UMike

Good pick up, but he is NOT a 5-Star... might not even be the best RB on his team this past year. Fast kid, but not an elite RB.

CaneRock

UMike, interesting you say He's not the best RB on His team. Watching His HLs, He plays FB in a Wing-T offense, and usually the HB and/or WB is the most athletic RB in that offense. Not familiar with His team, but sheez, if He's not the best RB on His team, who is???

And I think He's elite BTW.

TonyCane

I think the halfback was Denarius Mcfivestarrus, who committed to Saban when he was a only a freshman.

Wrong - this kid plays in Fran and I's backyard (Orange City), I have seen him play a few games and the kid is a beast. He even visits the gym I go to once in a while. I will keep pushing him towards the U all year long.

UMike

He will be a 4-Star by NSD, unless he flips of course

CaneRock

Physically, He reminds me of Bobby Washington.

86Cane

Also, 2020 5-star ATH Avantae Williams who also committed - is Lingards cousin.

Now that IS interesting.

So a kid that had to share carries with 2 other backs is a 5-Star?

I think Duke was our latest and highest rated skill player. But your point of him being one of the top skill players is true, that boi good.

Also, 2020 5-star ATH Avantae Williams who also committed - is Lingards cousin.

UMike

We could sign a 1-Star RB and you would think he has tremendous upside and would be a 4-star if committed to Bama and our staff is the greatest at finding hidden gems.

Go Canes!

If he did this would:

He was an Orlando Sentinel All-Central Florida Football Team selection after averaging 10.9 yards per carry and totaling 1,418 yards and 22 touchdowns this past season. He is rated the 15th best player in the nation by 247Sports.com and the site ranks him the second best running back prospect in the 2018 class.

Are U talking about Lingard? If so, stop trolling.

Doing that in class 8A Florida high school football is pretty impressive.

UMike...feeling gnarly this AM? LOL

Man... i couldn't get over on my boy Ohio...but Go took it hook, line and sinker hahaha

Man, this is a great pick-up!! Truly hope he shuts down his recruitment

I know U too well, UMike. I assumed 2 things: Trolling or drunk. LOL

Ohio_Cane

“Coach (Thomas) Brown and Lo really hit it off,” Roberts said. “Coach Brown is one of the coaches I’ve been most impressed with throughout this whole process. You can tell he has the best interest in mind for Lo. I thought he would commit a little later, but he’s not a kid that likes to play the recruiting process. That’s my favorite thing about him - it’s not `here’s my top 10, my top seven, my top five.’ He’s been leaning that way, was just ready.”

Well played Sir!!

Got a heck of a laugh out of that one!

UMike

We just talked about the need for Brown to hit on this one and it appears he did. If we can go win 10 games we should have a top 5 class. I know I have said that for a few years now, I just need CMR to help me out!

Ohio_Cane

Just go watch, and smile: http://www.hudl.com/profile/4531141/lorenzo-lingard

^^ Loves to poke the badger .... LOL. Would be great if he did but highly unlikely.

UMike

He sure is smooth, could be our D. Cook. If Burns can get healthy (big if) and he sticks...add Homer and that is one hell of a backfield. We should also get the RB from CC

Canespace brothers good morning!
Great pickup on this kid....
Does anyone know anything about a kid named Chris Curry?
Looks like Marshawn Lynch. ...nick chubb kinda?
Just curious. ..
God bless you and Go Canes!

Ohio_Cane

Curry is a good RB, but it appears we're on much higher rated guys, like Lingard and Camron Davis. I believe we're taking 2 this cycle. Possibly 3.

raizecane

Funny but true story about University High where Lingard attends. When they built the football stadium, they built the track to close to the football field and deemed it unusable so University played the 'away" games at Deltona High (where my kids graduated). To this day, I still think they use our field.

TonyCane

I do wonder when we will nab our next five star player. Those pickups seem to be lagging indicators of success or failure. For a long time we lived off of the hope and fumes of the early 2000s and pulled in a handful of five star players. Now I think Richt needs another year or two to reestablish credibility after the Golden regime to prove that Miami is worth the attention of the most elite recruits.

UMike

Duke, Howard, Thomas, Henderson...we have had some 5-Stars sprinkled in, but not every class and usually never 2.

RCCF

Mike Rumph Haters....

He is the 3rd Highest Ranked Coach Recruiting Wise for 2018. Per 24/7sports .... Hate On

UMike

So a whole week into the 2018 class and we need to praise him and for it while forgetting all HIS guys he couldn't bring to Miami?

