This Canes defense is going to be real, real nasty. This should be one of the top defenses in the country. It all starts up front with Coach Kul and the gang. Coach Kul knows how to recruit, develop and coach defensive linemen.

I doubt if the Canes opponents could reach 14 points in a game. Throw in some turnovers, and the Canes can afford to allow the offense to develop slowly.

A strong Canes running game and some big plays over the top should be a formula to the biggest season in over a decade.

Long way from being in Shakey's shadow.

Dude

I was hoping most of my banned comments would get posted.

Now wheres that article I found...

Dude

Al Blades
The momentum building around Miami is no secret. The Hurricanes’ commitment list is stacked and the success seems to be compounding. Top players at Sunday’s event almost all mentioned UM, as Al Blades led a long list of elite prospects that talked up the Canes.

Blades will likely land at Miami, but wide receiver Elijah Moore was also high on the program during the event. Moore landed an invite to the Rivals Five-Star Challenge with a solid performance.

A Hurricane commit stole the show on Sunday, as offensive lineman Delone Scaifie was the day’s most dominant prospect at any position. Scaifie won the MVP award so easily that he stood up to accept his trophy moments before his name was even called. It was a great day for Miami, as everything seemed to come up orange and green.

^^^ From Rivals. I told you guys Scaifie is a monster.

Ohio_Cane

Scaife

Dude

Tyson Campbell & Al Blades to finish off the DB class and I will call that perfection. Surtain Jr. is SEC bound, a great talent, but not any better than Campbell imo. Jobe and Frierson are outstanding prospect as are Hall and Russell. The other local kid is Samuel Jr. who is probably the best cover kid in SoFL, no one can seem to shake the kid, but he's not very tall and it looks like he's not coming to Miami.

Dude

Scaife

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | March 31, 2017 at 03:03 PM

Correct, sorry I let that snip of the articlr fool me. But is it pronounced Skayf or Skayfee?

Dude

I have probably watch more of Al Blades than any other kid this year because I think he's overrated at CB. 4* seems a bit high. I think he needs to move to S because his man skills are questionable. His zone is pretty solid and when the ball is in his area, he's good at getting a hand on it. The problem with moving to S is that he's not a hitter.

Dude

I knew I was blocked when I couldnt drunk post from 2 to 4 in the morning.

Dude

Blades has good speed I should say too.

Dude

Peter Ariz on his podcast was talking about how the staff has worked super hard to make Miami the it place and to sell kids on Miami being the natural bext step, and then being relentless in recruiting. He said some of the old staff were too lazy thinking a kid would come to Miami because he's local. I dont know how much of that last part I buy, but the first part I can see for sure. In fact its one of those things Ive said we need to do before. Pete Carroll at USC made the school the program of Hollywood, the cool place. Richt is bringing that calm, coolness of his to the program. If we get to where the offense is fun as hell, Miami will be the it school of the south again.

AfriCane

Actually 86, I thought the last round of politics blogging 2 posts ago were not bad. And it can be achieved with good supervision. But, in general, I understand the reason for your policy.

Ohio_Cane

But is it pronounced Skayf or Skayfee?

Posted by: Dude | March 31, 2017 at 03:08 PM
------------------------------------

Skayf

Terrance Sullivan

The Dude what is this Hollywood that You speak of. It's called Los Angeles. That's just as bad when someone says South Beach instead of saying Miami lol.

Dude

Thats my point TS,

Carroll put it in everyone's mind, especially the HS recruits. He had movie stars and a fun vibe on campus, he made it the IT school of the west coast. Its exactly what the Hurricanes are trying to do.

Dude

Miami should tout South Beach as theirs. It certainly isnt Alabama's.

Dude

O_C,

You think we get Tyson Campbell?

Who else are we targeting? We need 2 LB, 2 DL, 2 OL, 1 TE and then we can be done.

Dude

I see a bunch of people are thinking **** OG Curtis Dunlap is going to pick Miami. He's another kid out of IMG and is 6'5" 360+.

Dude

Lakeland's 4* OT Cleveland Reed is favored by some to pick Miami. 6'4" 300 kid. Much more polished than Dunlap in my opinion, but Dunlap is a WIDE load.

Dude

Basically, what Im trying to say is that this class could end up with three 4* OL, because Scaife is going to blow up this year.

Go Canes!

I've been to South Beach, I've been to Hollywood and Hollywood you're no South Beach.

