Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings heading into Week 5 of the season. Expect the AP Poll to look a lot like this when it is released.

The college football season is starting to heat up, as we have put a bow on the fourth week of the year after another crazy Saturday.

Ole Miss played so well in a laugher against Georgia that one has to wonder how the Rebels are sitting with two losses on the season. Nonetheless, Hugh Freeze and Co. are not quite out of the College Football Playoff discussion despite suffering heartbreaking setbacks to Florida State and Alabama.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin and Nebraska may not get as much press coverage as Ohio State, Michigan and the Big Ten East in general, but the Badgers and Cornhuskers continue to help the Big Ten’s image with each strong win.

Let’s take a look at how the Associated Press Top 25 voters could slot the top teams in the country when they send in their ballots on Sunday.

Week 5 Projected AP Top 25 Rankings

1. Alabama (4-0)
2. Ohio State (3-0)
3. Louisville (4-0)
4. Michigan (4-0)
5. Clemson (4-0)
6. Houston (4-0)
7. Stanford (3-0)
8. Texas A&M (4-0)
9. Wisconsin (4-0)
10. Washington (4-0)
11. Tennessee (4-0)
12. Florida State (3-1)
13. Miami, FL (3-0)
14. Baylor (4-0)
15. Nebraska (4-0)
16. Ole Miss (2-2)
17. Michigan State (2-1)
18. Texas (2-1)
19. Utah (4-0)
20. San Diego State (3-0)
21. Arkansas (3-1)
22. Florida (3-1)
23. TCU (3-1)
24. Boise State (3-0)
25. Oklahoma (1-2)

Texas is interesting. Given the strength of the younger half of their roster and their win over Notre Dame, three weeks ago I felt that they could surprise everyone and go 11-1 or even 12-0 in a weakened Big 12. Three games in however, and the win over the Irish is not as impressive and the Longorns have given up 50 points in two out of three games. They may not finish the year ranked.

BigWindyCane1

I know it's still very early in the season, but the Canes are #1 in scoring defense and tackles for a loss per game. The Canes are also near the top in almost every key defensive category. That's really great, and coach Diaz and his staff deserve credit.

I am a little concerned about the freshmen LBs though. Pinckney has played well enough to be Freshman All ACC so far, and probably has been the Canes best LB so far. Shaq surprised me with only two assists and no solo tackles against App St., and his backup Mike Smith, getting more tackles. McCloud can hit, but he doesn't make enough plays. I will be interested to see how they perform against GT. I expect to see the LB group to improve, and bringing Jaquan Johnson in the nickel package will help against passing teams, but perhaps not as much against GT.

It's a good thing we have Coach Kul and the DL playing all-world. A great DL erases a lot of problems in your defense, and our guys up front have played very well, even with losing players to injury and the luxury car scandal. This GT game is the next, big test. This Canes team could run the table, but it's only talk until they do it.

Go,GoCanes!

Good God:

Miami Herald: Sadly, I can confirm that Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident.

BigWindyCane1

Jose Fernandez? Wow!

The Dude

^^^ that sucks. Kid was a stud pitcher.

thirstybuzzardcane

The boat hit the rocks at the jetty! As a boater/fisherman, boating is a whole different beast at night time!

thirstybuzzardcane

I know where I live (Stuart), the St Lucie inlet is loaded with rocks and is probably one of the most dangerous inlets to get in/out at night time.

I don't care what kind of equipment you have, its still dangerous to go out at night.

nemo2002

Calm down Canes fans.
Three friendlies and a bye week does not justify a top 20 ranking. (Not yet anyway). We need to beat GaTech . . . CONVINCINGLY.
Then the "real season" (against ranked competition) and the "real reason" (for national recognition) begins the following week.

Terrance Sullivan

Nemo Go and Pound Sand that's the case several teams don't need to be ranked.

1mg of Epi

In fairness to FSU, I dont think their D has opened up their playbook yet either... or any playbook ever for that matter, lol.

Or ANY book. Ever.

Stick a sock in it Nemo! Let us have our fun.

Stunned about Jose Fernandez. Devastating. So young. One of the best young pitchers in baseball. Possibly a HOF career ahead if him. All gone.

RIP

CaneRock

^^^^^^^^ Ditto...RIP.

HawaiiCane

Couldn't agree more Lur-ker!

But I think the most devistating aspect is that his girlfriend is recently pregnant. Very tough for his family, even though his legacy will continue.

RIP Jo-Fez!

58 Straight

RIP Jose Fernandez.

U will be missed by me and by many...

Lur-ker

Sean Taylor & Jose Fernandez

Both taken from us at 24.

Both headed for HOF careers.

Both Miami icons

RIP

herbieibis

Watched the replay of the App. game and from what I saw the run defense is a little suspect and the running game aside from the 80 yarder, where Walton ran over a guy in the hole, wasn't that great, got to be better against Tech. Yeah, we do have some good numbers on both sides of the ball but against cup cakes. The next couple of weeks will tell us what we need to know.

TonyCane

Yes, but for now we are ranked again, and ranked #13. Even if the worst happens this year - IE no national championship - we are rebuilding our reputation in the media and laying the groundwork for higher week 1 ranking next year.

