Sounds like good vibes from that recruiting article. Although I prefer another stud RB, I think' we'll get a good haul in 17'.

Go Canes!

We're hopefully trending up CR. If we keep what we have and pull a surprise or two it will be a solid class.

Reading about DeeJay Dallas, have we ever had a kid that's played both ways?

And if He has to settle on one side, which side of the ball do ya'll think He's best at?

BigWindyCane1

Miami is at -3 right now. The favored Canes need to take care of business at NC State. Next to the Pitt game, this is probably their toughest opponent to finish the regular season.

With GT, Pitt and UVA, it is good to see that there are finally some impressive, double-digit ACC wins under CMR. At some point, the Canes will have to learn how to win the close games, but some players and programs have to take it one step at a time.

This is the first year for these players under CMR's system, and sometimes it takes some players a while to adjust to new coaches and new systems. Kaaya missed his share of proper reads on Saturday - I can think of at least 5 big plays the Canes left on the field, but they still won big. I think Kaaya is struggling with learning and reading coverages in CMR's offense, but I believe that CMR will get that corrected.

I think NC State defense will load up the box to stop the run, and mix coverages in an effort to confuse Kaaya. It is up to him to get the ball to his playmakers in the right positions and everything will take care of itself.

The good news is that Kaaya and this offense can get better. If Kaaya comes out on Saturday and the passing offense makes big plays, you can credit CMR for developing his QB

In regards to Kaaya, he needs to incorporate the study habits of Ken Dorsey. That guy was known as Mr. Film and we have not had anybody remotely close to him when it comes to studying film.

I don't think you really believe that. It is a fact that KD's teammates made it public how much time he spent watching film. If Kaaya is doing the same, one would think word would have leaked out that he was a film rat- JMO.

Ohio_Cane

And before U say something along the lines of Kaaya being way behind KD, just stop, because what Kaaya has pales in comparison to what KD had, especially OL.

I don't think a lack of knowledge of the game is what ails Kaaya. He's good enough at quickly processing what he sees in front of him. The problem is that his feet (and most other parts of his body as well) aren't quick enough to turn what he sees into positive plays. Especially not when he's under pressure.

Kaaya is your typical feel-good quarterback. When he's comfortable in the pocket and finds his rhythm, he looks great. However, when the going gets tough, don't expect any consistency or accuracy from him.

And, as many have pointed out on this blog, quarterbacks like that are a dime a dozen.

Nevertheless, the HATERS will begin their hate party, again, if Kaaya has a crappy game.

Think Kaaya's issues are execution related more than a lack of knowledge.

TheeMackJones

Kaaya is going to feel the pressure in a hostile enclave this Saturday.

Because NCST. has two very, very good defensive ends. And one of their DE's has ' 18 ' sacks for the season so far. OUCH

Thus it begs the question. Will McDermott and St. Louis bring their A games Saturday. Because if either one of them has an average game, Kaaya is going to get MOLESTED akin to the Fighting Celt game! Yikes.

ARIZ:

Defense's success gives Brini confidence

Miami was hot on the trail of Mater Academy defensive back Latavious Brini back throughout the spring and into the first half of the summer – that was until Brini committed to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs in Athens.

Just months after Brini pledged to UGA, he is back as an uncommitted prospect and the local Hurricanes are heavily in the mix once again. Brini has been two Miami games at Hard Rock Stadium this season, including Saturday night’s game against Florida State.

“I loved it. Even though they lost, UM put up a great fight. I loved everything about it,” Brini said. “That crowd was crazy. Every time Miami made a first down, they want crazy.”

Brini added, “That’s the craziest game I’ve ever been to.”

Possibly the biggest difference for Brini as it pertains to Miami is that he is seeing success on the field to back up what the coaches have been selling to him for months.

“The defense is amazing this year,” he said. “It’s surprising a little bit, but it gives me a lot of confidence. It gives me confidence that if I go there, I’ll play for a great coach and a great defense. I saw a lot of freshman play and have a chance to see the field.”

Brini admits he was not ready for a commitment when he did so back in July, but he feels like the experience has helped him mature along the way.

“I really, really understand the process now of committing somewhere,” Brini said. “My next decision will be my final decision. I’m going to take my official visits and then make my decision.”

Even through his commitment to Georgia, Miami coaches stayed in contact with Brini, which he said showed the Canes’ “loyalty” to him.

The 6-2 Mater Academy DB has maintained a relationship with both Mike Rumph and Ephraim Banda. Brini said that he is open to playing either cornerback or safety at Miami.

On the possibility of playing at home in Miami:

“When you play in front of you’re hometown, you’re playing in front of people that you grew up with. That’s crazy.”

