According to the A.P. college football poll. Miami, Florida is the NO. 13 program all-time. Of course their criteria be somewhat ' flawed ' and what not. Simply because Miami, Florida wasn't considered a major program until after the 1983 season. hUh In other words, the A.P. poll takes into consideration data from the Great Depression era. LOL

The bottom line: if one takes into consideration the criteria of the A.P. college football since 1983. Then Miami, Florida would surely be a legitimate Top 7 program. And that's with the lean years of both the Onion Head and Golden era's.

Lean is good for steaks, ground beef and when trying to impress the ladies. ...not so much for football program. ...

Smith ostracized at Bama

ATHENs — When Maurice Smith informed Alabama of his intention to transfer, his locker was cleaned out, personal belongings thrown in the trash, he was banned from using the athletic facility, and he generally felt “ostracized.”

That’s according to a letter Smith wrote to Alabama’s appeal committee on July 1, which was provided to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday by Smith’s mother, Samyra.

Smith, a senior defensive back who is due to graduate from Alabama on Saturday, wants to transfer to Georgia, but is being denied by Alabama, citing SEC rules.

In the letter, Maurice Smith said he met with Alabama head coach Nick Saban and informed him of his decision to transfer on June 16. Saban informed Smith – who had finished spring practice with the first team at nickel back – that he would not allow him to transfer to another SEC school. That ended the conversation.

“On Friday, June 17, I arrived at the athletic facility locker room to find my locker cleaned out and all of my personal belongings in the trash (photo attached) underneath trash,” Maurice Smith wrote. “These personal items included my family photos, written goals, inspirational and sentimental items memorializing my deceased former friend, roommate and teammate, Altee Tenpenny, and items of personal value from my former teammates.”

Alabama declined to comment when asked about the letter on Wednesday.

Smith’s family provided copies of a text message, the sender of which was blacked out, the text of which said: “Bro I can’t have u at facility. Not for workout, lunch, anything. All in or out policy. Sorry bro.”

Another photo was provided of what Smith’s family says are his personal items thrown in the trash. Who threw them in the trash isn’t clear, but they said the message was clear.

The process actually began on June 13, according to the letter, when Smith initially requested a “permission to contact” from Alabama’s compliance department.

“I was immediately contacted by UA coaching assistants and advised I would no longer be able to “work-out” with the team,” Smith wrote.

Smith’s family says the letter shows that that Alabama and Saban have slow-played the process. Georgia began practice on Monday, while Alabama begins on Thursday.

“These are obvious tactics to stall the process and keep him here by eliminating options to transfer,” Samyra Smith said in an e-mail on Wednesday.

On June 16, Saban met with Smith and, according to Smith’s letter, told him he didn’t need a “formal document” to speak with other schools. Smith insisted on one. When Saban asked where Smith wanted to go to school, Smith named a few, and Saban told him he would not release him to any SEC schools. Smith then received a “permission to contact” form.

Three days after that, an unidentified Alabama staffer told Smith that he could no longer work out at the athletic facility. Three days after that, Smith was told that another staffer advised him he was no longer allowed at the athletic facility “to workout, to eat, or anything.”

“Although I had done nothing wrong, I basically was ostracized from the team and felt I was being forced to make a decision to transfer,” Smith wrote.

On June 23, Smith e-mailed Alabama’s compliance department and requested a release to transfer to Georgia.

Saban called Samyra Smith on June 27 and, according to the letter, “advised that transferring to Georgia was not an option, from his standpoint, and that he would not allow it, and that the SEC commissioner agreed with him.” Saban also met with Maurice Smith that day, and told him he was renewing his grant-in-aid, rather than release him.

The next day, Smith met again with Saban. Since he was not being released to Georgia, Smith asked to be released to Miami. Saban apparently agreed to that.

But when Smith went to the compliance department, he had a change of heart after being given official notification of his transfer request to UGA being denied.

“I felt confused and unfairly treated and did not pursue the release to UM. Although things appeared hopeless, I communicated with my parents who told me to follow my heart and if UGA was where I felt I would have success, I should not back down and should pursue it.”