Terrance Sullivan

I know the Dude just poking you in the ribs brother.

TonyCane

That's one thing that I do not buy about the previous staff...you cannot say that they were lazy in recruiting. Golden and crew hit recruiting pretty hard. Better than Coker or probably Shannon. CM RIcht however is a great recruiter with a long track record of success.

IF U LIKE TO RUN...

The University of Miami track and field program continued its successful showing Friday at the 2017 Pepsi Florida Relays.

The Hurricanes had several student-athletes post times and marks that rank among the best in Miami track and field history.

"We competed well today," MIami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said. "I have challenged the team to make improvements each week and I believe in most event areas we are doing that."

Shakima Wimbley won the women’s 400m with a time of 52.05 seconds, while Brittny Ellis finished 14th overall with a time of 53.91 seconds. Henri Delauze was Miami’s top male finisher in the 400m with a time of 47.88 seconds.

Ebony Morrison ran a season-best time of 13.09 seconds to place eighth overall in the women’s college 100m hurdles, while Stefani Kerrison finished 20th overall with a time of 13.47 seconds.

McKinly Brown excelled in the men’s college 400m hurdles, finishing eighth with a personal-best time of 51.76 seconds that ranks third all-time in UM history. Anna Runia also impressed in the women’s college 400m hurdles, running a personal-best time of 58.61 seconds to place seventh overall.

IF U LIKE TO ROW...

The University of Miami rowing team earned a victory on the opening day of competition at the Sunshine State Invitational.

The Hurricanes had five boats in action in the two-day regatta at Nathan Benderson Park, which will host the 2018 NCAA Rowing Championship. The field featured four Florida squads in Miami, UCF, Jacksonville and Stetson. Alabama, Kansas State, North Carolina and Tulsa also lined up on the water.

“We saw some great racing today from some of our boats,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. The 2V took the day, winning their race in an incredibly close three-boat race all the way down the course. I’m extremely proud of how they raced. The 1V and novice 8 also had strong races and will look to improve tomorrow.”

Miami’s 2V8+ was the top finisher of the five Hurricane boats in action, earning a victory in their first race of the weekend with a time of 6:51.5. The Canes’ 2V8+ finished ahead of Kansas State, UCF, North Carolina, Alabama, Jacksonville, Stetson and Tulsa.

The Hurricanes’ varsity 8 also has a solid showing in its first race of the weekend, finishing fourth with a time of 6:41.2. Miami just missed the top three in its event on Friday, finishing behind UCF, Tulsa and Alabama.

Miami’s varsity 4 finished seventh with a time of 8:03.5, while the 2V4+ was eighth in its race with a time of 8:04.9. The Hurricanes’ novice 8+ placed seventh with a time of 7:33.03.

Following this weekend’s action at the Sunshine State Invitational, the Canes will head to New Jersey to race at the Knecht Cup on April 8-9. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.

IF U LIKE TO PLAY TENNIS...

The University of Miami women’s tennis team recorded a 5-2 road win at Florida Atlantic Friday afternoon.

Despite playing without junior Sinead Lohan, ranked No. 11 nationally in singles, No. 45 Miami turned in a dominant performance at the FAU Tennis Complex to move to 29-0 all-time against the Owls.

“I think as far as the coaching staff is concerned, we know how good we could be and we know the talent we have,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “Obviously, I think losing takes a toll on the players emotionally, but we’ve never been a program that has really, truly focused on the wins and losses. We’re seeing it a little bit from a different side this season, but we’re trying to stay positive, we’re trying to stay up and we’re trying to end the season strong.”

Florida Atlantic (11-9, 1-0 C-USA) earned the first win in doubles, as Laura Fabrizi and Ana Gutierrez downed sophomore Ana Madcur and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba, 6-3.

Freshman Sara Culbertson and junior Silvia Fuentes then evened the tally by posting a 6-3 victory against Lyndsey Boos and Marisa Ruiz. Just seconds later, redshirt senior Maci Epstein and freshman Dominika Paterova sealed the doubles point for the Hurricanes with a 6-3 triumph over Alisa Rudenko and Heather Walton.

For Culbertson, the win was her first in doubles dual match play, while Paterova’s served as her first in spring doubles competition.

Paterova continued her strong play into singles, rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Boos to double Miami’s lead. It marked the first win of her career at the No. 2 singles position.

