I thought this was Sunny's last year? If not, I expect Him to be in the mix at RT if He's 100%. But TSL's ballin' there now, should be an interesting battle.

CaneRock

But I'm not too worried about the Tackle spots, it's the OG spots we need to get right. I thought Milo would've been a starter by now, startin' to look like a bust.

The Dude

What would be the issue with the NFL paying college athletes even while they are in school?

Say the 49ers really like Brad Kaaya. But Kaaya doesnt declare, he comes back to Miami. But the 49ers say screw it, of he's there in the 6th round we take him even though he's not coming for another year. Then he gets a prenegotiated contract (by the CBA), say its 150k while in school, then he can negotiate his NFL salary prior to the NCAA season but doesnt get paid the NFL salary until he's in the NFL.

Exactly Ohio. Some of these guys on here are complete fools if they think a power five kid the five time National champion Miami Hurricanes want would ever chose USF a program that's never won nothing and never gonna get win anything, then there just blind fools! News flash to some of you, top kids don't want to play for group of five teams! And Umike you need to stop it with this BS "but USF has done it before" which if they did, it was probably someone we weren't really high on and I can gurantee it was when USF was in The big east and was a BCS conference. Some of you need to get in reality!

Hahahaha. You have a strong opinion on what reality is. Problem is that your wrong. Miami offered 4 star ATH Bruce Judson... but he's committed to USF. He even camped at Miami where they liked him a lot.

NicKane (casual fan)

I doubt you or anymore on here know whether Miami really liked a player or not. And since I've neber even heard of the kid and he's never been even talked about once in this recruiting cycle then I'm gonna correctly assume that he really wasn't a take because if we really wanted him, we would have heard about him and would probably be on his way down to gables right now. Again, open your eyes and see reality.

The Dude

Reality says anything can happen. Even USF passing up Miami as a program.

Well if no one knows anything then why cant I assume that Miami has been stuck getting FIU & FAU leftovers for years? Not your best argument bro.

The Dude

Judson was committed to OSU for 6 months. Was recruited and offered by almost everyone including Miami. He chose USF over an offer from Miami. I'm sorry some people now have to deal with the fact that they've been wrong and that they are actually wrong in the very moment of whoch they are arguing that USF cant pull kids we want also. It is factually incorrect.

Here's what I think.

We need to remember USF just won 10 games this year. Strong is stepping into a really good situation, not as good as Louisville, but in some ways better. All Strong has to do is make the program consistantly win 9 or 10 games. He and his DC, Im assuming Vance WILL pit players in the NFL. From there, they may not compete for titles (something Miami doesnt do either), but they will year in year out compete with Miami for 3 to 5 players. If Butch or Lane are able to get their respective schools into a position as good as USF, then Miami will get into more battles for some 3 star kids. The good news is that Lane & Butch arent sticking around long if that starts to happen.

I'm not that worried about Strong. By the time he gets things squared away, Richt will have the Canes in a much stronger position.

As for Kiffin, he's out within three years unless FAU joins the Big 12. And even then, he's gone at the first light of success.

Davis has the hardest path to success. His tenure at UNC and UM were marked by great recruiting, but can Davis attract the same level of recruits at Florida International University?

Webster attended Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami Gardens, Florida, where he was a letterman in football and track. In football, he saw action on both sides of the ball and as a return specialist and was a two-time first team All-Dade selection. During his junior season, he caught 30 passes for 500 yards with eight touchdowns on offense, while also adding 65 tackles, four sacks, seven forced fumbles and 10 fumble recoveries on defense. Academically, he carried a 3.0 GPA.[1]

Also an standout track & field athlete, Webster was one of the state's top performer in the sprinting events. He earned All-Dade County First Team 3A track and field honors in 2007 and All-Dade County First Team 3A football honors in 2008. He was tabbed All-American by Track & Field News in the 4 × 100 m in 2009. He led the Pace Spartans 4 × 100 m relay team to three straight Florida 2A state championships his sophomore and junior seasons, and posted the fastest time in the nation in the 4 × 100 m relay with a time of 40.54 seconds as a senior, setting the state meet record in the process.[2][3] He took silver in the 100 meters at the 2009 Region 4 meet, with a time of 10.67 meters. Additionally, he was also timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash and posted a 245-pound bench press.

Everything but that, Richt has done excellent.

UMike

Ohio... how do you know any kids offer is "committable" or not? You have no clue, just like the rest of us.

UMike

Hopefully CMR wins and Strong doesnt and none of this matters

UMike

Some of you need to get in reality!