Smith then formally declared that he would not accept the grant-in-aid for the 2016-17 term.

“As it stands, the recent actions of the UA athletic staff have already sealed their intention to no longer include me as a part of the team. Their actions have demonstrated their non-renewal of aid whether intentional or non-intentional, it is not par for the course and sends a clear message that the rights and privileges that are extended per the aid received as a student-athlete of the University of Alabama, no longer apply to me.”

The letter finished with Smith saying he was proud of graduating from Alabama in three years, and now asked that his appeal to transfer to Georgia be immediately granted. He asked for an expedited review, pointing to the time necessary to apply to UGA’s graduate school and to meet NCAA requirements to play at a new school.

“Please do not punish my success and instead reward the efforts of discipline, and determination that UA requires in all of their student-athletes to succeed,” Smith wrote, before signing off.

"We have told him, 'Because we support the SEC rule, it would not be in your best interest to have to sit out. If you want to go some place else [outside the SEC], we'd be glad to help you do that,'" Saban said.

After last season ended, Alabama did not block the transfer of wideout Chris Black to Missouri, an SEC school.

Samyra Smith asked the AJC, "So what is it? Is it really about my son, or is it about Kirby Smart and Nick Saban?"

Per Matt Porter: The canes will open camp with Mark WALTON as the Hurricanes’ No. 1 running back, with juniors Joe Yearby, Gus Edwards and Trayone Gray behind him.

* No one has distanced themselves in the race for backup quarterback, but redshirt freshman Evan Shirreffs is expected to open camp as the No. 2, with Vincent Testaverde and Jack Allison right behind. Malik Rosier didn’t find his footing in Richt’s offense over the summer.

BigWindyCane1

Per Barry Jackson: Starting defensive tackles. Richard McIntosh, who has made a smooth transition from end, had a strong spring and is the front-runner for one job.

Kendrick Norton might have a slight edge for the other job, but it’s close among Norton, Courtel Jenkins, Anthony Moten and Gerald Willis, the UF transfer who flashed this spring. All five will play, with a UM official citing McIntosh, Norton and perhaps Willis as having the most upside of the group.

Gold-hen girl loser dude will continue to fail in the clutch again this year with several more patented INT in the redzone crunch time choke jobs to live up to his career to date of being a failure.

I'd agree that Kaaya has a lot to prove in the crunch time do or die moments.

Can't agree with the BJ assessment... He didn't hire Al nor was he allowed to fire him during the troll's reign of terror. Since having his testicles returned to him, he has done everything right. He sold cmr, one of the most respected coaches in CFB, on one of the most downtrodden programs in the P5. He pried open the boosters wallets to buy a quality staff. He secured monies for an IPF and He negotiated a a lucrative apparel deal. The other sports have also thrived.

I don't buy the argument that CMR fell into BJs lap. If BJ wasn't competent CMR would not be here now.

OGV, while I have chosen to hold my tongue on endorsement of any new coach until results or lack there of are evident, and without trying to sound too critical, so u don't take my words as 'shots fired,' Your comments do come across strikingly negative. It's almost as if u wish ill of the program. Again, maybe u see some things that I and others are blind to as of now, still I think we r all worn out from all the failed attempts to revive the program by a string of 'latest and greatest' up and coming coaches. And that burn out makes us yearn for success for richt. And those of us that r not willing to go out on a limb yet to call him the next great U coach or those that might be of a negative disposition like your self are better served by adopting a 'wait & see' strategy. But I do not understand that even with your perceived issues with this line up of players and coaches, u don't at least hope for a better outcome, despite.......this is how I feel your article should have been framed/constructed.

1) root for another team
2) stay home and watch the Canes on TV
3) Come out to a game or two and just enjoy. Life is to short my man.....

Attacking is great if you can accomplish 1 of 2 things...

1) get to the QB before receivers are open or
2) smother receiver so QB has to hold on to the ball longer than he likes to.