ESPN reports Butch Davis is the new Coach at FIU... good for him

Go Canes!

Good for Butch. Wish he would have gotten a better gig, but it is what it is.

Alex Donno: There ya go. Butch Davis wanted a Miami coaching job and he got one.

Sarasota 'cane

Butch is too old to be considered "on deck" for UM (Richt will be at UM for at least 5-6 more years), but something tells me this is just a 1st stop on his way back up the food chain.

Go Canes!

Butch Davis is FIU’s new head football coach, Panthers athletic director Pete Garcia said Monday.

FIU signed Davis, 64, to a five-year contract. Salary details were not released, but a Tuesday news conference has been called to introduce the Panthers’ new coach.

Davis, who hasn’t been a full-time coach since he was fired by the University of North Carolina in July of 2011, is currently working as a college football analyst for ESPN2.

But the allure of coaching was obviously still present in his mind, and he wanted to get back in the game.

Davis had reportedly tried to get back into coaching previously, but his age and past allegations at North Carolina apparently dissuaded other athletic directors from hiring him.

Garcia, though, has a relationship with Davis dating back to their days at the University of Miami.

The FIU job, currently held on an interim basis by Ron Cooper, had been considered open since Ron Turner was fired amid a 0-4 start.

Cooper, who was Turner’s defensive coordinator and has extensive experience as a head coach, could have been a fall-back option. FIU also could have considered former UM coach Randy Shannon, now the Florida Gators associate head coach; UM defensive coordinator Manny Diaz; and Gators defensive coordinator Geoff Collins.

Garcia, though, preferred Davis, who inherited a Canes program in 1995 that was on probation with severe scholarship limitations. Even so, Davis went a remarkable 51-20 in six years, including 11-1 in his final season, just missing out playing for a national title.

Davis recruited or coached numerous stars at Miami, including Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Jeremy Shockey, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis.

The coach left Miami in such good shape that the Canes’ 2001 team won the national title under coach Larry Coker, who used mostly players recruited by Davis.

Davis left Miami for the Cleveland Browns, where his 2002 team went 9-7 and still stands as the most recent Browns team to reach the playoffs.

In four years at North Carolina, Davis turned things around from 4-8 his first season to 8-5 in his final three campaigns. The previous coach, John Bunting, had just one winning season in six years at UNC.

But while Davis was successful on the field, he was fired after UNC drew the ire of the NCAA in a “improper benefits” and “inappropriate academic assistance” scandal. Davis was not mentioned in the NCAA inquiry, but the damage was done. Davis was fired and all of the Tar Heels’ 2008 and 2009 wins were vacated.

Former wide receiver Tony Gaiter III, who played for Davis at UM, said last week that he believes his old coach will do a great job at FIU.

“I would love (to bring Davis here),” said Gaiter, who son, Gaiter IV, is an FIU freshman wide receiver. “Give Butch some time, and he will turn things around.”

If you lived in Miami and saw what we see down here, you'd understand what FIU does or doesn't do has no relevance to UM and it does.

They are in two different stratospheres and there's no way kids like Richards, Duke, Thomas and the rest are going to spurn the U or Bama or any other big time program for FIU to play for Butch.

He's a great coach and recruiter but he isn't a threat to the U at all imo.

I can understand TD not knowing that but good lord you are clueless.

Yes, Felix is better then McFarland. Pad level? Felix is 5'll-6'0. McFarland is 5'9 maybe. He's just shorter. Whatever flaws Felix has can be coached up. He bigger, more explosive, catches better and plays against tougher competition. I think his ceiling is higher...

The Dude (AR-15 Builder)

I wont argue his ceiling Co. He's certainly talented.

Go,

Hold on. Im not saying FIU will be recruiting 4 star kids in 3 years... but if he can build something solid... it can happen. Especially if FIU kids start going pro. We shouldnt underestimate anything. Hell, Miami cant land 5 stars anymore. They barely land 4 stars.

UMike

Does Butch win the Sun Belt before Miami wins the ACC?

Glad to see we got over the UVA hump and the run game was going. I'm not a Kaaya hater, but man he missed some wide open guys. Wonder if he is so concerned with getting the ball out quick he isnt going thru all his progressions. At least the play calling has been better.

UMike

Butch doesnt need 5-Stars or 4-Stars. He is a guy that can see a skinny 3-Star kid and see what he will be in 2-3 years. He will win with 3-Stars and then move onto something bigger.

Terrance Sullivan

FIU and FAU are now in Conference USA. All I Will continue to say is Just Win Baby!