Posted by: NicKane (casual fan) | December 14, 2016 at 08:44 PM

You mean the reality where USF has flipped Miami players in the past, the reality where Strong has flipped Miami players in the past, the reality where Strong built Louisville on South Florida players, the reality that USF was in the top 5 more recently then us, the reality that USF had a 10 win season more recently then us, the reality where USF actually beat us on the field or the reality that Strong is a huge name even after the Texas stumble....

Again... I am NOT saying it will happen. But to act like it will never ever happen because we're the big bad 5 time champion hurricanes is naive imo. Todays SR class was like 2yo when Miami won a title.

My point, if you actually read all my comments, is not that it will happen or on a regular basis, but that it COULD, it is POSSIBLE. Let us have a couple more 8-4 seasons with losses on national tv while USF keeps winning 10 games and then it becomes possible.

Hopefully that doesnt happen. Hopefully we win 9-10 games and go to the ACC title game next year. Hopefully Strong falls flat because he is a overrated coach. These are all more likely, but it doesnt make the other scenario impossible.

UMike

Gulliver Prep running back Robert Burns has been a nationally recognized name on the recruiting scene since his freshman year of high school when he was posting eye-opening SPARQ testing numbers.

It’s been a long journey for Burns, but a generally quiet recruitment since he committed to Miami almost two years ago now. Today, Burns made it official and signed with the Hurricanes – he will enroll at Miami in January and begin classes on the 18th.

“It felt amazing – just everything that you dream of finally coming true. I held back some tears, but I’ll probably cry about it later,” Burns said.

“My family has always been my support system and they’ve always been there for me, so in a way this is me showing them that everything was worth it.”

Burns is a rare commodity in today’s era of south Florida recruits – not only did he commit to the hometown school early, but he stayed true to his pledge the entire process.

“Since February 22nd of 2015, which was the day before I committed, I just felt like that was where God wanted me to be. I felt that if I trusted in God, then things would work out,” he said.

“It hit me when I actually saw the papers. I thought I was going to sign like fake papers, so that was funny. It was definitely surreal.”

A major factor in his recruitment was Miami’s on-campus recruiting coordinator Jorge Baez, who has delivered on 4-4 Gulliver targets over the last year. Burns joins Joseph Jackson, Dionte Mullins, and Cedrick Wright in Coral Gables – just a few minute down the street from the Gulliver campus.

“He’s been huge (Baez). I can’t even put into words the type of impact he’s had on my life. I’ve got nothing but love for him – nothing but love,” Burns said.

“It’s a legacy being created. It started with Sean Taylor and even to the guys from last year’s class so I wanted to follow in their footsteps and do even better than them.”

Burns, who missed most of the season with an ankle injury, is healthy and will play in the Under Armour All-American game on January 1st. He will be on Miami campus shortly thereafter.

“No doubt, I’m ready to work. I’m already learning the playbook and I’m prepping for the Under Armour game. In the back of my mind, it’s right there. I can’t wait to step on campus.”

Some football news and notes on the day before Miami opens practice for the Dec. 28 Russell Athletic Bowl against West Virginia (5:30 p.m., ESPN):

* The latest on Brad Kaaya, David Njoku and the NFL draft:

Kaaya is leaning toward returning, UM sources said, and Njoku is leaning toward leaving (and has told those close to him he will enter the draft). Neither has publicly stated their intentions. Kaaya, for what it’s worth, raised eyebrows this week by tweeting (and later deleting) a photo of Njoku, tagging his Twitter handle, and captioning it “2017?” with a “thinking” emoji. So there’s that.

Kaaya, according to most draftniks, ranks behind Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky and Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer among top eligible quarterbacks. Njoku is not rated by many websites but scouts have expressed to UM he has first-round talent.

Chad Thomas and Gerald Willis were advised to stay and it appears they will do so. WalterFootball ranks Thomas ranks 21st among eligible defensive ends.

Underclassmen have until Jan. 16 to enter the draft.

* Regarding two transfer possibilities reported by CanesInsight.com — junior running back Gus Edwards and junior defensive tackle Courtel Jenkins — UM sources said both are, well, possible.

Edwards, a Staten Island, N.Y. native who chose UM over Syracuse in 2013, could return home as a graduate transfer. He rushed for 271 yards and a touchdown in 10 games, after missing 2015 with a broken foot. Last month, running backs coach and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown said though Edwards was still recovering early in the season, he wished he had played him more.