I think the vast majority of HS coaches that move to college take players with them. Local coaches went to Michigan and WVU and took their players, no reason Miami fans shouldn't of expected the same from Rumph

Ohio_Cane

Michigan isn't a fair comparison. He took his SON with him. Package deal. Kid comes, U get a job.

We didn't hire Rumph for that purpose.

RCCF

Yall are Totally unfair to Rumph and how about maybe we don't want all the kids he had ties to or here's a better one, maybe their grades stink? Give the guy a chance ....

Go Canes!

They weren't his kids, they were Heritage kids.

The only reason Bush and the other ones ended up in Michigan is because the head coach sold them as a package deal.

I know that to be 100% true.

UMike

Go and Ohio..Im not disagreeing with you, and not trying to hate on Rumph, but typically when a head coach or coordinator gets a college job a couple of recruits follow. WVU took Miramir kids for a couple seasons. Miami got kids with help from Beaz. And yes, IMO they were HIS kids if he was the head coach.

I myself havent been critical of Rumph, but I can understand those that have.

Go Canes!

Canes have three 5 Stars committed over the next two classe.

Hassan

Lingard is a 10.80 guy and ran a 7.02 60M a couple weeks back as an early season time.

he has a PR of 22.20 in the 200M

to compare Mcgahee ran a 6.90 60 M in college and D Cook ran a 10.8 100 M and a 22.10 200M

This kid compares favorably as he is still building speed and strength

.

Hassan

BTW Duke Johnson's best time unaided are 10.81 & 22.31 he ran a 6.92 60M while in college.

Go Canes!

This kid compares favorably as he is still building speed and strength.

Posted by: Hassan | February 10, 2017 at 11:32 AM

Great point. Just imagine what he'll do with NCAA-Olympic caliber coaching.

CaneRock

You can give Rumph the BOTD, and say He stunk it up this year at the same time...the 2 don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Ditto with Brown, but He's making up ground with Lingard.

Ohio_Cane

Rumph was key in getting Kai-Leon Herbert. So were others, but he played a role.

CaneRock

Davis is alright & all, but I'd rather flip Cook. No rule that states a 5X National Champion can't land 2 elite RBs in the same year. Time for FSU to get our leftovers for a change.

Ohio_Cane

Don't want Cook. He's talented, but others I'd rather have. Did U know Lingard is 1 year and 9 months younger than Cook? Cook's almost 19.

The Dude

Thanks for taking the bait! You saved some other fish, haha.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 10, 2017 at 12:43 PM

I remember people saying this about Ridley, lol. So what? If the kid can play, the kid can play. Age wasnt a knock on Dean.

Ohio_Cane

The point is, physically he's much more mature at almost 19 years old than Lingard at 17. I still think he's riding the coattails of the last name he has and people assuming he's going to be Dalvin. He's not.

Like I said, talented, sure. Let him go to FSU, imo

Go Canes!

CR I think based on the position it matters some. Less than at WR and corner.

But your point is absolutely valid.

Cook is Dalvin's younger brother?

Man that seems like an impossibly tough flip.

Hassan

Jobe is almost 19 as well. Lingard also has low mileage on him as he shared the rock with 2 other RB's.

we have some good RB's a couple will play in the NFL (Walton, Edwards) but none of them have a ceiling as high as Lingard's.

if Njoku grows in a TE the way his bro did how will teams stop us with Thomas, Harley, Richards and Lingard? #Speedkills.

The Dude

Posted by: Hassan | February 10, 2017 at 01:09 PM

Every RB should demand to share the rock in HS, CF and the NFL. If I were a 4 or 5 star RB, or the parent of one, I'd demand that the school takes more than 1 elite RB.

The Dude

Posted by: Hassan | February 10, 2017 at 01:09 PM

The idea of Njoku growing into TE you say? Interesting... 🤔

1mg Of epi

Mike... get off the Rumph hate train. He is proving to be an excellent coach. As that reputation grows, so will his recruiting prowess. Also, McFarland was dropped because he's a whiny quitter.. Rumph didn't lose him.

^^^ Although I still dont buy that.

NicKane

Lingard is the most talented back we've had since Frank Gore. Period! Frank was last guy that we had that had the same trifecta of speed, power and size. Duke at the speed but it the size or power to a lesser degree. This kid is our program changer that can win a home all by himself like D cook did against us the last three years. So excited for this kid, so excited!