CaneRock

Not knowing anything about FIU's previous recruiting classes, but I think Butch will be lucky to get 3*s in there. Look at us, Norton & McIntosh were 3*s...and I think Bama's starting a couple of 3*s on their D. Not saying you can win a NC with all 3*s, but 3*s are talented too.

UMike

CR, good point. But some of those are underrated 3-Stars. Just trying to say Butch can identify talent others miss, at least he could before. If he can do that he will be successful. If he builds a roster full of 2-Star and 3-Star kids from South Florida, they should be more talented then the rosters of other schools in that league building rosters in their local areas. If he keeps kids from going to Marshall or UCF, USF etc etc he will be successful imo

Go Canes!

Excellent point CR. For all the talent there is from west palm beach south, quality DTs are still the hardest to come by.

orange 'n green in the vein

Davis left Vilma hanging in the studio, too bad, they had some great chemistry in the cut ins at halftime breaking stuff down.

Coach Davis still possess the best set of eyes for evaluating high school and JUCO football players and projecting what they can be in a college weight training program in the entire business.

He'll be fine, he's already on the Rushmore of UNC football coaches and, depending on how generous you want to be to his old OC, he's on the Miami one too.

Smart Mark doesn't have as much jewelry to flash on the recruiting trail in comparison either, better step his pitch up to compensate . . .

SinisterCane

Did you see that NFL throw Kaaya threw last week!!!!

Go Canes!

Ariz:

Miami welcomed a plethora of recruits for official visits two weekends ago as the team defeated Pittsburgh in convincing fashion. One of the recruits in attendance was Canes tight end commit Brian Polendey, out of Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.

Polendey, who took the trip with both of his parents, described the atmosphere of that weekend.

It was my moms first time in Florida and she was impressed with the whole set up down there.

As soon as I got on the bus with other recruits, we were all talking and then when we pulled up to the stadium, thats when I realized where I was, Polendey said. That was just awesome seeing the renovations and upgrades theyve made to the stadium.

With Polendey set to enroll at Miami in January, he felt like it was an important visit to get him acquainted with his surroundings.

Most of the weekend consisted of seeing what its like to be a Miami Hurricanes football player. I got to spend some good time with the coaches and some of the players, he said.

The Texas product is Miamis only current commitment at tight end, but the Canes are hot on the trail of IMGs Tre McKitty. Polender explained that this is not a move that caught him by surprise.

I think the way they see it is that they have several tight ends in Chris Herndon and David Njoku that will more than likely go to the NFL if not this year, then next year, he said. I know that a coach normally wants about five guys in the tight end room who are capable of playing. If those guys leave, thats where two guys fit in. The offense uses two tight ends, so its not like a one-man show.

Polendey knows he will be asked to be a reliable blocker as a Hurricane something he is very excited about. The Canes commit actually played more defensive end than tight end for his team this season out of necessity.

When I play offense, its actually a little bit more physical than defense because of the way I block. I was more of a pass rusher for my team and it was less about shooting gaps and being a big run stopper, Polendey said.

The 6-2, 225-pound tight end explained that his history of playing multiple positions dates back to when he began playing football.

I started playing football in eighth grade and I was a little skinny kid who they put at offensive tackle. I actually played receiver too, which is a weird combination. Finally my sophomore year, I decided to play receiver and tight end, Polendey said.

So with enrollment about a month and a half away, does Polendey feels like he is mentally ready for the grind of college ball?

Yeah, I think where I play high school football, theres no other place that can prepare you better than Dallas, Texas. The way my team is trained weve been a state contender for the last five or six years and Ive just been working for this my whole life.

Go Canes!

Richards and Kaaya have developed a nice chemistry the last few games. If he stays healthy AR has 1st rounder written all over him.

LOVE Diaz! Our best coach

Go Canes!

He was an unbelievable hire Ohio. He's kept that defense aggressive and focused despite a ton of injuries and inexperience.

Go Canes!

Barry:

• With regard to the possibility of Brad Kaaya turning pro, Richt said he wouldn’t broach that issue with Kaaya until after the regular season but before the bowl game.

He said for all his underclassmen, “we try to get our guys as much real information from scouts, GMs, NFL people. I’ve got a guy that helps our guys understand the reality of the draft…. Most of the guys can improve their status by staying.”

• Richt says his team is respected by opponents, but not feared. So what’s needed to be feared? More elite skill position players? More dominant lines?

“I know when I see film I have a certain feeling in my gut,” Richt said. “I think you’ve got to win on a consistent basis and play dominating football and we’re not there yet. We’re playing very competitive football and people respect what they see on tape but I don’t think we’re shaking them up.”

• Richt said there “was a 15 minute barrage” when coordinator Manny Diaz was angry with his defense Tuesday. Richt wasn’t sure why.
