uh what do i think...

His Royal Dudeness

Two.

His Royal Dudeness

Every year there are so many stud defensive backs coming out of Miami. How is Miami's unit not the class of college football year in and out?

58 Straight

UM defensive coordinator Manny Diaz today articulated one of UM’s major pitches in recruiting:

"I think what we've shown is that the best players are going to play at the University of Miami," Diaz said. "If you are a legit guy and you are a big time player, no matter what school you are going to go to, there is going to be competition. And it is the silliest recruiting ploy there is, to say, ‘Well there is going to be somebody there that was told the same story a year ago in recruiting.’ If anything, we want players that want to come to Miami, to compete against the best. Now, does our current roster still have major depth holes? Yes, of course it does.

“And obviously the guys we are recruiting are aware of that. However, we would never want someone to come to this school that did want to compete for a starting job the minute they walked on campus. At the same time somebody who was wary about that; In my past the recruits that ask you too many questions about the depth chart, sometimes that is a red flag, because at the University of Miami the expectation is that we should have a great defensive personnel. That brings out the best in the guys that are here.”

I think in a way all these elite recruiters help, there will be no kid in FLA that goes unnoticed. If a guy like Butch offers a kid I would take a close look at him, the reality is is FAU or FIU are offering a kid and the Canes really go after him the decision is easy for the kid, UM.

All evidence to the contrary.

Posted by: Go Canes! | December 21, 2016 at 02

If he fails, lets examine The evidence:

Exhibit 1: Randy Shannon- Poor Head Coach w top 20 talent & horrible facilities.
Exhibit 2: Al Golden- Piss Poor Head Coach w top 20 talent & acceptable facilities.
Exhibit 3: CMR- Has Been Coach w top 20 talent & competitive facilities.***

The evidence would seem to suggest that coaching is the issue that can't be overcome.

Stats are for people who don't watch the games. I know you watch the games, and I know you understand the coaching/playing dynamic. Even if you don't like to criticize the coach, you know that he did not live up to the hype this year.

Go Canes...thats great and I am not trying to bash him, but again, he hadn't won his conference in a decade... and was fired. You pretty much said if CMR couldn't do it Miami is behind repair. This would imply that he is among the greatest coaches ever and no other coach is capable of turning Miami around lol

His last season at UGA (2015) he won 9 games, but lost both games against ranked teams. Dont go back to 2014 because it helps your argument better... 2015 was his last season smh

2014 was a pretty good year for CRM I agree. But he actually lose to a ranked South Carolina team.

Go Canes!t

Posted by: UMike | December 22, 2016 at 05:21 AM

U said earlier this year were never going to be anything other than a middle f the road team ever again anyway didn't you?

Either way I meant that more from a financial standpoint. Things are better here but 3-4 years from now we're still going to be paying $6-7 million for two coaches if he flops.

Tough to do that, go find another top flight coach willing to come someplace where four straight coaches, including a proven guy like CMR failed, then pay him too.

We ride or die with CMR, so I'm hoping he can continue his winning ways here.

Go Canes!t

UGA won their bowl game last year for their 10th win.

UMike

Did CMR coach them in the bowl game? I wasn't sure he did.

Go Canes!t

Posted by: UMike | December 22, 2016 at 06:49 AM

Not sure if he did, but if some people give Butch the credit for two entire seasons after he left think it's safe to give CMR credit for one game.

UMike

If the O can play like it did the last 4 games and the D can continue to do its thing and improve, shouldn't be any reason we cant take the Coastal every single year or at least come down to us and VT/UNC year in and year out.

UMike

If he didnt coach it, then he himself won 9 games...not sure how Butch came into the picture lol.... either way it doesnt matter.

I think he is an obvious upgrade from the last couple coaches, but as of this moment he hasn't done anything they haven't. Until he at least wins he Coastal he is no better AT MIAMI then Golden or RS. But I think he will

Herbieibis

We should easily had 10 wins this season had he been more aggressive in the play calling department. As for us winning those last 4 games, it's not like we played the whose, who of college football! We should win those games. We choked when we played the meat of our schedule. Now if we beat a 10 win wvu team, now that means something and maybe we might be turning the corner. So far, as the team goes, at this point the one good thing Richt has done was hire Diaz. What he did with those foul-ups is amazing. He got those guys to play, like I haven't seen in years. He took chances, threw caution to the wind and got results.
In the bowl we will be starting 3 second team o-linemen, as we have lost 3 starters for the year. Will see if Richt has learned anything by his play calling.

Go Canes!t

Posted by: ANGRY SOUP | December 22, 2016 at 08:43 AM

You're right. Believing some kind of medical miracle occurred where someone got adequate practice time and was ready to start a college game 4 1/2 months after reconstructive ACL surgery but wasn't allowed to shine because of Al Golden's super secret "agenda" is a much more objective position to take.

Last time I saw a story this tragic Uncle Rico was betting me he could throw a football over those mountains.