It’s common for coaches inheriting a roster of players to have different opinions than those players on how they should be used. Transfers, both of the immediate and the “let’s wait a year and see how it goes” varieties, are not generally surprising. Without Edwards and Joe Yearby, who plans to turn pro, UM’s backfield will be less experienced, but not lacking in talent.

UM was pleased with what Edwards showed — and hopes he returns — but losing him would mean more work for Travis Homer (proved to be an excellent special-teamer as a freshman; has good top-end speed). Mark Walton, named overall team MVP at the awards banquet, put up 1,365 total yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore and will be one of the ACC’s premier backs in 2017. UM also has mystery man Trayone Gray returning from an ACL tear. It’s unclear what Gray has to offer. The Hurricanes plan to sign two running backs this cycle (Gulliver Prep four-star Robert Burns plans to enroll early, and potentially, Maryland-based four-star Anthony McFarland), which is good news since Walton, if he continues at this pace, is all but certain to turn pro after next year.

The father of McFarland, the No. 3 all-purpose back according to 247Sports and Rivals, told Rivals UM is “definitely his leader,” over Maryland and Alabama. ESPN rates him the No. 70 overall player in the 2017 class. ESPN rates Burns 67th, and the seventh-best running back.

A not-fun fact: if Edwards left, he would be the 12th player in UM’s 19-member 2013 signing class to transfer, be dismissed, never make it in or leave early for the NFL draft (Artie Burns). The only Hurricanes who signed that year out of high school and made it to this point: Corn Elder, Stacy Coley, Sunny Odogwu, Jamal Carter, Alex Gall, Stan Dobard and for now, Edwards.

Jenkins, according to a source, has expressed a wish for more playing time. Rutgers did not offer him out of high school (Buffalo, Maryland, UMass and Pitt did), but it is the major program closest to his Jersey City, N.J. home.

Go Canes!

What makes me laugh the most is when people on here take these crazy scenarios and isolated cases and make them seem like realistic, long term possibilities .

Then at the same time criticize, question and downright doomsday the only program that's actually done what these other programs are being predicted to do.

We've got a future hall of fame coach who AVERAGES 10 wins. We have a tradition of putting more guys in the NFL every year than those schools will combined wether we win or lose. We're a national brand, one of the most recognizable, winningest, revered programs in college football..

And we are the rarest of schools, either loved or hated by every single follower of the sport. With us there is no middle ground.

How many schools can say just that last sentence.
'
When weve been average or even bad those schools have been no threat. When CMR really starts winning they'll be down to the equivalent of a pimple on an elephant's ass.

Give me a break.

UMike

Go Canes... does that mean it could NEVER happen? Thats the only point of this.. COULD it happen?

So said "when" CMR starts winning... well that hasnt happened yet so calm down. The same "future hall of fame" coach costs us 3 wins this season because of his shitty play calling.

He may very well get us 10 win seasons and I hope he does, but this isnt the Go Canes fantasy world were Cane nation is 100% fine all the time, its reality.

So again I ask, which is my only point... COULD it happen?

UMike

Also..what exactly are the crazy scenarios?

Go Canes!

So again I ask, which is my only point... COULD it happen?

Posted by: UMike | December 15, 2016 at 06:57 AM

No.

FIU, FAU and USF will never, ever, ever be a threat in any way, shape or form.

My backing is 35 years of historical data, what's yours?

UMike

Im going to stick with the PROOF that USF has already flipped a Miami committ lol.... I am not saying they will be a threat to our program, I think you missed what I was saying. I am saying it is possible for USF to get a player Miami also wants...its already happened.

UMike

And so its clear to everyone...I am ONLY talking about recruiting. The topic was that USF will NEVER EVER get a player that Miami also wants...that is what I have been responding to. Not the idea that FIU, FAU or USF as a program will take over Miami

Go Canes!

No idea who that kid is or what happened in his recruitment.

Could have been grades, character, a numbers game, we changed our mind, his girlfriend went to USF, his mom was sick or he had a thing for Bulls.

The point will continue to be if we want a kid badly he'll be here not at any of those programs. And there will never be a scenario, ever, ever, ever where a recruit says I'm going to one of those schools because it's a better program than the U.

UMike

Yall are some naive ass people lol... saying something will never ever happen, when its already happened more than once lol... So now if a kid doesnt come to Miami its because grades, character, we didnt want him, gf etc.... couldn't possible be because we havent been relevant in almost 2 decades, havent won a bowl game in a decade, have been embarrassed on national tv numerous times, had sanctions, havent played for a conference title in over a decade, had the worst d in the history of the program, had a dumb stubborn coach, played in half empty stadium etc etc etc....no it couldnt be because ANY of those factors.