No. 33 Perez-Somarriba increased the Hurricanes’ advantage to 3-0 by taking down Gutierrez, 6-1, 6-4.

Just as she did with the doubles point, Epstein then clinched the overall match for Miami (5-9, 3-5 ACC) by posting a straight-set win of her own, as she topped Rudenko, 6-2, 6-2.

IF U HATE LOSING...DON'T WATCH UM BASEBALL!

Miami received an impressive start on the hill from junior right hander Jesse Lepore but fell to visiting Wake Forest, 2-1, Friday night in the opener of an eight-game home stand.

Lepore (1-4) delivered six strong innings against one of the ACC’s best offenses, and Miami out-hit the Demon Deacons 7-2, but the Hurricanes left nine runners on base in the defeat.

It was Wake Forest (20-7, 7-3 ACC) who struck first Friday night, as a bloop single from Keegan Maronpot dropped in the outfield to score a pair of runs in the second inning.

The single, which glanced off the glove of a diving Carl Chester in center, was the only hit allowed by Lepore on the night.

Though he issued a career high-tying five walks, Lepore struck out four batters across 103 pitches, the most thrown in any of his starts this season.

The Hurricanes halved the deficit in the bottom of the third on an RBI double from junior hitter James Davison.

With redshirt senior Edgar Michelangeli on second after a bunt single and throwing error, Davison cranked a pitch from Wake Forest starter Parker Dunshee to right field for the first double of his career.

Davison recorded his fourth multi-hit game of the season in the loss, finishing 2-for-5 with a stolen base.

Dunshee (5-1) allowed at least one Hurricane to reach base in six of seven innings. Miami put two runners on in the fifth when Davison reached on a bunt single and senior Johnny Ruiz drew a walk, but Dunshee retired Chester on a flyout to right field to end the threat and keep his team ahead.

The walk extended Ruiz' streak of reaching base safely to 20 straight games in front of 2,844 fans.

Dunshee struck out nine batters in seven innings. He scattered six hits with one walk across 105 pitches before being relieved by Griffin Roberts to start the eighth inning.

Sophomore Andrew Cabezas entered in the seventh in relief of Lepore and turned in a dominant showing. The righthander retired all six Demon Deacons batters he faced, including the first five via strikeout, which tied a career high.

The Hurricanes (11-15, 4-6 ACC) threatened to tie the game in the eighth when sophomore Romy Gonzalez opened with a single and Miami found itself with runners on the corners after junior Brandon Gali was hit by a pitch. But Roberts struck out Barry Buchowski to strand a pair of runners.

I dont think they were lazy at all. And they had an okay eye for under the radar guys, which they had to, because not many elite players wanted to come to Miami and lose bunches of games, playing in that soft defense. Richt just runs a better program, he's totally comfortable in his skin at Miami, he's also not trying to push square pegs through round holes, not just schemes, but culture too.

Dude

AG was right about some things at Miami, just look a Elder, many of us thought RB, but the kid is off to the pros as a CB. I think AG played the whole cloud thing up too, so he could get more guarantees from The U, it ultimately hurt him back in recruiting. But the biggest thing that kept AG from success at Miami was he didnt hire killer assistants.

Coastal Carolina University suspended its cheerleading team pending a conduct investigation.

According to a report from WMBF News, the university received an anonymous letter accusing cheerleaders of a "long list of" malfeasances including prostitution.

A cheerleader who spoke on the condition of anonymity said an investigator with the CCU Department of Public Safety came to their practice Wednesday night. The cheerleader said the investigator explained to the team an anonymous letter was mailed to school president David DeCenzo on March 7 alleging that team members were involved in "a long list of things," including prostitution, purchasing alcohol for underage team members, and paying others to complete their homework assignments.

I won’t say what, because I don’t really have permission from [trainer] Vinny [Scavo] or family on that. If they want to say something they can. But he got an injury. Just not sure how severe yet. Within a few days we’ll know exactly what it is and what we’re going to do about it. But he was out because of an injury.”

Wow! This is how you win championships! Obviously, you have an extraordinary athlete Richards with the ball, but the hustle and determination of Walton to Obliterate that DB is that extra effort that will make a difference between being a good ACC team and being a ACC champion.

Your offensive MVP busts his tail so he can make a block 40 yards downfield with enthusiasm and help boost other players stats and help the team win. All of his teammates will play FOR and WITH Walton!
