Old Skool

F*** all the other state schools.
FSU, UF, USF, UCF, UNF, UWF, FIU, FAU, FPU, FAMU, FGCU and BCU.

1mg Of epi

FPU? What the hell fpu?

Old Skool

Florida PolyTechnic University in Lakeland. It's the state's newest university. Probably a triumph of local legislators with an agenda over logic. USF is just over 30 miles away. Likely should have been a branch campus.

Old Skool

Happy St. Paddy's. May Cane green beat Spartan green.

raizecane

Old Skool full of rage this morning. I cant hate on UNF as my oldest graduated there and they have no football team. I am torn on UCF where my other daughter is currently attending....

Alex D

Bethune Cookman Univ is not a state school; maybe New College of Florida (NCF). What the state could consider is adding another directional school; East Florida Univ (ECF), maybe somewhere between St. Augustine and Palm Beach. Just trying to drop some knowledge.

Alex D

Sorry, meant to say (EFU).

Go Canes!

F*** FPL!!

Just because I'm still annoyed I was without power for 13 days after Wilma.

CaneRock

FYI, Game's on TBS @ 9:20 tonight.

Our Lady Canes play tomorrow on ESPN2 @ 4:00.

Ohio_Cane

Please Jaquan, don't turn the ball over tonight. Please.

Seems like there's more scam artists out there now more than ever. Society ain't $h!t no mo'.

Old Skool

Nahh not full of rage. Just thinking how many state schools we have now. If I was truly pissed off and had money, I set up a scholarship fund for the Ringling Brother Clown College in Al Golden's name.
Alas RBBBCC has honked its last horn.

Here's a nice boondoggle. The Florida House voted to award $2 million in annual tax credits to the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine for the next six years. The place hasn't reached its promised attendance goals for the past 10 years.

CaneRock

Watching CNBC...Snapchat's up, Twitter's down...that's all I got for you.

Tams

Nervous already. I hope Newton has his head out of his ass. Just play a competitive game without a boatload of turnovers.

Kids have over achieved considering I thought NIT would be a tough ticket this year. But now that we're in, let's give it a go and give em hell.

Everything ain't meant to be run like a business. That's why Folden failed, He tried to run the football team like a business, instead of like a football team. If they wanted to run the football team like a business, we should've hired a damn accountant.

86Cane

Hello? Score update?

CoCane

Ok...

Coach L is a good coach. We know this. He isn't too good to get checked though...

3 tourny appearances at the "U". Each time he his team has been eliminated by a blow out.

The honeymoon is over. Coach L needs to prepare his teams better for the big dance. They look scared, tight and completely unfocused. 3 different teams. The same result. This loss was embarrassing. Our Seniors looked like frosh against frosh...

Next years team will be his most talented ever. Elite 8 or bust...

CoCane

Soup,

MSU 78 - the "U" 58

Tams

Well, that was ugly.

Congrats to the boys for over achieving during a rebuild year.
The chemistry for this group never happened but we did have some nice wins.

Thank you Canes basketball for giving us Canes fans some big time NCAA action to root for after the bowl season!!

On to next year!

#WEAK

Go Canes!

Said it before the tourney, Sparty was the absolute worst first round matchup we could have seen.

Izzo is as good or better than Self, Williams or Coach K. He gets deep into the tourney nearly every year regardless of his talent level.

Agree this team was too inconistent this year, but inexperience and a kid who seemed to lack leadership in Newton make it even tougher to get to that point.

As far as Coach L goes, this loss wasnt unexpected for me and last year they did get blown out by Villanova, but the Cats did that to EVERYONE except UNC in the title game.

Good, not great season.

On to spring football.

TonyCane

I recall when it was an accomplishment just to get to the NIT. And then getting to the NCAA tournament for the first time. Coach L has Miami now consistently in post season play. That's a big step up and you have to be pleased with the overall momentum that U basketball has on a macro level.

