Great tough win against LBSU last night. Go Canes!

Go Canes!

JCane

I still think the Canes and Collins miss David Thompson. He was good protection for making sure Collins saw more pitches. Still, Collins and the rest of the O needs to put something together, and fast.

Still, it ended up a W...

Lur-ker

Canes lead the NCAA in fielding percentage.

As far as hitting categories, they're in the 40's, more or less.

Except for HR's where they're in the 100's

ERA is in the 30's

As we've seen all season, a lot of close games, and they manufacture a lot of runs. Not a lot of big innings, with 2 or three run homers, just not a lot of beginnings at all, in terms of hitting.

It's been great defense, a little clutch hitting, manufacturing runs, and a lot of close games.

They are what they are.

Now if they get hot hitting for the next few games, something we really haven't had in a bunch of games this season. Then something special will happen this year. But they can't get too far behind, they just don't have the hating to catch up

Zach is in a slump for the last few games, but this hasn't been a big hitting team to begin with. So I would suggest since he's such trash, we bench him or kick him off the team. After all, he's just a catcher, they're not that important anyway. Especially to a team that plays a lot of close games. What trash

Lur-ker

"beginnings" should be big innings

Lur-ker

hating = hitting

Should proof before I hit send

Mr. Moneymaker

MLB draft coming up certainly doesn't help Collins.

Baseball has the most poorly scheduled one of all the sports.

JCane

LBSU comes through, scoring 2 in the first and 3 in the 3rd to take down FAU, 5-1, with the game ending just a bit ago.

Assuming the weather holds, we have a rematch from last night. I'm impressed with how LBSU has held together.

Lur-ker: This hasn't been a big-hitting team all season, but Collins and most of the team haven't been hitting at the most important time of the season. This isn't a team that has typically been outhit by the likes of Stetson, let alone at home. Clearly this team has won more this season with good fielding and pitching, but the hitting hasn't been this bad for this many games, for the most part. However, the way you phrased your comments made it clear you weren't interested in just normal discussion but wanting to fight with someone. Not my style....sorry. Have a good night, and hope the U takes down the Dirtbags!

Interestingly, 3 #1s have already gone down, that I've seen anyway, of the 16 seeds. One of them was UVa, from the ACC obviously, and the NCAA champion from last year. They destroyed William and Mary early in the regional, only to lose by a run in their last game. All that matters is winning at this stage.

Lur-ker

However, the way you phrased your comments made it clear you weren't interested in just normal discussion but wanting to fight with someone. Not my style....sorry.

Not interested in your interpretation of my state of mind. More interested in the analysis part. Which I provided plenty of. Sounds like you're the one that got all confrontational. Why? That little bit of sarcasm about Zachary was just that: a little sarcasm. If it bothers you, then scroll on, especially if it has nothing to do with you.

8-4 Miami Top of 6th Inning?

thirstybuzzardcane

IMO, this baseball team is good, but not great. They'll have to play their best ball from here on out! Hopefully, this is a sign we'll be peaking at the right time. We've haven't played well offensively the past couple weeks, so we're due.

thirstybuzzardcane

The Boston College game was in the 9th inning by btw.

thirstybuzzardcane

I'll shut up now!!!!!

thirstybuzzardcane

Jesus! 8-4 and LBS has the bases loaded with 0 outs! This might be one of the biggest choke jobs ever!

Sarasota 'cane

Finally!!

thirstybuzzardcane

Dammit! The score is 8-7 now!

Mr. Moneymaker

Cleveland is going to get smoked these finals, wake up the next day and realize the real nightmare is they're buried under some of the worst big money contracts in the NBA.

Tristan Thompson, Shumper, Frye and Love are total anchors dragging that franchise's future down the toilet.

LeBron ain't getting any younger, none of those cats are getting any better and that front office doesn't have anyone with Riley's magical ability to get someone to take all that dead weight off their books.

Ouch.

Sarasota 'cane

R U kidding me?

Grrrrrrrrr 'canes!

jcane

Nothing like checking on scores while out and watching a lead fade away. Wow! BEAUTIFULL throw by the pitcher to nail the lead runner, which is huge given the next batter getting a hit and putting runners on the corners. Crap..bad throw to first, runner scores, now tied. Next guy out, so to the bottom of the 8th tied at 8. Time to put it behind and get some o going again. Missed early, but if the u has 8 runs on 7 hits, there must have been some creative scoring.

BEERicane

Pick-off error with 2 outs. How stupid can you get?! Focus on the batter!!!

jcane

Lead runner on, now takes second. No outs. Collins up with full count.

jcane

Collins with the walk. Right, Beer. Good team on d, but that was just not keeping his head in the game.

Two walks, lopez up, bunt. Dropped at first, bases loaded. Big inning possible..

