for a couple of days, an outcast from a program to which he had given his full trust, but, Smart says, Holcy will be better suited to make a more educated decision in the future. For this particular situation, Miami had taken commitments from too many wide receivers. The 'Canes took four receivers in the 2014 class and already have two more penciled in for 2015.

"He'll have plenty of opportunities to go elsewhere," Smart said. "I really don't think [UM] thought he was going to commit so fast, and I guess other kids had committed ... I don't know. They don't always give you the full answer."

The one thing that is for sure is that over-offering happens all the time. FSU offered more than 160 players last recruiting cycle. They took 29. That doesn't make it right and it also doesn't make it any easier for Holcy to swallow.

"That's the hard part. It's a 17-year-old kid and they recruit him and recruit him and he finally agrees to come, then a couple days later they pull the carpet out from under him," Smart said, "But they have every right to do that. It's a bad situation, but he's a tough kid and he'll bounce back, He'll get in the right situation."

Smart is correct. Schools have every right to pull their scholarship offers. Players pull their commitments all the time. It's part of the recruiting game. Holcy said the Hurricanes told him they'd still be recruiting him as a tight end. He said, "No thanks."

"I have no interest in the University of Miami, now," said Holcy, the No. 23-ranked player in the 2015 Central Florida Super60. "The way I see it is that if they can't accept my commitment, then it's not an offer. So it's totally off the table for me."

He currently has four other offers from UCF, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Memphis.

"It's not that I'm glad they pulled the carpet out from under him, but I do want him to experience it all," Smart said. "You only get to experience this once. A lot of people will be interested in him."

No mention of Morris....I think that says a lot about reality. Morris was a decent college qb....arm is a part of the whole picture. I think both he and Logan T. are not in the mix due to their decision making. Both are questionable in that area.

Linder is a great kid. Big, strong, hard worker...willing to learn and be coached. Thats why he was picked. He will be a good solid pro or better. Very smart young man, proud of him!!!

86Cane

Rock...UM has offers out to several players in the Scout top 30 WR for 2015 with the highest one at #3 George Campbell (Tarpon Springs, FL), BUT the most likely to sign with UM may be these two:

#18 Da'vante Phillips from Central:

#30 Davante Peete from St. Thomas:

VA Cane

We need to find Dr Frankenstein who could build us a qb from scratch....size speed arm strength smart in school and on field mobile tough leader and on and on would that be great?

They just do not come along very often any more. I think a guy like Luck is the new prototype. I do not know if will win a title, but the young man is very impressive. Cut down on pick would be good but he is pretty good.

I am not so enamored with all the hype about Kap and RG III, They are good, but some of that luster, some of that shine has worn off. I think RG III might need to shut up and learn a little Kap too. Maybe they like reading their clippings...dont know. All qbs need to learn, and both are good qbs, but can get better. JMO