Hassan

Newton kills the team, he is not very talented to me. He is small, not explosive, not a great shooter. Defends only sometimes and totally kills team chemistry. I would have played Brown 40 minutes, the only people who should have been shooting 3's Reed and Dejan. Our team played lethargic. Newton is an Energy black hole. he sucks the life out of this team everytime he plays.

BEERicane

Newton is back for another year which sucks. Miami will be a threat in 2 years. Hopefully next yr, but with that team killer JN around, I fear they won't reach their potential. Coach L should have kept Newton on the bench after suspension. It was clear they were significantly better without him. And the decision to put him back on the court is on coach L 100%. Our only hope is Newton screws up enough to get kicked off the team, cuz coach L is loyal to the bum.

Ohio_Cane

I'm very curious to hear OGV's thoughts on this season and the next season upcoming for the bball team.

Alex D

What's good Legion/Canespace? Very disappointing performance last night by the basketball. I, too agree Newton should have been sat down and coach L should have rewarded Brown for carrying the team through that tough stretch during Newton's absence. Nevertheless, it was still a successful season and good experience making to the big dance. Now, onward to bigger and better things for off season and next season; "can't wait!" Enjoy your Saturday.

Go Canes!

With Brown back and the two guards coming in, Newton will be an afterthought by next tourney.

We played arguably our best ball when he was suspended. Coach L is smart enough to see what has to happen in 2018.

CoCane

We only played GaTech, Clemson and Virginia without Newton. Beat VA but only scored 50 something points. The team had more issues then Newton. Reed disappears in big games too often. As a Sr, you needed him to take over and settle things down when MSU went on that run in the 1st half. Lawrence disappears too. The bigs are too young. I give coach L credit just getting this team to the dance but last nights performance was pathetic.

VA Cane

That looked like UM football vs Clemson and AlPa, NoDPa ........ass whuping....would ya say CGNCPa?

Still we are getting better....but now...time for football countdown!!!

More Importantly Chad Thomas has production rights on Rick Ross New Album "Apple of My Eye"

VA Cane

I really think it would have been smarter for BK to stay another year. I would help him a lot; he is a very good young man but needs more development. none of those guys, except Watson is ready. they will get hammered as they will play for a bad team; they all need more development. Even Watson could stay.....best of luck to all of them.

Go Canes!

Nearly 12 hours without a post...

RIP Canespace?

For those who still glance at it some perspective on what Coach L has done:

Leonard Hamilton: 15 years at FSU. 4 NCAA Tourney wins. 1 Sweet Sixteen

Jim Larrañaga: 6 years at UM. 4 NCAA Tourney wins. 2 Sweet Sixteens

RCCF

I was wondering the same BEER...
Has anything like this happened before?
Does him being a Music major sway the deal?

fmcane

Coach L is without a doubt the best coach Hurricanes basketball has had in recent history. The fact that he has the expectations so high at this point when UM bball has always been an after thought at best is telling of skills. I was disappointed with the teams performance in the tourney but I believe we can expect better things in the years to come.

Alex D

RCCF, if CT9 is not getting paid or maybe doing production as a class project; then I do not think that would be an NCAA offense. Although, the NCAA would love for that to happen when it comes to the U.

CaneRock

Student-Athletes can get paid to work, just not over a certain amount...$2K+/-, or something like that.

And even if Chad's royalties cross that earnings threshold, I'm pretty sure they've got something worked out so He can collect the balance later.

BEERicane

Student athletes should be able to be compensated for any labor they do at fair market value.

Dude (Operating Insomniac Level 8)

Im wondering if Lingard can move himself into the nation's top 5. I think he passes up Cook in the rankings.

Good bye college football as we know it if that ever happens.

Dude (Operating Insomniac Level 8)

Posted by: BEERicane | March 19, 2017 at 03:49 PM

Furthermore, college sports dont really operate on the free market. The universities are payed for by the tax payer, so free market pay, based on tax payer dollars. I cant see that being a popular thing to do.

Old Skool

I learned an interesting tidbit today. Villanova's coach doesn't cost the university a dime. An alum pays the entire $3 million salary each year.