In case U didn't know: 2018 CB commit Gilbert Frierson is Frank Gore's cousin. Legacy kid we should keep easily.

Hassan

Gore had a game with 319 yards on 13 carries in HS against #3 team in the country and score 6 times. that dude was the truth

Go Canes!

This is incredible too. Could have and should have been the greatest we've ever me had:

Gore totaled 820 yards with twelve touchdowns on 62 carries (a 9.3-yard avg) as a backup to Clinton Portis on Miami's 2001 National championship winning team.

We didn't drop Henderson.

Story (paraphrased): Henderson got to the USA game and found out he wasn't starting. Ripped his pads off and told them he wasn't playing. They calmed him down and he played, but Rumph found out about it.

When he got home, Rumph called him and bitched at him and said something along the lines of "We don't act like that at Miami, don't ever do that again". He didn't like it, so he flipped to UF (was coming to UM until this convo).

Bandy tried to play the mediator between the 2, but Henderson didn't like how Rumph told him he shouldn't act like that, so he went to UF.

The Dude

^^^ that sounds more correct to me.

The difference is, Rumph scolded him over the phone. Henderson now has the opportunity to be berated in front of the entire country by another coach.

Herbieibis

If that's the case, he wanted to go to the Gators anyway.

BigWindyCane1

I'm going to venture a guess someone came looking for him.

Massive keep for us if that was the case.

Kuligowski Promoted to Assistant Head Coach

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head coach Mark Richt announced Friday that Craig Kuligowski has been promoted to Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Line.

Kuligowski, who joined the Hurricanes’ staff last season after 15 years at the University of Missouri, will continue to coach Miami’s defensive line.

“Craig did an outstanding job last season working with our defensive line,” Richt said. “He’s a terrific motivator and a great teacher.”

Miami’s defensive line showed vast improvement under Kuligowski’s guidance in 2016. The Hurricanes ranked 20th nationally in total defense, fifth in tackles for loss and 22nd in sacks. In addition, Kuligowski’s defensive line scheme helped limit opponents to just 4.75 yards per play, a figure which ranked ninth in the nation. Miami ranked 86th in the country in yards per play allowed in 2015.

BigWindyCane1

Hassan,
I really liked Frank Gore as a high school running back. Gore was the best I have seen. Gore was faster before the knee injuries and he was powerful with a low center of gravity. More important, Gore had incredible vision for a runner. Gore could see creases in the defense and hit openings like no running back I have ever seen at any level.

86Cane

Gore had a game with 319 yards on 13 carries in HS against #3 team in the country and score 6 times. that dude was the truth

The Dude

Miami is finally taking my advice. Give that defensive staff whatever they want!

The Dude

^^^ and I had Richt in my top 4 I believe for coach hire. A lot of people didnt want that hire at the time but so far I think its been great.

TruCane81

Only question.

Can Coach Richt take the next step?

The Dude

Posted by: TruCane81 | February 11, 2017 at 01:37 AM

The only step left for him is playing in a title game...

I think he can get Miami into the playoffs, after that who knows. To get there it will take 2 more years of building his team and cultivating his staff into a football factory. After year one I can say we are on some kind of track to get there. Im not confident that Richt can win a title as the OC though. Its too hard to manage both roles I think. First step is Coastal champs. If the offense does its part, we're in.

The Dude

Crazy to think that Miami's D has turned around so quickly. The front 7 is top 5. The scheme is good, the athletes are tremendous. Probably all of the starting front 7 are drafted. The secondary being a weakness wont last long with all the talent in SoFL. Its good to be back somewhere! If the QB can just plug right in and be consistant, we win the Coastal. He doesnt have to be better than Kaaya, just more steady.

If Miami wins the Coastal next year, its realistic to say we will keep on doing it year in and out. This last cycle of recruiting actually made the team better, no hype this time. A bunch of freshman dont have to play right away, they can just learn. Seriously football can not come soon enough.

The Dude

Dugans wants Richards at 205-210. Kid will be a freak show.

The Dude

Blu likes Gaynor a lot. From what Ive seen of the kid he's just got that mean streak in him that everyone feeds off of. He could be the kind of fired up leader the O needs.

The Dude

Avantae Williams will be a 5 star S. If he sticks, he'll be our best safety since Merriweather.

The Dude

Is Al Blades a given for 2018? If so, he's not a CB.

Bennie