Wow! Harris and Calloway were suspended for a sexual assault allegation and now UF wants a former student athlete to oversee the Title IX hearing which the girls family and her witnesses have refused to attend. I read that but I don't understand how it's not a criminal case. If she opts out of the criminal case then why would the athletes be subjected to a student hearing for sexual assault outside of a court of law. In any event it's part for that course!

Mark Richt said Miami practiced 'like champions' today http://caneswatch.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2016/08/05/mark-richt-glad-to-see-miami-hurricanes-practicing-like-champions/

30CINCO

The Work: Canes Camp Day 2 Recap

**In his opening statement after practice today, Mark Richt said that his team “practice liked champions”.

Richt cited “effort, focus, energy level, just doing what you’re coached to do” as the reasons for his happiness about today’s practice.

**Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz met with media today after practice and assessed his unit after two days of fall camp. Diaz seems to like where his defense is at
mentally.

“I’m impressed with our knowledge of the scheme. There’s more communication pre-snap because we’re calling out and talking to each other,” said Diaz. “You talk when you’re confident. If you don’t know the answer in class, you mumble or don’t say anything at all.”

“We can all play defense in shorts. These last two days were almost like a review session. Things get real tomorrow when we start banging.”

**Adrian Colbert had a stellar first day of camp yesterday, capped by an interception on Brad Kaaya late in practice. Colbert was also active knocking balls away in the secondary.

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, who is familiar with Colbert from his time at Texas, looks at the grad transfer as a proven commodity.

“Adrian’s done a nice job. He’s brought what we thought he could provide from maturity. He knows how to practice at full speed and knows how to work with a high sense of urgency in everything he does,” said Diaz.

“And then he’s got the physical skills – you see his length and speed which are critical back there. He made a couple big plays yesterday with an interception and then caused another interception with a PBU.”

Colbert himself is learning on becoming a full-time cornerback at Miami because he played safety more at Texas.

“I’ve enjoyed the transition,” said Colbert. “I’m really just focusing on my eyes. My footwork has been pretty good and it’s just about the eyes.”

Mark Richt weighed in on Colbert.

“I’ve liked him since the day he got here. I like his energy, his maturity. He can keep pace here and in some cases lead the way,” Richt said. “He will play a lot. He will play on specials too. He’s long, athletic, and fast. Most safeties work on coverage skills as well, so he’s not really all that rusty.”

**With Miami’s possible depth concerns at corner, sophomore safety JaQuan Johnson is a candidate to play some nickel corner this season. They didn’t show it in spring, but this is a wrinkle that Diaz has already put in.

“The past two practices, we’ve been working me at nickel. We just started that yesterday, “ said Johnson. “It felt good just saddling receivers. We aren’t really in-depth with it yet, but they were just throwing me out there.”

**This Canes tight end group is going to be fun to watch. I mentioned Mike Irvin II as a freshman to watch yesterday, and in the short time we were allotted today to watch, my eyes were on David Njoku and Chris Herndon. Not only do you see a bigger (245 pounds) and faster Njoku, but the biggest difference is that he seems to be much smoother receiving the ball. He's snatching the ball out of the air and looking fluid doing so.

As we've seen since spring, Herndon will be the Swiss Army knife of this offense. Much like Njoku, he looks improved in his craft. Opposing defenses will need to use a fast linebacker or bigger safety to match up with Herndon. Showing him as a fullback will ultimately cause a mismatch problem for defenses.

Don’t forget about Standish Dobard – the seasoned vet of the crew.

“This tight ends group is the most dynamic in college football,” said Dobard. “With me, Njoku, and Chris, you add the two younger guys (Irvin and Haskins) and we all compliment each other very well. Chris is versatile, David is the pass-catcher, and I’m the blocking guy.”

“We will play however they need us. The way that Coach Richt uses his tight ends is crazy.”

Dobard said that he played last season at 268, but is now down to 252 pounds.

**Although the talk heading into camp at the linebacker spot was the two freshmen starters, sophomore inside backer Jamie Gordinier is a player competing for serious time according to Manny Diaz.