Sarasota 'cane

Bases loaded, no outs, bottom 8th!! Now it's our turn!!

Go 'canes!!

jcane

New pitcher warmed up. Ruiz coming up. Ball 1.

jcane

Knocked to first. Force out at home. Now 1 out with bases juiced and abreu up. 0-1

jcane

O-2 , now 1-2 count.

jcane

Strike 3 swinging on a fast ball. Now 2 out, and lbsu in one batter away from killing the big inning. Up to heyward.

Sarasota 'cane

Damn! All 3 runners stranded!!

thirstybuzzardcane

That's pathetic! Bases loaded with 0 outs and we can't even get a run! They don't deserve to advance.

jcane

1-2 count. Flyout to right field. 8th inning done still tied. Gotta get clutch hits, or at least sacs, when bases are loaded with no outs. Hope the d holds in the 9th.

jcane

Leadoff walk. Great way to start the 9th.

jcane

Strike 3. Guerra gets his first out.

jcane

Strike 3 on a wild pitch. 2 down, but runner moves to 2nd.

jcane

Guerra strikes out the side! Maybe this will get the juices flowing again. How about walking off in the bottom 9th so i can get some sleep?!

jcane

Barr sacrificed to 2nd, one down with man in scoring position and the star from last n8ght, chester, up.

jcane

Fly out to right center, although tag to 3rd. Can i ask for a wild pitch here with 2 outs?

jcane

Batista up, 0 for his last 10 and collins on deck.

jcane

He does it, with a looper into right center! Canes win!

thirstybuzzardcane

CANES WIN!

Ohio_Cane

Thank god. That was painful to watch. GO CANES!!

Sarasota 'cane

Brutal finish, but a win's a win!!

Go 'canes!!!

Wiggins. They gave up Wiggins for Love, and why? So Love could stand at the 3 point line doing his best impersonation of a wasted Chris Bosh in a LeBron system. Cleveland is lucky the East is so bad.

Good news is Cavs got to the finals twice with rookie HCs. They need a winner to come in. A guy that won't give a shit.

Braxton Berrios: There’s ‘always an answer’ in Mark Richt’s offense
By Matt Porter
SOUTH MIAMI — Count Braxton Berrios among those excited about Mark Richt becoming the brains behind the Hurricanes’ offense.

“Historically I’ve heard he’s one of the best offensive play-callers there are. I can start to see why,” Berrios said.
“Just his scheme and the way he does things, the route combinations. There’s always an answer, it seems like. I think that’s going to be true on Saturdays in the fall, too. It seems like there’s always an answer.
“He calls the right plays in the right situations. He leaves it up to us to execute, obviously, but it seems like he’s always putting us in the best situation possible. That’s a great thing, and not usual.”
Berrios said coaches challenged him to improve on his spring, which ended with an eight-catch, 147-yard performance in the spring game.
“They thought I had a really good spring, as did I,” said Berrios, who is 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds. “That was my best spring yet, which is good. There’s a lot of things I need to improve on. I don’t need to go into detail about everything. More stuff than they told me, that I believe I need to improve on. Everything’s a work in progress. Summer’s the best time for it – all those details. That’s the main thing. Small details, little things — which are the difference between winning a game and losing a game.”
UM’s veteran wide receivers are training at several roles in Richt’s offense. Stacy Coley said he’s playing the Z (flanker) and Y (slot). Malcolm Lewis plays both, too. Berrios said he’s at the X (split end), Y and Z. Ahmmon Richards, Lawrence Cager and Darrell Langham are X’s. Dayall Harris is a Z for now.
“Looking good,” Berrios said of Richards and Harris, the newcomers. “We’ve only had a limited time with them, especially outside where we can actually see stuff. But they look good. They’re just starting to learn everything, what we do, how we do it, so there’s a learning curve there. But body-wise, athletically, they look like good ballplayers.”

Money...the real issue is salary cap. The Cavs are set to hit the repeat offender clause soon, and they will have a massive total payroll number when the luxury tax is included. Gilbert is willing to pay that right now, but how long will that continue if the Cavs fail to win a title?

Mr. Moneymaker

Exactly Tony.

There will be no getting out from under those contracts. What team in their right mind will take on any existing contract on the Cavs aside from Kevin Love's?

Thompson, Shumpert, JR, Frye?

Dead weight.

Not even going to get into how badly they botched the first pick in the draft three years ago and as TD said, they could've had a young stud in Wiggins too.

WTF was that dude thinking going back to that franchise.

SUNDAY BUZZ COLUMN

With a large gap in athletic department revenue between UM and some of the large public universities (such as Florida and Michigan), UM coaches – under previous athletic directors – often heard “we can’t afford that” when they asked for something. A former UM football coach and an ex-UM basketball coach complained about that privately.