This is the 90's or the early 00's, stop living in the past.

SOUP

When CMR really starts winning they'll be down to the equivalent of a pimple on an elephant's ass.

Right now, in the USF class there is a 4-Star commit with a Miami offer. In 2009 they flipped Kayvon Webster who we infidelity wanted and is a starter in the NFL. They had Jason Pierre Paul another 4-star in that class. Bradly Battles, another 4-star same class. Adaris Bellamy, 4-Star. In 2010 they got 4-Star Todd Chandler, who Miami wanted. They got 4-Star Terrence Mitchell. 2011 they got 4-Star Elkino Watson who had Miami offer and was from Miami. In 2012 they got 4-Star WR D'Vario Montgomery who had a Miami offer. Same class they got 4-Star Sean Price who had a Miami offer. 2013 for 4-Star Lamar Robbins from Miami. In 2014 they got a couple more 4-Stars although from the Immokalee area. 2016 they snag 4/5-Star Darnell Salomon who had Miami offer and offer from everyone else. Also got 4-Star Craig Watts who had Miami offer.

So, I think its fair to say it CAN happen :)

Again... NOW THAT WE HAVE A REAL STAFF, ARE CHANGING THE CULTURE AROUND THE SCHOOL, UPGRADING FACILITIES (NAMELY THE IPF WHICH IS LONG OVERDUE), ETC.

For the last time... AS LONG AS MARK RICHT IS HERE, WE WILL NOT LOSE 1 SINGLE F'ING RECRUIT TO USF THAT WE ACTUALLY WANT.

Ohio_Cane

I hate the damn inferiority complex Golden and Radio have instilled in this school and fan base. I understand, but i hate it.

Ohio_Cane

Call me a homer, call me whatever U want.

I refuse to believe that some shit school like USF or any other "group of 5" team can take ANYONE from the power that is/was/can be again at Miami.

WE ARE THE M F'KING U.

UMike

Cherry picking two guys over the last 10 years as "proof" of anything is hysterical. You have no idea what happened behind the scenes, the numbers they signed or the priority they gave any specific player. You don't even know if they had commutable offers.

Whats hysterical is someone saying it could "never, ever, ever" happen, when it already has. You said NEVER could happen, so even if I cherry pick 1 guy it proves you wrong.

And the whole "we actually want" tag is bs, its just giving you an out in case it does happen.

I think its unlikely, specially if CMR wins and Strong flops, but the notion that we are big bad Miami and we could never lose a guy to USF now that the greatest coach ever is here is delusional imo.

We could "actually" want a LB right now and that LB be from Tamps and pick USF because he doesnt want to wait behind our freshman studs. It could happen that easily, even with CMR.

Yup...and what has that got us lately? Look at the losses over the last decade, look at the pathetic names of UVA, Duke, Louisville, USF, GT etc etc... being the M F'King U doesnt mean shit if you dont win, having the U on the helmet doesnt guarantee wins.

Any linebacker we really want that doesn't sign with us will sign with a top flight Power 5 team before USF about 100% of the time.

DeeJay Dallas ‏@Deejaydallas5 1h1 hour ago

Corner ... receiver....maybe both 😈

UMike

Again, you guys sound like Lurker with the "never, ever ever" or "100%".. none of us know for sure.

If a LB from the Tampa area wants to stay close, Strong and USF are winning games and he could start right away...a kid may be inclined to stay with USF and show out for his home team. All Im saying is it COULD happen... COULD.

UMike

Ohio.. I thought I read before the coaches told him he could play both

I don't care about lately. This was BEFORE MARK RICHT. Nothing prior to December 2015 matters any more for our future. Golden doesn't run this ship any more.

That option is there to play both, but Dallas said they're keeping it a secret of which he'll start out at so they don't give away which position they're recruting the hardest because we're very quietly on a couple kids committed elsewhere.

Matt Miller ‏@nfldraftscout 18m18 minutes ago

While his decision isn't final, I'm told QB Brad Kaaya is "leaning" toward declaring for the draft.

So basically, no one actually knows which way he's leaning. Because that's the opposite of yesterday.

trianglecane

I appreciate Ohio and Go for keeping up the fight.

Doesn't matter who comes into the neighborhood Charlie... Lane.. Patton.. ALEXANDER THE GREAT... I give two ducks. I will appreciate the guys that come and forget those who chose not to.

I believe this staff will develop and win.