“He’s got great length and size for the linebacker position. He’s a smart kid with the potential to help us out at multiple positions. He has some natural pass-rush interest and does a good job of being hard to block,” said Diaz.

“He just needs at-bats, rep. As that comes, his confidence will grow. Lastly, he’s a guy who works hard.”
Gordinier turned 19 today.

**From the media viewing session of practice today, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Bat Milo was lining up as the right tackle for what appeared to be the second unit. Tre Johnson was the third team left tackle.

**Mentioned the backup quarterback competition yesterday with Evan Shirreffs and Jack Allison and just wanted to add something that I had heard.

Allison had a strong showing in day one and continues to become more comfortable in the new system. If it's a tight battle, it will be very interesting if Richt adds in the factor of a redshirt year possibly helping Allison down the road. Shirreffs had a good spring and you want to see him continue to improve on that because Allison's ceiling is sky high.

Mark Richt said today that Malik Rosier is “in the pack”, but over the first couple days of fall camp, Shirreffs and Allison have gotten a majority of the second unit snaps.

**Gerald Willis limped off gingerly near the end of practice yesterday, but seemed to be back at full strength today. Willis said he was fine and said that he is in the best shape of his career. Willis said that when Felder came to UM, he was weighing 270 but needed to add weight. He dropped his body fat from 30% to 20% and now weighs 285 pounds.

“Coach Diaz says the scheme is made for us to make plays – and he’s right, because I’m making plays. We’re in a 4-3 and I’m just loving it,” said Wilis.

“We were out here every day in the summer with Big Gus (Felder) running sprints and all that. I think I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in because of him.”

**Another defensive lineman who says he has dropped in body fat percentage is Chad Thomas, who went from 16% to 11%.

“I’m getting off the ball faster. I don’t have that lazy weight where it feels like there’s a monkey on my back,” said Thomas. “

“We are real competitive on this team. We compete about the smallest thing ever. So when we get out here, this is the biggest thing ever for us.”

His thoughts on the new defensive scheme?

“I love it. It makes me feel like I’m in high school again – I’m on the edge. Every time coach tells us to let loose, it feels good and I can smile and make a play.”

Thomas on Willis: “He’s looking good! I don’t know if y’all could see from over here, but he made some plays. He got a lot of points today in practice,” he said. “Gerald is going to have a big impact because he’s a dog.”

**Braxton Berrios will be a prominent component to Miami’s offense if he is able to stay healthy.

“He’ll be an every down option. With the tempo that we want to go at, I’m hoping to be two-deep in 3-receiver sets. I don’t see him as a situational guy….he can do it all,” Richt said.

**Mike Pinckney was on the stationary bike at the start of practice. Richt said that it was a “quad of hamstring” that was bothering him, but that they don’t expect it to be serious.

**Linebacker Jermaine Grace was not at practice today because he had a final exam this morning. Richt confirmed it after practice.

Sid-tard GD, TS Mike Bradley, both still have fatso choad left on their upper lips, can't make out what they're mumbling about because they can't get their lips separated enough to enunciate how much Fake Lames gets them hot keeping on Smart Mark's fired behind so he wouldn't nuke his career wasting a comeback attempt in Charlottesville. Typical Friday for those two morons.

Afri, you never answered my question as to which historically bad football defense you enjoyed most from D'No these past five season, so until you do I care not what you read into my posts. K? Thnks.

raize, let's go through the schedule; Not wasting money on glorified scrimmages so there's week one and two out the window and 2 g's in my pocket instead. Not spending money in bathroom monitoring obsessed redneck Carolina, so there's the opening month skipped. Not spending money this season to watch a high school offense run by an opponent which brings us to the seven times worth of revenge game where even if it's a one possession game the loser under center is going to choke at home yet again because his teammates don't have the overall talent of that historically notable Houston roster last year and Miami is an amazing 4-14 with an assist from the blind officials that couldn't see underage drunk Walton's knee down with the help of replay against 'ranked' teams since the PedoState ambiguously gay duo attempted to kill the football team. Defending Atlantic champs will boat race that paper thin and soft defense halfway through the season given half a chance even in a rebuild year plus the let down from the previous weekend will probably be in play for Miami. Halfway through and I've got about 6 to 8 g's more in my pocket by being discerning where I burn my entertainment dollar.