But now that’s generally not the case with a capable athletic director (Blake James) who has excelled at fundraising and negotiated a lucrative deal with Adidas, a Board of Trustees that authorized a 25 to 30 percent pay hike for assistant football coaches and a football coach (Mark Richt) who has been given most everything he requested. A significant jump in Atlantic Coast Conference revenue allocation also has helped.

Cleveland...32 assists, 30 TOs.
Dubs...55 assists, 29 TOs.

^^^^^^ That's the difference in this series, IMHO.

Like Curry said last night..."It STARTS with STOPS". A great defense not only makes it hard for you to shoot, but also hard for you to pass.

Posted by: CaneRock | June 06, 2016 at 10:29 AM

This is his biggest failing.

True. People can pick apart his game all they want, but at the end of the day the problem is LBJ wants to be coach, GM, and star player all at the same time. But he's not up to it. I'm not sure anyone is in today's game. I wouldn't be surprised if there's not resentment from a few players.

Also, super bad call by LBJ to bring in Love. He's super soft.

Agreed! A good coach would get JR Smith involved! They need to do more ballscreens/pick and rolls to get him started. I would also play Mozgov more and use him as a screener. Cleveland live and die by the 3's.

herbieibis

Problem with the canes baseball team is they strike out to much but they sure can bunt and is probably the main reason they sacrifice so much, is because of the strike out.

Yep, Lebron needs to give up control. But part of the reason he gave up on the Heat was control...this would be a huge issue for him. My concern if I was a Cavs fan is if GM James will do things that are increasingly designed to win now and mortgage the franchises future.

Ohio_Cane

I believe he was told what every recruit at Bama and other schools are told. "Come here and be a star. You'll start right away.". He went, but he didn't.

Obviously a guess, but he's a talented kid. Would love him to xfer home to Miami, even though he'd have to sit a year

Lur-ker

Or maybe he's just not good enough.

I mean is going into his sophomore year, having played very little his freshman year as I just read, so you would think he would be optimistic about at least getting a lot more playing time. Unless they figured out it wasn't all that good when he got to Bama.

I'm not saying that's what it is, it could be something else, who knows? But why would Bama give him is outright release like that?

Road is littered with S. Fla kids who went elsewhere and ended up transferring.

Actually his best chance was last year when Golden state was still finding themselves in the finals for the first time but now that there champions and have the confidence and poise that goes with it, there just to good from top to bottom for Cleveland to compete. I think that's why lebron was so distraught after last years finals because I think he realized that this was the one to steal away from golden state like they stole the 2nd and 3rd games in that series before GS got going and rolled off 3 straight to win it all. The guys gonna 32 and has played a big part in loading the cavs down with terrible contracts in love and T. Thompson. I think there window is closed but not everyone realizes it yet because the eastern conference is that bad.

Lur-ker

Sad that I had to be reminded today was D-Day.

Sadder still that had that happened in this era, there is a possibility the operation would have been over-analyzed, probably considered a failure after 24 hrs, and who knows if the national will would have been there to continue to fight through Europe to Berlin.

Thx to all of your family members who sacrificed so much. Most of the kids are being taught practically nothing about the wwII era and how much sacrifice occurred.

College baseball: 8 #1s have advanced so far. 4 lower seeds have advanced, and four are not yet decided. Saddest news was of the vandy pitcher dying while swimming in a lake the other day. I know they have been a great team the last few years, but how do you get out and play a day or two later. Of course, they became an eliminated 1 seed. Bad news re: fsu at uf in super? One will advance to the cws (still hate fu the most!). Several ACC teams are still playing, but #1s like Clemson (why bother winning the acc tnmt?) and UVa were eliminated.

Posted by: Lur-ker | June 06, 2016 at 06:59 PM

The problem is that love and Kyrie are pure offensive one dimensional players and play no defense. Your not going to beat GS by out offensing them. You can only beat them by going big and slowing the game down the game with defense and over all mucking up the game and even then they figure it out and still beat you. So that's why IMO lastyear Cleveland had a better chance because they had to play that way because of not having love and Kyrie. Sad to say but Cleveland is definitely better off without love and maybe with out Kyrie if they could replace him with a two way point guard like a mike Conley Jr who actually plays defense.

Lur-ker

However you characterize Love and Kyrie, 2 things:

1. On paper, anyway, they should be part of the starting lineup and the "big three". On paper, I say, because Love is as soft as baby poo

2. This is GM LBJ's lineup. He wanted Love. He skulked back to Cleveland knowing he'd have Kyrie, and about 99% sure he'd get Love, who he wanted desperately. His team. This was going to be his new big three better than his old big three. It's on him, since he's coach, GM, and star player.