Mark Walton, in every way, the No. 1 back for Miami Hurricanes in 2016

He was named team MVP at the awards banquet and had the team’s top highlight play, a 55-yard touchdown run against Pittsburgh in which he broke a tackle two yards behind the line of scrimmage and then made four more players miss on the way to the end zone.

As good as that was, it wasn’t Mark Walton‘s best run of the year.

That, as his teammates and coaches agreed this week, would be his ridiculous 45-yard dash against Florida State that was negated on a Tyree St. Louis holding penalty away from the play. Walton weaved his way through traffic, spun his way out of a tackle, somehow kept his balance despite being nearly horizontal, and crossed the goal line.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Revenues are going to keep increasing with the ACC network, and ticket sales this year proved that people will go to games if the product is good.

BTW... what's your definition of success? National ships shouldn't be the measuring stick IMO. I think he's got to be in the ACC CG more often than not. If he can't turn us into the class of the coastal, he isn't doing his job.

Meanwhile, Williams, who earned his undergraduate degree in December in sports administration, has been rehabilitating his knee daily and still has a goal of returning for the September 20 Nebraska game.

"I can't believe how fast he's bounced back,'' Jayne Williams, his mother, told the Herald today. "He was driving and off his crutches two weeks to the day of his surgery (which was Wednesday, May 9).

"His spirits are unbelievable and he has such a great mindset. We were in New Orleans a month ago and we were in the French Quarter and he was walking around for hours. He said he's not in pain. He's doing fabulously.''

WWIN

So at that point we would be 2-1 with the meat of our schedule left... he would have had 9 games to play... that's pretty much a whole season

Go Canes!

Posted by: Devil's Advocate (WWIN) | December 22, 2016 at 11:02 AM

I know when he had the operation and when the season started and there is no way he was going to have surgery April 9th and be able to start a football game on September 1st, four months and 20 days later.

That means he would have had to start practicing 90-100 days after a reconstructive ACL surgery.

Does that seem possible to you?

Here are the strengths and weaknesses for each:

Charlie Strong:
Pros: Excellent recruiter. Would be brazen in his recruiting of top-tier talent and play hard to get. Many elite level players actually liked it. Inherits a program on the upswing (2014: 4-8, 2015: 8-5, 2016: 10-2)
Negatives: Has not proven that he can win without a first round NFL quarterback. Was under .500 in three years at an elite program, despite having a strong degree of talent in his final year. Will not hesitate - to the detriment of the team - to delete players from the team if they are troublemakers. Charlie kicked 9 players off the team in 2014, leaving Texas razor thin at depth in the offensive line. He's also recruiting for a non-Power 5 school, making his challenges more difficult

Butch Davis
Strengths: Top-level recruiter and evaluator of talent. Exposure to current high school players as an ESPN commentator and featured on the second U documentary.
Weaknesses: Age (65) will be used against him. Takes over a near dumpster fire of a program. His chief strength - recruiting - is blunted by the fact that his new school is a non-Power 5 program

Lane Kiffin
Strengths: Strong recruiter, well known by current recruits due to his time as Alabama's OC. Still quite young. Takes over a college with a cool little football stadium on the water, and a school that should be a potential candidate for Big 12 expansion.
Negatives: Quite a few. He's been more nomadic in the last ten years than most coaches (Raiders, Tennessee, USC, Alabama). USC not only fired him, but thought so little of him that they literally left him on the side of the road and drove off. Whatever happens in the future, FAU is not a Power 5 school presently, and he'll struggle to attract more than a handful of 3 and 4 star players on an annual basis.

Good comparison TD.

Someone posted a link with highlights of WVU's offense last night. They looked good against teams you can tell had overall slower team defenses than ours.

Then looked at some highlights against teams with much better overall talent defensively and they were pretty much neutralized.

Think with the amount of time we've had to practice and heal in preparation for them, Diaz should have a solid game plan to stop them.

So I guess as has been the case all season, we are going to need CMR and BK to start and stay aggressive all game long to win this thing.

Kaaya protects the ball far better then Eli.

Kaaya is alot closer to no one lol

Honestly It would take 2-3 other guys to add up exactly to Kaaya, no one is super close to him.

He has a weird style with a + arm but uses touch ALOT. Many guys with a good college arm try to arm everything in there, Kaaya rarely does. Also Kaaya is purported to be a smart QB but honestly he does misread the defense a fair amount and he also locks in on 1 WR before the snap often times. Of course he is not very mobile but many of the Immobile QB's have huge arms they that use often times too much. Kaaya had a good arm but he does not show it off too much. Kaaya has a lot of room to get better though. His footwork, his size, his ability to read a defense. Another year of college will really help him in all areas.

Nkoku is gone but his bro is going to be pretty good.

Side note if you are an elite TE why on earth do you NOT come to UM? We have put out elite TE's year after year. We have have different systems different coaching staff's and we still keep cranking out TE's.