I also believe that this staff is probably dragging 20% of the players who have not bought in.

I am not against those with opposing views, just encouraging those who believe in the U like me.

GO CANES!!

Ohio_Cane

Perry, Weldon, Allison. Which will be Miami's starter in 2017 if Kaaya leaves?

My money on Allison.

Ummmm we went 8-4, 4 straight losses, terrible play calling, didnt make it conference game... again...so again the U didnt mean anything!... Having said that, we finished great and looked like we made adjustments, which was great to see. It proved CMR isnt the stubborn ass Golden was..

I'm going to drop out of the USF could get a recruit topic, its not going anywhere lol...

I would assume Allison, but I wouldnt be to excited about it.

Shocking! Lol

Go Canes!

Really hope we get one more year with Kaaya, if not Perry seems to be a pretty dynamic player.'

His high school numbers are definitely much more overwhelming than Allison's.

UMike

Come on now lol... you would be excited about a guy that couldn't be out Rosier? I mean, much rather have Kaaya coming back

UMike

Go, Perry looks awesome, Im not sold he will be college ready from day one. I think his ceiling is higher then Allisons though.

UMike

Either way, I think we would miss Kaaya next year... a lot

Terrance Sullivan

Just win the damn Russell Athletic Bowl Game. That is all!

Ohio_Cane

Agree, Sully. A win there would go a long way for recruiting and how we start next season. A win gets us ranked to start next year IMO

UMike

Ohio, I definitely believe it will get us ranked going into next year

CaneRock

Webster & Barrington had "committable offers"...whatever dafuq that means.

Hell, Rudy from ITU rode all the way to J'ville thinking Barrington was gonna don a UM hat...remember that SOUP? LOL.

And that 09' class was overrated...the only DBs that somewhat panned out from that class were McGee & Armstrong. So yeah, Webster was a must get.

BEERicane

Kaaya decides to go, Jeudy will be a cane. He doesn't want to catch passes from that very average QB.

BEERicane

RayRay was the biggest bust of all time.

Ohio_Cane

More than Willie Williams?

Ohio_Cane

Tim Reynolds: To recap, Brad Kaaya is staying, or leaving, or maybe staying, or maybe leaving. Finally, we have clarity.

^^ Pretty much this....

UMike

Willie the biggest and not even close IMO...although when I watched Ray Ray play I thought he was a sure fire elite college player....but Willie the biggest bust

VA Cane

You never know what can happen in recruiting....and I see a lot of great kids playing...both here and from many of you who regularly add kids and film on here.

Those coaches are all good recruiters...but I do not care, We will not get every kid....and while we out duel smaller schools and others for kids....Do we beat Bama, OSU, OK, Clemson, FSU FL and other big players for kids on a regular basis? No we do not. I love Miami....but we are not the MF U anymore....that ended in 20003 for me....when you do not compete for NCs on a fairly regular basis...you really do not matter....we are a Top 30 team at best.....we have not battled near the top since 2003....we were #5....that aint #1....so does it matter? Not really. thats 13 years ago.

The U is a lost brand right now....kind of like the Oakland Raiders my other love. Yes we are hard core...but now were are ....the little u! We have not figured in the BCS or playoffs since 2003, we do not nail the great elite players, we do not capture kids imaginations like the old days....a lot of people do not really know our history....its dusty old and irrelevant.

GA wont a title in 1980...not CMR. 10 wins a year is nice....but he has no title that matters division? conference? who cares? If you are not #1 when the dust settles it means nothing. Dale Earnhardt said finish 2nd first to lose! I agree. Who cares if a guy averages 10 wins a year.....AVERAGE is the key. No title to hold up to me! Averaging 10 wins a year is nice...HOF....not really but that is my thought.

We have improved a lot of things....facilities, training table, diet, coaching staff greatly improved. While 8-4 is not bad for first year, had CMR really been spot on, and had a really good plan, and been open minded about what we were doing, we would be 11-1. I did not expect a title this year....we could not compete with any of the Top 4, and a lot of the other big teams would kill us as well. We are little u right now, but I do think we are on the right path. CMR needs to at least field a team made up of CMR recruits for the most part; AQlPa got a few good guys but let CMR have a shot with his guys. Then we will see what he is made of; can he win in the big time; GA never won a title so to me that is not big time.

When we win a NC we will be back. You have to be #1 to be successful to me; that is the goal.

BEERicane

Well, willie sure was a gigantic bust, but he didn't really play too much. RayRay played and stunk up the joint. He had one nice hit vs Murray, and gave up a ton of TDs.