Thursday night games used to be Miami's bread and butter virtual guaranteed wins but then Fake Lames kept fatso despite his boss having an announced exit date while that went by the wayside and they haven't won three straight since the turn of the millennium making this at best a toss up. 14 days of rest ND is going to lay it on worse than they did a few seasons ago in Chicago even if Smart Mark throws the kitchen sink at them with his 10 days to prepare and that will be the likely point the playoff becomes an impossibility this season while going 0-rivalry games. That's another pass. Taking a potential five game losing streak or at best a 6-2 record into a homecoming game against an old Big East whipping boy isn't going to get me to open the wallet. Visitors are not successful recently in the UVA series plus they're a bottom feeder team still so even if that trend doesn't hold the game itself is a no sale. Raleigh is in the bathroom monitor obsessed state so that's boycotted on principle to starve the hicks of tourist dollars even if the ACC condones it because they're hoping no one brings it up. Finally Miami/Duke in December? Wait! Where's my entertainment budget? Oh, it's not a basketball game? Never mind then.

Final tally; a minimum 12-15 g's in my pocket instead of burnt on a lucky to get hammered again by felonious-sexual assault-u in the ACC title game where the bathroom will be monitored for gender purity at best football season. Yeah, I think I'll take that to the bank instead. Next year when there's more smarks on the two deep I'll take another look and evaluate if it's worth the expense then. In the meantime, I'll be checking if Radiohead is on tour and spend half of that total there instead. 10-3 division title gets the likes of TS Mike Bradley and the GD sid-tards of the world hot and bothered but then again they still don't understand why fatso got sent to Michigan to whine about burnout when he couldn't stop applying for every open job in the nation during his robbery of the coaching budget in Miami so it's obvious they'll clap their seal fins together for even rotten sardines just as long as they're pulled out of a bucket painted either orange or green. In fact that was the object lesson of 2014's football season, how soon they'd like others to forget.

LOL @ OGV..... you must arrive to the games in a limo after landing in a G5 and drink really expensive Scotch, Stay at the Ritz, and have Owner seats if you spend a grand per game.....

I want to hang with you brother :-)

Coming in for the FSU game 8 October and I'm gonna hold over for the Titans/Dolphins game on Sunday with the Atlanta Dolphins fan club.
The GT game here in Atlanta is another game I will be attending. Soup, hope to see you in Atlanta this year!! You need to put yourself on a 4 or 6 year rotation for the GT game. It's a great "away" game to attend. Lots of canes up here for the game!

Go 'canes!!

Lur-ker

Cumstain is in full delusional mode: 15 g's to attend a few canes games. I'll be laughing all weekend.

Literally the funniest thing that's ever been posted here.

Sota we are staying at the LA Quinta Inn Fort Lauderdale Plantation on Peters Road. The Room Rates for that weekend is running 89 dollars a night. With Tax for the Weekend would run U under 200 dollars. Raize and others if you all are coming to that FSU Game and if y'all don't have hotel accommodations that LA Quinta Inn Fort Lauderdale Plantation on 8101 Peters Road is the Canesspace Headquarters. Have a great weekend. I am heading to Mobile Al-Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Al aka Coastal Alabama for the Weekend and will manage to slide over to the Flora-Bama LOL and hang out in Pensacola for a minute.

I'll probably stay at the Marriott with the Atlanta Dolphin fan club. This is where they will pick us up for the Dolphin game. We have a BBQ and stadium tour in the morning and then the game at 1:00pm on Sunday. My brother also has a discount for Marriott properties. But rest assured I will see you all on Saturday at some point.

GO CANES!!!

I'll be watching the first UM game, waiting for OGV to arrive in unique style by landing in a chartered Harrier jump jet on the 50 yard line and disembarking.