TonyCane

RCCF, if CT9 is not getting paid or maybe doing production as a class project; then I do not think that would be an NCAA offense. Although, the NCAA would love for that to happen when it comes to the U.

Posted by: Alex D | March 19, 2017 at 12:58 PM

I can just imagine it...

"The NCAA could not stand back on the sidelines as this rogue program wrecked havoc on the integrity of the sport. What Mr Thomas and the Miami coaching staff did - with Mr Thomas earning $2,000.15 for his production work - is a clear violation to not only the letter of the law, but its spirit. They besmirched not only their own honor, but the integrity of all students who happen to be involved in athletic endeavours. My staff will make certain the harshest disciplines are meted out, and that the maximum sanctions are imposed."

Go Canes!

Palm Beach Gardens DB Amari Carter, now at UM, is Palm Beach County's High School Male Athlete of the Year. @CanesFootball @Carter_Fame

RCCF

He deserves to be paid fully for his production rights and as a student to teacher I'd definitely give him extra credit for achievement

BigWindyCane1

How was Amari Carter only a three star? It seems Palm Beach county is under appreciated by the rating sites. Too many great players from Palm Beach County are underrated by recruiting sites.

The Canes have some great three star players. Several will be NFL on rosters some day

BEERicane

Dude, I'm talking about activity and work outside the scope of the sport. If a kid wants to flip houses, he should be able to do that. If he wants to work construction, he should be able to do that and be compensated for it.

Dude (Operating Insomniac Level 8)

^^^ Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh!!! Lol.

Dude (Operating Insomniac Level 8)

So what if the kid is a working model then? And he's a model for Nike, who just so happens to get a big time deal, and so do most kids at the school? Slippery slope I think.

CaneRock

Dowwwwwwn goes Duke.

Posted by: Dude (Operating Insomniac Level 8) | March 19, 2017 at 10:07 PM

Not a slippery slope. Nike is intimately related to sports. If he were to model for, say, UGGs (sp?) that would be ok in my book.

Alex D

The NCAA should be happy a student athlete is pre-planning for life after football. Their concerns should be on the one and done basketball players. Some of these freshmen players are probably going to drop their classes in a few weeks to declare for the NBA draft.

Dude (Operating Insomniac Level 8)

Posted by: BEERicane | March 19, 2017 at 11:21 PM

What if Ugg's owner loves Arizona State basketball and signs up every elite talent as an employee? Wouldnt it become a booster arms race?

UM spring nuggets:

UM NOTES

• As UM’s quarterback battle begins this week, one player remarked the Jack Allison throws the nicest ball of the contenders. The belief is that he has improved considerably since last spring.

• Biggest concern: Depth at running back and depth at tight end, where there is absolutely nobody proven or experienced behind Chris Herndon. But one UM person said Michael Irvin, suspended for the bowl game, has returned with more maturity.

• UM has said it will bring along slowly players coming off major injuries. That group includes Lawrence Cager, Trayone Gray, Jamie Gordinier and Sunny Odogwu.

• One UM person said Dionte Mullins has been working hard to crack the receiver rotation. He will have plenty of opportunities this spring, with three incoming receivers (Jeff Thomas, Mike Harley and Evidence Njoku) not arriving until the summer.

• There will be at least one projected “starter” who won’t be at spring practice: new punter Zach Feagles, who is not yet enrolled.

• We hate to use the term disappointments with college kids, but there are a bunch of linebackers and offensive linemen who must show serious growth this spring if they want to receive any consideration for significant playing time.

At linebacker, that includes Charles Perry, Mike Smith and Terry McCray. UM has spoken of moving a player to running back, and Perry warrants consideration because he played the position at Royal Palm Beach.

Four offensive linemen must show they can compete for playing time at an ACC program: Bar Milo, Hayden Mahoney, Tre Johnson and Jahair Jones.

• Eyebrows were raised when former Oregon coach Mark Helfrich visited campus for several days; Mark Richt said it was merely to discuss strategy and exchange ideas.