Lur-ker

Rankings haven't come out yet, so....

CaneRock

Herb, I agree on the run D, we get out-flanked too easy on those stretch plays. But I think that's an issue that can be corrected, moreso than a talent issue.

herbieibis

CR, no doubt we have some talent but GT will run similar stuff, so those rookie LB's can't stray. This will be a big test for our front 7.

Lur-ker

Against tech, it's all about discipline and maintaining gap integrity

Lur-ker

😝

TheeMackJones

Hurricanes are now No. 14 in both the AP and Coaches poll.

HawaiiCane

Rankings are out and we are #14 in both polls.

TheeMackJones

ESPN-2 will cover the upcoming Miami, Florida vs. Georgia Tech game.

Well duh, the VAST MAJORITY of Top 30 teams have " built up their stat's " against inferior competition. huh

Go,GoCanes!

Think we're going to hear those three young men left American Social around 2:15 a.m. on the boat.

Been a boater for 35 years, a boater owner for 15 of them and I try to avoid navigating at night because it's so damn dangerous.

But at 24 I felt indestructible and would probably have done what they did.

Such a stupid, tragic decision.

Breaks my heart man.

TheeMackJones

New NCAA statistics:

2. Miami, FLorida

Team offense

18. Miami, Florida

1. Miami, Florida

Exaclty my thoughts. A pinnacle of ineptitude on so many levels.

thirstybuzzardcane

I can't even be excited about this Dolphin win.....This team is trash! Cleveland should of won this game.

Go,GoCanes!

Haven't we made Cleveland feel good enough this year?

This has to be a low point in this franchise's history.

We need them to miss 3 field goals and inexplicably defer in OT to beat that train wreck of a franchise.

thirstybuzzardcane

Why wouldn't Cleveland run 1 more play to get closer in field goal range.....they even had a timeout left.

VfB_Cane

Actually, this puts the Hurricanes in a great position to establish themselves as the #1 sports attraction in Miami.
Marlins below .500, Heat in rebuilding mode and the Dolphins are painful to watch.

1mg of Epi

Damn les miles fired!

Go,GoCanes!

Les Miles being shown the door at LSU.

CaneRock

LOL...and they fired Cam Cameron.

TheeMackJones

With the recent firing of Miles, a lot of schools will be POACHING all those HS verbal's. So I guess Richt and staff should get in on the " poaching " too.

VfB_Cane

Frankly, I don't really care unless LSU hires Butch Davis.

CaneRock

Let's play a game of "Shuffling The Coaching Deck"...Jimbo to LSU...Herman or Kelly to FSU...

Lur-ker

FSU nation is shitting all over themselves.

I'm looking forward to this being a distraction to them all year. Get your popcorn.

TheeMackJones

Jeremy Crabtree RecruitingNation

" Thoughts from SEC assistant after Les Miles' firing: "It'll be open season with LSU's recruits," the coach said. "Their class was so good. It'll be tough to pry some of their in-state guys away, but this will help others go after their out-of-state guys . This could have just changed Dylan Moses' recruitment big time." Moses, a five-star athlete from Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy, is originally from Louisiana and is considering LSU, Alabama, Miami, Texas and UCLA. " espn.com
___________

What did I say, Jack. It's " poaching " time, baby.

herbieibis

Herman to LSU, unless Jimbo has a so so year at FSU.

Lur-ker

Herman goes to the NFL, Texas, or USC. He ain't going into the same division as Saban.

Lur-ker

Petrino is another possibility to LSU

herbieibis

This is a prime reason for a coach to get the boot, suk azz QB play. They have those 5 star receivers and have lousy QB play,If I was a WR, why would U go their with the QB's they have. Thank God Golden didn't fire Deno or that turd still might be with us.

Why are u still so wrapped in the team owned by the dude who hosted tebow/UF day on our Home field? U need to check Yoself.

The Dude

Just read Art Briles to LSU.

Lur-ker

No, you need to check YOURSELF!

The Dude

Tonight I drink to the death of LSU football. Long may they suffer.

1mg of Epi

I know him! He's the guy who made a fortune mixing iced tea and lemonade.

Go,GoCanes!

Arnold Palmer with raspberry lemonade....

That's some good stuff

The Dude

Without Arnold Palmers, there'd probably be no John Dailys. Respect to the people who paved the way for intoxicating beverages.

The Dude

Where does Les Miles land? No doubt another big program.

BigWindyCane1

The Canes open as a -6.5 point favorite at GT

thirstybuzzardcane

Would it possible that Notre Dame might let Kelly go and go after Miles. I know ND has big time money where they can afford to do that.

thirstybuzzardcane

I hate betting on my Canes, but I would take them just like I did against App State

thirstybuzzardcane

I'm not a huge Miles fan. He's way to conservative for my liking. He plays to lose the game....he'll sit on a 7 point lead which I don't get why coaches do. Now defensively, they always ball out.

^^^ Stanford and UCLA played that way last night... but thats not really elite college ball. You have to have backups playing in the 4th.