Go Canes!

Sociopathic shut in can't even figure out how much a football game costs to attend.

Probably got tired of everyone at the hospital he gets sent to when he's Baker Acted laughing because he used to say everything costs "About a hundred dollars".

Honestly dude, when you read back that semi literate drivel you ramble on about when the hospital finally gives you computer time do you think "This shit is pure poetry!!" ?

Won't even get into your obsessive homosexual references which obviously show you're severely closeted. Which probably goes a long way in diagnosing your obvious mental health problems.

Come out, everyone deserves to be happy.

I actually believe OGV on his estimate. He has to travel to get to SoFL.

Factor in Travel - Gas, meals, etc to the stadium area: $100-200 (probably family in tow)
Tickets - say $80x4 = $320
Hotel night before and night of game: $200
Tailgate supplies: $100 (this is probably cheap)
Parking: $25
Game food/drinks: $50
Gas/meals on return: $100
Maybe he has pets that have to be watched? $100?

Scarlett's habit post game? Few hundo

Doesn't account time lost/lost income if he works on weekends.

I love everything I am hearing from CMR and his coaches & players. I just glanced at the videos and the players look leaner and faster. Norton, Thomas, AQM, Linder, Isadora and all the other DLs and OLs. Gus Felder has been doing a great job. CMR ignored the Swasey fan club and made the right move in bringing Felder to the program. I like everything so far but I will reserve ultimate judgement until they start playing games. Still, there seems to be a lot to like so far.

Don't forget your daily dental hygiene like most meth users, or people will mistake you as someone from Gainesville.

The Dude

Everyone knows meth is a drug habit that pays for itself. You can pick up that extra shift now... or f*ck it, go kill your neighbor and sell all their sh*t.

Will be interesting to see how Gordinier does against the true freshmen coming.

Shaq seems like a lock, but this kid appears to be making plays early.

Thank god he ignored that fan club because Swazey sucked! Flat out! Dude was part of the ten plus year problem down in coral gables and is a miracle he got a pass for as long as he did.

NicKane

And further more Gus looks like big Suge knight! And that's the kind of beast I'd want running my weight room. Not that midget Kevin hart lookalike Swazey.

Go Canes!

Ariz: Richt says the defense won the day. "It was a swarm," he said. Also added, "I'd be sick if the offense won everyday." #CanesCamp.

The Dude

^^^ In pads yet?

The Dude

Swazey did exactly what he was told to do.

Supposedly, they wanted to start Gordinier last year after Kirby went down, but Scott didn't want to burn His RS.

Yeah, EXCEPT stay licensed so that he could be with the players who were lifting, because towards the end, he wasn't/couldn't.

The Dude

^^^ Hadnt heard that.

CaneRock

TD...it's true. But Swasey was the least of our problemss...it wasn't till 2013, that we started to solicit for donations online. I mean think about that for sec, for as long as we've had internet, they just started soliciting for donations 3 years ago. $h!t was amateur hour under Shalala.

• Left guard KC McDermott explained why the offensive line will be better:

"You guys could see last year and obviously a lot of fans saw last year and made it well known that we did not look like a fit offensive line," McDermott said. "I can admit it, I was 320 pounds, was really bad, did not look good at all. Once coach Richt came in here and hired a nutritionist (Kyle Bellamy) we really realized how important it was to take care of our body. We all took a nutrition class during the spring, really understood what it really meant to take care of our bodies. And what we've done as an offensive line, we've looked out for each other - eat the right things, we've gone to the grocery store [Trader Joe's and Publix] together to make sure we're buying the right foods to eat, right snacks to eat during the day. It's improved - you can see in our body types. Our body fat has gone down, our muscle has gone up and that was the whole focus of the offseason was to make sure we maintain our weights but our body fat goes down and our muscular mass goes up."

BigWindyCane1

Epi,

Kyle Bellamy is obviously doing a great job with the players nutrition. Gus is doing a great job in the weight room. CMR obviously knows how to run a top flight football program.
